Languid, spellbound, weak-minded. Easily attracted and easily led, Wandering Eye thinks he is following his own nose without realizing he has been bent to someone else's will. Beautiful things, words, ideas, and kin catch his gaze and he can't let them go.

Wandering Eye is one half of the Narcissus couple from the 2013 V-Day event. The 'real' Narcissus is All the Pleasures while Wandering Eye is the reflection. There were so many incredible entries for him, and I can't give enough thanks to the lovely and talented Duke of Donut for her color work on our entry. I did the monochrome top half and some really barebones lineart for the bottom half - Donut did the amazing bright colors in the reflection. Thanks so much to the staff for putting on this event for all of us!

Originally the picture was done as part of a small art contest for the 2012 Winter Giftbox event. The concept was 'swamp in the winter', and my entry was kinda based on the idea of a wendigo where a creature with a howling voice can be heard over the din of a winter blizzard. I wanted to get a custom based on it but was gonna wait until I had more gold... until Donut got to the bribe first! sweatdrop Thank yoouu!
The madness in her name refers to wendigo psychosis, a culture-bound syndrome. Sufferers resort to cannibalism even when there is other food sources available (most certainly a taboo in the plentiful swamp).

At first glance, or maybe from a distance, petite little Bird seems fragile and demure with her long hair and tail. Don't be fooled. There is a wiry toughness below her skin, both in body and mind. Lean legs and hard hooves travel great distances over the salt marshes that she calls her home, a land owned by the tides, saturated with undrinkable water and choked with razor-edged grass. Motherfather bless the kin who wanders here without a keen eye - the caiman and cottonmouth are plentiful.
Her intense assertiveness is unmarred by vanity and tempered with circumspection. Feelings don't often factor into her decisions, and when she wants something, she will get it. Her hide is marked and ragged from what she says are razorgrass kisses, but that's only a half-truth.

Tall, dark, handsome, with a silky smooth coat and a voice to match. But there's a catch. A few of them, actually. Conversations with him can be... difficult. Nothing doesn't really talk so much as he does grunt in a strange, guttural kind of way. It's not that he can't talk but rather that he is talking, in his own way. A real lucky kin might get some words out of him, maybe. He also has this thing about being seen. He hates it, hates being looked at. A casual glance can spook him; an outright stare provokes sudden and intense anger. The whole package makes for a pretty unfortunate first impression.
Nothing's territory is shaded in the perpetual twilight of choking vines. Overgrown strangler figs borne on the branches of once-great cypress trees blot out the sun. Narrow pathways snake between prop roots and tangles of thorns. From the outside it looks as if a once beautiful grove had fallen into a state of neglect. Look closer. Flowers bloom in patches of sun, carefully tended and weeded. Branches that would block trails are nipped away. A sense of order runs through the place. There is a caretaker, but good luck meeting him. Rumors say that it's just a shade.
