Soquili Name: Cergen Telbran
Temper:
Your Beauty Wins Story:
Five years it had been since Cergen had last set a hoof on this beach.

Back then he was just a foal, playing, laughing and trying desperately to fit in. He was a gangly thing, his legs too long, his tail too thick and his mane was so scraggly that it was hard to do anything with. The other foals took notice of this immediately and began to poke fun at him. Cergen had tried to ignore it but they never let up. The worst part was, with his thicker than normal tail he had a hard time balancing on land, yet his trouble grew whenever he entered the water. That big tail was hard to control and often he found himself swimming out of control or accidentally hitting one of the other foals with it.

He had stuck through it for a long time, trying his best to ignore those harsh words the other foals threw his way. One day he thought he had finally gotten over it, the other foals hadn't said much about him lately, though granted he had barely been on the beach for the last week, so he ventured out looking forward to a day in the sand. He strode out with confidence, his head held high, his tail behind him unmoving (he had finally mastered keeping it under control) and all was going well until he tripped over a piece of driftwood half buried in the sand. The laughter came immediately, and all Cergen wanted to do was bury his head in the sand. But instead he picked himself up, and tried to brush it off. But the laughter continued, and so he ran away.

Standing at the edge of the trees Cergen looked out upon the beach. Had it really been so long since he had last been here? Yes it had. But now he was ready, his confidence was high, his gangly childhood frame had transformed into that of a well muscled stallion and he knew tonight would be the best night to return. Others were on the beach already, he recognized many of them from his childhood. Young colts had grown into stallions and those fillies he had remembered were now all beautiful mares. His eye fell upon a certain mare, he recognized her almost immediately. Her pale hide mimicked that of the sand, her mane was thick and braided. She was the one he had returned for more than anything else. Sure he wanted to show the others that he had changed, that he was no longer the awkward colt they teased in past years, but he wanted more than ever to see her. He had had a bit of a crush on her as a foal but she had not noticed him, except when he had fallen face first in the sand after tripping. Her laughing face was the last thing he had saw before he had run into the jungle.

Cergen glanced down at the monkey perched on a rock beside him. The monkey looked anxious. "Don't worry friend." Cergen said in a soft but strong voice. "This is the night they will never forget." The monkey nodded and then jumped upon Cergen's back, combing out a stray bit of hair before chattering his approval of the stallions look and then moving to a branch above him.

He had ran so far, so fast that he knew he wouldn't go back. His parents would worry but he could not face them again. Days he ran, ran until his legs just couldn't go anymore. And when he finally collapsed he found himself in the middle of the jungle surrounded by large trees, beautiful flowers, chirping birds and a hidden waterfall. As he recovered his breath a monkey came down the tree above him, making all kinds of noise. At first Cergen had been scared, and he cringed as the monkey moved closer. But then as he closed his eyes, afraid to see his end. To his surprise the monkey did not attack, instead he began running his fingers through the colts mane, chattering away. The monkey did not mock his appearance, but he did seem determined to make Cergen's mane just a bit more unruly.

The pair had become quick friends and while Cergen could never understand what the monkey was chattering about they worked together day and night. Cergen trained to get his tail to no longer be a burden. The monkey worked tirelessly on his mane, which slowly grew longer and thicker with time.

For five years the pair was together, grooming, training, eating, playing. Until Cergen finally announced that it was time for him to return to his home. The monkey, whether he understood or simply didn't want to part ways, joined him on the journey. Each morning when they woke up and each night before they went to sleep the monkey would use a small comb to brush through Cergen's long flowing mane. The act made Cergen's mane billow out behind him as he walked, even the slightest breeze caught hold of his mane and shaped it perfectly behind him. Along the way he picked up a few small trinkets, some shells which he attached to his leg by a length of leather and a discarded necklace that had been found on the jungle floor. He didn't need anything else, his mane, thickly muscled legs with their flowing hair and his large, unique tail would set him apart from the rest.

The sun was setting now and Cergen waited a moment longer. He wanted the rays of the setting sun to be just right for his appearance. As the first bit of orange light danced across the beach the large stallion stepped out of his hiding spot. He walked purposefully, towards the gathered group who were enjoying a night on the beach. At first no one noticed him, they were too caught up in conversation to see the stallion coming out of the jungle. But then someone caught his movement out of the corner of his eye and soon all conversation stopped. Who was this stranger walking towards them, the orange rays of the setting sun dancing across his body, highlighting his long flowing mane.

A murmur quickly raced through the gathered Soquili. They couldn't see him clearly enough at this point to know it was someone from their childhood but in another few steps Cergen would come clearly into their sights.

"Good evening." He said to them as he came to a stop several strides away. And there was another flurry of murmurs. Suddenly they knew he this stallion was, or at least they thought they knew. That tail gave him away but even then they were having a hard time believing this large, handsome stallion was the foal who had gone off the beach in tears years before.

"It can't be." One of the other stallions said.

"It sure looks like him." Another added.

As they began to discuss whether it was indeed Cergen or not he began to walk once more. The mare he had his eyes on was a bit further down the beach talking with some friends. Cergen walked past two mares at the edge of the group he had just spoke too, flashing them a smile. He was certain that he had heard them faint, falling to the beach as he walked away. He didn't look back though, his focus was on the mare in front of him. She suddenly looked over from her friends and he was certain he jaw dropped a bit. A light wind blew across the beach, tossing his long mane back perfectly, accenting the look he and his monkey friend worked so hard to maintain every day.

"Cergen?!" She said with shock, giving her head a bit of a shake wondering if he was an illusion.

"Yes, it's me." He told her stepped forward once more, moving closer to her. The other mares she was standing with took a few steps back but couldn't take their eyes off this handsome hunk with gorgeous hair.

"Wow." Was all the mare could say. She was dumbstruck but how handsome he was. Last time she had seen him he was running away. After a few moments she was able to gather her thoughts. "I'm glad you came back."

Cergen smiled and heard all the mares around him sigh. "I had to come back...to you." He told her and in that moment, the last rays of sunlight glinting in his eyes, his smile wide, mane groomed perfectly flowing out behind he, he knew he had come back and made an impression on everyone. With tears of joy in her eyes the mare stepped forward and pressed her nose against his. She had thought about his ever since the day he had left and was now so happy that he had returned, returned for her.

The others welcomed him back, apologizing for what they had done to him as a foal. Cergen laughed it off, telling them if they hadn't have done so he would have never gained the courage to find his true love, nor would he have met such a great and true friend as the monkey who had come to him in the jungle. Though he was handsome now, Cergen would never forget his roots as an ugly foal, for they had helped to shape him into the stallion he was today.

Soquili Name: Lahela
Temper: Curious
Your Beauty Wins Story:
She had seen them many times out on the beach. Two-leggers casting out these strange looking blankets into the water and then pulling them back into shore. Not every time they had things in them but when they did Lahela would be excited. She was of the sea herself, spending many hours under the waves, exploring and talking with other aquatic Soquili. Yet seeing that world come up onto this one always sent a chill of excitement down her spine. Her mother, a Kirin, had always told her that she was the best of both world, able to go into the depths like her father and explore land as well. Knowing that her mother could not venture into the depths Lahela was always looking for things to bring to her mother from below the water.

