Alatriel picked up the javelin like a security blanket. Throwing a discus properly felt like a silly, foreign set of moves and if she had a chance, she knew it was the javelin. Not that the new page had much of a chance, but she was going grit her teeth and try!
Bouncingly shifting her weight from foot to foot, Alatriel took forever to aim. She was afraid of failing, but not failing distance wise; She was afraid of throwing crooked or a random gust of wind sending her javelin to a place she really didn't want it to go.
But it did occur to her that she was being just a tad obnoxious and so she took a deep breath and threw. No, actually not in that order. When her hand released the javelin she opened her eyes to see it land and realized that she had closed them when she threw! She closed them! She slapped her hands over her face and threw her head back with a groan. Falling into an old habit of closing her eyes when taking action and she had to do it when she was supposed to be taking aim.
She pulled apart two fingers to take a peek. It wasn't bad. In fact it was okay! She wasn't going to be bringing home a medal but she wasn't expecting to anyway. The fact that she had done her best and didn't accidentally send it into the crowd was enough to satisfy Alatriel, and getting a middling score was just dandy!
