Every shot he fired only served to make Gale feel that much better somehow. Being back in the Sahara made him remember things he didn't want to, pulled up the black, dark memories that he had forced down for months - and every time he pulled the trigger, it was as though he were taking down one of the memories in turn, shooting away the pain of remembering.
I don't want to feel anything.

Heaven help them. This was perhaps too much action right away for her but luckily Hadjoc seemed to take the mental wheel. Was this bond... much better than she thought it was? Maybe the grisly monster had no feelings to share when she was lonely and scared but he had the right idea on what to do when the going got tough. Mercedes had never felt so hot blooded in her life, not even when they were fighting the yeti. All she wanted.. was to keep shooting.

It was hard to ignore the searing burn coming from Kouki's FEAR shield now, but Madison gritted her teeth and forced herself forward. One foot landed in something soft and squishy, but she pushed off and sliced off a leg from the nearest massive, writhing bug. More foulness sprayed forth, but this time it seemed almost... almost soothing...
It's a different sort of chemical!!
It clicked, suddenly. Maybe science class had been good for something. Just a tiny bit. "I remember! They must be opposites, so... so the other one, I have to hit the other one now! That's how it works-"

The centipede Ennéa had attacked spewed some sort of icky spittle at them. It bubbled and hissed on her fear shield in an alarming fashion. Some sort of corrosive?
Attack the other one! Baraz yelled suddenly in her mind.
Ennéa hesitated. "What? Why?"
Just listen to me for once! He snapped.
Ennéa frowned rebelliously but she started running at the other centipede. She had quickly lost track of Maddie but as she got closer she noticed her friend was attacking the other centipede too.
Ennéa went to swing her axe but tripped on something and she stumbled and nearly fell. Body part. Her mind quickly blanked that out. The spittle was really beginning to burn now.
Keep trying! Baraz urged her.

Sasha's second attempt went better. She dove in low, her partner's hooks lashing out, sinking into the carapace of the beast. It was a sickly pleasant noise, one that Sasha relished, and she couldn't stop the smile that ghosted across her lips.
Nona's voice, singing praise, was lyrical and pleasant. Proud. It had only been a minor hit, but Sasha was going to relish the small moment of pride she felt for herself. Everything seemed to be going smooth, and as Sasha ripped the hooks from the belly of the beast, she couldn't help but think about how satisfying the small attack had felt.

The crack of bones and Marcus felt a chill go up his spine. He stepped on something soft and he didn't need to look down to know what it was. The dead body of a fallen hunter. Ringing was in his ears as he heard the shouts of others, the cry of the creatures and yet-
Marcus, I am here. I will not leave you. Now fight my Marcus. Fight and survive.
Dis was keeping him grounded. Focused. Distracting he might normally be, the former vampire was no longer joking, no longer mocking. He was reassuring, soothing. His presence offering a small familiarity to keep Marcus from cracking. He guided him, telling him which one to follow, to go for. Where to swing, to jump back as the thing spit at him.
Dis was there, and he'd not abandon Marcus and for the moon trainee, that was all he needed.

And then everyone else pretty much boiled out of the portal and started attacking the centipedes while Tedan was ... recovering. The Sun trainnee jumped back up to his feet and went after the same one again, yelling something more like a battle cry this time.

Bix could hear his FEAR sheild sizzling but he could see what was happening from observing others. He'd only been so-so at science but he did have eyes and he could tell that he needed to hit the other centipede if he wanted to not soon be feeling ill effects.
The archer let fly another volley, hitting the twin centipede with another volley.

Jude gathered himself up again and then lunged forward at the first target and this time he managed to strike home with his daggers. He paused and noticed something nice and acidic which made him very unhappy for the most part.

Sherry stood for just a moment, wondering what was coating her. Armagnac hissed. Acid? As in, it would burn through her shield? Sherry gulped. There was no way to combat that. Not really...it was everywhere.... Keep fighting. The other, it is near!> Sherry didn't argue. If she was going to burn, well then, whatever. She took her blade, and swung it at the other creature, feeling rather satisfied when she connected. "Hah!" Michael was just about to strike at another centipede, he wasn't really sure which was which at this point, when a sudden burning sensation caught him off guard, causing him to stumble.
"OW ******** style="color: lightblue">Its the goop! It's eating our shield- Jack !Michael GET IT OFF!>>
That was easier said then done as Michael attempted to wipe some of it off in the sad only for it to cling to him instead.
He hissed out, no use for it but to keep attacking and hope that it stopped.

This was ridiculous, but Candace did notice something.
When she attacked one centipede the spit neutralized the burning of the other.
So she attacked the other one. Again.

Clerise stepped through the portal and into a disaster, red eyes scanning the field.
Two monsters.
She could work with this, she guessed. Fortunately for her, in the fray, no one would really be able to tell that she lacked a very key part of her ensemble: Balthazar.
Instead, Clerise merely lunged at the first creature-- it writhed out of the way, ignoring her entirely.
Nothing like being useless.

When he hit the thing, it pretty much sprayed some kind of gross s**t all over him and Tedan yelped, jumping back a bit.
The Sun trainee nodded at that and turned to rush toward the opposite centipede, raising Arda for another attack. And he hit again. Yes! If he could just keep this up ...