One day she was watching a two-legger at the shore when another came up, calling to him and the man pulled the net onto the beach but then left it there following the other. After some hesitation Lahela went over to the net. Some small silver fish flopped about, the sun dancing off their shiny scales, several shells and bits of coral were also caught up in the net as well as a few pieces of seaweed. Casting her eyes back to where the two-leggers had disappeared to she made her decision, she would take these things to her mother. With a bit of work Lahela laid the net across her back. As she headed home she found a large conch shell which, with a bit of work, she hung around her neck using several lengths of seaweed from the net. Just before reaching her home she found two starfish. Again using seaweed she tied them to her legs and then set off once more.

"Mother I'm home, and I have a surprise for you!"

Her mother came out from the trees and there was an instant smile on her face. "Oh Lahela you look so beautiful!" Lahela had always thought her mother was the most beautiful mare in all the world so hearing this brought a smile to her lips and a few tears of joy to her eyes.

"I brought these for you. We can add them to the others." Lahela suggested then went to shrug off the net.

"No, dear. I think you should keep them. Beautiful things for my beautiful daughter."

Stepping forward Lahela nuzzled her mother. "Alright mother, I will keep them." She whispered. While she had meant to give these things to her mother she could not refuse when her mother insisted that she keep them. From that day on Lahela wore her items with pride, some laughed, saying she looked silly but Lahela only smiled sweetly at them, knowing that the most important Soquili of all, her mother, had said she was beautiful with them and so she was.

Physical Description in writing:
Medium length brown hair, that is slightly wavy.
One her two front legs she has a starfish on each one held on by a length of sea weed.
Around her neck is a conch shell which is strung onto a seaweed necklace.
Draped over her back is a fishing net with all manner of aquatic things on it. Shells, small fish, seaweed, coral, etc. I only put a bit in the picture cause I just couldn't draw them, but there should be quite a few things in the net.

Soquili Name: Kaiya
Temper: Searching
Your Beauty Wins Story:

It was on an island she had only visited once in her life. Yearning for adventure, she had set out for the island, not knowing if she'd even be able to make it there or not; but she did make it, and this is her story.

In the middle of the sea, the island in view, but still a very far ways off, Kaiya began to grow tired. She was a good swimmer, being part Kelpie, but she wasn't as good as all the other sea creatures, for she was also built for the land. It was easier on her back legs, because of the kelpie fins she had there, but her front legs were slowed down by the small wings she had there. This was beginning to seem like a very bad idea. She began to slow, using nothing but her tail to propel her forward as she rested her legs.

Just then, a head peered out of the water in front of her. She nearly screamed, but she noticed that it was a friendly face. She began to tread water, watching to see what it was the mer soq wanted.

"Hello," he said, "I was a ways down, but I noticed your pink hair, and I had to come take a look." He tilted his head to examine her, a slight frown forming on his face. "Are you lost?" he asked her. It wasn't everyday you saw half-kelpies swimming out in the middle of the sea.

"No," she replied, "I'm trying to make it to the island."

"Then I shall assist you," he replied.

"N...no, that's okay, I can manage..." she pushed the words out and began swimming again, full speed ahead. This was her adventure and she didn't want any help.

The male caught up to her ver quickly, a smile tugging at his lips. He could see that she was stubborn, but he wasn't going to let her struggle all the way there by herself. That would have been dangerous.

"Do you know about the Mer tribe that guards that island?" he asked her, grinning.

"The...the what?" she exclaimed.

"The Mer tribe. They don't take kindly to unannounced visitors to their island."

This caused her to stop. She had indeed not heard about the Mer tribe. "What should I do?" she asked.

"Leave it to me." replied her new friend. "What's your name, sweetheart?"

"Kaiya..." she told him.

"Well Kaiya, grab onto my tail...and hold on tight."

She did as she was told, and away they went, faster than Kaiya ever could have gone on her own. As soon as they were near the island though, they stopped. Her companion brought her under the water a ways and gestured to a group of mer soquili in front of their path. "See them?" he asked her.

"Yes," she said, "but they don't look too scary to me."

"That's what they want you to think! Let me talk to them." And he swam off towards them. He conversed with them for a second, and all Kaiya could tell was that they were all grinning at each other. Next moment however, their grins turned evil and they began to swim straight towards her. She shrieked and began to swim to the surface. The mer who had helped her reached her first and yelled, "Grab on tight! Everything's going to be alright!" She grabbed his tail and kicked her feet and her own tail as fast as she could.

The Mer tribe came close, sharp teeth and swishing tails, but they never could touch them, for her companion was very fast. Not only did the Mers themselves come after them, but they sent many other dangerous sea creatures at their expense to catch their invaders. They made it safely to the shore however, and panting and gasping for air, Kaiya ran as far from the beach as she could. Some of the sea creatures were trying to come up onto the land after her, but her companion fought them away. Kaiya noticed that he seemed to be enjoying himself greatly. After fighting the last of them away he laughed joyously and turned towards Kaiya.

"That was fun!" He shouted, "A great adventure!"

"Fun?" She exclaimed. "We could have been killed!"

"Killed? Oh no," he explained. "Those were just my friends. An old game we always play."

Kaiya couldn't believe it. It had all been a game. She collapsed onto the beach to catch her breath. "Why didn't you tell me it was just a game?"

He just shrugged and grinned. "More fun that way. You were very grateful to me for saving your life, weren't you?"

"I was," she told him, "but not anymore."

"Aww, come on now. I did get you here safe. And now that you're here we can always play together and have lots of adventures."

"Always?" she asked.

"Always."

"No, I can't stay here forever, I have to get home."

"How will you get home without my help?" He grinned at her.

She glared at him. "Oh...I'll find away..." she called over her shoulder as she trotted farther inland where he could not follow her.

Physical Description in writing: She has long flowing pink hair, which is braided and goes down to her feet. In her hair is a little cat pin that pulls her bangs out of her eyes. She has black headphones, which no longer work, but she carries them around for sentimental reasons. Attached to her headphones is a black angel wing decoration, the same of which also decorates her front feet. On her front feet she also has a few Kirin scales. Since she is part Kirin, she also has the horn to show for it. From the island she made herself a necklace of sea shells. This is what she did in her spare time while plotting her escape. Her back feet are adorned by kelpie fins, and she has a black tattoo creeping up the side of her back left leg.
Any/All Reference Pictures/Sketches: hair color, cat hair pin, headphones, tattoo, angel wing detail, flowing hair for bangs, braid

Anything else: Of course she will make it off the island, but that is a whole other adventure! ;D

User Image -thumbnailed for you!- ^_^
Soquili Name: Alcyone
Temper: Serene
Your Beauty Wins Story: They say natural beauty is the most beautiful of them all. I am Alcyone, a natural beauty to embody the ocean meeting the shore. Let's face it, you can come out to the beach, but what about the glamorous coast catches your eye first? Why, the waves and their ebb and flow, am I right? How they break upon the golden sun-kissed sand and wash over the shells, before tumbling back out into the sea. Its an endless circle of beauty, and creates a beautiful sound that many find tranquil; like the song of the sea.

You see...my story is a simple one, a tale of how I helped a young filly find home. She was just a small sprite, with the wings of a flutter and the body of a kelpi. Couldn't seem to decide where she belonged. I had wandered much farther than the shore one day, and came upon her crying; asked her what ailed her. The filly herself explained she had no true parents, and no true home. She gazed at me in wonder as I laid down beside her. Home is where you want it to be, home is where your heart is, I explained to her.

