"Something with a fixed schedule. A certain amount of hours at a certain time. Preferably days. I'm willing to work even fast food if it keeps us a float," Billy said, nudging Ladon with his shoulder at the 'us' part. But hr made a face, "Granted, fast food is my absolute last resort. I probably wouldn't last long in it before someone ended up with their food in their face, or their little bratty, annoying, spawn curb stomped."

Billy, a closet fan of fast burgers and fries, had sat in on his share of watching customers be total asshats to employees. Honestly he didn't think he had the calm, nor was his pride that beaten down, for him to put up with that. He wanted something at least a little more respectable. There'd always be a*****e customers, but... Well...fast food just seemed to get a whole different BRAND of assholes. And that was something, coming from someone who might as well hold the title of King of All Asses.

At least he admitted he had issues with people. Sort of. He was a little disappointed his artistic ability had been glossed over. Granted he hadn't done much but sketch since Ladon and his' prior break up. He just hadn't been able to bring himself to do anything. He roughed out a sketch for the odd dollar here and there while he was attending school but... Oh well. He wasn't going to bring it up again, lest anyone think he was trying to steal the spotlight for talent. And he wasn't, not really. Oh well.

"And I wouldn't mind saving up enough to do something for Ladon every once in a while," He gave Ladon a smile with..maybe just a slight tinge of mischief in it. Oh, he'd just let Ladon wonder what kinds of 'something' Billy had in mind. Granted they were surprisingly clean somethings...(like a trip to the zoo...) Ladon didn't have to know that. He'd let the boy's mind fill with whatever possibilities he could imagine.

"I was looking at courses online for getting my GED. From there.." He shrugged his shoulders. "I don't know yet. I'd like having a job where I could work outside, but most of those are like...heavy lifting in construction or something like that. I'm not that strong." He was a lot stronger than he was before, but he wasn't body-builder strong, and he knew he had limitations. "I don't know who'd hire me with.." He gestured vaguely to his face, where his missing eye was. It was a hazard if he had to work a dangerous job that required him to have perfect vision. It would hurt his chances. "I tried being a waiter once and was really bad at it. I guess if I was allowed to move around, I'd be okay. I was just looking at ads for dishwasher or jobs anyone could get." He was limited, but he did have a proposal that he wanted to talk with Billy with. If there was a job listed they thought they were good for, they could always help their chances by teleporting into an office and maybe putting their resumes in the chosen spots. It was worth a try and if it meant helping them land a job, he didn't see any harm in it as long as they were careful.

"After that, I guess I'd see what online college courses would be okay to take. I don't think I could afford college." He was on his own after all and just trying to make ends meet.

As Billy nudged him, Ladon scooted closer still he was side by side. All this talk about the future, how Billy was sacrificing his future, both made him depressed but also made him feel warm inside to have someone that cared. Lightly, he touched the boy's leg and gave it a squeeze before glancing at him and back to Paris. "I'd really just like a paycheck I could live off of without working 3 jobs and being so worn that I didn't feel like doing anything when I went home. I guess I should just focus on my GED for now. If you could help, I'd really like to know what I can do to pass." He really wanted to at least say he completed highschool - even if the last year was online.

He did his best not to butt into the conversation about getting GEDs and going to college and getting jobs and achieving general success in life, deciding that his attention was much rather needed in deciphering the scribbles that had been scratched into the table. He could offer suggestions for jobs, but didn't want to be labeled as insensitive. College and course suggestions from the kid with a double major in rather nerdy subjects. Maybe an offer to let his honors college advisor talk to them? Right, like that wouldn't have any negative effects.

Maybe he was just over thinking things. Paris certainly wouldn't say anything bad about his opinion. And Ladon was polite enough to not do anything to offend him in return, right...? But Billy he was sure would find a way to make him feel like an a**. And he didn't even know why he thought that! He barely even knew the guy, and yet... Something was telling him that the level of snarkiness he could offer was yet to be seen.

Chris tried to ignore the look Paris shot him, not wanting to get into an argument in front of Paris's best friend and his boyfriend. Regardless of what he said though, he was sure that Paris would think of a way to counter him.

"There are scholarships..." he tried, forcing himself to glance up and across the table at them. "Really random ones, too... Like if you're left handed, or a bowling scholarship... you don't even have to know how to bowl! Just... write an essay..."

Okay, those were rather lame ideas and he quickly shut himself up.

Thankfully it wasn't much longer until their pizza arrived at the table. Now he could shove food into his mouth and pretend not to be able to respond.

“Well, you only really missed your senior year, right?” Paris asked. He felt a little excited about the prospect of Ladon finishing up school and getting out in the world, probably because he was so used to seeing Ladon being a hermit in his apartment that any sign of change seemed like his friend might actually be making the effort to have a life again.

