xXxRunning in what looked like a militarized style of entering a room with armed weapons, Damyen slid into the chair on the opposite side of Penelope and set his sketchpad in his lap along with a mechanical pencil. “You run fast, Miss Penelope. You should be on a track team. Hello~ I'm Damyen. Pleasure to meet you. Don't start freaking if I start twitching should more people arrive. It happens,” he breathed out although he didn't really seem all that tired. In all honesty, the run to this classroom was more like a warm-up routine for the dark haired male dressed in a red hoodie. He even took the time out to give the other girl a brief salute while introducing himself. Now that he looked around, however, the room was rather empty. That was odd. Where was the teacher? Where were the other students? Was the weird food addict even still in here?

Peter entered the class with his head down and hands shoved in his pockets. He was expecting the snitty teacher to yell at him, as usual. But the creepy guy wasn't even there. Instead, there was that one kid and two chicks. Huh.

He wondered briefly where everyone was, then decided he really didn't care. Except that if everyone else had slept in, he wanted to do it too. But what he really wanted to know was...where was Yuki? He kind of wanted to make her cook breakfast for him because after that dinner, he wanted to see what she could do with breakfast foods.

Feeling a little lovelorn (but more toward the thought of banana nut pancakes than Yuki herself), he flopped into a chair, listening to Damyen give pretty much the weirdest introduction he'd ever heard. Who said something like that to someone they'd just met? Hey there, here is a piece of completely irrelevant trivia about myself. I know we've just met and it's a little weird to just blurt this out but hey, it happens.

He wondered if this was how normal people conversed with each other. He figured it was different for homeless folks. They were too busy trying to survive to worry about pointing out all their quirks to people they've just met.

Penelope was definitely taken aback by the girl's exuberance. She had hoped she would be a good conversationalist, but honestly she was having a hard time keeping up. Something about quadratic equations, empty classrooms and... zombies? She felt her face getting hot. She had no idea how to respond to this girl... or what to respond to first. "Uh..." She floundered for a minute, attempting to find her words. "N-no. I mean Yes! I ah... I mean... I'm Penelope, yes. B-but I, I don't mind if you um, sit here." She shifted slightly in her seat, tugging at her skirt. "I wasn't ah... I mean it's possible. I haven't had a roommate... as of yet, but, i-f you're new, then that's... probably the... It's nice to meet you." She smiled nervously at the girl. Seriously, she was shockingly pale, but she wasn't about to go pointing out the obvious. "It's... I mean, it'll be fun to have a roommate. It's been kind of... kind of um... still, in my room... Our room... So far so it'll be nice... to have some company."

She looked around the room, taking in the very pointed absence of life. "A-as for the classes... I... don't think they're ah, usually this empty. I mean, last class wasn't, but the... the teacher was here too." She frowned at the empty desk in front of her. "It's a shame... I was kind of hoping-"

She squeaked in surprise as Daymen slid into the seat next to her. "A-ah... oh um... thanks?" She blushed again. Her ability to run so fast most likely had to do with the fact that she was so tall... And she really hated being tall. Of course, that hadn't been what Daymen had been referring to at all, but she couldn't help but think about it nonetheless. "I don't know about ah, about that... I'd probably end up falling on my face or something..."

"Oh, don't worry about that!" Trisha told Damyen. "I don't really 'freak out.' You know, ever. It's a waste of energy and brain power, you know? I'd rather expend my energy working on something more worthwhile than getting upset over something trivial like twitching. Because, you know, there are just better things to focus my mind on. And it's not like we don't all have our weird little quirks. I'm definitely not quirk-less, myself."

She turned back to Penelope, watching another boy enter the class, out of the corner of her eye.

"So Penelope, are you good with art? I'll be honest, I'm really, really not. It's definitely my weakest subject I think. Though, I don't know. Since Music is our other subject, I might actually be worse and that. I was supposed to be in the Astronomy department, but mix ups and all that. I'm looking forward to this experience though. I've already started working on learning to read music. It's actually a lot easier than I thought it would be, you know? Every Good Boy Does Fine. F-A-C-E. It's pretty practical when you think about how to remember the notes and what order they come in. Well, that's just the treble scale. I thought I'd learn it first since it seems somewhat more common but I'll be memorizing bass next. And...wow. I'm rambling again."