She seemed to be distracted by how I looked, and I questioned it. The filly, Delmaria, told me it was because of how I looked familiar. I explained how I looked like the shore, and it was then the little dear decided that 'because I was beautiful, the shore must be beautiful,' and how it seemed the right home for her. We spoke awhile, about how enchanting the call of the sea can be. Eventually we lost all track of time, and the wee one grew tired. I sent her off to sleep with a lullaby,

"Oh, the waves roll low
And the waves roll high
And so it goes
Under the bright blue
Endless Sky
Waves try to measure
The days that we treasure
Wave hello
And wave goodbye~"

Physical Description in writing: The same as the base, but with literal wave breaking hair and lightened, wave foamy fins and eyes.

Soquili Name: Flick
Temper: Wild
Your Beauty Wins Story: Flick's return to the island wasn't a surprise to him. The beach would always be home to him. It was the reason I had items on me to always be reminded of home. Sighing as his feet hit the sand, at least this time he hadn't entered where she was standing, watching and waiting for him. It wasn't that he didn't like her, it was just...He was still too young to settle down. At least Flick thought he was.
"Well, I am home. No one to greet me, this time." No sooner had I said that, she galloped into view. I don't know why she didn't fly, her wings would lift her. "FLICK! You're home." Her wings opened up to wrap around me, but I moved back into the water.
I smiled, without having it reach my eyes. To tell her that I wasn't the foolish colt I use to be was not an option. I wasn't foolish back then, falling for her. At the time, a mare or stallion with wings always attracted me, but now...Now fins, those who could enter the water and swim below its surface. "Hello, dear. Are the rest near?" Her head bobbed as she looked towards the upper part of the beach. The rest where waiting, with more caution than her. "Well, let us be on our way."
Stepping up along side her, out of wing embrace though, I can tell she has something to tell me. It feels like it could be happy news, like she finally found someone to be her mate. As we approach the rest of the herd, I can sense that it is not joyous news. My parents are looking at me with sadness, and her parents look at me with contempt and sadness. "What is wrong? When I left everyone was happier." She looked at me, her wings drooping, "Come, I will tell you." We walked to my parents, my mother nuzzling me, and continued to a smaller area.
Being alone, again, she told me. "When you last left, remember the night before? You know...Us in the spring? Well, a couple of weeks later, I realized I was along the family way. Our parents were so happy, as you have been the only love for me. Though, I told mine you knew and still left, which I am sorry about. After they were born, something happened...Something took them away." Her voice dropped, as she shook with the silent tears falling down her beautiful face.
I couldn't believe it. I was speechless as what was said sank in. I had been a father, but not anymore. At least that was the way I took it. I leaned against her, knowing that I could never leave her again. Regardless of what happens tonight, I would be by her side. I sat with her, giving her what comfort I could. Soon her wing lifted and was put around me, "Come, let's get you to win this. We can figure it out later." Her beside me, the one I could always count on to be by my side. I realized that she had always been there, even as foals. I smiled at her, lifted off half of my back anklet and put it on her. She would always be there for me, and I for her.
Rejoining the group, the feelings changed in the herd. In that short of time, I changed as a stallion. I knew where I belonged and would always be there, like my parents. My traveling days were over, unless my mate was with me. She was all I needed now.

Physical Description in writing: A sand dollar anklet on his front leg, a shell one that looks like half a yin/yang on his back leg, both on seaweed/kelp like material. He has a moon shaped pendant hanging from braided leather cord. His hair is almost layered along his neck in a dark blue.

Soquili Name: Amaya (means Night Rain)
Temper: Delusional
Your Beauty Wins Story: Amaya hopped her way onto the stage in front of the judges table. She flopped herself onto her stomach on its floor and let the handle of the jar slip out of her mouth. The jar landed with a little plop on the ground and a few drops of water splashed out, "Oops, sorry there little buddy" she told the little clown fish. She lifted her blue eyes to the judges table and quickly looked down to her fish again, "You know Harpo, I don't think I ever told you how I found you" she murmured. She softly began her story in third person, as the judges all leaned forward to hear what the peculiar mare was whispering to her fish.

"It was nearly nightfall when Amaya glided her way into the cool ocean water. Every evening she concluded her day's jaunt with a quick dip in the salty water. Tonight she decided she would visit the little rocky island she had found a few months before with a lovely view of the night sky. She bobbed her way out to the island, keeping her lead above water the whole time not wanting the new seashell she had attached to her strand of pearls to fall off the last one.

When she arrived she began to settle in for the night, a two-legger had told her that stars would fall tonight and she could miss that. Then she heard a little *splish* from the water by her. Sure enough it was a little clown fish swimming around but he seemed to be stuck behind a big rock wall. Amaya tried her very best to move the wall but not! She couldn't. It was too heavy."

Amaya sounded as though she was speaking baby talk to the fish, but hadn't looked up once to see how the judges were reacting. She was staring intensely at the fish as if 'Harpo' understood every word she spoke.

"Finding herself to be useless Amya sauntered up to the immobile stone to politely ask it to move 'Dear rock' she said to it 'would you please kindly move so that this little fish can make his way home?' the rock to Amaya's despair did not reply so she resorted to flattery 'You rock, truly are the biggest and hardest I have ever seen. Never have I ever laid eyes upon a more beautifully cut, strong stone, like yourself. Would you ever been so kind as to turn yourself so that I may see all sides you?' Frustrated the mare kicked the rock and suddenly she heard it speak to her. At first it seemed to rumble but then its words came to her. 'Cease child' it said 'flattery and violence will not gain passage for that small fish but I have seen how your cool blue hair has been blown by the winds on this island. I have seen the sleekness of your coat when you emerge from the salty water, and I have smelled the sweet aroma of flowers that surround your being. You truly are a creature of beauty that far surpasses my own and because of your angelic features I will grant your friend passage. Merely a tribute to an angel.' Flattered by the rocks words Amaya stepped aside and let the rock turn to free the little fish. The fish had just entered its anemone home when the rocks sent a cascade of pebbles down toward it. Amaya dove into the water and snatched the fish out, in the process stinging her snout. The rock laughed as a sharp pebbles scratched the mare under her eye when she emerged from the pool of water. 'now your beauty is less than that of my own it rumbled' Amaya quickly fled after sticking the fish in a jar she used to collect shells in and filled it with sea water. As she paddled herself back to the mainland she spoke with the fish who called himself Harpo."

"That's how I found you Harpo remember?" for the first time since she began her story she glanced to the judges, "he has short term memory loss at times you see," she told them with a knowing look. Both the mare and fish had small little scars on themselves ever reminding them of how their friendship formed. The judges realized as the quirky mare walked off stage with fish carrier in mouth, that the scar did not mar her beauty as the rock said it did, but added to it. It was just another word in her life journal that made it her own. She only needed one word to represent herself. Scar.

