"Well, if ya say so. Iffin' ya do find someone who knows 'bout it an' is willin' ta teach, lemme know. Or if ya change yer mind or sommin', no real pressure." Ofelia winked as she spoke, turning her attention back to the task at hand. The fajitas were nearly done, all she needed to do was one final round of seasoning, and the conversation steered away from swimming and back to food.
A checklist was done in her mind, everything was there, and so she called to Melvin over her shoulder. "Do ya wanna have yer tortillas warm or room temperature is good?"

"Frankly, it all smells so good that I'd rather not wait to warm some tortillas. I can eat it as is." And now that the room was wafting with the aroma of good, decent food, he wanted to eat now.
He moved over to grab two plates from them out of the cabinets, inspected them closely, before setting them on the counter.

"Okay, got it." Ofelia was done, or at least she felt like the food was done as she tossed the last bit of seasoning on, and from the way the onions looked semi-burnt she knew she'd done well for her first time. The heat was turned off and she held the pan in her hand as she got a potholder. The fajitas were placed down on it, still snapping and crackling from the heat of their cooking, and the smell was indeed good.
Seeing as Melvin had the plates out Ofelia went and washed her hands (again) before getting the tortillas. she opened the package and offered him one first before pulling one out for herself and placing it on her plate. "Ah'mma get some cheese an' sour cream - ya want anythin' or jus' gonna eat as is?"
The fact that she was adding something meant Ofelia wasn't entirely too confident in the taste yet she still had hopes it would be delicious.

Melvin was already making his tortilla and turned to the table when she asked. "Um, no. I'm good." He was about 3 seconds from devouring this fajita cheese or not. Sour cream only weakened the spices.
Moving to the table, he plopped down and took off his gloves, then he held up his fajita and bit into it. A please mmm sound escaped as he ate. It made him think of eating at a favorite Mexican restaurant he had back home. They would have to drive a hour to get there, but it was damn good. If only he had packed hot sauce with him. Alas.

When Ofelia returned Melvin was already eat and making pleased-while-eating person sounds so she didn't prod into a conversation. Instead she sat down herself and made a fajita, taking care not to slather it too much with condiments, and bit down deeply.
It was hot and one of the onions totally scalded the roof of her mouth, and she got up just as suddenly as she'd sat down to head towards the fridge for something to drink. Chewing as quickly as she could, since talking with a mouthful tended to be bad manners (and she had just met Melvin), she swallowed her bite and used her tongue to run over the burn in her mouth. "Ya wanna drink while Ah'm up?"

Melvin had to stop, finish chewing, swallow, wipe is mouth, before he could speak again. "If you could. Just water."

"Water, got it." Ofelia went and grabbed a glass, then went in and grabbed a pitcher that had one of the filtering devices on it. She poured him water from there, grabbing some sort of juice for herself, and carried both back over before sitting down again. "Well, whatcha think? Betcha never thought ya'd get ta eat fajitas here, huh?"
She grinned broadly, pretty proud of herself for stretching so far out of her culinary comfort zone.

"I've pretty much resigned myself to a fate of eating terrible, shapeless dogfood in the form of actual food." He took the water. "Thank you, for the water and this." He lifted the fajita. "I can't cook to save my life. I just usually went out to eat or turned on a microwave." Or let other people cook for him like his family when he visited. It was a skill he said he'd learn once he left college and lived on his own.

"Hmmm, well, if ya'd like Ah'll cook fer ya forever, how's that sound? Any time ya get hungry, or lonely, come find me an' Ah'll make meals fer ya." The sun hunter stopped her talking to take another bite of her fajita, then another, and pretty soon she nearly downed it all before she could even think about it. The food tasted great, that was a no brainer, but the fact she was eating with someone else made it all that much better.
Eating alone was boring, and well. . .lonely. Eating with company was the champion event, of that she was certain. "Anythin' an' everythin' ya like, Ah'll learn ta make it. Eatin' wit' others, or eatin' homemade meals, it's the best part."

"I'll have to see about taking you up on that again." He said, neatly finishing off his fajita and taking another drink of his water. "You should consider catering for the island. There are plenty of people who can't cook and hate the cafeteria food. With portals down like this, saying you are willing to cook anything for someone could get you some nice things. Cash. Some items. I think even some of the techs would offer up their services for something good to eat." Among other things. "It would be a easy way for you to make money here while still enjoying cooking for others." It seemed to be the one thing she liked and that kept her busy with her free time.
He wiped his mouth clean. "That was really good."

"Caterin'? That's an idea Ah hadn' thought of, makin' it so everyone could eat good, but Ah'm not sure Ah'd have that much time. Ah'm in Sun yanno, we're the cannon fodder they send out first ta check inta things." It wasn't like she was being negative there, a catering company on the island sounded amazing but if she happened to be killed while out on a mission then what? The redhead was oddly practical about taking business offers into mind since she considered them along the same lines as a promise - they did not need to be broken. Still it would be something for her to dwell on at least.
When Melvin complimented her on her cooking again she once more blushed, finally smiling instead of her usual grin. It felt nice to hear someone say thanks, to see someone enjoy it, and she wondered if they could do this again sometime. "Anytime fer ya, Ah'm glad ya enjoyed it. Ah hope we can eat 'gain tagether sometime soon." The dishes went into the sink as she finished her sentence, and the tap was turned on. It was time to do some chores, cleaning up the food could wait until things were properly soaking. "Oh, yer also welcome ta take whatever leftovers ya want wit'cha, otherwise they're goin' ta guys in the jungle patrol booth."
That was all she had to say on that, and the sun hunter teen turned her focus to cleaning up.

Melvin did get more, making himself another before sitting down. "Leave the dishes. I can get those." She did make him food after all, and he often tended to do dishes anyways. They were soothing to do, letting your mind wander while still being productive.
As he ate, he smiled. "Feeding the guys in the patrol booth, huh? Watch out or else they're going to paw at you." A way to a guy's heart sometimes was through the stomach, and being around many men on the island, they needed little more than a girl looking at them to make them think that she was interested. Giving food was almost a invitation to the bedroom for some guys here who were in need of company of any sort no matter how young looking.

"Paw at me how?" Ofelia didn't like the sound of that, nor did she like the giving up of doing dishes, but she backed away and let Melvin in. "Anyone who feels like tryin' ta attack me, no matter who it is, gets a kiss from Rue." There was that, Ofelia didn't attack unless threatened, and she really needed to get going though. If Melvin was doing the chores she didn't need to worry, and soon the food was packed up and she was at the door.
"Nice meetin' ya Melvin, let's talk 'gain soon, kay?" And without waiting for a reply, she was gone.
