I work as a bartender at a place called the tipsy crow. It's down in the asscrack of Downtown San Diego so I get to deal with drunk college students and starving artists. I attend college part time studying pathology and mortuary science. We're the back end of the medical career. emotion_dealwithit

I'm a full-time graduate student that's living off of student loans, unemployment, and my savings.

I would not have my life any other way right now.

Broke a** college student. I'll probably be selling plasma on Friday. emotion_donotwant

I delivered pizzas last summer but I really don't want to do that again. I have a chance at becoming a resident adviser for my dorm building, and/or an office worker at the college of pharmacy. Hopefully I'll get both and hopefully one of them is immediate cuz I'm broke as a lame joke.

I have a friend that has been donating plasma for months now. Have you done it before?
Yup I've done it many times, just not for a while. The place I go to is pretty busy so there's almost always a long line, it usually takes around two hours. I'm not squeamish about needles or anything so that part doesn't bother me.

I have a cousin that's a mortician! She loves her job.

All my friends say I should look into bartending as a part-time job. I've been thinking of it. As for mortuary science, that's what I job-shadowed in high school. I think that seems like an interesting career.

I've been somewhat considering going to the plasma center over the summer with my friend. It makes me nervous, though. Doesn't the procedure include draining a large percentage of blood and then replacing it after the plasma is collected?

Almost. The place I go takes a total of 800 mL of plasma. A needle (14 gauge I think?) is inserted into a vein in your arm and it is hooked up to a machine with an internal glass centrifuge and an external plastic bottle that collects the plasma. The machine gently draws the blood while you pump your fist to keep up the flow. It only draws 330 mL at a time then the machine switches from 'draw' to 'return' and everything but the plasma is given back to you through the same needle. You go through these cycles until you reach 800 mL of plasma, then on the last return you get some saline solution to replace some of the lost fluids. This is my least favorite part because the saline is room temperature and it makes you really cold.

If you do end up donating plasma then I recommend that you drink a TON of water before and after, eat a good healthy meal before and after, and avoid donating after eating anything fried or greasy because that junk will actually show up in your blood!

I'm a game tester. Nothing special. I sit and play Madden '13 all day. :|
I'll be moving to the Sims though, testing the next expansion pack. Or the store items. Not sure which.
