(Tag Mercy)

Kleos sighed and rubbed at the scar tissue on her face, a habit she had now when worried or distracted. "Yes," she agreed hesitantly, "you're right of course, it is all very far fetched... and we shall persevere, whatever the outcome of this. I am glad I have found you to watch it with as well, my friend." Power, prestige, and command; it was what she had always wanted and what came with being a wingleader. It did set her apart from a lot of other people though, but Mercy had rank of her own and thanks to being Pern's only white rider didn't quite fit into the normal scheme of wings and so on in any case.

"I hope they begin soon," the crimson rider murmured, "I can scarcely stand this waiting!"

==================

(Tag Cetalese)

Cinder skimmed and swooped, his eyes huge and brilliant blue. This, this was the most amazing thing that he had ever seen! So many people of all kinds and he loved people! He didn't like strangers all over him, but he did love to watch them. Right now though he had a job, and was trying hard to remember that. By lucky chance he spotted the letter woman before long and swooped down to hover in front of her. "Skreee!" he declared happily before zooming back up above the crowd and calling out to his person.

At the alert from his firelizard F'itz smiled slightly and nodded to himself, setting off through the throng towards the little black dot up in the air. People. So many people. He didn't like big loud crowds like this very much at the best of times, but this was hardly something he could miss.

Eventually he spotted Cetalese with his own eyes and raised a hand to her in greeting. "Greetings rider," he said once he was within earshot (quite close given the noise of the crowd) and threw a salute. "I'm glad to find you; I was beginning to think you might not have come."

==================

(Tag Sasar)

Harmony gave a little chuckle and rested her weight on one hip, curling her arms and cloak around her body. "Must come as quite a shock to them! And yes, you're right, I really hope it works out after all this or they'll be more unbearable than ever. Anyone would think they owned this world from the way they talk. That junior gold rider of ours for example; arrogance and entitlement embodied! You don't see any wherhandler acting like that just because of what they happened to bond to." She felt safe saying things like that here today; the atmosphere carried away some of her caution, and the noise made her feel as though tattling ears couldn't hear her.

D'lin & Plexith
((Tag to Cepheith & Narisa))

'Because your's is an important person, much as you are an important dragon. She must be up close as is proper for one of her rank and title' Plexith crooned at the gold soothingly 'Shall I tell mine to keep an eye on her just in case? He is up close as well" The bronze offered in gallant fashion. Far be it for him to pass up an opportunity to get close to a gold..and push his rider into knowing her's, maybe he was a bit ambitious but he truly did have the Weyr's best interest at heart. That she spoke to Pipith as well was the only sour note the larger bronze could think of.

'Mine! You need to watch over Cepheith's, she is worried for her's being up at the front!' Plexith demanded even before the gold could reply to his request.

'I'm sure that she's fine' D'lin started to argue but stepped forward anyways before Plexith could chew him out over it. As a wingleader he was allowed close enough to keep an eye on her in any case. "Sorry" He told her as he settled in nearby "MY dragon is a busy body and your's seemed a touch concerned about you being so far away from her"

****************************************************************************************

Eliza & Velath
((Tag Cetalese & F'itz))

"Sorry!" Eliza responded to Ceta as her friend joined her "I meant to tell you but then Velath rolled in the mud and I had to clean her off and then she was in a hurry to come and I..forgot" She stated with a slight shrug of her shoulder. Surely by now her friend was used to her rather scatterbrained ways.

She had been sad when the two of them had been put in separate wings - well until she learned that she then ended up with the gossip from both wings and figured out that they were still close friends despite not perhaps being with each other all the time. "Drinks are an excellent idea!" She agreed, they were even old enough now to actually drink and not endanger their dragons if they wanted to - how fun!

Before they could start off in that direction however someone called out to Ceta and Eliza turned with curiosity to regard the man. A man from another Weyr. This must be that F'itz fellow Ceta had told her about. What other brownrider from another Weyr would Ceta know after all "You must be F'itz! It's so great to met you! I'm Eliza, Ceta's friend - We were candidates together" She explained in typical Eliza whirlwind fashion.

*****************************************************************************************

Mercy & Aerith
((Tag to Kleos))

"Me too" Mercy agreed with her friend, eyeing the stage in front of them with slightly knitted brow's "The longer everyone mills around like this the more chances for something to happen - and some of the younger riders decided to come today..." Sure they were senior weyrlings now and fully capable of coming and going without any trouble..but they were still relatively new riders and having taught them well..she still worried.

