Marcus listened. He was pretty sure he failed out on that but hey, he never said he was good at it. Wash got a sad look. "Even when broken, people find uses for kids like that Wash, some more twisted than others. Hate to say it but being turning into a weapon... Isn't the worst fate for a broken kid. I'm not about to get a boner for beating them but we do what must be done. 'Does the suffering of one out weight the happiness and prosperity of a thousand others?'" He shifted uncomfortably in his seat. "Its not the best in my opinion, but it's just something that will just have to be done sometimes."

A bitter pill to swallow, Marcus sought lighter things, looking to Petra. "Petra, remind me next time I'm off island to get you something for that by the way." Dakota take downs, always fun.

The doctor simply smiled beatifically. It was obvious he never lost any sleep at all over such concerns.

"Well you can't believe we been overcoming evil with tickle fights this whole time," Harrison put in, annoyed. "Some mollycoddling's useful, same as intimidation. Whatever gets the job done."

So by picking children--Syd was still silent, her mind taking in what the "good doctor" had to say--they were easier to convert into weapons. But these children--Isra, who was so naive, the mermaid girl that had so many friends, the others--they didn't seem to fit the explanation of what Dr. H said would make a good weapon.

So why had they captured them? Even the undead girl that she'd netted, she was far too angry at hunters to make a good weapon. Was it just a matter of "well, they got dragged into this, whoops?"

Were they really going to send them back? That thought made her wonder. It would be easy enough to kill them... And considering how many had so easily spoken up about torture, and how Dr. H spoke so casually about it as well, wasn't that a very viable option here?

"Sir, will we really be sending them back with information about us?" she asked.

Rep had frozen up in posture and his smile had vanished the moment the doctor laid his hands on his shoulders, but he hadn't said a word. It was simply like all the smug confidence had been drained away by the contact and the following comments.

He didn't make any further smartass remarks, even as the subject turned to a topic he normally engaged with.

Ceres found herself stiffening more so at the gentle touch on her shoulder, and that she was even addressed in name. She tried to play it off as being startled only, but there was a distinct hint of fear in her eyes. She figeted even a little uncomfortably. Did she fear H? She would have been a fool not to.

Still though she listened to his speech, trying to absorb and look for the meanings behind his words. In her mind, basically the nitty gritty of what he was trying to say was: They had failed the test. Failed to use their resources to maximum usefulness, and even failed to try different methods. They had not thought about their actions before reacting. Maybe some even went in thinking they would fail. Not only this, but in essence he was saying they were taking out the fledglings before they had a chance to blossom into their true-to-nightmares selves. Not allowing them the chance to grow into their potentials, and instead exploiting their child-like weaknesses for their own gains.

In a way, sending them home, allowing the students to see them as they were, was brilliant. "... They will get false hope." She perked up, looking towards Syd as she asked about sending them home. "They might start stories, laugh at us now, but it's... like. Give a mouse a crumb, and they might just think they can handle the whole cookie. When essentially, the cookie, if eaten more than they can handle, has a chance of over filling the mouses stomach so when it finds a mouse trap waiting its more prone to set the trigger off." A round about way to get results, but none the less smart.

"I see," Syd said, relaxing ever so slightly. It was brilliant. It also made her feel somewhat better. She didn't hate Isra. She thought he was a bit... lacking mentally, but she didn't hate him. "And if they go back with tales of how we aren't so bad, it might make others think the same," she said. "Others that WILL be good potential weapons."

She frowned, thinking of the students she had seen in the fight, trying to remember if any of them had seemed like good potential partners. Two faces stood out in her mind--one of them was terrifying and she wrote him off as a potential partner straight off the bat. The horseman with the black and white hair and beautiful clothing was a no go. The purple haired reaper--

No, he probably wouldn't work, either. Had there been others that caught her eye? She sat there, thinking on it.

When the doctor's gaze fell her way, Rin sunk into her chair and promptly withdrew her elbows from the seats at her sides. She wrapped her arms around herself tightly, defensive and immediately averted her gaze.

She did nothing wrong, she has no idea why you're looking at her like that.

Apparently; a wall on the other side of the room was now far more amusing than the doctor.

Ami nodded silently as the Doctor talked. She was glad there was some intervention, because she really didn't want to listen to Dakota and Petra make d**k jokes when they were trying to get something done. Besides, crass humor wasn't to her tastes. She twitched a little when the Doctor said they weren't up to par. Well, it was nothing new.

"Besides, even if they're so cute and cuddly now, they'll mature into something far less friendly if we leave them be," she chipped in at the conversation. Ami probably wasn't much help in the "let's be friendly" department. She hated these things more than anything in the world. For her, they were bugs for squashing- in Yin's case, quite literally. If a few were lost to make a weapon, it was no skin off her back.

She looked at Dr. H and said, "My question is what are we going to do with them now that they've been ... proven somewhat useless?" Ami couldn't imagine just leaving them in there like that. Deus wasn't really a place where things went to waste- everything was used.

Deryk's blood practically ran cold as he knew H was hovering behind him. His breathing had slowed and well, his eyes were fixated downwards. He didn't relax until he heard the little exchange between Wash and the Doctor. The trainee had to admire the other a bit for having the courage to say what he was too scared to bring up.

Oh this was definitely not her area. It was like was back at university and she'd accidentally stumbled into the wrong classroom or something, but the professor had started lecturing and she couldn't escape. And what was worse, some of these trainees seemed sympathetic to the creatures she so passionately despised. The talk of sending them home especially got under her skin, and Petra found herself gritting her teeth, muscles wound tight. That meant Amrita was free to go too.

"They're monsters, did you forget why we're here?" she asked Wash, the question mostly rhetorical. Falling quiet again, she listened to Ceres' logic with begrudging understanding. The logic was sound. But just because it was sound didn't mean she was any happier about it.

Flicking her attention to Marcus, Petra blinked slowly as she listened to his light-hearted retort. "Robert's appetite is fine, thank you Marcus."

Aaand there went her sense of humor.

"We very rarely act with singular purpose, you know, our numbers and rather limited life spans don't allow for such." The doctor waved his hand in the direction of the containment room, "Cael has own agenda in this. Likely he's on Daddy's Business, which is rather adorable. Besides that, not all of our guests may be wholly unsuited to transformation. You, of course, won't have a second chance to make a good first impression." Dark blue, nearly black, eyes landed on Rin once more, and his amusement at her behavior was palpable. "But do keep in mind what I've said, hm?"

Marcus couldn't suppress the snort muffled laugh. "Petra, was referring to your take down of Dakota." He tried to muffle his laugh with a cough. "Sorry sir. Um anyway." He rubbed the back of his head. "I kind of think of it like cogs in a machine? Each one does their own thing, but they more or less work together for a certain function. Only difference is that unlike a machine we adapt to the situation. When dealing with possible... subjects we have to adapt and work together if just for a short time. Maybe not to the same goals per say, but just long enough to get what we need."

He suddenly found walls very interesting. "And then we can go back to playing in our own sandboxes..." That part was muttered.

Right, right, Rin hears you. Though her gaze was still firmly planted on that incredibly amusing wall so continued looks went mostly unnoticed.

Shhh... shhh... pretend he's not there and he might lose interest.

Exactly like playing possum.
