Yekarask danced away from Taith's swipe, proud of his agility, but then saw another danger coming. Big Brown. Yekarask screamed a challenge at Gneisth and tried to duck and roll away from his attack, but only managed in evading part of the blow. It still stung, tearing open his hide.

Slotath recognized what Stromath was doing, but he followed, in complete agreement with the Bronze. No one else should risk being hurt by this fight.

We do not answer to you, Benden, but we will tell you anyway. We do this for Pern. For the people. It does not bring us joy to fight you or our allies, but we cannot allow you to come here and interfere.

With hard strokes of his wings, Slotath tried to attack the Bronze, aiming for whatever part of him he could reach.

[Stromath- Attacking Slotath in the Air]

[For Pern?!] Stromath replied back in disbelief, unable to avoid his tail being swiped. [For the people? Look around you, you fool! This uprising does not help the people. It has only brought about needless bloodshed. The protectors of Pern are being turned against, and you yourself are only enabling the chaos.] The bronze slashed back at the other with his claws, eyes whirling a furious red. Mad, they had all gone mad.

K'en found himself to be in a bit of an unexpected tight spot. They had been ordered to stay on their dragons for safety, but... when fighting another dragonrider pair in the air, was where he was really any safer than on the ground? ... Well, yes, it was, but still. This was ridiculous. None of them should be fighting at all. Stromath, please be careful. Can you talk them out of attacking?

[They do not see sense, Mine,] he answered regretfully. [I'm doing what I can.]

[Gneisth, Landing & Attacking Yekarask]

While he was glad, in a way, to see the wher distracted from his initial green dragon target, Gneisth was concerned for Taith nonetheless, beset by other humans. Humans they could do nothing about...until the whers were mostly disabled. Perhaps if he landed as well, he would present a tempting target. He had more endurance than Taith, as well as being generally bigger. Getting the agile green back into the air might be best for all of them, especially Stromath. Maybe Taith could successfully attack where the lack of agility on all the larger male dragon's parts would cause them to fail.

Regardless, the mission remained the same. If you would challenge me, then fight me, Gneisth advised Yekarask, rumbling a return challenge of his own as he threw out his forefoot like a blunt weapon towards the wher.

Defending from Gneisth

The Brown tried to attack him again and Yekarask tried to avoid some of the hit. He also tried to turn himself to face the Brown, who was attacking him more than the Green, who seemed to do nothing against him. The Brown was the threat here, clearly.

"Yekarask! Ignore the other dragons!"

Attack the Green! Yekara ordered in his mind, and Yekarask wavered for a moment. He was supposed to do as his handler said. But then the Brown challenged him, and Yekarask's indecision left him.

The Brown's strategy worked. Yekarask's attention was on him now, and the wher hissed and barreled straight at the Brown, ignoring his handler's express command.

Forton
Attacking Gneisth

Forton heard Yekara having trouble with the Green and turned to look behind him at her. He hesitated a moment, then looked back at Fortosk. What good was he going to be against dragons still sort of in the air. Perhaps he would have better luck with pulling the Green's rider off of her back or maybe... distracting the Brown as Yekara was trying to do with the Green.

"Get the Bronze!" he ordered Fortosk before he ran toward Gneisth and tried to throw himself at the Brown's side, get his attention off of the wher.

Timill
Attacking Taith

Now that they had lost the wher, their only real failsafe against the dragons, Timill beat against her all the harder, wanting to override whatever commands her rider was doubtlessly going to give her about attacking them or their whers. Timill didn't want to take Timisk away from the Bronze yet, or he knew that Fortosk would be done for. The smallest of Whers versus the second largest of dragons? Not really a fair contest.

Slotath

Bloodshed, but not needless. The wherhandlers are not wrong, though their pursuit of their goals is not the right way. However, we have agreed to help, and help we will. Perhaps their new system will function more admirably than our own has in recent Turns.

Slotath swept in at Stromath again, trying to rake his claws along the Bronze's wings as he passed. It was not safe for either of their riders in the air, not if one dragon fell, but Slotath would not land to let T'rut off and risk Stromath getting in a second attack until he absolutely had to.

We are not the only things capable of protecting Pern. To think so would be arrogant.
