~*Radagon Mimuria*~

Once Kuro was done passing out the books to everyone, Radagon popped open the book on rope tying so that he could begin learning how to tie the rope properly. The first thing he read from the book that if a rope was too stiff, or dry, that the rope would become too difficult to even tie a knot, and even if someone could make a knot, it was more than likely that the knot would come undone. Grabbing the rope, Radagon felt that it wasn't really dry, so the knots shouldn't be difficult to make. Radagon then continued to read more about knot making, and started on one of the first knots he could find. It talked about a bowline knot, and that it was a sturdy knot, making it one of the safer knots to use, as it was a fixed loop. If correctly made, this knot could not grow or shrink, despite the amount of pressure used. To Radagon, this seemed to be the most useful knot, as not only could it be used to secure someone's hands and legs, but also to save people in trouble. But, at the end of the chapter, Radagon read that this knot had a tendency to just come undone over time, so it was like a fifty-fifty chance when using this knot. Seeing how this was a good knot to use, Radagon wanted to practice with this knot. So, setting his book down with it still open, Radagon grabbed his rope and began trying to tie it into a bowline.

Mai let out a deep breaths as sprinted down one of the hallway heading to her class, she had slept in this morning of all mornings, her first day at the academy and she slept in. Once she had noticed that she was late, not she was going to be late, but was late, she took off full sprint from the dorm she had been sent too by her parents, it would have been a huge hassle dealing with getting into the village from the family home out in the country side, if she wasn't able to stay somewhere in town.

Mai slowed her pace a little as she got nearer the classroom, and allowed herself to catch her breath, it hadn't taken long to get there, but she felt as if she was so late that she had missed everything important, she stared at the door of the classroom for a moment before, swallowing her shame and opening the door, she had hope she would be able to slip into the class unnoticed. But that didn't seem like it was going to happen as she opened the door, only to be greeted with what looked to be the teacher looking at her, folded arms, tapping his foot, with that look that cut though those on the other end of it, the clear signs on his face. So why ARE you late?. She acted like a deer for a moment stunned at the sight.

Before she could even really think about what to say, the words were already escaping her lips, her voice was meek. "Sorry, I slept in, I was up reading the introduction manual, and nervous about today". She said still a little in shock.

As the supplies for the first lesson were handed out Takuya busied himself by glancing around the classroom. The rest of the introductions had been about as uneventful as he expected. The last one to go, seemed eager to talk to the girl Miyuki in front. So many in this class aspired to be Medic-nin. He scowled slightly, knowing that the type of medicine most of them would practice would be just the healing arts. He doubted that anyone in the class save for the girl would take the initiative to explore possible groundbreaking techniques. Though he was slightly intrigued that the boy who had emphasized his enthusiasm to travel was an Inuzuka. Typically children from that clan had more of a propensity for more combat oriented ninja arts.

Once the supplies were passed out he picked up the rope, rolling it in between his thumb and index finger before setting it down and opening up the book. Eager to get to the more interesting lessons he sighed, Takuya knew a strong foundation was necessary to build up ones skills later on, but the start was always the worst part. Turning his gaze downwards he began to read. The text was all fairly straightforward, and was even accompanied by images to help demonstrate the different techniques. However, being impatient by nature he decided to wing it and attempt to just go ahead and tie the knots.

Though Radagon had read the book, for the life of him, he couldn't remember what to do while he held the rope in his hands. It was like he had instantly forgotten everything he had just read in order to tie this knot. Radagon stared at the rope and had no idea how to begin reading the book. He already had the rope in his hands, and the book was closed on his desk. Grabbing the book now would make him seem weak, so he was just gonna have to wing it. But, just the thought of screwing up made him feel sick. He placed the rope back down on the desk and just stared at it. He folded his arms to do while he did it, in an attempt to make it seem like he was trying to choose which knot he actually wanted to do. But, as he stared at the rope, it felt like a great weight was crushing him and that he still had no clue what to do. He wanted to curse that book and its strange ways of knot tying. Now he had to make a knot without any knowledge of remembering on how to tie a knot. In such a way that this was completly annoying him, Radagon didn't have a choice. He had to make a knot before the lesson could continue. So, grabbing the rope one more time, Radagon began his attempt to tie the knot, asking the great rope gods to bless him.

