"Woah, easy there Commander," KO raised his hands and took a step back, his manner still as relaxed as ever but his voice carrying a touch more deference. "You were complaining about it earlier, I didn't see that there wasn't any harm in my joining in, no disrespect meant... and as you say, you'll be onto bigger and better things in no time."
Such good friends. He glanced at Arcadie and gave her a little grin. "Oh me and Star go way back... I wouldn't say we're friends though, he was far to far up the chain of command for that."

Having his superiority explained to Arcadie seemed to calm Star a bit. Grunting, he sat back down so she could finish. "Acquaintances." He further clarified.

"Oh..." She deflated, frowning lightly. She hefted herself up to sit on the counter against which she leaned and kicked her feet idly, "Well that doesn't mean you can't be friends some day, right? Even if you're ranked differently. There was that one executive, he was friends with all the grunts!" She raised a fist into the air to more enthusiastically punctuate her example. Well, hearsay was that that executive was a grunt now himself, but that was beside the point. So far from the point. So, so far.

The sooner he was a grunt too the better, he was not enjoying having to go back to flattering Star's ego in the least. That had been the nice thing about going solo, and about acting as more of a consultant than as part of the chain of command in the gangs he had joined; you didn't have to suck up to ridiculous men with more self importance than, well, anything.
K.O. shot Arcadie a small smirk before starting to inspect his nails. "Well that would be up to Star, not me; it's the privilege of the more important person to decide whether or not they care to befriend somebody lower down the totem pole." Star would love that 'more important' bit.

Star sneered as Arcadie described the famed executive, "Don't talk about Loreven like he's some sort of people's hero. The man is an idiot." When KO described him as important he tilted his chin up slightly, looking vaguely pleased, and considered the red-haired man. After a moment he looked back at Arcadie, "Are you finished? I'd like to get dressed."

Arcadie rested her elbows against her knees and propped her chin up the palms of both hands. "Booooo." What a Grumpy Gus. Maybe he'd feel a little friendlier if he weren't all bandaged up like some kind of mummy. It was a theory to test later on. "Yeah, I'm done; you can go ahead and get dressed if you have to."

Humm, a friendly executive? He'd have to look into that, even if the man was friends with just about everyone and making a connection wouldn't be especially out of the ordinary it could prove useful. Any friends around here right now would be useful of course; the only thing even approaching an ally he had so far was Star and... well, Star. Humm, and maybe this Arcadie too.
K.O. smiled at her.
"Once I've settled in here a little, perhaps you and I could meet up again Arcadie? I could do with the low down on who's who in the medical department if you have the time." Gaining useful information and building bridges; two birds with one Thunderbolt! Then turning to Star he offered a more quizzical, less smirky expression. "So, is it back to work for you now Star? I don't want to be a drag if you've got work to get on with." Somehow he had a feeling he might make more friends if he wasn't first seen wandering around in the company of the overblown stick insect; Star might once have inspired fear and had plenty of toadies (himself included), but he couldn't think of anyone offhand who had liked the man.

Star rolled his eyes at Arcadie's comment, though there was no doubt he appreciated her suggesting he looked good with his shirt off. As he tugged his shirt back on he looked at KO. "I'm going to deliver these Pokemon." He gestured at the bag still hanging at his hip, "Then I'm going to focus on some of my own work." This was code for 'I'm going back to my room to annoy my roomate with powertool noises.'

Arcadie responded to KO's smile with one of her own, "Sure thing, Captain, I'm around anytime you need me." And he was just so fun. It was like being asked on a date by the football team's star player; who in their right might would turn him down? Well, she still had her boyfriend to think about, of course, but if it was just hanging out to chat about work then even he couldn't complain.
She waved at Star as he vocalized his plans. "Have fun, Commander," she'd instinctively picked up on the nickname from listening to KO talk, "and make sure to come back if that burn starts aggravating. Not that it should; I'm pretty confident in my first aid." Her smile brightened with the pride she spoke of.

K.O. grinned brilliantly and gave Arcadie a wink. "Then it's a date," he purred, shifting his weight to the other hip as he turned to study Star again. It was kind of fun to make up in his head what His Own Work might be, something involving standing in front of the mirror in nothing but his heels telling himself how pretty he was perhaps. "I won't bother you any more for now then Star," the redhead said with an incline of his head that was tantalizingly close to a bow. "I imagine I'll see you about the place though, and I'll be sure to let you know the moment I've repaired your coat for you." It would be interesting to see if Star would just agree to that or if the once-commander was pathetic enough to want to keep the damaged garment until he had the materials to do the job.

Star's eyeybrow twitched and he fixed Arcadie a severe glare when she called him Commander. Judging by his narrowed eyes, he took it as a form of mockery.
Lips pursed, his eyes twitched back to KO. As the other man spoke, his gaze drifted to his coat and his eyebrows relaxed. He looked like he was considering options. Several moments passed before he climbed to his feet and faced KO, "..I'll expect the repairs done soon. And only the repairs. If you make any other alterations I doubt you can anticipate just how badly you'll regret it." He sighed and smoothed his shirt, "I'll be by later to see about the uniform adjustments."

No, no, if Arcadie was going to mock someone, she was going to do it outright. She received Star's glare with a plain confusion, smiling all the while. He didn't like her much, huh? In Arcadie-language, that was a challenge.
A brief salute answered KO's confirmation, and she hopped down off the counter to gesture at the examination room's door with a flourish. "Well then, hope to see the both of you again soon! Oh, but not in the infirmary, of course. That's just messed up. Unless it's for working which I guess it might very well be in the Captain's case." No one could accuse her of being unsociable, at least.

"Of course Star," K.O. folded the coat neatly over his arm and smoothed it down, a part of him relishing taking possession of something that had once represented Star's power and now just his faded glory. "I'll probably replace that whole panel, and the one on the other side," he elaborated, "I'll colour and fabric match carefully, but it's better if it all comes from the same bolt or you might end up with one side fading differently over time." Better to be clear, lest Star find some reason to cuff him when he handed the finished product back. Being higher ranked than Star... now there was an ambition to harbor. That is sir to you, Ian. Who knew, could come about, stranger things had happened.
"Of course," he switched off his musings and switched back on his smirk-grin as he turned to Arcadie, "don't know if I'll be assigned here yet or not, but if I am then I look forward to working with you. For now though, I should take my leave and see if I can track down my no doubt luxurious quarters. Until next time Star, Arcadie." Throwing a relaxed salute to the former and another wink to the latter K.O. turned and headed for the door.
Team Rocket.
Might not be exactly what he had planned for today, but if he couldn't make this place work for him then his name wasn't... whatever it was he decided to make it today.