Trisha laughed sheepishly and ran toyed with the ends of her. "I definitely tend to do that so, really, if you ever need to, you can just tell me to hush. I tend to get a little carried away. I think my neurons just fire abnormally fast or something. There's just so much going in my head all the time and it all just tends to spill out at once but I usually don't realize I'm doing it until it occurs to me that my lungs are burning because I haven't taken a breath in the last five minutes and...I'm doing it again, aren't I?"

xx The door to the room opened a little bit at first before it stopped. The brunette who's hand held the door handle shoot slightly. Different things went through her head like what if people didn't like her, if they teased her like the others at the other schools, and what if she never made any friends?! Melody took a deep breath and sighed. She finally pushed the door open and closed it behind her quietly. She looked around at the people that were there and gulped a little. She took another deep breath as she tried to calm her nerves. She looked around and found an open seat away from the small group. She sat down and stared at the floor. Melody wished she had taken a little more time to get ready. Her hair was a bit messy and put in two braids, her outfit consisted of a black skirt and a simple white blouse like shirt. She couldn't put anything really nice together since she wasn't sure if she could have been late, early, or on time. Right now it seemed like she was late since there were already people there. A light sigh passed her lips, but she didn't know who or where the teacher was, so there was hope for her yet or for the moment at least.

Peter sighed, leaning his head on his hands as another student came in late and the teacher...stayed M.I.A. He was sick of waiting. Not that he really was eager to do art anyway. Not unless it involved drawing naked chicks. Young, nubile, naked chicks--of which there was not a surplus in class, sadly.

In any case, class was more or less over. There was no reason to keep lurking around listening to Miss Rambles over there. Peter stood abruptly. "I'm hungry so I guess I'm heading out," he said to no one in particular as his stomach growled loudly. As he wandered toward the door, he wondered if there was any decent food at the dorm. Maybe he could have lunch, then a nap. Then he could forget to show up for music later on...

Or contract a mysterious bout of "food poisoning."

He was late. Oooh, he was late. And even worse than that, he missed a day. At least, he thought it was a day. He wasn't exactly sure, since all the coughing and sneezing left him fairly disoriented while he was gone, but however long it was, it was a huge dent in his schedule for the year.

As Reiner popped into the art classroom, he jumped and practically dove to the side to avoid trampling over another student heading out. Heading... out... He froze for a brief moment, slowly absorbing that fact. Did he... miss the class? He winced, as if that thought caused him actual physical pain, and made his way to an empty desk next to a lone brunette girl, collapsing into it. He let his head plop down on the cool surface and covered his face with his arms, as if he could actually bury his head into the wood if he tried hard enough. If he somehow managed it, he would deserve it for missing another class. Then again, if he had a desk stuck to his face, he wouldn't be able to wear scarves anymore. He would have to wear a sheet or something, and that would be unpleasant.

xx Melody's eyes rose from the ground to the boy at the desk next to her. She raised an eyebrow as she watched him bury his head into his arms and even the desk like it was a pillow. Was he upset? Tired maybe? If Melody could read people or their minds life would be so much easier, but she couldn't. She wasn't sure whether to ask him if he was alright or leave him be. She noticed the scarf around the boys neck and arched her eyebrow once again. Wouldn't that be warm? she asked herself. They were inside the school which was at a decent temperature. She couldn't remember what it was like outside since she rushed to get here and her hair was proof of that. Her brown eyes stared at the boy for a moment longer before she glanced around.

Well, at least she wasn't the only later person, but they were probably the last. She expected a bell to ring any minute ending the class and dismissing everyone. That thought didn't exactly help her calm down; her heart was still going a mile a minute from running here and being so nervous. Melody gave a slight, almost unnoticeable shake of her head to bring her mind back to the matter at hand. In took her one more minute to gather up whatever nerves she had remaining and another for her to find her voice before she could actually speak. "E-Excuse me . . . b-but are you a-all right?" she asked the boy with such a soft voice that she thought he might not even hear her. If she had to repeat herself she'd feel like an idiot, but she was a bit curious to if the guy was alright or not.