What Takuya wound up with looked more like a horribly mangled caterpillar than an actual knot, glancing back over to the images in the book he decided that he had definitely done something wrong. It was surprising, just how complicated a simple knot could be. Unwinding the rope he straightened it back out, reflecting on what he could have possibly done wrong last time.

Carefully, Takuya attempted a second time to tie the knot. Fingers worked at bending and looping the rope, wrapping it around his fingers and pulling it through loops. He could only hope that maybe a little more patience would assist him, though perhaps actually reading the material might help. Deciding that he could do it on his own he continued to work the rope, backtracking slightly if he felt he was doing something wrong before reworking everything.

Taking a quick glance around he noted that one of the students like him had already started to work with the rope as well, and unlike him was successful at his first attempt. Gritting his teeth together he turned his attention back to the rope in his hands, tugging and pulling the rope with a little more vigor than necessary.

Scanning the pages of the book, Kuro went through looking for knots that would be most difficult to get out of due to them being used for holding loads or securing objects to structures. There were a few knots that stood out in their descriptions. One was the constrictor knot which was used to hold loose loads together, and sometimes being impossible to untie once secure. Next was a truckers hitch which was used to hold loads to carts and stuff like that. Third and last one was the Buntline Hitch, whitch is used to tie objects with any form of opening to the end of the rope. These were the three that he wanted to learn at the moment, so with that in mind he scanned the pages of the first knot. 'Ok... so loop the rope around the object one and a half times, then slide the working end of the rope under both lines and pull tightly. Seems simple enough...' Flipping through some pages, Kuro went onto the next knot he wanted to learn about. 'Hm... firstly make a slip knot... wait... what is a slip knot? Gah...' with that, Kuro turned some pages back and quickly studied the slip knot, then went back to the truckers hitch. 'Make a loop, then slide another loop inside that loop. Make a loop around your object and then slide the end of the rope through the slip knot. Pull tight, and then create a secure knot at the end to keep tight. Geez, that one's not as easy as the first one...' He wasn't sure if he actually got that understood but he would find out soon enough. First though he went to the last pages that he wanted to read. Kuro just read the little blurb on the knot and thought for a second, and then let out a light sigh yet again as the wording was more confusing then the diagram. Well, his reading was done for the moment. How much he understood would remain a mystery for now until he tried.

Perhaps he used a little TOO much enthusiasm. With a snap the rope in his fingers broke in half. Getting up he tossed the useless twine into the trashcan before picking up a new piece. His teeth were clenched together annoyed at the damn piece of rope in his hands. Exhaling he took a deep breath before sitting back down, giving the new piece of rope a death glare with his exposed eye.

Holding the rope in his hands he stared at it, as if somehow his glares would make the rope tie itself. Taking a deep breath once more he shut his eye trying to push off the annoyance and aggravation. Takuya if anything, was certainly short tempered and it seemed the more aggravated he got with the damn rope the worse he would do. He needed to focus.

Turning his gaze to stare at the images in the book he once again started to work, twisting and looping the twine in his hands hoping it would obey. He would force it to bend to his will. Tugging he looped the rope around, it was certainly different than tying ones shoes, there was an intricacy there he didn’t expect to encounter. No matter what he would defeat this damn rope.