Kleos was a good bit more worried then she was though - her worry was present but slight, but she supposed that her friend had a bit more at stake. Mercy was already fairly obsolete - she'd come to terms with not flying in a wing and fighting thread a while ago and had found other ways to be useful. She wasn't sure what Kleo's and Moriath would do if they suddenly found themselves jobless.

There really wasn't any point to worrying about that though - this device was ludicrous and there was no way it would work. She was positive. To comfort her friend however she reached out and took her hand, giving it a little 'don't worry' squeeze.

Morgaine and Palooth

At first Morgaine had thought to not come to the demonstration. The fact that she didn't like crowds was the main reason behind this, there would be so many unknown faces to deal with, and with those unknown faces came the possibilities of unknown germs, something Morgaine tried even harder to avoid than strangers. The second reason was that any free time that she had was devoted to her personal studies and she had recently stumbled upon something that could prove incredibly useful in the future if she could just crack the code. So while the others come to the gathering Morgaine had stayed behind. But as the frustration grew over not finding the right answer and Palooth's constant nudging that time away would do them both some good Morgaine decided to join in.

As it was she arrived well after many of the others had. Palooth's confidence, both in the flight over and after they had arrived kept her calm even when facing a large number of unfamiliar faces. "It will be okay Mine, Palooth will keep you safe." The dragon spoke to her, reassuring her that she had made the right decision to come here, taking a break from her research but also taking the time to attempt to socialize. 'I know Palooth, thank you.' Morgaine ran her head over the dragons head. 'But I will feel much better after we have found Mercy. Let's look for her.' Morgaine began to weave her way through those gathered keeping her eye out for her friend, while Palooth's presence kept her from freaking out. Mercy had to be around here somewhere.

[Cetalese] - Tag to F'itz and Eliza

Cinder's screech alerted Ceta to his presence, and she looked up just in time to see the Black shoot into the air, crying out. She stared for a moment, then began looking around for who had sent a messenger. It could have been Cinder... but there were many firelizards swooping around. For all she knew, it was just antics.

F'itz's arrival confirmed that, and Cetalese smiled broadly, unable to help herself. She opened her mouth to reply, but Eliza beat her to it, and she was reminded she had introductions to perform.

"Yes. F'itz, this is Eliza, rider of Green Velath. Eliza, this is F'itz of Benden, rider of Brown Brumath. It's so good to see you." The last bit was clearly directed at F'itz, and the beaming look was back in Cetalese's eyes. Despite that she was still restrained in her actions, her thrill at seeing her friend was clearly enough emotion to leak out of her normally calm expression. "I was more worried that you wouldn't show than that I wouldn't." Her face fell at the reminder of why they were here and her gaze dropped as well for a moment, before her clear green eyes glanced back up at him. She hadn't felt awkward with him, which was good. There was so much underlying their interaction, however, of which she was now cognizant. So much they couldn't discuss here, despite that Ceta was curious about if she and F'itz could have such open discussion in person as well as in letter. Well. Time enough for that later.

She smiled again and glanced up at the now clear sky above her. "I see you thought of a successful way to find me, though."

Sasar
(Tag Harmony)

"Exactly. It'll work though. Keller wouldn't be so supportive if he had doubts and he's the only one who's really been close enough to see it until today." His arms crossed over his chest and made a noise of disgust. "I'm sick of the riders and their arrogance. They don't have to work hard for their daily bread. They just hole up in the weyrs, playing at training and breeding their beasts while living off the fruits of others labor. The situation in the firestone mines ever since Thread fell has been dismal. Demand tripled and we don't have man power to satisfy their insane demands. They aren't even using it for anything useful either! Thread's fallen what twice now? Not exactly the frequent pattern they're all screeching about. At least with this machine, if it does Fall again we won't have to bend over backwards to their demands anymore."

[Jordan]

Archimonde was hiding something.

Jordan stared up at the Ancientcrafter from his place close to one edge of the crowd. For that matter, it seemed like a great many people in very certain professions had a lot of secrets lately. Not all, but more than usual. He glanced at Kindra, the junior Goldrider, and smirked slightly. At least her emotions were always apparent. And always a stick up her behind, too. Most Goldriders, he guessed, were like that.

Jordan hadn't solved this puzzle yet, but not for lack of trying. It seemed like his status as a Candidate made him less of a pariah with wherhandlers-- Archimonde's buddies-- than being a full rider, but many saw that as him having made the choice to be a rider and still avoided most contact with him. The nicest of them were little more than polite. Jordan was reminded of his run-in with Alianar, the wherhandler-hopeful, and shifted slightly. An awkward meeting that he had only barely scavenged.