“That’s all I missed, so once I actually buckled down and started studying, it didn’t take very long before I was ready for the exam,” he continued. “I worked on it for a few hours most days, and then went to some remedial courses whenever I had time in the morning. The exam is the worst part. I was literally at the testing center all day. It was awful, but I think I did okay. I guess so long as your grades were decent in school, you should be fine once you start studying. It’s not like mine were anything to brag about.”

He paused, unsure what to say to Billy that wasn’t snide or laced with annoyance. Admittedly, he didn’t know him nearly as well as Ladon, so coming up with suggestions and offers of help for him were a bit more difficult.

“Chris is right, though,” he observed, able to tell that his boyfriend was feeling a little awkward and out of place during this part of the conversation. “They have scholarships for just about anything. I’ve been looking at some for dance and for people who speak French, and I mean… there’s some for, like… you know… art, too.”

He spared a look at Billy as if to say “look, I’m trying here.” Not that Paris had ever seen any of his work before—nor had he particularly cared to with the way he and Billy tended to get on each other’s nerves—but he knew there had to be some type of art somewhere see as he’d seen Billy in his dad’s store months ago. Mostly thoughts of Billy just made Paris feel extremely annoyed and irrationally angry, but with his father recently dead he was feeling a little more sympathetic when it came to things that reminded him of his father, and art was definitely one of those things.

He just made sure to keep an irritated frown on his face so no one would think he was growing soft.

“I mean, I don’t know how serious you ever were about it, but it just seems like a waste to give up on something you like doing,” he said, looking between the two across the table. “There are a lot of ways to actually be able to afford putting yourself through school. I know getting a job isn’t always easy these days, but… don’t sell yourself short.”

Now Paris was beginning to feel a bit like one of those lame motivational speakers no one had really cared to listen to back in school. Annoyed with himself, Paris grabbed a piece of pizza to inspect it and make sure it was actually okay to eat.

"I was already going to school on grant money," Billy shrugged, "Its all in how early before the semester you apply, whether or not they'll still have the money to give you..."

Billy picked up a piece of the pizza and gave one more bit-o-verbage before beginning to consume the tasty noms;

"Truth is I haven't done a lot of art since I.....since I started college. Not like I usually do anyway. One - I doubt other people in the apartments would like the rumble of an air compressor sounding at odd moments of the day and night, and two - studying became rather time consuming."

The air compressor comment begged the question - just what kind of art did he do!? A bite of pizza and a sip of his drink later he supplied just that information.

"Airbrushing is expensive, too. Anyway, I don't worry too much about the money to get either of us through school. Rent on the other hand," he laughed a bit. A laugh that was merely half-hearted, "and food. That still warrants getting a job. And honestly I'm willing to do that, so you can focus entirely on school," this was to Ladon, of course, whom he looked at.

There was an unspoken, 'I know you'll be very busy with the Negaverse, you don't need to try balancing school and a job on top of all that.' After all,Bismuthite's job now in the Negaverse was much less time-consuming. It actually allowed for him to have some semblance of a life outside of it. Wolframite though... Well, Billy often worried that Ladon was too far invested in it. But then again, if he was, then wouldn't Billy want for Ladon to have all the experience outside of it that he could get? Well, Billy had thought about it and decided that it was better Ladon not stretch himself too thin. Now, whether or not his superior listened....

Sometimes it was nice to just talk about pointless things, other times it took a bit more patience. Chris did his best not to draw Billy's attention back to the fact that he was apparently 'privileged', glancing at Paris every now and then to distract himself, but also over at Ladon, wanting to make sure Pairs's best friend really was doing okay.

The pizza was pretty good, at least for Chris. He could eat almost anything though, unlike Paris who seemed to nitpick over things every now and then, especially if he didn't know now 'natural' it was, like when it came to fast food, but he seemed to be okay with pizza.

When the waitress came by with the bill, Chris caught her eye and slipped her his card before the others could do anything about it. Yeah, he was 'privileged' but at least he wasn't stingy about it... right?? Unless it came off as wanting to brag, with wasn't his intention at all! He was allowed to throw his money around and not be a jerk about it! Ugh!

"Like I said," he said across the table to Billy as he scribbled his signature on the receipt and took his card back. "I can talk to my mom if you want... She's got a hand in most of the art galleries around the city, and she's always looking for new artists to sponsor... I don't know if she knows any other airbrush artists, but if she knows any directors who are looking for that..." he added with a shrug. He knew it was tough being an artist. His mother told him all the time. She'd gone to school for art, after all.

"I'm ready to go when you are," he said with a small smile towards Paris, waiting for the cue to get up to leave. "Billy, it was nice meeting you. And seeing you again, Ladon."

(( Eep! It's been so long! I hope you don't mind me wrapping this up! Just another post or so from everyone should do it? <3 ))