Understanding Simple Book :: PC Formula: 50 + [25(10) - 0]/10 :: 75% Success

Loric reached out and grabbed a hold of the text book that was handed to him. The subject was rope tying, something that he never knew warranted an entire text book. As far as he had always know, tying knots was a simple task. All one needed to do was cross a few strings and be done with it. Flipping open the book Loric skimmed the lines of the page trying to grasp the core concept of the information. From what he could tell the book not only touched on the subject of tying simple knots for everyday use, but it also extended onto their practical use for a Shinobi. It explained the pros and cons of using the various types of knots on missions as well as general method of quickly tying and untying each specific type of knot. It all seemed rather boring, but none the less he was determined to excel with his studies. It was after all his strong suit. If he couldn't even do well with book learning he had absolutely no chance of becoming a good shinobi. After about five minutes of focused reading, Loric slammed the book shut and slid it to the side of his desk. He hadn't read the entire book but he figured that tying a knott couldn't be all that difficult.

Yoshinaga turned a sharp eye to the running on comer, a brow raising questioningly at the young girl. "Another tardy, tut tut tut." He muttered audibly before waiting for the girl to explain herself. Shifting his jaw irritably, he let his eyes grace the three late students and shifted to the side to let the girl go inside the classrom, "Go in." His tone was icy and his glare just as frozen as he watched the girl pass before continuing to look at the first two and waited for their response.

Placing the book down, Kuro then preceded to pick up the rope and think of what he wanted to do first. He figured that he'd work on the simplest knot before getting anything else done. This would be the constrictor knot, but he'd need something to tie up first. Reaching down to his pack, he gathered a bunch of blank scrolls and placed them on the desk. Standing them up on their ends, Kuro wrapped the rope around the scrolls. Turning back to the book, he looked at the image of the knot and thought for a second. Grabbing the end of the rope, he placed the end under the cross section of the looped rope. Before pulling tightly though he wanted to make sure that he was doing it as good as he could. Taking a second glance at the image, he noticed that one of the ends of the rope wasn't where it needed to be. Lifting the beginning of the rope, Kuro slid the rope out from under itself and then then pulled the loop out from under itself, then put the end of the rope under the cross section that the loop created. Pulling the rope tight, Kuro looked at the knot and waited a moment before lifting the bundle up by one of the ends of the rope while hoping that it wouldn't unravel itself.

Attempting Knot :: PC Formula: 50 + 25 (Step 1) + [(5 + 15) - 10]/10 :: 76% Success

Grabbing a hold on the rope, Loric decided that he would start with the constricter knot. It was one used in practice for tying together groups of objects, however it was also useful for creating leg restrictions in that when ever the target would try and move, the rope would simply tighten thus limiting mobility while providing an encroaching source of pain as punishment for trying to escape. The thought alone made Loric grimace, the way he saw it if someone was already tied up then what need would there be to cause them extra discomfort? The entire point of binding them in the first place was simply to not allow them to move or escape, adding pain into the equation just seemed unnecessary. Reaching into his side pouch yet again, the brown haired boy pulled out a hand full of red colored pencils and began the process of tying the knot around them. If successful then Loric would be able to hold all five of the pencils off the ground by simply holding on to one end of the rope. He began by starting on the front side of the stack of pencils. He then looped the rope around once before crossing over the front again. He then sat the group down on the desk and gently began to tug on both ends of the rope, hoping to tighten the knot enough that at least the pencils would be secure so that he could proceed with finishing the rest of the knot.

Looking at the bundle, Kuro could see that the group of scrolls was staying together. The knot was holding, so he started to shake the rope to see if the knot would continue to hold. Nothing happened, which was good enough for him. Placing the group of scrolls down on the desk, Kuro went to try and untie the knot. There was a problem though... the shaking of the rope ended up making the constrictor knot tighten up even more. Instead of tying to untie the rope like this right now though, what he did was pull out the middle scroll and then the bundle be came loose, making the knot very easy to undo. With this knot done, he thought that it'd be best to re-do what he did just to make sure that it wasn't just luck and that he actually understood it. Again the scrolls were stood up on their ends to give him something to tie up that wasn't another person. Looping the rope around the scrolls, Kuro crossed the ends of the rope and then let one end of the rope wrap behind the scrolls a second time, and then used that end of go underneath the cross section of the material. With the knot basically done, he just pulled the two ends in opposite directions to tighten the knot up and then lifted the bundle up to see if it undo or it would stay together again.