Soquili Name: Nimue Una
Temper: independent
Your Beauty Wins Story:

Nimue strolled the beach and took note of the gathering of the usual suspects strutting around with their perfect manes and fake laughs. Such foolishness to feel the need to be so on display. Nimue herself had a light blue shawl wrapped around head and shoulders prefering the sense of mystery and the fact that the pearls woven into it were the results of her own hard work. She huffed dismissively at the display and turned to watch a group of young Soquilli at play. "Ahh the innocence of youth," she said softly to herself, but then she noticed a young kelpi nearby watching the other plays. Curious she approached.
"Good morning, young one. Why are you here by yourself?" she asked. "The others look like they're having fun. Why not join them?"
The youngster looked up, bitter tears in her eyes. "I would but some of them are so cruel to me, all because I don't look like them," she replied. "Sometimes my friends and I will play separately but its currently a big group game and they really wanted to play. I said it was ok."
She looked over the youngster, she had the gawkiness of foalhood but so did the others. In the place of a mane of hair that grew on the others she had a multicolored fincrest between her ears.
"What's wrong with how you look?" Nimue asked finally though she suspected the answer.
"I don't have hair, just this silly fin."
Nimue huffed again with aggivation. She'd thought the youths innocent, but they were just as guilty of foolishness as their elders. Finally she gave a shake of her head and her shawl feel revealing her own finned mane and assorted spikes. Her's was an exotic beauty enhanced by the shawl and jewels she wore and the light touch of pink on her eyelids.
The youngster looked up wide-eyed at the reveal. "You.. you're so pretty!" she said.
Nimue grinned. "Thank you. There are many that think so, but there are many others that still find it odd to have spikes and fins instead of flowing hair. Frankly I think it gets in the way especially when one is at work or play. Look at how they have to toss their heads to get forelocks out of their eyes to see the ball."
The young kelpi looked and laughed as she observed one of the worst bullies doing just that.
"Exactly. There is value in all of us. Don't let the bullies stop you. But you won't prove anything sitting on the sidelines watching the fun. Join the game and ignore the taunts or toss some back," she grinned wickedly something which added to her exotic beauty. "Or go do your own thing, explore and have something to share with your good friends when they tire of playing with the others. Now what shall it be?"
"I... I..." the little one was at a loss. Here before her stood a beauty of her own kind and it shone through inspite of the spines and fins. She'd never thought how being different could be a beauty all its own. Deanna smiled as she watched the youngster's eyes light up from the lesson now learned.
"I think I need some time to think about this all," she finally replied.
"Ok then," Nimue said with a smile. "If you ever need someone to talk to don't hesitate to come find me. I'm Nimue Una, a pearl diver from this beach. Most of the locals will be able to point you in the right direction."
"Thank you Miss Una," she replied and got up to wander down the beach on her own.
Nimue smiled again and continued on her own way. Exotic beauty had its uses and apparently one was to help a child find a sense of herself.

Physical Description in writing: Instead of flowing locks she has a mane of delicately finned spines, additional spikes across the top of her head form into a sort of crown. She wears a light blue shawl that matches her fins dotted with multicolored pearls. Each color pearl is repeated in the studs in her ears and in matching necklaces and bracelets. The necklaces and bracelets have graduated sizing with one much larger at the centers. She has a touch of pink to her eyelids to match that shade on her pearls and ties it all together.
Any/All Reference Pictures/Sketches: multicolored pearls black pearls

Anything else: I love the look of the fin manes or full baldness on the aquatic varieties. I decided to try an entry that stressed that rather than the long flowing "mermaid" tresses that often appear, though I do adore those too. I used one strand of each color but they could certainly be mixed like my one reference. She would probably have a variety of accessories in pearl, abalone and coral to show off her wares as a diver.

Soquili Name: Melia
Temper: Cheerful
Your Beauty Wins Story:
Melia bounced anxiously as she waited her turn and grinned as the stones around her leg clinked together in song. Well it was a song to her though from the dirty looks she was getting she guessed not everyone felt that way. No matter. Those stones represented her family and she wouldn't remove them for anything!

She sighed as the next one went up and let her thoughts drift to her family. Her momma always told her she was beautiful, though to be fair she said that about all her children (her brother loved that of course). However if there was one thing her momma was enchanted by, it was the ocean. Melia agreed that nothing was more pretty than the water flowing calmly, or ravaging the shore as a storm passed. She planned to gush about the lovely sea to win this contest and knew she would win with her enthusiasm!

She frowned as her eyes drifted to the stones around her leg again. Five stones for her family; one for her in the middle and one each for momma, papa, her older sister and little brother. They were so far away and she missed them terribly but she was strong! (Nodding to herself as she made her 'strong' face). They would be proud of her when she won this contest!

She grinned a bit madly as another Soq went up on stage. Not many left before her turn now. Bouncing in anticipation again she glanced around at the others waiting and noticed a few more dirty looks added to the previous ones. She just shrugged and stuck her tongue out at them. They were just jealous cause she had mommas pretty jewels. The necklace and tail adornment were her mommas prized possessions. Her papa had given them to her on their mateship. Momma never let them out of her sight or let anyone wear them, no matter how much her sister had pleaded.

Melia flicked her hair back as her grin got a bit more intense. Momma had always put her hair in pigtails too. She liked them as they kept Melia's long tresses out of her way as she ran around in her play. Now Melia could see that logic and kept her hair the same way. She liked how they bounced with her now. Momma would be pleased with her.

Oh! It was her turn... finally! She bounced on stage and waved merrily to the judges. "Hello! I'm Melia and beauty is the OCEAN!" She spun and trailed off as her stones chimed again. She frown and gave a quick glance down. They weren't happy and she knew why. "Sorry.. umm like I said I'm Melia and... well... " She ran a hoof through the stones letting them sing again. "... Actually I think beauty (for me anyway) would be these stones. Cause you can't ever really be beautiful without remembering those who always said and believed you were" She nodded firmly, smiled once more and marched off stage. Now momma and papa would really be proud of her.. she knew it!

Physical Description in writing: Melia has light blue hair that is always in big, bouncy pigtails, held up by purple ties. She wears her mothers silver necklace and tail cuff that each have blue stones in them. On her front leg she also wears a thin blue cuff of sorts that has five stones hanging from it at different lengths. The middle stone is a dark blue with two of the others being a light shade and the other two being a medium one. they often swirl around her leg as she moves and clink together. Each stone is shaped differently.
Any/All Reference Pictures/Sketches: Ref This is the piece I based the shape of the necklace pendant on and got the colors for the stones from

Anything else: Melia is mainly cheerful, though never really has any other intense emotions. As you may have got from the hints in the story her family is dead from a freak accident (though if she gets made I do want one of the siblings to show up later). So she's kinda stuck in her eternal world of optimism and while she KNOWS they are gone doesn't really act that way or accept it. She never really got out of her child mentality and so can be very naive about the world. She's also very expressive, as in every thing she thinks about and feels inside is shown on her face. If she thinks of something funny she grins, if she gets determined about something her face shows that too.. so she can be quite comical to watch as shes thinking. She LOVES the ocean and shades of blue and anything really that's remotely connected to water and the sea. She also constantly thinks of things in the term of her mother and how she viewed them and mimics that mindset... so its possible she may not like the sea quite so much but... who knows. XD

Soquili Name: Kane
Temper: Realistic
Your Beauty Wins Story:

How had he ended up here? No, really HOW did this happen? Looking out over the sea of people Kane sighed, exasperated, closing his eyes momentarily as he thought about what to say and the reason behind him standing before these people now. He heard a cough, rude and no doubt one to move the show a long. He opened his eyes to seek out the cough with an unamused stare. 'Ahh now I remember, it's all down to that barnacle head.' His glare tightened at the sight of another stallion in the crowd, grinning, smug and finally Kane knew exactly what to say...