Jordan scanned the crowd, taking in the unhappy dragonriders, and thought that he might feel the same. Dragonriding was going to be his way out of his home. Without that chance... what would he do? He couldn't go back home now. Without the riders...

Jordan's face was serious. This demonstration had to fail. He couldn't and wouldn't go home and that meant he had to have an alternative. Weaving was an option, he supposed, but the likelihood of them taking him now and having to work through Turns of apprenticeship with children... Not an appealing thought.

Jordan glanced at the woman who came up next to him and recognized one of the Weavers who worked at the Weyr. He eyed her for a moment, calculating, then leaned over and said, "For or against?" At her blank stare, he elaborated after a moment, "Are you supporting the Dragonlights working or do you hope they fail as spectacularly as I know most of the riders are?"

Careesi - (Tag Alianar & Fick)

Careesi turned and cringed a little as the strange man bumped into her injured arm. It had certainly healed up a great deal since her trials but still wasn't completely mended either. "No problem." She smiled to the man as she turned to face him. She didn't believe that she had ever seen him before, at least not around the Weyr. Perhaps he wasn't from Benden at all? She supposed that was likely the case. After all, many of the people here came from the other holds and Weyr's.

For a moment Careesi eyed the man cautiously. She never had been particularly good at meeting strangers, but since she hadn't seen anyone else that she recognized just yet perhaps now would be a good time. "I'm Careesi." She smiled to the man and was in the process of offering out her hand when someone else spoke. "No problem here." Careesi smiled at the man.

Syn & Gementh - (Tag Dizzian and Hekate)

Syn fidgeted about a bit in her spot in the crowd. Oh how she wished she had brought a book! She knew the demonstration shouldn't be much longer now but she was becoming anxious. The girl had never liked crowds let alone big ones and she was beginning to regret coming. Oh come now mine. Gementh spoke to her. It's not all that bad. Perhaps if you found someone to talk to you might enjoy yourself a bit more. Why don't we see if we can't find Dizzian? At least then you would know someone else. I doubt my sister let her stay back at the Weyr either.

The girl smiled as the hatchling spoke to her. Alright. She gave in easily. If she was stuck here then Gementh was right. She should at least try to enjoy herself. Looking about in the crowd, it took her a few minutes but she was finally able to find her bunkmate and Hekate. She hadn't really talked to the other girl much but she had seen her with Dizzian many times. "Hello there, is it okay if we stand with you?" She asked the pair sheepishly.

[Riarna]

Riarna looked over as someone addressed the world at large and discovered that, in fact, the boy was just talking to her. She stared back, not really recognizing him, and assumed he was speaking to her simply because he was staring at her. She glanced away for a moment, considering her reply, and then said, "I haven't decided yet. Have you determined if you think it will work or not?"

---

[Jordan and Riarna]

Jordan shrugged and smiled good-naturedly. "I'm just here to see if it does. It could make things interesting if does." And by 'interesting' he meant 'difficult.'

Riarna looked up at Archimonde beaming out over the crowd, a hint of acidity in her next words. "Yes, interesting is a word for it."

Jordan eyed her, then the smile returned. "I'm Jordan, one of the Candidates. I don't believe I ever heard you name, Weaver."

"Though you've clearly seen me around the Weyr," she replied. "I'm Riarna, Journeywoman Weaver."

"And if the Weyr does become superfluous because of Archimonde's little project... where will you go?"

Riarna frowned at him, but it didn't seem to deter Jordan any. After her trip with B'nas and now this encounter with a Candidate whose personality was clearly designed to irk those around him, she was starting to feel less than charitable. She never liked crowds or noise. This was not her idea of a good time.

"The Crafthall will reassign me. What will you do without your chance at your chosen livelihood, Candidate? Go home? Sign up with the wherhandlers?"

Riarna watched Jordan's smile fade slightly, and then come back more bright and somehow more nasty than it was before. She didn't regret her words, but she did think she should stay silent until she had found a way to smooth this over, lest the rest of the evening be uncomfortable for them.

"Now, sweetheart, don't you worry about me. I always find a way!" Jordan effervesced, flapping a hand. Riarna kept her face unimpressed; boys like this liked the shock they instilled in others too much for her to want to feed it to him.

"A good many people will be out of a home, a profession, and a way of living they know and love," she said, looking away and crossing her arms. "I like the chance for a second way to defend Pern." She stopped from saying more, and simply concluded with, "I certainly hope that if this demonstration succeeds we all have the chance to continue as we have for some time before we are forced to change our lives. Do you think your way will involve staying on at the Weyr or finding a new profession?"

