Beloved Stargazer

Progress, but not quite. This was like learning to walk all over again - he remembered it well, in a way mortals did not - their memory not as far-reaching.

He had been the last to really get the hang of walking, and it had only served to cement his position as the 'baby brother'.

He huffed a bit in frustration, but steadied himself, shoulders squared, all four eyes narrow in concentration. He steadied himself, struck.... and hit the tree.

Maybe a little too well, as the blade stayed stuck. A few thugs did not get Akakios anymore, and when he finally pitted his strength into it, he did manage to free himself... But lost balance with a yelp.

User Image Exalla watched as Akakios struck again and struck hard enough to get himself stuck. She audibly sighed, drawing along his side and grunted as he lost balance, bracing her body so when he staggered, his lower half knocked against hers without his losing his footing. <> There was laughted in her reprimand, however, as she looked back at him with her stalk eyes, waiting for him to regain balance.

<> She made a gesture, watching him intently.

<> He teased right back - after he steadied himself, of course. Doing this really required careful balance of many things at once - which probably was why Exalla was making him do this to begin with.

Once he felt secure in his footing, he tried again - not hitting exactly the same spot, ending up just slightly to the right. Perhaps the most important thing was that he did not, in fact, get stuck and look like an idiot this time around.

User Image <> She gave a confident nod, admitting no where in her tone or body language that 'functional' was separated by a large gulf from 'graceful'.

The second strike was better but he hitched a hip just before attacking - a painfully obvious tell - and Exalla laid a hand on his haunches, pressing against the blue fur there where he'd cocked a hip. <> The hand slid along his spine as she demonstrated the motion and it fell away when it got to the base of his tail, <>

Being touched was... strange. Especially like this, with the fur in between. His mother and sister were the most physical in the family, with Lacrymosa having been the one who obviously carved the touch the most - be it for direction or simply comfort. He tensed a bit without truly noticing he was, but stayed put and let Exalla position him.

<> He nodded, and moved again when Exalla had backed away from him - he had no want to hit her, after all. That movement was better - he was starting to stop overthinking every single movement so badly and just letting the body move naturally.

She noticed the shift in his stance, the greater ease and instinct of his strike as it landed home and sank an inch or two into the tree. <> The praise was even-toned but it was nonetheless praise. <>

Exalla waited while he repeated the motion a handful more times and gave a nod when she considered it enough then stepped away, half prancing far enough to induce Kios to walk to close the distance. She didn't speak but her gesture was simple enough: follow me. She expected with his exercise, the godling might be better able to move without thinking now - or at least she hoped he would.

Exalla was a good teacher, and Akakios found himself enjoying the fact that she was not sugar-coating anything - that she was, for all intent and purpose, treating him like she would anyone else, and not as... Well, a god. It was oddly refreshing, and it made it easier to connect with her - wearing a form similar to her own did help, as well.

So while that perticular part might have been an unintended lesson, it was not one the young god would forget.

He repeated the motions, again and again, until Exalla seemed satisfied. He paused for a moment, but was quick to follow as she headed away. He seemed to have all but forgotten that he was trying to walk on four legs instead of two, and it helped his stance and motion a great deal - his movements did not look as forced as they first had been.

She was pleased when he seemed so much smoother as he ran with her, the air stirring her fur a nice distraction from the foreign sights and scents. This place was so different from her home, so raw... so potent... but they accepted her as they accepted these strange energy-beings that called themselves Gods. It was strange, really, to have developed a friendship with Akakios so swiftly....

A hoof knocked against a rock and she stumbled, nearly tumbling into the grass with a yelp of surprise. When she recovered, she seemed sheepish and looked everywhere but at Kios - not an easy feat for an andalite - and scuffed a hoof against the ground. <> Her embarassment was veiled only lightly by the brisk, professional tones of her mind-speech. <<... Thank-you. For your company.>> The words were spoken almost as an after thought, unused as she was to thanking anyone outside her species for anything.

Perhaps these aliens were rubbing off on her more then she'd like to admit. Exhaling loudly, she turned to go, many thoughts on her mind.

This was indeed fun ! Running like this was very different than running on two legs - he had to admit Exalla was right on one point - he did feel much more stable like this. Through it seemed the andalite was out to prove that tumbles were, indeed, still very possible.

His first reflex was to try to catch her as she fell, but they had been too far apart from each other for Lament to be able to do so in time. Exalla's speech was curt and did her best to try to downplay her embarrassment but the way she was avoiding looking at him spoke volumes - though he, likewise, did his best to remain impassible as to not embarass the andalite further. Of course, if he had a mouth at the moment, he might have been sporting an amused grin. The unfamiliar form did help conceal him somewhat.

<> He could have promised not to embarrass her, but... Well. He was perceptible enough to try and side-step that particular issue. <> And he meant it. This had been extremely liberating in it's own way. Lament's frustration was greatly diminished, for the moment at least.

The god nodded as she stepped away, and then did the same in turn.
