"Andy!" Tali cried as she fell forward on the couch, her hands going immediately down to keep her from faceplanting in the cushion. She watched the other woman quickly exit and the room to her door close. What had happened? Things had happened so fast...she had been sure Andy was about to kiss her and for some reason that didn't bother Tali at all...of course she just would have kissed her mask...which was awkward, but...

Tali blinked several times trying to keep tears that were suddenly whelming up. Why was she so upset? It's not like...she loved Andy...but then why had being in Andy's arms felt so right? She shook her head and got up going to her little area. She pulled the blind across and laid down on her cot wrapping her arms around herself.

She thought over the last few minutes and tried to make sense of what happened. It was obvious Andy was...at the very least attracted to her, it was hardly the first time though, nearly everyone was attracted to the mystery of the Quarians. Tali felt though that seeing what was under her mask wasn't what Andy was after...Andy she was nearly sure wanted to protect her...in fact that was pretty obvious. But the real question now was how did she, Tali, feel about that...

The next few days passed in what could only be considered awkward silence. Andy kept mostly to herself during that time, confining herself to her room and only coming out to either leave for work or cook which then resulted in her retreating to her room with the meal.

She wasn't sure why she was doing this. She knew for a fact that it was hurting her, driving this wedge between her and Tali, but she was afraid...afraid of what she might say or do if she let herself act normally around the other woman. It wasn't fair and it wasn't right, but Andy didn't know what to do otherwise. Her own family wasn't much help...the women in her family were notoriously bad at romantic advice, having stumbled mostly into their present relationships completely on accident, and after a lot of trial and error.

Andy caught her reflection in a window at work and sighed. How sad was this? Big burly Andy, scared of a girl she could pick up with no effort at all.

Tali was in her own little world of misery. She knew things would be different after...the incident, but she hadn't realized how much Andy would suddenly alienate her. She'd figured the big woman would have laughed and shrugged it off, but instead she'd retreated into herself. Tali had been alone before, but she'd never felt so utterly abandoned.

She wondered if she should leave, but was reluctant to do so. Andy had done so much for her, no matter what was going on at the moment and it felt like a slap in the face to just walk away. Tali steeled herself, she was just going to have to do something daring, something bold. It wasn't that she hadn't done things like that before, they just made her uncomfortable deep down. She always had this feeling she was going to let people down, and if not them...herself.

Tali glanced over at the clock. Andy would be home in an hour, that wasn't a lot of time for Tali to prepare herself but it would have to do. "Get ready, Andy Clarke, I'm coming for you." she said quietly to herself.

Andy dragged herself into the apartment. She was feeling a little under the weather. She was definitely going to call in tonight at the bar, no way she wanted to stand around for three hours sorting out drunks. She dropped her work bag and then shuffled towards the fridge to pull out something for dinner. She didn't even notice Tali come out of her little area and make a beeline for the kitchenette.

Andy had just opened the door to the fridge when a delicate, three fingered hand slammed into the door, shutting it. Andy blinked and turned to look over at Tali. Her eyes narrow behind the mask. "Wha--?"

"We need to talk, you bosh'tet." Tali said keeping her hand on the door, not just to keep Andy from hiding in the fridge, but for support as well. There had always been something reassuring about being able to feel the hum of machinery under her hand, and while the fridge was no ship, it would do.

"I can't deal with this oppressive atmosphere you've created around the apartment, and I know you can't either. It's hurting us both!" she saw Andy wince and her eyes glance away, but before Tali could turn Andy's face back to her's, they were back. "I know you have feelings for me, Andy, and I don't know how I feel about that yet," she resisted the urge to start wringing her hands. "But I do know that we can't keep avoiding what happened. We need to clear the air so to speak." she took a deep breath before her next sentence. "Or I could leave." she said.

Andy looked thunderstruck. Leave? Tali leave!? The thought made her start to panic internally. "Please don't!" she said quickly. She laid back her shortened ears her eyes wide and pleading. "I'm sorry, Tali! I am...I just," she paused. "I didn't know what to do. You've obviously had a lot going on and I didn't want to make things more complicated. I just wanted...to protect you." Andy said blushing slightly feeling embarrassed.

"Yes...I like you, a lot. Maybe even love you, but," she let out an explosive sigh. "I'm afraid of what might happen. The women in my family are not...actually we're pretty terrible at romantic relationships. I don't want to hurt you. I couldn't stand it if I did." Andy shrugged. "I guess I thought that if pulled away everything would fix itself" she looked down at the floor and scuffed a foot.

Tali blinked several times. Of all the silly, sweet, and halfway romantic things she'd ever heard, Andy's little speal took the cake. She reached over and took the other woman's hand and squeezed it gently. "You know, I never said I was opposed to the idea of," she hesitated. "Us. Do you really think I would let you hold me and come that close to kissing me if I didn't want you too? No matter how strong you think you are, I could have gotten away. I'm no push over either, Andy Clarke."

She reached up and ran a hand along the side of Andy's face. "Just, give me some time, but I'm willing to let you try and win my heart if you think you can." she said with a smile and hint of challenge.

Andy glanced up as Tali touched her face, her eyes meeting the bright blue eyes behind the mask. There was a sparkle to them, Tali wasn't messing with her, she was really willing to let Andy try and win her over. "I know you're not." Andy said with half smile. It was always the little ones you had to watch out for in a bar fight. Andy may have the reach on her, but she had no doubt that Tali had the flexibility.