Jordan shrugged, still playing the role of flamboyant Candidate, but without that hard edge he had had a moment before. "I guess there's always Weaving."

Riarna shot him a sudden look, sensing a jab at her profession, but she glanced at his hands anyway, trying to assess the dexterity.

"We're always looking for new apprentices. You certainly aren't too old to start Weaving, though I can't remember seeing you doing chores around the Weaver's rooms if you're really interested." She was being polite, but it never hurt with customers, so she doubted covering herself would hurt here. Judging from Jordan's expression, Riarna thought her caution may have served her well in this case.

Hekate and Devith
-Tag for Dizzian and Syn

"Oh yes trust me he was quite proud of it." Hekate added with a chuckle of her own causing Devith to shift and snort at her reply. As if such a man could ever be good enough for His. Turning his attention back to his sister though he listened to her reasoning with interest.

I doubt such a contraption could ever fully replace us. Still as long as we had some say in it's use I see no reason why we cannot aid each other. Devith mused rather interested in his siblings thought process on the matter.

At the approach of Syn and Gement both sets of eyes, Hekate's amber and Devith's whirling blue and green turned on the new pair examining them for a moment. Much as Dizzian had once felt it was almost as if the young silver and his rider were picking the pair apart before giving a nod.

A dark roguish smile lit up Hekate's lips as she nodded her greeting to Syn. "Of course. I certainly have no objections to you joining us. What about you Devith? Dizzian? Courath?" Hekate vouched her silver tilting his head in a regal greeting to his green sibling.

Ah sister. How goes yourself and your rider? Devith rumbled in his usually booming purr as he welcomed his clutchmate. Ha! Not even a bronze and he was already being flanked by not one, but two greens! He'd noted early on that the older dragons seemed to prize his female siblings attention. While he couldn't quite fathom why he certainly wasn't hurt by the fact the he had more then most.

After all he did deserve to have all eyes on him.

(Tag Mercy)

Kleos scanned the crowd again and nodded sharply. "I'm surprised there hasn't been more trouble than this. A few minor scuffles is the worst I have seen, and they were swiftly broken up by the combatant's friends." It spoke of the enormity of this demonstration that Malvren and Benden folk hadn't been at one another's throats. She shifted her stance and looked over towards where she knew Moriath was, seeking reassurance from her crimson bondmate. This wouldn't work, and they would all go home and carry on as they had been before.

"Despite how calm things have been so far, we would be wise to watch our back," she added in an undertone, "things have been peaceful so far, but that could easily change." Now that thought had entered her mind she couldn't shake it, and summoned Ice and Moss from whatever they had been doing to flutter around some way overhead and keep watch for suspicious movements. One assassin might be dead but there could be others, and queens might be rare and precious things to destroy but Mercy? She was unique. She would not allow harm to come to her.

===========

(Tag Sasar)

Harmony hummed for a moment and then gave a nod of agreement. "Our masterhandler knows what he's doing. He wouldn't risk making us look like fools in front of the riders if he wasn't confident.... You know I wanted to be one of them once," the red-haired woman sneered at the memory of her former self. "That's what every little weyrbrat is trained to dream of, anything else is a failure in their eyes. I'm glad I aged out of their nasty little ritual of candidacy, I'll actually be doing something practical with my life. Ha, and then there's the fact that I can earn any rank I want if I work for it; as one of them if you get the wrong colour you can kiss your ambitions goodbye. The rest of Pern has moved on from stupid outmoded ways of thinking like that, but they remain the same as ever and still want their boots licked."

To look down upon a rider. To give him orders to take her package here or there, or to take her to visit another masterhandler (for she wore those fine knots in her imagining). Fancy couriers, ever so grateful for her custom. Yes. She would enjoy that.

===========

(Tag Alianar & Careesi)

Fick transferred his wineskin to his left hand, and held out his right to each stranger in turn to clasp in affable greeting. "Name's Fick, wherhandler, my partner's Ficksk," he said with a nod. "Where you two from then? I'm Malvren. Bloody great party they've put on, isn't it? Best gather I've been to in ages." Plus the possibility of the whole world changing! 'I was there'. That would be something to tell the grandchildren if he was planning on having any, which he wasn't. He sipped at his wine and peered over at the raised stage again.

