Study report - Splicing C. reinhardtii with Oddish for the production of Hydrogen through photosynthesis.

[Though concise in its wording the report goes on for many pages detailing the background of and basis for the study, the methodology from start to finish - which includes many false starts and dead ends - the results, and the conclusion.

The critical points are are follows:

  • The basic splicing of C. reinhardtii and Oddish was successful (after many failed attempts) though the use of gene guns.
  • Photosynthesis in the specimen now creates Hydrogen rather than Oxygen.
  • The efficiency of the photosynthetic process has been boosted through bioengineering to 20%, twice what is considered economically viable.
  • With a stable specimen produced the subject was further engineered to increase the surface area of its leaves relative to its body.
  • Given the efficiency of production it would be possible to fuel all of Team Rocket's vehicles with Hydrogen. This would of course require significant capital in converting the vehicles to run on Hydrogen, if this is not desirable the Hydrogen could be sold for a high margin of profit due to the disparity between the efficiency of this production method and anything known to the outside world.
  • Further refinements and increases in efficiency are quite possible with investment in further research, however even as it stands the researchers consider the project a success.
