This Aleck was definitely a different beast to the one that he'd been in the last two fights with. He'd always been jealous of the other weyrbrat for having a father that cared about him, but he supposed that kind of close connection made you vulnerable too. Was it worth it?...
Not the time to be asking deep questions like that.

His eye! Insk shrieked and jerked his head back; the human's tiny little claws had damaged his eye! He could still see through it, but not well. Oh the human would pay!
It was at that point that Insk became aware that his Master was in trouble. A lot of trouble. He had to finish this fast! Snarling vicious he tried to knock his prey down, planning to gut it once it was on the ground.

The great brute pushed him down with ease. All he could do as his head smacked against the ground was try to roll out of the way of whatever killing blow it had planned. The talons ripped his back open and he cried out in pain again as the world started to go dim.

The impact of his head against the wall made him see stars. Knowing that the other man was still there with the whip he cringed his head down and raised and arm to try to ward off the blow.

He was down; that was all an obstacle needed to be. Aleck slung the man's head aside and turned his attention to the bed, giving it a violent, full-body shove followed by a harder one when he heard Bereck's cry. MovemoveMOVE!

[Carltis: Lending whip to Aleck]
When he heard the man's pained cry from the other side of the door, Carltis had a sudden moment of clarity. Aleck was going to charge headlong at the wher on the other side of the door, because that would give him the best chance of saving his father. It was probably wise to give him a better option.
As the bed moved out from in front of the door he grabbed Aleck by the wrist and pressed his whip into his hand and yanked the door open.

His Master was hurt, and now people were bursting in on him? Insk was not a happy wher, but he did not intend to be denied his kill. Keeping his focus on the door and the men behind it he tried to sink his teeth into his prey and drag it backwards. He managed the catching hold of part, but his fangs only caught on one of the ripped shreds of Bereck's jacket.

There was a lot of noise going on, but he was now having trouble working out what the noise was.
He was moving, being pulled across the floor.
He seemed to be leaving a trail of blood behind.
Humm.
That was unfortunate.

Another time he would have said 'Oh hey, thanks.' Right now there was just a flash of irritation leveled at Carltis for grabbing him that cleared with comprehension when he felt the whip in his hand. Then he was through the door.
If his anger had been fading, the sight waiting for him was more than fuel enough to make it blaze up again. "Hey!" he barked, lashing the weapon at Insk's face. Blind it!
Aleck had nothing against whers. But this one needed to die.

The scene on the other side of the door was not pretty.
Trying very hard not to see the dead girl with no throat, or to wonder whether or not the healer was already dead too Carltis followed Aleck's lead. Go for the face; it had teeth in it, but those seemed to be occupied at the moment so he probably wouldn't lose a foot. He kicked at it, but the beast jerked its head aside to evade his blow leaving him reeling off balance.

One of the new humans had a whip. He did not like whips. He especially did not like this once, as it had just struck him across the face and left a nasty welt. he snapped at the whip-man. Keeping his attention focused on the whip he tried to get a better grasp on his meal.
This time he managed to sink his fangs into the human's thigh, and after giving it a shake he tossed it aside and snarled again at the whip man. <Mine!>

[Bereck: Falling unconscious]
When the wher's teeth sank into his leg Bereck gave another weak cry of pain. He was vaguely aware of being lifted and jolted around, and then of hitting the ground but then everything... everything got very hard to... to....
The healers' eyes closed, and he went limp as he slipped into unconsciousness.

A look of horror crossed Aleck's face then. "NO!" Not yours, not ever yours! He struck again at the ugly brown head, threatening to pull his shoulder with the force. The ever-present analyst behind his eyes suddenly wasn't, and there was no little voice to remark 'So this is what rage feels like.' It just was.
Briefly, he remembered Carltis. "Get him out of here!"
He would kill this thing!

s**t.
Carltis closed his eyes briefly as the healer hit the ground; mostly he knew him as a stick in the mud pain in his arse, but nobody deserved that, and the look on Aleck's face and the desperate note in his voice was awful.
Not about to argue with a sensible idea he hurried over to the slumped healer and picked him up carefully. Was he breathing? Was there a pulse? He wasn't sure just yet but there was a hell of a lot of blood. Hastening out of the room he laid the red-haired man carefully down on a bed and then cast around for bandages, or at least something he could use as bandages. Quickly settling on the sheet of a nearby bed he ripped it off the mattress and started to tear it into rough strips.
The wherhandler was still on the floor nearby looking very groggy, and Carltis made a mental note to kick him really hard once he'd done whatever he could for Aleck's father.
