Q. Are dice-based games common here, or is it mostly freeform?
A. It's mostly free-form, but 'dice'-based games are possible by use of Gaia's rolling function or an outside dice roller.

Q. What is the difference between forum and IM roleplaying?
A. The main difference is length vs posting frequency. Forums RPs generally have longer, more elaborate posts made every few days or so whereas IM RPs have shorter, faster posts made every few minutes (during an RP session). Forums tend to work better for people with busy lives and conflicting schedules while IMs are for the old school crowd used to playing all night sessions with quick back and forth.

Q. Do you have to have a character profile set up before you jump into an RP? A. That depends on the RP that you join but usually yes. Good GMs require a profile of some sort so that they can get a sense of your RP level and/or if you've read and understood their setup.

Q. Is it okay to post a character profile in the Character Profiles and Development subforum that is not for a particular roleplay?
A. Yes, it's fine for you to post any character in there even if they don't belong to an RP. Keep in mind we like for characters that are currently in an RP (especially an RP in the guild) to put what RP they're from in their title.

Q. Do I need a picture of my character to use them in an RP?
A. No, you do not need a picture for your character. In fact we prefer that you describe your character with words. Pictures are good supplements, but it's your ability to describe your character with words that's more important to RP.

Q. Are we allowed to use a picture as an overview, then describe it more thoroughly in words?
A. Yes, but make sure your images are appropriate and do not stretch the page. A general rule is nothing wider than 600 pixels for a large image with no text wrapping, and nothing wider than 300 if you're wrapping text around it. If your image is larger than this don't put it in your post, link it instead. We also suggest using Original artwork, not something you clipped from an anime or found on the internet.

Q. Would you discourage using the same name for all your characters?
A. Yes, at best it might just make you eccentric but for most it will be confusing and encourage carbon-copy characters.

Q. Is there a standard format for our RP thread titles?
A. Yes. Please use this format to title your thread:
Title (New | status | genre)
OOC threads should be titled as follows and linked within the first post of their corresponding RP:
OOC - Corresponding RP Title
All new RPs should be listed as New. Crew will assign a level once the RP has gone for 10 pages or so. Do not assign your own level. A list of standard statuses are provided below. If you do not use this format one of the Crew may change your thread's title to follow the format. Examples include:
Thread Title (New | Open/Accepting | Fantasy) Longer Thread Title (N | O/A)
The abbreviations are to facilitate longer titles on account of Gaia's restrictive subject lengths. Long titles may omit the genre.
RP Status List: [N] New - should be on all RPs until they reach 10 pages, then Crew will assign a level. [UC] Under Construction - RP is not ready for players to look at. Should only be used while developing RP threads. [A] Accepting - taking in new players [F] Full - not taking new players. This may be left out of the RP title. Instead, simply do not flag the RP as Accepting. [O] Open - players may post to the RP thread. Also you should have a "This RP is now open" post in the thread when you add this tag. [C] Closed - players may not post (generally waiting to begin). This may be left out of the RP title. Instead, simply do not flag the RP as Open. [H] Hiatus - players may not post but it should come back soon [D] Dead - players have stopped posting and/or GM has abandoned thread
