its funny but the highest you can go in Capoeira is white! whee hehe we dont have belts but cords or a corda! im the highest among the girls with a green and yellow corda (duas voltas) but theres one guy with a full yellow corda and my mestre (what we call our sensei ^^) is blue and white corda which is 2nd to the white corda!
Heres our ranking system for those who are curious ^^
Beginner - Orange Cord or Nne 1st Stage - Green Cord - Initiation 2rd Stage - Green Cord - (duas voltas) 3rd Stage - Green/Yellow Cord - Intermediate 4th Stage - Green/Yellow Cord - (duas voltas) 5th Stage - Yellow Cord - 1st level of Instructor 6th Stage - Yellow/blue Cord - Instructor 7th Stage - Blue/Green - Professor Estagiario 8th Stage - Blue Cord - Professor 9th Stage - Green/Yellow/Blue Cord - Contra Mestre 10th Stage - White/Green Cord - 1st level of Mestre 11th Stage - White/Yellow Cord - 2nd level of Mestre 12th Stage - White/Blue Cord - 3rd level of Mestre 13th Stage - White Cord - Grand Mestre

I'm my style, if you stick with it, you get on of those sweet Tokido silk black belts. We usually give one to you at san dan (3rd dregee). The thing with those belts is that if you really wear that thing out it comes apart leaving you with a white belt. Of course it takes decades of intense training to wear those things out. So, we like to say that our highest belt is a white belt. If you wouldn't mind Halo, please post some on the MA resource thread. I love more info on capoiera, and I know I'm not the only one.

This depends entirely on the school, but... It varies from 1st dan to 5th. XD
Yes, dan. Yes, student. In my aikido and judo class it's 1st. In my kendo class it's 5th. In my iaido class I think it's second or third... Bujinkan class, I don't know. Somewhere around 6th dan... But then, ninjutsu has an awkward graduation system... And my kung fu teacher refuses to give in to the American trend of belts.
So that's that. ^-^