The start to the day was ordinary, just me and Shark lying on the beach, the sun on our back, the cool breeze in our locks of hair. His hair shinning a brilliant silver, spikey, untouched by whatever nature wanted to throw at him as it always seemed to bounce right back in to place. Mine, flat, sweeping my eyes and clinging to my body as if it were scared to be free. I had to admit, it had it's perks being Shark's best pal, he was considered a 'Tiki God' amongst the women, with his cool demeaner and his oh so confident grin he flashed every once in a while to seduce someone to his way of thinking. Me, I had none of that, afterall no one ever saw my face and to be fair I liked it that way. No one could judge me on my looks and I could admire everyone elses from afar. I was practically invisible.

Until she appeared.

I had never seen anyone like her, she wasn't like all the other babes that walked by, who tossed their manes back in to the wind and batted their eyelids till they had you chasing tails like a lost little puppy. No, she didn't need to do any of that. She had natural beauty, every stallions dream. Her rear swayed like a palm tree subdued to the warm breeze and chocolate colored hair combed back, pinned with various flowers, gifts that secret admires left for her; she was too nice not to refuse them and often changed them so none of her admires felt left out.

To me, she just looked lonely. Nobody ever talked to her, the women jealous and the men too intimidated. Me, I just didn't exist and in a world where nobody knew who you were compared to being loved and still having to be alone, she had it worse. I watched as she neared the waves, placing her two front hooves slowly in to the water, her eyes studying them closely. I was trying to figure out what she was thinking, whether I should make my way over there and be the one to finally give her the 'hello' she deserved when in an instant that moment was swiped from before my very eyes.

"What are you gawking at?" Never in my life had that voice been as annoying as now. "Oooh or should I say, who?" I could even hear that damn grin as it creaked across his lips. Turning my head hesitantly I rolled my eyes under the bush that was my mane and leered at him.

"Why the sudden interest?"

"Well I ask because if you stared any more intently at her you're going to burn holes right through her man. She was an ant to your magnifying glass, you get the picture." He winked, laughing at my expense. I sighed in defeat, maybe he was right besides it wasn't like she noticed anyway. "She is a total babe." That got my attention. "You... Like her?" My voice was almost a whisper, heart on hold for the answer, knowing it would just implode if he said what I just knew he was going to say. If he did, it was all over. Nobody ever turned Shark down.

"Who doesn't?" He grinned, shaking his head. "Your looking at me with an expression like a slapped arse." He looked back towards the waves.

I shook off my disappointment almost defensively.

"All is fair in love and war..." I mumbled, feeling quite bitter. If I didn't do something he would be riding off in to the sunset with her and all I would be able to do is watch as I crash and burn in the dust behind them and I wasn't about to let that happen. I had to come up with something fast and quick to stop him from jumping the gun, to give me a fair chance. What could I do. My eyes were hawking our surroundings, just a plain of golden sands, stalls and then my eyes targeted the savoir.

The beauty contest.

"Hey... How about a challenge? You know, like when we were kids." I smirked, raising a brow at him. "The beauty contest, whoever wins, gets the girl?" I sounded more certain than I was, what was I doing? I just challenged Shark at his own game, how was I going to win over the 'Tiki God among women' in a beauty contest? Had I gone mad? Nobody even knew who I was!

He looked genuinely taken back. "Wow, where did THAT come from? Didn't think you had it in ya' man." He paused, as if he had to think about it and then flashed that famous broad grin my way. "Fine, it's a deal. Game on-" He started to climb to his feet and in turn I decided to match his movements. "-But from now until then, there is nothing stopping us from idle chatting."

"Shark..." I glared, a hard line engraving across my lips.

"Okay, okay, don't worry. All I'm going to do is invite her, it would seem pretty pointless to do this if she wasn't there to witness it, right?"

Barnacles. Fair play. I sighed, nodding. "Don't get too far a head of yourself." I turned and walked away, down the beach. I needed to prepare myself, do something to get me noticed but all I could think of was Shark charming the hooves off of her.

Retreating to my den by the sea I searched for something that may help me win this thing, it was all about being noticed, about generously good looks and I needed some serious help in that department. After what felt like forever, kicking shells and pearls out of the way I found the answer. I could use some sea slug slime to whip my hair in to shape and a necklace I had found at the bottom of the sea, some poor souls treasure forever lost; finders, keepers. Taking a look in the small lake running in to my den, I smiled rather proud at the result. My mane looked glossy and untamed, my face more visible than usual and the necklace just gave my new look 'the edge' it needed. Was that considered cool? One could only hope.

"Here goes." Taking a deep breath in, I stepped out in to the open and began making my way towards the crowds on the beach, keeping a steady pace. It was only when I heard a gasp close by that I froze, paranoid and wondering only now if I looked totally rediculous. I turned my head around to where the intake of air came from nervously, my visible eye lingering over a group of girls. They were giggling... Was that good or bad? Suddenly I felt out of place, I looked away trying not to bring any more attention to myself I just continued walking, a lop sided frown kicking at my lips.

What was I thinking? There is no way I could out-do Shark and not like I wanted to, I just wanted to impress 'her.' What was the point? Why would she want a guy like me, useless and non-existent.

"E-excuse me?"

My ears swiveled around as my head jerked around, stunned that the voice had come from someone so close. I looked at the girl beside me and I couldn't do anything but stare at her, silently. She was cute, bright yellow hair, black and silver crossing her lids, slim figure and shiny fur.

"Me and a couple of friends are holding a party tonight after the events and wondered if you wanted to join us? You see, my friend thinks your really hot but don't tell her I told you okay? She would be really embarrassed." She bit her lip in an apologetic, maybe-I-should-of-kept-my-mouth-shut kind of way. I tried to think what Shark would do, then tossed whatever came in to my mind away, I wasn't Shark just because I had to do something to look more noticable didn't mean I needed to change who I was. I smiled warmly, appreciatively and nodded. "Thanks, I don't see why not."

She giggled, blushing scarlet. "I'm so glad! See you tonight!" Her grin was stretched ear to ear as she set back off in a hurry towards her friends. I watched, dumbfounded. They were genuinely happy, they noticed me, their friend liked me, thought I was hot!? It was working. My spirits were lifted as I continued a long, many people coming up to me asking if I was new around here, if I was coming to this party over and over again if I wanted to join them.

It was exciting at first then exhausting, really exhausting.

I had only just managed to escape the rush of people by a blessing second of an announcement made by one of the stall owners, saying there was a contest of sorts. I sighed in relief, glad to have a moment to think to myself as I headed towards the sea to cool off and to prepare myself for the contest. Wondering if Shark had already spoke to her. I frowned, out of all those people she hadn't been one of them.

"Are you okay? You look... Tired."

I tried to pick up a smile. These people sure knew how to creep up on you when you least expected it. Had everyone turned in to ninja's all of a sudden? I looked to my right at the figure beside me, opening my mouth to shoot off an automated response.

"I'm al-"

It was her. My body was shaking, boiling, over-loading in seconds and the words escaped me. She was even more beautiful up close. Oh gods, you sent me this godess in my time of need. I THANK YOU.

"Erm..."

Oh right! "I-I'm alright, just nervous..." How lame, was that the only thing you could think of? I rolled my eyes at my thoughts, as they were doing the same at me no doubt. "Nervous?" She asked curiously, tilting her head, hair rolling gracefully over her shoulder. I could of melted, she was heaven on earth and heaven was speaking to me, praise the lord!