Understanding textbook Material :: PC Formula: 50 + [15(10) - 0]/10 :: 65% -- Success

Miyuki patiently waited as the materials needed for the lesson were being passed out. Radagon quickly passed out the rope and returned to his seat. The young girl placed the rope to the side of her desk out of the way. Once Kuro handed her the textbook, she immediately began immersing herself into the materials. She was pleasantly surprised by the structure of the textbook. It had very descriptive directions, as well as pictorial references.

With this book as a reference, she was confident that the lesson would progress in her favor. While she wasn’t overly excited about the nature of their first lesson, she was content with how quickly she was progressing with the knowledge. The young girl used her pointer finger to guide herself through the reading material. Once finished, she slowly turned the page allowing her gaze to linger on the instructional picture references for just a little while longer. It took her approximately fifteen to thirty minutes to make her way through the entirety of the book.

‘I think I can do this,’ Miyuki smiled brightly while taking a look around the class to see how everyone else was progressing. It seemed that her neighbor Loric was the only one in the classroom not completely struggling with this task. If the young girl had any problems, she decided that asking him for assistance would be her best bet.

Sanyo gave a nod in thanks as she retrieved the items for today's lessons. Rope tying, She wasn't the most dexterous but maybe this book could give her enough tips and tricks to get around the issue. Opening the book her vision was flooded with images to accompany the words written within, a sort of step by step guide for various knots. Her face went in close to the book as if that would help her bring the information into her brain any better. ‘hm so that’s an easy enough one to do, I wonder if it’s easy to get out of?’ she thought to herself remembering this was being done for the goal of escaping the same kind of knots and ropes later. ‘what if it isn’t ropes!?’ her imagination went into overdrive on possible methods of capturing and holding someone hostage for any various reason. She wanted to roll about on the floor in frustration but kept the idea in her head as she put her attention back into the book for now.

She peered up at the other students who either read faster than she did or jumped right into the practical portion of the lesson, there were certainly mixed results with the class as some succeeded in making the ropes into knots and other students seemed to be playing with a wet noodle as their ropes just flopped about between their fingers repeatedly. Looking back to the book she focused and finished reading. Not sure if she had retained the right info from the pages she opted to give it a try regardless.

Attempting Knot :: PC Formula: 50 + 25 (Step 1) + [(5 + 15) - 10]/10 :: 76% Fail

Loric looked down at the knot with a hardened face. He was sure that he had followed the instructions and yet his knot looked nothing like that of the one displayed in the text book image. Sighing heavily, Loric reached out and grabbed the loose end of the knot and slowly began to raise it up from the desk. From the look of it he could already predict what was going to happen next. Sure enough, the knot began untangled instantly, causing the pencils to crash down onto the floor. Cursing under his breath, Loric reluctantly pulled himself out of his seat and began picking them up one by one. As he sprawled around on the floor looking for the pencils that he had dropped, Loric wondered why this task was so difficult. All around him he could hear voices of frustration as people tried, and painfully failed to tie any of the knots found in the text book. It seemed that he, just like everyone else, had under estimated the true difficulty of the task at hand. After a few moments of searching, Loric finally stumbled upon the last pencil which had precariously rolled itself directly under Miyuki's desk. Glancing up for a brief moment, Loric gulped before making a hasty grab for it, hoping that she wouldn't notice this strange invasion of privacy. As he rapidly hopped to his feet, he forced himself to speak to her. If she had saw him lurking around on the floor under her seat, it would at least look better if he had the decency to try and play it off as a joke. "Hehe,..I was just uuuhhh....Hey! Do you wanna maybe..work together on this one?" Loric's eyes dipped for an instant before snapping back into a more proper view, "I mean uh.. You dont have to that is, It's just that this assignment seems pretty difficult...That is not to say that you couldn't do it on your own though! I just mean that we could work together..that is..If you wanted to." He asked awkwardly.
