Emil's eyes widened at this. Luke's very own brother had stolen one of Rosie's Pokemon? The thought simply horrified him. How could anyone do that?

"But... but that's..." He just had no words. Emil couldn't imagine being in Luke's position. That had to be rather conflicting to know that your own twin brother was responsible for stealing the Pokemon of one of your friends.

He responded with a brief nod, a show of understanding of Emil's reaction. He'd felt similarly speechless upon learning of his ties to Asch, steadfastly refusing to accept it as reality. That seemed to be another bad habit of his: rejecting painful realities. He really was a child, wasn't he?

"My choices and Asch's are different, though," he said, maintaining a faint smile in an effort not to let memories of emotions drag him down. "If he lives his life in a way that hurts people, I'll live mine in a way that helps them." A weighty declaration, the implications of which he certainly didn't fully understand - but they were pretty words, weren't they? "Besides, I don't think he's evil or anything... There must be a reason he's doing all this."

Emil listened, and he couldn't help but agree with Luke. Surely his brother couldn't be all bad... right? But yet... he had stolen Rosie's Pokemon. That was just... so wrong.

"You should ask him," Emil said quietly. although he then remembered that Luke's brother was a very angry person. So that might not go over well. He honestly didn't know what Luke should do. Emil was probably the last person that could give any sort of good advice. He didn't know what he would do if faced with a situation like that.

Luke blinked in a momentary loss for words. Well, that was certainly one approach... and a very straightforward one at that. He raised a hand to the back of his neck idly. "He'd probably just get mad..." He was always mad though, so... "Heh, but I guess that's the worst he can do, huh? That and maybe threaten me or something. It's worth a shot."

Emil smiled a little as Luke seemed to agree. Although he knew that he wouldn't have the courage to do such a thing. But Luke was far more brave than he was, and so he was glad that his friend could approach his brother like that. Maybe... just maybe someday he could be like that. It was something for Emil to strive for.

"Yeah... um. Good luck," he said meekly.

Luke inclined his head slightly to a side. He was struck, from time to time, by just how soft-spoken Emil was. What would it take, he wondered, to get the kid to speak up louder and stand up straighter?

"Thanks," he said. "And to you too, whenever you decide to face your own family." Ah damn, he'd forgotten that he was trying to get Emil to volunteer more about himself. How had the conversation turned back so completely to Luke? Not much he could do about it now, he supposed, besides hope the younger boy had taken something useful from the conversation.

Emil would like to know the answer to that too. He didn't like being so timid and unsure of himself, but he didn't know what to do about it. He'd been this way for as long as he could remember.

The boy dipped his head in a nod to Luke with a shy smile. He hoped that things turned out okay for his friend, although he wasn't so sure it would for himself. But maybe with Luke's help, it could be okay.

"I... I'm sorry you had to come all the way out here for me." He felt kind of bad about that, but at the time, Emil didn't know what else to do.

Luke dismissed the apology with a vague wave of his hand, "Don't worry about it. I... probably shouldn't have run off like that anyway, huh? Or I at least should have told you what was going on." It was no wonder Emil had felt like he had to go home. Disappearing whenever he felt like it, returning whenever it was convenient, not talking to his friends until he wanted to... It was all awfully selfish, wasn't it?

Emil gave a little shrug of his shoulders. "Its okay... you've been through a lot." And it was true, what with everything that had happened the other day and the whole story that Luke had just told him. He probably would have wanted to run away too. It was a natural thing, he thought.

He sort of wanted to argue against that, but he supposed he couldn't manage that without being untruthful about it. A lot had certainly happened lately, and that was ignoring everything that had happened even before the events as of late. "Well," he stood and stretched, "I'm gonna head back into town, I think. You coming?"

As Luke stood, Emil looked up and soon climbed to his feet as well. He gave a nod at the question. "Yeah, I'm coming." There was no point staying out here now. He had decided he wasn't ready to go home. Would he ever be ready though? That was a question that could only be answered with time. Thus, Emil would follow Luke back into the city.