"Yeah.. I'm entering the beauty contest." I paused, mumbling the next part. "Made a deal with a friend."

"Oh!" She chuckled, a sweet melody to my ears. "Good luck, I've always been too afraid of being in front of crowds of people and that is a really brave thing to do, no wonder your nervous." She smiled and now it was my turn to blush like a giddy, love-struck girl. "You're beautiful."

I had the urge to blurt out 'So are you!' but my teeth clamped hard on to my tongue till it filled with a metalic taste, my eyes diverting to the sea. "Thanks, would.. Would you like to come watch?"

There. I said it, this was the chance, the opportunity I had been waiting for and she looked so happy. "After maybe you could occompany me to an after party, it's gonna be fun?" Hope filled my eyes and my heart as I turned myself fully towards her, a thrashing of beats in my chest as the suspense thickened in wait.

"That's so nice of you." Oh s**t. I knew it, she was rejecting me, always a damn 'but.' My expression of glistening hope faded to reflect my disappointment. "I would but somebody already asked me but I will see you there?" I stared at her smile and gave a half-heartfilled one in return. "Right." With a nod, I turned to leave, the beauty contest entrants being called to the stage. "I have to go, I'll see you later?" She nodded, that pearly smile still hadn't faded and it took what felt like a lifetime to pull my stare away from it, the pang of her admittance still stinging in my bones. I felt sick and weak. Did this mean it was over?

I stood before the stage watching the other contestants till it was my turn, annoyed, irritated. How was I supposed to do this in such a state? I had even missed Shark's speech and cat walk, I could see puddles of dribble left on the floor from the girls since his turn, what an absolute co** he was. There was no way I was winning this thing.

"I forgot to mention earlier." I jumped out of my skin, freakin ninja's they were everywhere! "Wha-?" I blinked frantically, mouth dropped still in shock. It was her again and that sweet melody of laughter brought me back to some reasonable position and state of being. "I'm free tomorrow, if you want to hang out?" I watched as she shuffled her hooves, awestruck. Was she... Nervous? Holy Tiki! I blinked some more. "Of course!" I blurted out then shook my head. "I mean, I would love to." With a warm smile, I heard my name being called and hesitated to leave, I was too excited, too happy to leave but I said I would do this and now, I had something to keep my spirits high.

Maybe I could do this afterall, all thanks to you.

Kane finished his speech, looking around at the expressions of all those before him, not caring anymore whether he was good enough for them or beautiful enough to win this. That wasn't what it was about.

"So... That's the story. I don't know if you feel like my beauty helped me achieve these things but I feel like a winner. It finally made me realize that I needed to do something for myself, instead of sitting back and watching everyone else enjoy their lives. It earned me the opportunity to talk to the most beautiful woman I had ever seen and speak to people and understand them a little more, these people who's faces were just strangers passing by before today." He smiled, bowing his head. "I guess there is only one thing left to say - Thank you."

Physical Description in writing: Kane's mane is a light, sandy blonde. He has a block fringe, a lump of hair that falls over his right eye and a couple of stray strands that flick out in to his face. A couple of strands next to his face and the top of his head are wayward. The back of his mane is untamed and flows out in various ways.

Around his neck is a necklace, made of blue gems the string is a plain black. It overlaps, since it's wrapped around his neck twice.

Soquili Name: Kaelani
Temper: Shy
Your Beauty Wins Story:
It was her turn. Her legs shook, every bit of her quaking. "Oh my, oh my, oh my." Her voice was a high pitched squeak as she flicked her mane further over the right side of her face, covering the hideous scarring of barnacles that grew upon her flesh. The dryness in her mouth was almost choking, she couldn't even swallow from nervousness. Keeping her eyes cast downwards, she moved her legs forwards slowly. They felt like giant logs, stiff and awkward as she shuffled forwards onto the stage. She could feel all eyes turning towards her. Then came the silence. The awful, awful silence.

It weighed upon her shoulders, almost making her stop and turn to run back behind the curtain. Their stares were harsh, probing her. Her tail flickered up in an attempt to cover up the heaving mass of shelled creatures on her rump, feeling incredibly self conscious. What was she, the recluse, the scarred one, doing here? But she kept her eyes downwards, picking out the cracks in the flooring, refusing to answer their silent questions. Slowly she shuffled along further and further until she reached the edge of the stage.

"So.. erm..." Her eyes flickered upwards for a brief moment, seeing the confusion of the Soquili around her. Her mumble had gone unheard. She cleared her throat, before daring to look up properly with her one uncovered eye. "I-I-I'm Kaelani." She bit her lip, nervously worrying the floor with one hoof. "I'm t-t-told it means 'sea', which I g-guess rather suits." A low giggle escaped between her teeth as she twitched her ears in anxiety.

"I know I don't l-look like the m-most amazing creature out there, a-and I come with a lot of baggage." She kicked the anchor gently, whose rope was tied tightly around her body, hoping to entice another small laugh. "B-but please hear out my story." Taking a deep breath, she moved her tail, uncovering the left side of her body that was so hideously overgrown. She heard the gasps of the crowd, her brief lapse of courage flickering. "Erm.. erm... I... I wasn't always like this. Covered in barnacles, dripping with sea water. Once I was beautiful."

They wouldn't believe her. It was over. She stood, shaking, unable to speak another word.

"Hey! Missy, let's hear the story!" A stallion's voice cried out from the crowd.

"Yeah! We want to hear!" Another called, before the crowd took up a low murmur of assent.

Kaelani looked up in shock, "W-well. It was a long time ago. I-I was standing near the top of a cliff when I heard a voice cry out for help. It was coming from the water below. I-I saw flailing limbs. It was a foal, drowning. I-I acted on instinct. I leaped down, knowing I could swim well. I-I have kelpi blood after all." She waggled the fins on the back of her back to prove her point.

"I hit the water hard, and by the time I got my b-bearings, I realised I could no longer see the young one. I knew she'd gone down. I-I tried to dive down after her, b-but she was sinking too fast and was too deep down. S-so I saw this anchor lying on the rocks nearby, from a shipwreck or something, and had an idea. I-I grabbed the rope and pulled it off, meaning to hold onto it and let the anchor's weight drag me down. I started to sink, deeper and deeper, h-holding my breath and looking for the foal. I s-saw her. I saw out to her and managed to get a grip on her with my teeth, b-but the rope of the anchor pulled taught around me and I couldn't get free. I-I struggled. The anchor crashed into a rock and lodged there, making me hit it too. Some b-barnacles cut my side open, and I guess that's where I picked up one of the buggers. Anyway, the rope was long enough that even with the anchor tied to me, I could just about reach the surface with the foal if I swam really hard."

She was caught up in the tale, her nerves steadying as she spoke more and more. "When I broke through the surface, it was like a miracle. The foal was alive, thanks to me. I was a hero. B-but, the wound festered and some barnacles somehow started to grow on my skin. I went to see a healer, who said I could try to kill them or let them be. I-I couldn't kill them, they were too much a symbol of what I had achieved, so that's why I'm covered in them now. And, of course, I still have the anchor to remind me too."