"I promise not to freak out like that again. It was pretty stupid of me actually." she caught Tali's hand and brushed the tips of her fingers against her lips. "Forgive me?"

Tali shivered as Andy gently kissed her finger tips. She couldn't feel it through her suit but the meaning was enough to trigger a response. "Yes. If you ever do though, I know where I can get a shotgun." she laughed a bit and to ruin the moment her stomach growled. "Sorry...I was so worked up earlier I haven't eaten anything."

She let go of Andy's hand and stepped back letting the other female have run of the kitchen. "I was worried you were going to get mad at me." her wrung her hands and glanced up at Andy. "I'm relieved you didn't."

Andy chuckled, she had no doubts about Tali's ability with the gun. Andy's were passable at best. Her real skill was hand to hand fighting. She laughed again when Tali's stomach rumbled. "Well I can fix that." she turned to the fridge and finally opened the fridge and rummaged around. She almost grabbed a beer but passed over it, instead pulling out pork cutlets and a thing of mashed potatoes.

"Why would you think I would get mad at you?" She set the food on the counter and ducked down grabbing a frying pan and a pot. "I don't think you said anything particularly worth getting mad over. I was acting like a tool and you told me so." she moved around the kitchen getting supplies then returned to the stove placed in the center island and turned it on. "Although...what is a bosh'tet?"

Tali coughed and felt her cheeks heating. "It's a Quarian word, loosely translated it means a number of derogatory insults either pertaining to status of birth or attitude." she moved around the island to sit in one of the bar stools to watch Andy cook. The femme was very good with her hands as she deftly cracked eggs and whipped them up with some milk to make a base for the chops then quickly coated them in crumbs before tossing them in the frying pan.

Of course there was not only that, half the projects around the apartment were so tiny in scale that Tali would have had a hard time doing them herself, and her hands were half the size of Andy's. Absently she wondered, if given the chance, how those fingers would do getting her out of her suit. Tali would have to help her of course, no one did very well the first time they took off their enviro suit the first time, but Andy was a fast learner...the thought of those fingers slipping inside her suit and brushing against her going down, and then...

Tali cut off that train of thought and was again thankful for the fact no one could see how red she was. "Thank you." she mumbled as Andy set down a plate in front of her and started in on it. Andy always remembered to run it through the array before giving it to her.

"So you called me a b***h?" Andy snorted. "I deserved it." she quickly breaded the chops then dropped them in the pan letting them start to fry, then emptied the container of mashed potatoes into the pot and started heating them up.

She glanced over at Tali and wondered what she was thinking about as she'd gone very quiet. From experience that usually meant the other femme was thinking about something anyway, she could be wrong. She quickly flipped the chops and gave the potatoes a quick stir. She then plated part of what she'd made and set it in the array for Tali, leaving hers in the pan. She'd learned early on that the array finished cooking things due to the lasers and the level of cleanliness that Tali needed for food. There had been some awkward first meals where things had been not only a little over cooked but nearly inedible.

When the plate was finished Andy pulled it out with a sterile mitt and put it in front of Tali who suddenly seemed to come out of whatever she was thinking about and mumble a thank you. "Welcome." Andy replied pulling her own food out of the pans. She did notice Tali's ears had gone slightly pink. What could have embarrassed Tali that much? Not that it was hard...Andy had found that embarrassing the Quarian was a pretty easy feat, and an adorable one as well. She declined to ask though and moved to the other bar stool and began to eat.

Having sorted things out, Tali was happy to see things go back to normal. Well almost normal, there were some small changes now. Andy was certainly open with her affections. There was casual contact between them that would make Andy smile, and her blush. Tali would also find little notes sometimes in the oddest of places, the odd part was that she never actually saw Andy hide them. Even if they didn't make any sense Tali still horded them, keeping them in a corner of a drawer in her chest of drawers.

Tali was finding that it was easy to come to terms with her own feelings, Andy was patient with her, never gave her more attention than she asked or felt comfortable. Tali was stumped at what to do to show that she was reciprocating Andy's affections. From what she understood of human courtship Andy was definitely the "male" figure making her the "girl" not that she had a problem with that. But what to do...well there was one thing...

Andy came home a little early from the lab and dropped her bag. She was feeling a bit sticky and stiff and decided to head for the shower. "I'll make dinner in a bit Tali. Feelin' a little gross, gonna hit the showers." She started off towards the bathroom stripping off her shirt and dropping it on the floor.

She waited for the water to get warm then stepped in letting the stress from the day wash away with the water. "Hmmm," she moaned softly turning in the warm water. She closed her eyes and let her mind drift. It wasn't until the water started to cool that she figured it was time to get out.

Tali looked up from using her omnitool to read a book. It was a rather cumbersome process, she had to first tap into wireless, let her omnitool translate everything to something she could read, then find something she thought would be interesting. Despite all that it was worth it though, even if sometimes things didn't translate well and she had to sit and figure out what something was supposed to mean.

"That's fine, Andy." she called not sure if the other femme even heard her. When she came home Andy did have a tendency to tunnel vision and only extreme circumstances caused her to notice anything else. She let her omnitool fade out then got up and went to find whatever piece of clothing had been shed on Andy's way to the bathroom. Odds where if she didn't, Andy would trip over it tonight or in the morning when she got up for work.
