Danny clung to Rikki like he was a life preserver, blatant embarrassment written across her face. The arm secured around her waist kept her from running away completely and never showing her face in front of these people ever again.
"Oh Jack I'm so sorry I'm really sorry." A panicked glance to Rikki, who wasn't looking any better. In fact his expression merely nailed the final nail in her coffin. Nothing sucked more than seeing even your boilfriend lose hope in you. Even worse than the fact that she'd embarrassed herself was the fact that she'd sullied Rikki. All of the confidence he'd put into her was for nothing. She was the worst ghoulfriend.
Her face was pale, the hand she had on Rikki's back was shaking lightly. "F-Fitzgerald?" Was his mom asking so she could hunt Danny's family down or something? Why did she need a last name?

Rikki clenched his jaw, angry that his parents were being intimidating enough to make Danny shake. He ran his thumb in soothing circles around her hip, never taking his eyes from his parents and hoping that his disapproval was blatant enough that his parents would ease up.
Not that he really expected his parents to know the meaning of ease up. That would be asking too much.
It was almost comical how quickly Rikki saw his mother's expression clear. "Fitzgerald?" She actually offered a tight-lipped smile, a mockery of what the expression should be. "Well, we hope you enjoy your time."
Tapio didn't do anything so outrageous as to smile, but he did tilt his head ever so slightly, seemingly regarding Danny in a new light. "It was a... pleasure, Danny."
Rikki coughed and tightened his grip on Danny's waist, nudging her lightly. "Yeah that's enough. We're going," he said, nodding to his parents. He couldn't take any more stilted conversation or carefully chosen words, he was done. His parents did nothing to acknowledge their departure but to turn their attention to the next few guests, but it was a dismissal clear as any.
"Come on, lets get away from the people," he said close to Danny's ear, steering her gently towards the wide staircase that would lead to his room.

Danny watched the interaction, not understand the looks passed between family members. It was awkward for her, watching it, clinging to Rikki's side, and not being able to understand the years of familial static interacting in front of her.
Even stranger was that Danny couldn't tell if his parents approved or not. Their words were kind, but their faces were not. For someone like Danny who already had a hard time reading social cues, something as mysterious as mismatching expressions was another language entirely.
Rikki took the reigns though, giving her no time to respond. She was glad for it though, considering she had no idea what to do with herself. As they walked away, Danny shouted a "IT WAS NICE TO MEET YOU THOUGH!!!" over her shoulder. It was undoubtedly lost in the sea of people, but the few people around them stared at the twosome angrily. Whoops. Social etiquette botched once more.
As he ushered her up the staircase, Danny shrugged out of his hold and muttered, "I'm sorry ... that was really bad, wasn't it."

Rikki shook his head, keeping his hand firmly on her back so they kept moving. He didn't want to spend any more time with these high and mighty people. He even went as far as to glare nastily at one older couple who stared after them in disgust. "No, my parents are just assholes. You're good though, that was good."
He lead her to the top of the stairs and down the narrow hall to his room. The door sat ajar and Rikki shouldered it open unceremoniously. It wasn't as large as his dorm, and it was obviously catered to a younger Rikki, but it was unmistakably his. Saving Cain and Bullet for my Scarentine posters littered the walls and there was a big, open space where his drum kit used to sit. He hated coming home to his room, it was always too clean.
He let go of Danny so he could take off the jacket of his suit and hang it over his desk chair. "We don't have to go back down there. We showed our faces so we're in the clear." He adjusted the cords of his necklaces as he turned, giving her a reassuring smile.

Danny tugged on the ends of her dress, unable to simply remove her clothing the way Rikki could with his jacket. It didn't make her any more comfortable- she'd hated the dress from the very beginning- but that was besides the point.
She peered into the room, admittedly curious about what the younger Rikki entertained himself with. She quirked an eyebrow and laughed at the posters- what a loser. It was pretty clean, something Danny had never pictured Rikki's room as- his dorm at Amity was a total teenage-boil mess.
Danny looked back down the hallway at the other doors. "Who's are those?"

"The door at the end of the hall is my parents' room. The door to the left of mine is my bathroom." He looked past her to the door directly across from his, frowning at the worn wood. "That one is Tell's. Was Tell's."
He hadn't opened that door since he'd first taken the key. He wasn't entirely sure he wanted to, actually. But part of him knew Danny could - would - share this with him. Share a little bit of the memory. He wanted someone to share that with, because he certainly couldn't do it with his parents.
Before he could lose his nerve he tugged the cord with the key off his neck and moved across the hall to unlock the room. "Come on," he said quietly over his shoulder before pushing the door open, "I want you to see this."
If Rikki's room was overly clean, Tellervo's was a wreck. There were still clothes hung over every available surface and the bed was unmade. A keyboard sat dust covered in a corner begging to be touched again. There weren't band posters like Rikki decorated with, but there were mementos from traveling instead. Masks, figurines, and other artworks spoke of everywhere Tellervo had been with their parents. The room felt settled and stuffy, left untouched for years.
Walking into the room was like trying to breathe underwater, and Rikki could only take a step, maybe two, before he stopped and focused his attention on a small bear figure on the desk. The paint was faded and there was a chip in one paw. It was easier to focus on a little detail than the room at large.

