Menolly had to think, there was a thing she did not like, animal and pae alike. A favorite was hard to come up with, but she did, "I think cats followed closely by doggies. I like them both because not only are they warm and fuzzy but they are also friendly and love to be near pae and people.' She wondered what to ask, to get to know Wolfwood better and hopefully start a conversation.

'Do you have a favorite song?' The song she loved didn't have any words, so maybe that was not the best question. Perhaps she should just ask him to ask her one? She would wait and see. With his help, she hadn't so much as stumbled once.

"Hmm, I like cat's well enough. They're independent so you don't have to worry about them and they know just when you need to cuddle and they come over and crawl onto your lap." Wolfwood smiled. He didn't have a favorite animal but he did have experience with them. "No, I don't have a favorite song," he answered without any hesitation this time. "As long as it has a good beat, I'll listen to it. Know what I mean?"

Menolly nodded, beaming, it was fun that he liked the same animal that she did. "Yes, I know what you mean. I remember beats and the melody of my favorte songs, but I do not pay attention to the words or name." That and she normaly made up her own songs. It was really fun to just put pitches together and get a song. She found that it was the most amusing thing.

Catching movement in the trees, she looked up and fluttered into the air, only high enough so that was the same hight as Wolfwood as she tried to get a closer look at the red bird, "ooo!" The bird took off and she landed again, not the least bit bumbed, she still had Wolfwood to hold on to so all was well. She did give a backward glance at the bird as it disappeared.

Looking back to Wolfwood she asks, "Do you live at the lake?" Again her head was slightly tilted as she awaited an answer.

Wolfwood looked over at Menolly then followed her gaze to the bird, quirking his left eyebrow. When she floated back down to the ground, he smiled at her then went back to making sure she didn't stumble as they walked. "Well, sort of. I live near the lake in a nice little treehouse. Why do you ask, Menolly?"

Menolly hummed a bit to herself as they walked. Listening to his answer with open ears, she replies, "I just wondered." She nearly added the word 'silly' but she remembered her father disaporving of saying that to others. Instade she laughed lightly and asked, "Did you build the treehouse?" That was another thing she did not understand, were houses just there or did you have to make one?

"Not exactly. You see, the tree I chose was already pretty much hollowed out all the way through so all I did was scrape out some of the inside to make the walls smooth and clear it of debris. The trunk is wide enough for me to fly up through it to get to the high branches so I didn't need to add stairs or anything. It's actually a very simple home but I like it." Wolfwood smiled brightly at Menolly, his tail flicking from side to side. "Oh, we should be getting close to the lake now."

Menolly smiled back at Wolfwood. She liked his smile. She could imagine the home he described and responded with a laughing tone, "Like an elevator!" It sounded really neat. She wondered how the tree would survive or with stand time and shocks if it were hollowed out; however, she believed Wolfwood knew what he was doing.

The flickering of his tail caught her attention a moment. She thought it was so cool that he had a tail, and those neat wings. Soon enough, her attentions were else where. The lake is coming up? "Your house sounds really neat. The lake? Wow, we'll see it soon?" She bounced a bit in place in excitement. She wanted to see this place a lot. A giggle started to erupt softly from the teenage angel, her hair was bouncing against her back and it tickled!

"Come to think of it, yeah, I suppose it is a lot like an elevator," Wolfwood commented thoughtfully, thinking of his home. The 'walls' were thick and held in the heat during the winter and, he imagined, would probably keep it cool in the warmer months. Once he had worried about the integrity of its structure but his doubts had been put to rest. His home was still a living tree and its roots went deep. Hecould have gone on thinking of his home but he was brought out of his reverie by the female's questions. "Yep, we'll see the lake soon. It shouldn't be too far now.." And Wolfwood was right. Just a few minutes later, he and Menolly pushed through some some undergrowth and found themselves on the lakeshore.

Menolly listened to Wolfwood, happy her idea was taken seriously even though she had said it playfully. She wondered what was on his mind, but didn't ask, there were lovely flowers to take her attention from bothering her guide.

As he spoke of being close to the lake again, she looked forward. Like waiting for a big gift to be opened. As the brush had pushed away, the gift opened and she was silent. Looking at his large lake, her expression was one of complete wonder and awe.

The lake was so magnificent, it took her a good while to respond, "Oh wow! Its so big and blue." The last one might have been overstating the obvious but this was the first time she had ever seen it and it was so much better then her mental imagine.

Wolfwood chuckled good-naturedly at Menolly's reaction to the lake. Then he squeezed her hand once and started down the beach, moving toward the water. "My sister Ros likes to wade through the shallows and look for rocks. You wouldn't believe the size of her collection." He turned his head and grinned at the younger female then refocused on where he was going.

Menolly smile brightly and followed right along side Wolfwood, amusing herself with matching his foot falls such as if he steps on his left foot, hers goes down too. "Rocks are so neat!" They were and she knew that they could be very lovely. "I saw a very pretty green one before."

Rocks must come in all kinds of colors, she deduces. Pae sure seemed to and if they did, that meant everything should. Watching the water as they approached she wondered what its temperature was. Water was always fun to play in.

"We can look for some if you'd like to. The water is probably a bit cold right now, though, so we'll stick to the beach, ok?" Wolfwood asked, glancing over at Menolly. "I'm sure we'll find just as many pretty rocks here in the dry sand as we would have in the wet lake bottom."

She did not want to go into the water anymore, because Wolfwood did not want to go. "I am positive you are right, there may even be shells!" In truth, she did not mind doing anything so long as Wolfwood wanted to do what ever it was. Menolly had only four true wants, or needs as they were. Other wise, she went with whatever that person wanted to do.

"I'm going to have to let go of your hand so we can dig for stones and shells, though. You're gonna be ok, right?" Wolfwood asked, wanting to make sure she would be able to handle the lack of contact.

Menolly hesitated to answer, she had never agreed to loosing contact, except when her father told her she had to and when there was someone else to cling to. Struggling to grasp and agree with the idea. She nodded her head, and does smile, smiles were always easy and always true when she was holding onto someone. "I'll be okay for a little while." To prove her point, she slowly let go of Wolfwood's hand, one finger at a time.

A glint of something in the sand helped the case because she had something to catch her attention and take it off of letting someone go.
