Mot smiled sheepishly and shrugged. He stuck to his guns, and he wasn't there. Even though he was wanted there.

"Of course! But.. I mean.." Mot hesitated, frowning. "I was not willing to make a deal with the Horsemen for it. Please don't hold this against me, Hel. Going through that portal was something I would not allow myself to do. I don't regret it."

The ghoul still had a rather serious look on her face, and it didn’t soften with his answer.

What if it was me, Mot? Instead of Mitsu? Would you have still chosen not to come? Would you have stayed here because you did not want to use any means necessary to try?” Her tone was questioning, but serious.

Mot frowned, leaning away from Hel and standing up. "Is this 'what if' scenario really neccessary?" He asked, a little irritated. "Are you assuming I would let you and Mitsu die just because it would make me uncomfortable?" He seemed insulted, his nose scrunching in irritation.

When Mot stood up, Hel slid right off of his lap and onto the floor with a thud and an ‘oof’. She glared up at him, rubbing her bottom a bit.

Serene, comforting moment gone.

Why can you not just answer the question, Mot? It is a yes or no.” She replied back, brows furrowing. “Ah, yes, maybe I am assuming that…what else can I assume after this latest event? You were there when she was taken…”

"It's a maybe." He said with some snark, crossing his arms. "I can't believe you Hel. The world is not black and white, no matter how much you see it that way. It's gray!"

Her last statement really insulted him, his arms crossed even tighter. "That decision was not an easy one. Maybe it was selfish, but it was made. Just.." He huffed and stomped away. "Forget it. I guess I am just wrong. A wrong, spineless coward!"

It's a maybe.

Hel shouldn’t have let that statement bother her. It was made out of immaturity and as a way to get under her skin because they were butting heads again. But it did. It bothered her a lot, and it hurt her too. That wasn’t something to make snide comments about because it was a principle she held close to her heart and to her honor.

First her expression contorted into anger and then gave way to just being hurt. The ghoul finally pushed herself up to her feet and stood there for a long moment as Mot stomped away, looking down at her loom with her fists clenched. After being in these kinds of situations with him for so long, it was finally getting through her thick skull that saying anything or doing anything towards him was just adding fuel to the fire now. So for once, Hel did nothing. Her fists unclenched and she slumped back onto her bench seat, staring down at the beginnings of her fox fire blanket.

Maybe he’d stick around and be calmer, maybe he’d leave, which while it wasn’t desirable, it could happen…she’d just wait and see.

Mot turned just as he reached the door. He'd expected yelling, fighting, anything. But what he saw behind him was an expression on Hel that was more hurt than angry. He felt badly. He'd been blowing up at his friends quite a bit.

Mot frowned, turning and heading back to Hel. "I'm sorry." He said while rubbing his arm. "That was cruel."

She almost snapped, almost wanted to rub it in that it was cruel, and that she wasn’t always the one doing the hurting, but she squashed that urge with a deep sigh. Hel turned her head away, propping her elbow on the loom and resting her head in her hand. “I would do anything for you, Mot. I would die for you. Hands down. There is no question about it, no hesitation.” She muttered seriously, still keeping her gaze away from him. “If laying my existence down meant you could exist a moment longer, I would do it.”

She fell silent for a moment, and then reached up to rub the back of her neck in frustration. “…I…I am sorry, I am not meaning to put you down about your decision it is just…” She clenched her fist and sighed again. She didn’t know how to word it. “…I do not know. I was very serious when I said I do not know when to call it quits.”

Mot grimaced, "I don't want my friends to die for me. I'd never want them to harm themselves for me. Sure, it's heartwarming that you'd do so much, but the guilt that follows?"

He fell silent as she talked some more. "No, it's okay. I mean.. I think half the reason I blew up is.." Mot rubbed his neck. "I always assumed I'd do anything for my friends. But after that? I guess I wouldn't.. does that make me a bad friend?" Mot looked at Hel with a sad frown, even if she wasn't looking at him.

You think I want to live with the guilt of not trying when I could?” Hel shot back in counter to his point. Her tone wasn’t hostile though, just stating how she felt about it. It also became more apparent to her at that moment that maybe there were some issues that would never have a simple right or wrong answer or a clear stand. It was a matter of opinion and also, sadly, a matter of chance. “I suppose that is just the difference between you and I, huh?”

At his next words, Hel turned her gaze back up to him, and for a moment she looked lost. It was as if her mind couldn’t comprehend the idea of not doing everything for those one cared about. Hel didn’t know how to answer that. A small part of her, the proud and stubborn warrior, said yes, that made him a horrible friend…but that other part of her, the one that cared and loved him nearly unconditionally said it didn’t matter. It wouldn’t change how she felt about him and what she would do for him. She shouldn’t have asked, but she wanted to know, so she asked again. “Would you die for me, Mot?”

Mot nodded. He and Hel always had contrasting personalities. Like Fire and Ice. It was easy to tell which was which.

Her question made his gut wrench tightly. Dying for someone. Ending your existence so they could go on. Mot chuckled lightly, nervously. "My, the topic of conversation between us is always so deadly serious..." He mused uncomfortable. "If I ignored every doubt, and spoke without thinking, I would say yes in a heartbeat. I would die for you."

His face fell. "I'd truly like to think I would. If I couldn't, then I really would come to despise my own character. What gives me the right to go on when someone as fierce as you could be saved. It would be selfish of me. Besides... You're dear to me. I would want you to live. So..." Mot smiled, nodding with confidence. "If presented an opportunity, where your life hung in the balance, I would gladly trade it for my own."

Hel couldn’t laugh or smile despite Mot’s chuckle or musings. She just wanted to hear his answer, and she was quiet as she seriously regarded him. As soon as he came to his conclusion though, in earnest and with confidence, Hel felt better. Her expression lightened, and finally a bit of a smile pulled at her lips. That was she wanted to know, all she cared about right now.

Thank you.” She replied.

Mot nodded softly, awkwardly shifting his weight from side to side. He was all of the uncomfortable now. His values had been questioned, again. There was one other thing on his mind, though he had a feeling Hel would never understand. DETH. He'd picked up a Beginner's kit for it after his field trip. The requirements for badges were.. silly. Very silly. It kind of made him embarrassed to even be a scout. Hel? She'd either tell him he was stupid for joining or she would laugh at him.

Mot would never win.

"Um.... I guess I'll...." His eyes shifted to the door.

The bit of the smile fell from Hel’s face as the cowboil looked at the door. “…Oh…” Her shoulders sagged a bit. “…Already…?” Her lips twisted a bit.

Did…you have something you needed to do?”

"No.." He answered quietly. He was just worried he would blow up again. He didn't want that. Mot frowned. "Unless.. did you want to go out somewhere? With me?"

Desu sparkle.