Danny wasn't sure why Rikki wanted her to see his room- did it have some deep dark secret in it? Why was she supposed to see it?
She diligently followed behind him, not saying much, but face riddled with curiosity. Rikki never talked about Tell more than a sentence at a time, so it was worrisome seeing him expose himself to it.
Unlike Rikki, she had no problem walking in the room. It wasn't hard for her, as it merely appeared to be a really dusty room. She looked around and went to the keyboard, playing a few keys before realizing it wasn't even turned on. Clothes were strewn everywhere, the bed unkept. It really just seemed like someone had walked out and forgotten to come back. She continued to search through the room, not really moving anything around, but instead just looking and taking what little details she could with her distracted mindset.
She turned back to Rikki, only to find his rapt attentions on a small bear that sat upon an old desk. "Hmm? What's that?" she asked, moving to his side as she examined the bear. "Did he like bears or something?"

He shook his head, pressing his lips together. He picked up the small figurine and turned it in his fingers, feeling the whorls in the old wood. "Nah, he didn't like bears in general. Just this one. Mom and Dad gave it to him, the first time they told us the story about Otso." He pressed his thumb to the black-painted nose and sighed.
"It was a story about a baby bear who couldn't get over his wanderlust. Every day he'd try to wander further from home, and his mother would always stop him before he got too far. One day he wandered into the woods when his mom wasn't paying close enough attention and he got lost. He traveled for days, weeks, months, unable to find his way back home. Years passed and he experienced the world. He saw everything there was to see, but he wanted nothing more than to be back home with his parents in their den. Just when he was about to give up, his parents found him. They'd been searching all those years, never giving up until they had him back."
Rikki set the figure back on the desk , facing the door, and turned to look back at his ghoulfriend, a small sad smile on his lips. "It was our favorite story."

Danny listened intently to the story with far more rapt attentions than she normally would've given. This s**t was important, she could tell.
When it was over, Danny didn't say anything. Arms wrapped around him. No kisses, nothing romantic or dramatic. Just a hug. She was there. As long as she could be, she would be.
A whisper broke the silence. "Thank you for showing me, but I'm tired. I want to go to sleep."

He wrapped his arms around her shoulders, squeezing back. It was kind of ridiculous how much better the contact made him feel, and he was thankful for it. "Yeah," he whispered back, thankful for the excuse. "Come on, lets go back to my room."
He took her hand and lead her out of the preserved room. His heart gave a final squeeze as he shut the door behind them and locked it and then secured the key back around his neck. It would be a long time before he opened that door again. He herded Danny through his own door and away from the memories.
"We can just sleep her tonight. You can borrow one of my shirt if you want," he said, already busying himself going through his drawers and finding one of his black vnecks to hand her. "I want to head back to school first thing tomorrow though. I can only stand being here for so long."

Danny looked out a window as they walked out of the room. Thunder was cracking the sky, and now it was pouring outside. Uh ... yeah, going back to Amity didn't really seem like an option. Danny was landlocked.
"I don't wanna stay long if you don't! Plus there's rain and stuff and rain is gross." She nodded decidedly, like that was the epitome of intellectual decisions.
She shook her head at the shirt he was handing her. She looked down at her dress, recalling that she had no pajamas. "Um ... I'm probably gonna need like a big shirt," she said, unstrapping her sandals with great effort. Now she was really glad she'd stuck that enchantment on her tail. It'd be really awkward to wake up to her boilfriend's parent's house burned down. "Or I guess this could be okay ... Kinda awkward though, man."

Rikki gave her a lewd side eye. "I have no problems with it," he chuckled. He took the shirt back, though, and unbuttoned his own dress shirt so he could slip it off and hand it to her. "There, that should cover you up enough. I refuse to be more conservative though. You cannot convince me."
It took him hardly a fraction of time to toe off his dress shoes and shimmy out of his slacks. There was a brief moment of contemplation over the merits of boxers vs. sweatpants, but he figured if he parents burst in for some unjackly reason it'd be better to be wearing an extra layer so he found pants in his dresser and tugged them on.
"I'm gonna brush my teeth, I'll be right back. For the love of jack do not look under the bed."

Danny waited for him to leave, but once he was gone she quickly shrugged out of her dress and into his shirt.
And then of course she looked under the bed.
Magazines? Why was he embarrassed about-
......... OH.
Danny burst into laughter and pulled a handful of them out, spread them out on the bed. Undead zombies posing in nurse outfits, reaper ladies in chains. By the time Rikki came back out, she was bent over the bed, reaching for a copy that was particularly far back there. Why was it so hidden? She needed to know.

Upon returning, Rikki's reaction is somewhere int he viscinity of:

Because his ghoulfriend is kneeling on his bed with her a** in the air. That's fabulous. That is the start of Rikki's dreams. But he quickly hones in on exactly what she's surrounded by. He doesn't scream, but he screams. A horrible, manly (read: really, really girly) scream of horror. Those were his skins dude, that was not okay.
"I told you not to look under the bed!" He screeches, running forward and sweeping all the magazines off the mattress and back under the bed. "Those are really old I don't even know why I still have them. No reason to look at them, hah."

Danny snapped up at the sound of his scream (when had he even come in the room?!), trying to hide the evidence, but it was too late. Instead she was reduced to a fit of giggles, fighting him for a few of the magazines.
A shout sounded from the bottom of the stairs, something about shutting the ******** up (but in nicer, aristocratic terms, of course), but Danny paid it no mind. She held a stack of two or three magazines, clenched close to her chest and away from Rikki's grabby claws.
"Ooh so they're special to you? Did you have a lot of good times with them~~" she teased, wiggling one in front of his face. She tore the nearest one open and imitated the pose on the page. It, of course, looked silly on her, but she was just doing it to make fun of him anyways. "Ooh look at me, I'm the ghoul of Rikki's dreams!! Better snap a picture for later."
