All I can say to this is,

I know God would rather me clench my fists and mutter obscenities than hurt myself or someone else.

I know it's a sin, but it's probably low on God's list of priorities.

I'm sure God would not consider someone cursing when they accidentally stub their toe as grave as rape or murder.

Alright, I'm not one to defend curse words but there are worse ways to relieve anger and frustration.

Matthew 5:21-32

In these passages, it makes it clear that it is the intent, not that action that matters in the eyes of God. In 5:22, it specifically talks about swearing. When I let loose the F-bomb when talking to friends, it is not a sin. When I am mad at someone and I call them a 'Mother f------' than it is a sin.. Words are words, they have only the meaning we assign to them.

James 2:10

Is pertinent to that you said.

Oh, if you read what I said earlier. I said that if you have friends or you think it will affect people in a bad way when you say the words then you shouldn't do it around them, if someone has a convictoin about it then let them have it don't say "bad" words around them.

I have a problem with your first point. It's hypocrisy to choose not to act a certain way around one set of people and then act another way in another group. It's what happens a lot of times with youth groups. You see a friend from youth group in school and they're cussing up a storm, disrespecting teachers, and making snide jokes about Christ, but when they get into church again, they're practically angelic.
Quote:

Also, God doesn't want E-V-E-R-Y-S-I-N-G-L-E thing you do to be totally devoted to him. You do have to live your life for him, but there are other things you have to dael with, like oh... say life. If you are trying to tell someone about God, then you shouldn't be throwing out a cuss word every other couple seconds, especially since most people don't think Christians are supposed to say that.

"Whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God" (I Cor. 10:31).
Scripture clearly disagrees with that statement.
Again, don't "act" Christian around some people. Just genuinely BE Christian.

I see what you are saying about the hypocrisy thing, but you're not fully understanding me. Don't deny that you do other things around them. But if cussing around one friend offends them and they think it is wrong, then you shouldn't do it around them. But that doesn't make you a hypocrite, by not cussing around your friends because they don't like it.

And about the other thing, I was trying to say that you have to use your mind to say... make a sandwich, drive to work, etc. You know what I mean? You can't just sit there and think "God will drive me to work, it'll be fine..."

God doesn't consider one sin worse than another. Sin is sin and he treats each one the same way.

Are you saying that God would consider stubbing your toe and cursing the same as rape or murder?

I just can't believe that.

I never said that "cursing" was a sin. I know that those words are only what society deems bad words and the true meaning and what we have changed the meaning for is what defines the usage of them. I'm saying that whether you lie to your parents about sneaking out of the house or ANY other sin are all thought of the same by God. There is no scale on how bad you have been. God isn't like Santa Clause...

He's got a point. Sin is all the same to God. The wages of any sin is death. Had it not been for Jesus, we'd still be killing animals in our place for every little sin we committed. For lying, for cheating, for murdering and raping, for lusting, for cursing.

Okay I submit, you're right.

However swearing does not have the same Earthly significance as rape and murder.

I definitely agree with you there. People judge everything on different levels, partially to make themselves feel better about what they have done.

I agree. Peole dont want to admit that they are doing is wrong. Foul language is a serious problem in our society. It is wrong to use foul language. And yes sin is sin to God. He doesnt say,"Well you only told a small lie. Its okay. You are not in trouble." It hurts Him when people sin.

Right, but I don't see cursing as words other than words that people in society have deemed "bad". Nothing else...