(Tag to N'mol.. well Tyeth... and Narisa)

"Thank you Tyeth but i can make my own path" Replied Suunath, making her way through the other Benden dragons towards where she could see Kindra up at the front.

Kindra couldn't see N'mol but she did pass someone who looked her way. From her knots she was another Goldrider. She paused in her move towards the front "Goldrider" she said curtly, wanting to talk but in her current mood, not knowing exactly what so she offered Narisa an opening instead.

Chrysicai

Cai stood on pins and needles as she waited for the display to start. She'd been at the Gather since it was being set up, helping and reviewing basic practices in the Healers Tent. It was simple work, just dosing patients for indigestion and over indulgence, a couple broken bones and bruises from fights among the drunken gamblers but nothing terribly serious. About the only interesting thing that had happened was one of the pack animals had spooked and trampled it's owner. The man would live but he'd learn his lesson about approaching one of the hooved beasts from behind.

Now she shoved her way to the front of the crowd, this apprentice standing boldly next to ranking riders, Holders and Masters from all across Pern. Cradled in one arm was a finely made notebook, many of it's pages already covered from one edge to the other in small cramped handwriting. Her other hand bore a short graphite stick that scribbled furiously across a fresh page, taking detailed observations of the event so far as well as the people around her. Another fresh graphite stick was tucked behind her ear ready for use.

She was decked head to toe in standard healer green, nothing to note about it except for the fact that she looked like an angry little flower with her long orange hair, green attire and serious face.

Dizzian
(tag Hekate & Syn)

~ It won't replace us. We will always fly when Pern is in danger. Nothing will stop us. ~ The contraption didn't bother her in the least, so sure was she in her belief. Her eyes whirled pleasantly as Gementh joined them. It was nice to see another familiar face among the crowd of strangers. ~ Gementh! Join us, I'm glad to see you made it as well. ~

"Syn! Hey you made it! Of course you can join us!" There was real pleasure in her greeting as she gave the other greenrider a quick hug. She scoffed, not quite pulling it off with the big grin on her face. "As if I'd mind! Better to be with friends than on your own!"

Sasar
(Tag Harmony)

Sasar raised a quiet eyebrow. "You're lucky to escape. Kids don't seem to realize what fate they're sealing for themselves when they Stand. Even worse when the Weyrs kidnap children from their homes and crafts, just to either disappoint them for turns, ruining their self-esteem and putting their own futures on hold or worse, trapping them within the Weyr to care for a parasite. Taking what could have been a solid productive member of society and turning them into a pompous, selfish, entitled wherry s**t." His voice was a growl, reminded of his youngest brother who even now was at one of the Southern Weyrs, being practically brainwashed into joining them. As much as he despised Ailin, it would be even worse if he actually Impressed. Sasar would be horrified to have a Rider in his family, especially one like his little brother. The kid could have been a proper Harper, while not always the most useful of careers at least it was something.

"I'd rather choose my fate than have it chosen for me. When this is over, we will have them licking our boots. "

F'nell and Brown Krith

The brown rider wasn't really sure how he felt about this whole demonstration. On one hand, andything that would help fight thread was a plus, but on the other... well, this threatened his livelyhood. Or kind of anyways. Of course, that was only if it worked.

He was a little concerned with how many people were around, his mind was just praying that the thing didn't explode in all thier faces, a distinct possiblitly concidering how the weyr's luck had been going so far. It wouldn't surprise him in the least if something went wrong.

But, enough of that for now. There was more than enough negativity over this thing without him adding to it, and plus, there were all sorts of things to see and do.

I am going to nap. Wake me if you need me.

He would too, if things went wrong, and people needed to be evacuated, but until then, the brown was more than welcome to sleep. As for him, well, what a better time to lay down a few bets, and as he made his way to the stage, paused briefly to put down a few marks on the outcome of this. There were more than enough people that he was able to bet on both outcomes, plus one random- that it would work once, and then never work again.

Now he just had to see how things would turn out.

[Mazamath tag to Aerith]

Mine is very excited! Mazamath relayed to Aerith. It will be good if we don't have to fight Thread anymore, we have decided, although not many others seem to think so, and they keep telling her she's wrong. It makes her sad. Why would they rather die than not be so important anymore?

She is...not quite in the middle. She is more to the left, I think.

[Set'al/Pipith tag to Cepehith]

Hello, Cepheith! Pipith crooned, eyes whirling happily - although he was less than delighted by the proximity of the much larger Plexith. Hmph. I have kept Mine here with me, but I would send him up to be with Yours, if you like...

Set'al snorted. Before, it was too risky, but now it's okay?
