"Of course," Malodore said, surprised; the question was not what it had been expecting, so it tentatively extended its empathy, tensing a little bit as it felt Calder's resignation and worry. "You are... expecting trouble, when you return?" The question was tentative, but it had some vague idea of wanting to be there for the kelpie, even as he had been there for it.

Calder glanced from picking the flowers, avoiding Malodore's gaze for the last few minutes as he thought, but glanced back down just as quickly. "Possibly." He lied, knowing full well there were major consequences to his decision.
Of course Malodore had a heap of it's own problems and worries, and had stated it was pretty much close to crumbling. This was no time for Calder to dump additional worries on it. "But nothing I can't handle. It's all very minor. I should be back in no time at all." He lied, rising up and continuing to not look at the doctor as he gestured. "I have everything I need. Let's head back."

"Ah - well, buona fortuna, my friend." It opened its beak in what it hoped was a reassuring smile. It was clear there was more going on than what Calder was saying, but it was just as clear that the kelpie didn't want to discuss it. It wouldn't press the point. "And the last things you gathered, what are they?"

"Healing. Minor cuts. You dry the flowers and cut up the stems. Then you make a tea. You don't eat any part of it though. We make a lot of our medicine into tea. We need to take things in with water." Calder pointed out in a sort of uninvested monotone, elsewhere in thought.
They stopped at the edge of the woods, and the kelpie glanced to his friend. "I still have a few errands to do. It was nice talking to you, Mal. And......you know. If I'm not around..." Or never returned. "....you have many friends who can help you. I love hearing from you and helping, but if you desperately need to talk to someone and can't find me, I hope you talk to others. Talking is a good medicine too, and anyone can administer it." Not that he practiced what he preached just now.

Malodore bobbed its head. "Of course - thank you for the reminder, my friend. I am most fortunate, truly... you will drop the key off for me? I will take good care of your little ones while you are away. Perhaps when you return, I can observe some of the preparation of your herbal medicines?"

Calder gave a smile at the request. "Yeah. I'll probably be using a lot of them." It's why he picked them after all. The healing herbs would be the most used.
"I'll leave the key at your place sometime today. I'll also call you when I prepare those herbs." He couldn't say 'if' to it. "Thank you for this talk, and....for being a good friend. I appreciate it that you come to me when you need to talk. I just want to let you know, I value out friendship. I always will." He lightly touched the Plague Doctor's sleeve, wanting to say something more, but kept his mouth shut and gave a simple nod.
With that, he returned his hand to his basket and turned, heading back to the monster dorms.