This was it. The end. She took another deep breath. "So I came here today to prove that beauty isn't all in appearances. I may be horrible and covered in these creatures, but I have a pure soul and would like to be judged on that. I came to prove that I am still beautiful." She took a step back, nervously awaiting their reaction.

A thunderous roar of approval filled her ears. She'd done it. She was beautiful.

Physical Description in writing: She has a long, flowing mane. It is windswept and made of various hues of blue. A fringe sweeps over the right side of her face, covering most of it.
An old anchor rests between her front legs. It is slightly rusted and rather heavy looking. The rope tied to it winds all the way around her body, tying the anchor to her.
Fresh bits of sea weed hang over her body, draping across her. It looks as though she recently went for a swim.
Barnacles grow on her in patches (the fuzzy green bits on her). There are a few patches on her legs/tail. Her entire left hindquarters/leg is covered in them, as is the right side of her face (a few can just be seen peeking out from under her fringe).
Any/All Reference Pictures/Sketches:

Soquili Name: Starling Pearl
Temper: Serene
Your Beauty Wins Story:

As a foal her mother brought her to the ocean. Telling her not to go in to far for it was dangerous. She would pout and plop herself down on the sand.

One day she approached the shoreline and discovered a beautiful pink starfish. Her mother told her it was a gift from the ocean so she placed it upon herself. In the distance she could see a sea creature dancing along the waves. She asked her mother what it was her mother had replied with “I am not sure. I do not know much of the ocean dwellers.”

When she was older, she was one to always collect things from the ocean. Starfish clung to her body and seaweed wrapped around her legs. Her fashion statement might seem weird to most but she didn’t care what others thought of her. Starling found beauty for whatever washed ashore. A friend of hers created a crown made of coral and gave it to her as a gift.

“Queen of the Coral!” he called her.

It may have been a joke but she was delighted by the nickname. Starling would spend many hours by the ocean. Staring off into the distance wishing deep within her; that she could explore the deep blue depths. Though she knew it was impossible she still couldn’t keep her mind off from the roaring waves of the ocean.

One day she came to ocean there resting on the shoreline a light caught her attention. She headed towards it and discovered a rare find. A large pearl something she had never seen before of that size. As her tail wrapped around the pearl she could hear a splash close by. She looked up and noticed a dolphin “Have you brought this to me?” she asked.

The dolphin only replied with a giant flip. Starling Pearl felt her heart burst with happiness. How long had this dolphin noticed her visits?
Later one her friend pushed her to go to a beauty contest. She lined up with the rest glancing at the other contestants. She found beauty in everyone but she didn’t know if everyone would find her assemble to be beauty or just clutter?

As she stood on the stage and looked towards the judges “My story?” she said softly. In her mind she could hear a little dolphin friend. A small smile crossed her lips as she began to tell the story about her friend the dolphin her little gift giver.

Physical Description in writing:
Starling Pearl has white long hair that flows and straight bangs. Around her two legs is seaweed that wraps around almost like ballet slippers. Along her body she has starfish sticking to her pelt. Upon her head a dark blue coral crown and a big pearl that is resting in her tail.

Anything else: Lol I can’t draw well. I would like some kind of seashell necklace. I attempted but I couldn’t do it, if you want to add the dolphin friend or something that is okay. Also you can CC anything else to add to her. xD

Soquili Name: Melinda (“dark serpent” or “sweet serpent”)
Temper: Intrepid
Your Beauty Wins Story:
Hsssssk! Creeee - Creeeeeee!

Ah, my turn is it? Well it's about time! Right then. (clears throat as one unnerved Soquili squeaks. She presents a toothy smile)Hello hello, dears! I'm Melinda and I'm rarin' to go for the story portion of this con- Hey, still alive over there? Why's it so quiet?

Creeeeee.

Oh, what, you're afraid of a bit of hair? (warm chuckles) My babies wouldn't harm a fly! Really they're all bark, and besides only one of them is actually capable of electrical shock. Joking, joking – Spirits, you look as limp as a piece of seaweed! It’s perfectly safe! Well, so long as you don’t upset them. Or smell like you have food. Or smell like food.

Now where was I? Ah, my story! By the way, it's so good of you judges to have this part included in the contest. It show forethought.

Let’s see, the beginning. Well I was born in the . . . Oh, you don't have a word for it in this language, but the best translation I got is "Blood-Water-Abyss" Clan. Your average group of violent amphibious Soquili dedicated to the destruction of our enemies, yes, I don't have to go into detail since I'm sure you know what that's like. Your blank faces tell me so.

I being my adventurous self decided to show my father that I was more than capable of taking down my own prey, so one day I swam to the darkest reaches of our territory to find the . . . hmm. “Red-Eye-Swift-Swimmer”. It’s this legendary beast with huge teeth that they used to scare us foals with to make sure we didn’t stray. I showed them, huh?

So I’m tracking this beast down when this older kelpie gets in the way and snaps at me, saying I shouldn’t be there, my parents must be worried, what was I thinking, blah blah blah. Like I hadn’t taken my first bite of enemy flesh already! I nipped at her to show her who’s boss and swam right onward to my quarry.

Well, uh, sorta. It turned out to be just a shark, but that’s not the point.

Eventually I had to make my way back (it was getting dark and all, and even I knew the hunt was lost at this point), so I turned about to head home. And the old mare stops me again! This time she’s nagging me about something, I dunno, like treating elders with respect and how clearly my head was full of chum and all sorts of crotchety old Soquili sayings. (mischevious smile) So I nipped her again, this time harder so she’d get the point that I really didn’t care. She yelled something at me as I headed back, and evne though it gave me shivers I didn’t really pay any attention. I just wanted to get back home before my parents noticed I was missing, y’know?

Only when I woke up, I had worse problems: somehow, my hair got turned into eels. Freakin’ eels, man! Even my normally bloodthirsty clan got all sorts of skittish when they saw me. Called me all sorts of names too: Medusa Mane, Eel Lips, even just boring ol’ mutant. My parents tried to keep thigns easy for me as I grew up, but I just got kinda sick of it. The second I turned into an adult, I got the heck out of there and just sorta . . . swam around until I felt like coming on land? It’s hard to stay depressed about the exile when you’ve got such lovely conversation partners. Isn’t that right, my sweetieees~?

CREEEEE KRICK KRICK HSKHSSSSSSK~

Oh yes yes, you are my lovelies, my big, hissy, bashful babies~ Now smile to the judges for m-

Uh. Hello?

Where’d everyone - ?

. . . Huh. Well they left the Beauty Queen Crown behind. I told you this fishbone was lucky! Guess that means we won, my dears! : D

Physical Description in writing: Most notable about the mare is the fact that her wild/messy dark hair transitions into lively, green eels with red eyes. A string of pearls wraps about her tail, a brain coral flower arrangement holds about one backleg, and two simple shell bracelets hang from her forelegs. Spots dapple her back, tail, and legs in tricolor white/tan/brown., and a fishbone hands from her mouth. A hibiscus flower also is by her ear.
Any/All Reference Pictures/Sketches:
One shell bracelet look slike the ref above, the other looks like this

Anything else:
The eels can have differing expressions and the accessories can be CC’d about a bit, but otherwise I’m good!

Soquili Name: Canon Key Nonet {Side note: Goes by Key }
Temper: Alternative
Your Beauty Wins Story:

They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. One man's trash is another's treasure. What the majority may find repulsive and unseemly, another may find unique and intriguing. With beauty it has no set definition, or example that can truly express itself. It is everything, and anything, that is viewed as miraculous and unmarred in its state.