Penelope blushed. "Um... Art, ah, oh, No. Not really. I'm sort of a... "Musician" Myself." She lifted her hands and made quotations with her fingers. "I-I, I don't really know much about art, but I ah... Well I was sort of, you know, looking forward to learning about it. Thing is though... We didn't get... all that much done last class, and I'm ah, I'm pretty sure that the teacher isn't going to show at all..." She blinked and paused for a moment as she watched a brown haired girl enter the classroom. The class was over and students were just arriving? She hadn't seen the girl before either... was she new? She watched Peter get up and walk out of the classroom, apathetic as ever and nearly run into... another entering student? What was with the tardiness? Well... actually, she had been late too. At lest she had made it before the class had ended.... not that it mattered, what with the teacher being absent and all.

"B-but yeah... not exactly my ah... my strongest subject either." She shrugged, unsure of what else to say. "A-and um... I don't mind i-if you're a little... a little um... talkative. I d-don't really... I mean, I'm not really all that talkative... myself... S-so I mean, it should work out... work out just fine." She smiled. "By the way... You seem to, well, you seem to know a pretty good amount of music theory for... for not being a Music student. O-or, at least the basics... Which is good! Nothing... nothing wrong with a good... foundation." If she was meant to be in the Astronomy department, why hadn't she just requested a transfer? Or could one not do that? She wasn't sure, but of course if she had requested a transfer then Penelope would have been without a roommate again... And then she might have gotten paired with whoever the next girl to come along was, who might have been much more disagreeable than Trisha... Penelope blushed. Not that she was calling, or... thinking that Trisha was disagreeable, just that other people might have been, and she wasn't. Still it felt like she had been thinking of her as such, which made her feel embarrassed, which made her feel embarrassed for feeling embarrassed at something she hadn't even said.

"Oh, well, you know, you can find all this stuff online," Trisha said. "I mean, I knew absolutely nothing at all about music but when I found out I was going to be on this side of things for a while, I just started looking up stuff and reading up on some basics because it would have been terrible to come here without known anything at all. And, you know, it's really not that difficult to understand. When it comes to reading music, it's really practical. There are only seven notes to remember anyway so once you get that, it's pretty easy to remember which one goes on what line or space. And the different types of notes are pretty easy as well."

"I think the hardest thing will be remembering all the notations--forte, piano, staccato and such. But it's really all just memorization isn't it? Well, I mean, when it comes to the technical side of reading and understanding music. I'm sort of a bit nervous about learning to play an instrument though. I don't really have nimble fingers." She smiled at Penelope as she stumbled through quite a speech. It was so adorable. Trisha watched with interest as one boy left and another entered and flopped at a desk--he had a really great scarf, too! It was hard to find guys who actually liked to accessorize so she made a mental note that she'd have to tell him later, that she liked his scarf.

"Anyway, if you're good in music, I may ask you for help later, if you don't mind," Trisha said. Despite the brightness of the room, she pushed her glasses up on her forehead. Everything went instantly blurry as she leaned closer to Penelope. "Sorry," she said apologetically. "My vision is really, really bad--super bad. Shockingly bad. It kind of comes with the territory. The sunglasses are prescription but it gets really annoying to see everything through tinted lenses. It makes it really hard to get a decent look at the people I'm talking to." She got close enough for Penny's features to come into focus and she smiled slightly. Aww, she was blushing. "Anyway, I'm really glad to have met you, Penelope. I guess class is over and everything but I'm kind of glad my mom accidentally enrolled me in music. I'm really looking forward to getting to know you better." She sat back and lowered the sunglasses again as she started to gather up her things.

"I guess we can head out of class now? I mean it would be weird if couldn't since the teacher isn't even here and class is over but it feels strange to just walk out when we didn't even do anything, you know?"

Well, since there was nothing much to do besides feel bad for himself, Reiner simply remained still and listened to whoever was speaking some distance away. Not that he was eavesdropping or anything. He would never do that. He was just listening... to someone else's conversation. That was all.

He nearly snorted out loud when he heard the girl speaking say that she wasn't very talkative, then go on and continue rambling. Not that he was bothered by it. He just found it a little silly. And then another girl went off on a tangent that was almost dizzying to listen to. It was nice that it wasn't completely silent, but some of these people were hard to keep up with. He shifted slightly in his seat when he heard a small sound next to him. It almost sounded like a voice, but he wasn't exactly sure, so he lifted his head to check. He pulled up his scarf as he glanced at the girl next to him, just in case it had slipped down while he was resting his head on the desk.

