Forgotten winced sympathetically as Death found himself at the wrong end of legendary-style Owlcat claws. Ouch. He was very glad that he had passed his own ‘new form reaction test’ without a similar incident.
He looked away from the bloodbath, focusing on Cry’s words and trying to ignore the agonized screeching going on nearby. “That’s quite fascinating…”
When Cue walked over, having taught her brother a suitably painful lesson, he studied her once more. This time able to process the change without bemused glossy-eyed look. “The swamp is more than I had first imagined.”

"You don't have much imagination," she said, but sounded fond. Amazing what a correct answer at just the right time could do for a guy.
(I think a couple more posts of sibling-banter and she'll be done with her brothers! Should we ask around Forgotten's siblings to see if anyone wants to catch up with their good ol' bro before/after she sees her mum? XD)

"Well," a raspy voice - which had evidently not learnt enough - drifted over behind them, approaching. There were a few staggering, ragged breaths before Death couldn't help but ask for it: "if he had any imagination, he wouldn’t have settled for you, geez."

All those sympathetic feelings for Death were washed away. The Kiokote snorted and stamped a hoof down. “I have not settled for anything. Any buck in his right mind would be ecstatic to have Cue by his side.” Never mind that he was not certain as to what their relationship actually entailed, but he wasn’t going to tolerate that slight.
(I spaced out on this one, whoops. But yes, let’s contact his siblings <3)

Her mind, as was its wont, shut down as soon as any hint of their supposed relationship reached her ears. Ignoring both Death and Forgotten outright, she said to Cry, "Has Mother been around lately? We're only stopping for a brief while, but I suppose she might like to see the change."

The perfunctoriness of his even-toned reply showed no sign, but his one good eye might have gleamed just that tad in amusement as he replied, "Yes, Mother has just been back from the sea. You'll find her at the store."

Unfortunately, if not entirely unexpectedly, the first Kimeti to greet them as they entered the salt marsh store was not dear old Mother, but the eponymous Rise of Rise & Co.
