Lance jabbed his weapon at the phoenix, grunting in agreement. "Either way, we should consider taking care of it once we've down this creature. Never know how many other hunters are around, and I'd have to have it jump one of 'em."

"Why not? It beats going back and getting packed in like sardines once we're finished here," Lance replied, backing up as Marcus backed up. Lance maintained a fair distance between himself and his meat shield, giving Marcus enough room to move around while still having the Moon trainee remain in front of him to defend.
"Heh. What tipped you off? So far, we're good. I'm going to be using my Fear next round, so get ready to move aside in just a sec."

Marcus chuckled a bit. "Not that bad. Beats being stuck in the New York Subway. And dude, you wanted to have us stick it out, not to mention you are really good at stabbing." A step forward to meet an attack and shove it to the side, "You're up." Stepping to the side, Marcus was hoping that it wasn't some AoE.

Lance shifted his weapon over to his other hand, flicking the weapon downward. The glyphs on the weapon seemed to hover in mid-air as if he moved his lance too quickly to follow the motion. The hunter grabbed hold of these glyphs and pulled, forming a hot reddish-yellow line that connected his lance to his hand. Lance pulled again, increasing the length of the line as he began to twirl his hand around. As he spun, the length of the line seemed to grow longer and longer, increasing in size until it looped around and formed a lasso. This was then thrown at the phoenix, his hand moving down sharply to tighten the noose around the bird's neck.
"Now!" Lance held it steady as a pulse of fire emerged from the weapon, following the glowing trail. The hunter winced as the pulse flashed through his hand, traveling up the length of the glyph-rope before burning the phoenix itself.
When Lance raised his weapon again, it was plain. A moment later the glyphs seemed to burn themselves onto it, restoring it to its former appearance.
...And of course the Phoenix shrugged the lasso off before the attack reached it. "Son of a --"

The show was impressive, but when the phoenix brushed it off, the moon trainee let out a loud groan. "******** bird." A glance cast back had him worried. "You hurt though?" Another hit blocked, but- "Or are you still good?"

Lance shook his head at Marcus. "I'm fine, it's going to take a lot more then that. I've survived being bucked off of a lot worse." His hand was hurting like a b***h, but his weapon's Fear shield at least prevented it from being burned. It was good to know that he was still capability of performing some tasks, even if his weapon shot him a thought of irritation. It was lost to you when we first started out.Not anymore, sweetheart. Good to hear, good to know. "Still, better to ask than assume. You ready for another attack because- ********." A wing shoving him back, Marcus stuck his blade out, hoping it would injure itself. By chance he managed a small enough twist that when it pushed again, it nearly cut itself.

Lance reached out with his free hand - pleasedon'ttouchhisbuttpleasedon't--WHEW - and steadied Marcus as he stepped back, dropping his hand from the Moon trainee's back as he regained his footing. "If I was, I wouldn't be holding this and I'd be far more useless than I was. Ha!" Lance jabbed his weapon forward one more time.

Some where, some moon trainee whispered 'No homo'. Laughing, he was able to block two swipes before pushing it back for once. "No one is useless." A grunt as he felt the phoenix push against him. "Whoever told you that was a ******** d**k."

Lance said nothing, placing his attention on the monstrosity in front of them. He jabbed forward again, mentally crossing his fingers in hopes that this time they would finish the job.
He felt his lance slide into it. He jerked his arm back, watching as the phoenix uttered one last cry as fog began to bleed from the latest wound. In the matter of moments the creature seemed to crumble, its ashes hissing and dissipating into fog.
"...Well now. That takes care of that."

Breathing a sigh of relief as the bird crumbled into the air, Marcus took a second to lean back against the wall. They had killed it. Las time it had taken... quite a few people to bring one down, and noe they were golden. "That was-" pausing he searched for the word, "annoying. It just would not die. But uh-" Looking to where they had seen a little thing crop up he shrugged. "It made midgets. Shall we take care of those or do you want to head back."
He motioned to Lance's hands. "I think you hurt yourself more than the bird."

"That's usually what Phoenixes do. You kill them, they come back, you kill them again..." Lance volunteered, leaning back in his chair. "If you thought that was bad, wait until you go up against a real one." The hunter followed Marcus' gesture to his hands, holding one up and looking at it. "Nah. I'm fine. It feels a bit warm, but Avila shielded me from getting a burn. If a weapon concentrates enough, they can block the pain and most damage. The more your weapon likes you, the more likely they'll do it for you." Lance raised his weapon and pointed beyond Marcus. "Let's scout around for a bit. If we can find the spawns, great. If not... then we'll keep looking." Quote: 34-65: A large, semi-solid creature barrels into you! It's slow-moving but a bit more powerful than the smaller ones. Immediately he tensed up. "No thanks. That one last mission? Hahaha yeah no. That was enough of a 'real' phoenix for me." The whole wanting to stab all the things, his friends included? Yeah no, that had seriously sucked. The after math and the voices were still sucking really. But they had a job. Kill some spawns, a boogie out.
"Avila? Mine's Desidero. And if that's true about them liking us to protect us... Dis sucks at it."
Awwww but I love you~ you just need a good jolt of pain sometimes.
"But, no problem, I'll take point again." It didn't take very long before a tiny thing came barreling towards them. "Incoming runt Lance."

His voice softened, "They can't protect against everything, but they do one hell of a good job of it. You won't find a closer compadre anywhere else." Lance affectionately patted his lance, a fond smile crossing his face before Marcus brought him back up to the present.
Lance raised his weapon and struck at the offending creature. "Good of it to come to us and not the other way around!"