He frowned when he saw the worried look on her face. The desk wasn't stuck to his face like he had imagined, so he didn't understand why, but he did feel bad for making her feel that way. If only he could apologize. He didn't have a clue what she said, so he hesitantly shook his head, hoping that was a valid response to her question.

xx Melody watched the boy raise his head and stare at her almost questioning what had come out of her mouth. He must not have heard her. When he hesitantly shook his head it confirmed that he hadn't heard her the first time. "A-Are you a-all right?" This time her voice was above a whisper and audible, but still soft and gentle. Her cheeks had tinted a light pink from embarrassment. She usually ended up repeating herself when she speaks to people for the first time. It was rather embarrassing when her lips moved, but people never heard that words that came out at first until she raised her voice more.

Her eyes wandered over to the white haired girl who mentioned that class was over. She cringed very slightly at the thought. She had been late! The teacher wasn't there though, so she was off the hook . . . for now that is. I cannot be late again, I cannot be late again. Melody thought repeatedly like she had made it a new goal. She wasn't sure if arriving to classes on time counted as part of the grade, but she needed good grades.

The slight blush on Penelope's face deepened as Trisha leaned towards her. What was she... oh, well that made sense. She wasn't sure what she meant by the "territory" but the first thing that she thought of was Cyclops from the x-men when the words "tinted sunglasses" were brought up. Of course that was ridiculous, but she couldn't help it. "U-um... Oh." She swallowed as Trisha leaned back and began to gather her things. "Y-yeah... I mean, yes, it does but... but well, I guess we can't really be h-held re... responsible for the teacher's... tardiness." She went to gather her things as well, but realized halfway through the motions that she hadn't ever taken anything out of her bag to begin with. "I'm um, I'm looking forward to it too. Getting to know you I mean. I guess I'm... kind of glad your mother accidentally... enrolled you in music too?" She smiled nervously. Was that the sort of thing people said? Not really. Idiot.

Maybe she should just leave before she made a further fool of herself. Although, just walking out seemed like it might be a little rude without asking or at least waiting to see if any of her... friends (that seemed the most appropriate thing to call them) wanted to join her. Of course, that would probably lead to her making a fool out of herself even more... so she wasn't sure. "E-er... I'll see you guys next class then?" She stood, slinging her bag over her shoulder. "U-unless you want to... to keep me company- I mean hang out, until then... I'm fine with that too, I just um..." She trailed off, unsure of how to word what she was attempting to say. "W-well, I think you're right about the... the class being over and... and leaving does sound... pretty good right about now... and... ah... w-we could, continue our... our conversation elsewhere?" THAT was what she was looking for. Too bad it took so long for her to find it. She looked to Daymen, then to Trisha. Now she just wondered if they had been able to decipher anything from the gobblety gook she had just said...

Reiner stared at the strange girl, blinking when he realized that when she spoke, it kind of looked like a fish. Her mouth moved but hardly anything came out. Maybe she was part fish. Though, that thought disturbed him a bit when he imagined her as a giant tuna/human hybrid thing flopping around on the ground because there was no water around. The hybrid kept making a disgusting gasping noise as its gills flapped uselessly, and it was leaving nasty fish slime all over the floor. The thought alone was almost enough to make him gag. He bit his lip as he tried to get rid of that mental image, and eventually, he managed to replace it with a little goldfish in a bowl. The kind with the big, funny looking eyes. Ah, much better.

And, the whole time he was thinking, he was staring off into space. It wasn't until she spoke again that he snapped out of his thoughts. He kind of tuned out her quiet voice while he was imagining various fishes, but he was pretty sure he got the gist of it. He wasn't exactly sure if he was okay. People were starting to get up and get ready to go, and the teacher hadn't even shown their face yet. It would drive him crazy to leave without the teacher's permission, but it wasn't like he could sit in the classroom and wait for someone who clearly wasn't going to come. He couldn't tell her that though because, for one, too many words, and two, she already seemed nervous enough already. He didn't want to give the goldfish a heartattack.

He gave her a slight nod then paused for a moment before patting her head. A little reassurance wouldn't hurt her. He just hoped she wasn't the type to get all huffy about a gesture like that. With a sigh, he stood up from the desk and watched the others across the room, waiting for them to either stay or go. After all, he didn't want to be the first to leave (well, excluding the guy he nearly ran into earlier).