Coming from a family that surrounded itself in aesthetically pleasing beauty, maintaining poise, elegance, and class to a high degree, with artistic and logical challenges and knowledge held with great expectations, Key would easily have been born into a very common genre of beauty. Mane's combed or curled to perfection, holding a sheen that made the light reflections on water dull in comparison. Coats sleek, smooth, and glossy. Hooves polished like a precious gem refined. One might compare such a sight and society to the Greek Mythology tales of gods and goddesses walking amongst the lands, but hidden from mere mortals. There was a radiance that surrounded the herd, almost making them seem ethereal or some sort of untouched civilization. The majesty, the glamour, the regal vibe of the herd... to most it would be like a dream or fantasy... but to Key, it was a place she felt suffocated.

She didn't fit the bill like the rest of her colony, so to speak. Sure, the natural beauty from her coat, to mane, and sparkling sapphire eyes made her fit in with the rest of the angelic beauties, but... her personality wasn't in sync with their's. While most wanted to take leisurely strolls, and admire the birds passing by, she wanted to race after those birds just to see if she could beat their speed of flight. A ghost of a grin would twirk at the corner of her fine lips upon watching them, the tickling sensation rising within her. When music was played, or soft songs sung, her vocals wanted to belt out, and let loose, falling into a run up and down scales, with a vibrato that challenged the rapid beats of a hummingbirds wings. To dive into the depths of lakes and see what resided below, rather than dip into the shallow ends. To try and out wit even the smartest of individual's, and challenger the rituals and regulations that were instilled into her family. Going against the grain of what was set, daring the untested or asked... That was what festered inside as her time as a foal transformed.

As a young mare, an adult now, Key found a semi-sharp tongue and mind, though managed to control and delegate it with the natural grace and mannerisms that she'd grown up on. It caused her to join those of the witty rankings, and hold a spice of sarcasm. Why should things be this way and that? How come it wasn't like that or this? The same old monotony was wearing thin on Key, and her own sense of priority's, ideal's, and take on the world contorted into something of her own deviation. Where lighter tones, and softer fabric's were commonly worn, she decided to adorn herself in darker colours, black favorably, and a less flowy fabric's; more tight and hugging to her form. Her billowing locks of hair were chopped and rearranged to cascade down one side of her head instead, a mohawk devised, unusual piercing placements, amounts and trinkets adorned on her body, with a heavy shadow brushed along her eyelids. A small bit of her heritage was kept, to only further sort of... boggle the minds of her people. Lace trimmed along her accessories and articles of clothing, tender and delicate. It was a tip of the hat, so to speak, to her culture, but also a significant demonstration of how two opposite sides of the spectrum could coexist. Of course, she was looked at with horror, and disbelief. Though the changes were minute, their impression was enormous. Her parents and family embarrassed... In time she was ignored, banished, and unseen as one of their own... It was something she had always felt though... the lack of connection, a bond not fully there... Though it stung, it was truly just a sign of how her own take on beauty was more wild rather than refined.

Venturing out, and changing her name, Key took the world in stride. Maintaining a balance of what she'd learned from her secluded homelife, and the individuality inside her, she enjoyed her views on beauty to the fullest... and wasn't afraid to show it.
Who cares what everyone else thinks? It only matters what you think.

Soquili Name: Sarai
Temper: Misleading
Your Beauty Wins Story:

True beauty is not finding a handsome stallion, or helping out a foal, or winning a ribbon. For her, beauty is power. The power to control, to command. True beauty is what men will die to behold, and that and only that can really be considered beautiful. She is beauty embodied: a siren, they call her. Though in reality, she is only the halfbreed daughter of one, shunned by her sisters for her cloven hooves, lack of fins and her shortness of breath underwater, given to her by her kirin father. It is why she lives alone on her island and why she does not join the herd of her sister kelpie, calling their siren song to passing ships. But they have never broken her, only strengthened her determination.

She stands tall against the broken shore as the surf crashes around her, whipping her ocean coloured locks through the air behind her, only held back from her face by the starfish and coral that binds it in place. Her blue eyes, as they so often do, gaze distantly out to beyond the sea, her sight grazing the horizon line as she searches beyond. And it is here that she first sees him. Not him at first necessarily, but the ship. The most glorious of its kind that she has ever seen. And she has seen many. She has crashed the hulls of a thousand ships against the broken cliffs and boulders that guard her home and still she has come up empty of what she looks for. Something that will once and for all prove that she is worthy of a siren’s name, that she is better than her sisters.

It is in this ship, she knows her worth will be proven. She can tell it apart at any distance, would know it in her sleep. The only ship to have resisted her sisters calls, the ship decorated with a mersoq banner and commanded by a king, dressed in glorious riches and wearing a golden crown decorated with all manner of precious jewels. She marks it, and in her mind makes it hers. As it continues on its path, rolling back and forth on the waves her eyes never leave it. The ship approaches, and here she begins to sing. Her voice is softer than a true sirens, but lovely in a way that they cannot match. It is a song of sweetness, sadness and longing, a melody almost painful in it’s beauty. It is not as entrancing as her sisters, but perhaps that is exactly why it catches the attention of the king in his jeweled crown. For all he can close his ears to the siren song, he is curious about hers. It is like nothing heard on the seas before and he looks around for the source before his eyes find her. She knows he is watching her now, taking in her her appearance and questioning. She does not have the look of a typical siren and in this is also an advantage. Her soft voice and fawnlike coat portray a subtle innocence the sirens could never hope to capture as her hair gently blows, sunlight playing off of her strings of pearls and coral necklace. He is not yet won over, still unsure what to make of the songstress with the sky blue eyes, decorated with the treasures of the ocean.

But when their eyes meet and she smiles - oh, when she smiles. It is as if the world stops turning for an instant, and if gravity could shift it would center on her and her alone because not one pair of eyes on that ship are able to look away. Hers is the beauty, the song, the smile that they cannot resist, the one thing they will risk even death to behold.

Once she smiles, they are unquestionably and irrevocably hers. And finally, she knows she has won.

Physical Description in writing:

Her hair is a blue-white colour, reminscient of the sea and in a windblown style. In her hair she wears strings of pearls and a comb made of coral and starfish. Her necklace is made of twisted seaweed and in the middle it holds a perlescent clamshell. It is also decorated with pink glass coral. At her feet is a human skull wearing a crown, as well as a goblet and some gold coins, treasures she has taken from the ships. The ornaments on her body display the idea that she decorates herself and is part of the ocean, but the treasures at her feet show the other, not so innocent side of her. If you want to change up the look a bit go ahead! The most important idea is the contrast in her character between the stolen human treasures vs her treasures of the ocean.

Also, if it is possible to edit the end of her tail to look more like a goldfish or butterfly koi tail (a little more billowy than the stock tail) (see refs) that would be super awesome! I couldn't get it to match the body when i tried doing it so in the interest of not mucking up my drawing I left it out. If edited tails are not allowed though thats totally fine!

Any/All Reference Pictures/Sketches:

crown (can be any style you like I dont care, this is just an idea)
skull
coral1 coral2 (the coral and starfish can be any colour you like i just chose random ones)
goldfish1 goldfish2 butterfly koi

Anything else: This is a super cool contest concept thanks so much for holding it!
