So, sparring again? When he saw the boil stepping into the circle he got that all too familiar feeling in the pit of his stomach. Desire. Spreading...coursing through him. There was something about him that made Yin identify him as an equal. He was only too happy to fight again.

The first blows traded were mostly dodged, but they seemed even. It was a good spar, lasting for quite a while as the pair dealt blows and received them in turn. They used the same base strategy but different moves, and Yin found himself picking up on a few new tricks.

The spar was beginning to drag on and Yin was beginning to feel tired. But the Horseman was as well. Both of them began to slow gradually, becoming slower in the process. They traded blows continually, both too stubborn to fall.

Finally the horseman managed to successfully kick him back with a sidekick, knocking him down and out of bounds. The match over, he helped him up and seemed to be respectful about it in the process. A far cry from the contempt he had earned from some horsemen.

Round 1 - Lose. +1 Horsemen point

The Toxic Cave

Sometimes you just end up in places not really… good for scaring. Or just not good for one’s health. Which oddly enough, can be a toxic cave filled with noxious gas. Sent down an elevator, students wait at the bottom as they are sealed in. Even those who can fly find they must go down…to get back up. Several outposts exist in the cavern to make sure that no one ends up dead, horsemen having taken a certain mixture that allows them temporary immunity. A clank and a light purple gas starts to fill the room. The test has begun, so students better start to run!

Quote:
Rules:
-Running out of HP means game over, regardless of any saves you might have
-If your student falls into two or more of the automatic HP reductions, please only apply one! You may ignore the others.
-If you use a save start at the place you left off

Stage 1
RNG 1-3 in your FIRST post. Subtract one to see how many lives you have. (IE get a 2, subtract 1 you have 1 save)

Stage 2

Running, the hall ends in a pit. You need to descend into the thick of the poison haze to go further. But- it’s hard to see where it might be safe. Thick ropes hang from the ceiling and rocks just from the sides. Roll 1 d4 to advance!
1- You grab the rope and slide your way down but ouch! Rope burn! -5 HP
2- You try to go down the walls… and make it! Better move though the gas is thick down here!
3- You jump down… not the best idea. -10 HP
4- You try the walls but miss a step falling and knocking you out (Fail)
If your a student that can fly/has wings in any form, you take an automatic -5 HP

Stage 3

Running down yet another hall, you have to dive into a pool of dark water and swim through a tunnel.
Roll 1 d6 to see what happens.

1- You manage to swim quickly and reach the other side just in time!
2- Fish bones dig into you, slowing you down and making you swallow some water! -10 HP
3- Weird. It feels like- Uh oh. You somehow managed to end up at a dead end. No time- you fall back and let the gas overtake you(Fail)
4- Something brushes past your body but lucky enough, you make it to the other side.
5- You try swimming up too soon and bump your head! -5 HP
6- Something bit you, but you can’t tell what, -5 HP
If your student is aquatic, or fire based -5 HP automatically

Stage 4

The path seems to be getting smaller, looks like you’ll have to crawl you way out but- which path do you take? Roll 1 d8.
1 and 3- You run into a spider who bites you for a nasty sting! -10 HP
2 and 4- You end up taking a wrong turn and hit your head! -10 HP
5 and 7- You managed it somehow to crawl you way to the next room, which has yet to be filled with that gas or…
6 and 8- You get lost and get…sleepy… (fail!)
If your natural form is bigger than that of a dog, take -5 HP

Stage 5
The last part of the tunnel! You can see light at the end but-
It seems that in order to get there, you’ll have to beat the doors that are closing, trying to trap you in the poison caverns! Just as you make it to the end- the door slams down, leaving you stuck. You’ll have to break your way through!
Roll to attack! For each miss -10 HP, you may keep going until you break free or pass out.
For year 3, you must subtract versus the normal 6! It seems the horsemen expect a bit more from you.

It was time. It was almost time to head back to Amityville. The notice had come in that day that they would be able to get an escort back 'home'. Alex was eager to get back to the school, back to his books, back to having some amount of privacy, back to delicious delicious restaurant prepared food that he could not afford...

Back to normalcy, really.

Though he had oddly enjoyed his time spent on the war island, and had found out a lot about himself that he hadn't known before, it would be nice to spend a quiet couple of days with Yin before being thrown back into another foreign land.

Before they could leave this place, however, there was something that they both had decided to do again, though Alex didn't really feel like he needed to after the first time.

"Are you really sure you want to try this again? After last time..." Alex said, as the elevator made it's descent.

The mantodae was already busy securing his goggles on. "I do not see why not. If nothing else we will be returning soon to Amityville and it would be a good opportunity to rest up." He gave Alexander a small smile. "I am sure that you will do well again." Not breathing certainly helped when it came to noxious fumes.

Running down the tunnel.

Well, no, walking at a hastened pace down the tunnel. Yin could do all of the running he wanted, Alex was having none of it.

Oh look, a pit! Just like the one from the first time they had done this! Surprise, surprise.

Don't breathe, don't talk, just do what everything the same as last time, which meant climbing down the walls, since that had worked out well the time before.

Somehow, however, Alex's hand slid off of one of the rocks and he began to fall...

...He started to fall, but then he caught himself, grabbing ahold of another rocky ledge.

That had been a close one!

Making his way down, no worse for wear, Alex stood at the bottom of the pit, completely unscathed though maybe a little rattled from his near death experience.

Yin went a bit faster than Alexander, trying to stay ahead of the gas. It affected him, and he did not appreciate the gas as it filled his lungs and made it ache to breathe. But he still found himself lingering at the pit, needing to make sure that Alexander was fine.

They started down the wall together, and this time he avoided the painful vines, going directly for the wall. He could see Alexander start to slip, adrenaline racing, but Alexander caught himself and they both made it safely down to the bottom of the pit.

Alex knew what was coming next, and he was already dreading it. That dark lake that he had to walk along the bottom of, unable to see anything around him and having to rely on instinct alone to tell him that he was even trudging along in a straight line.

He didn't hesitate, though, just walked straight into the lake, knowing that the sooner he got through this course, the better.

He was actually started on the incline back upwards, thinking about how he would need to be careful this time in order to not hit his head on the rocky tunnel ceiling when he came back out of the water, when something sharp dug painfully into his side. Instinctively, his mouth came open as though to shout in pain, but instead he found his lungs filling painfully with water.

Panicking now, he moved forward, making his way out of the lake and only opening his mouth again when he emerged, pounding a fist against his chest and coughing up the lungfuls of dark, disgusting water.

In the murky darkness of the water it was hard to see...well anything really. The goggles helped to keep the water from his eyes, but they did little to help him actually see. Unable to really tell were the walls were he kept moving ahead and wound up swimming up a little too far, knocking his head into the top of the tunnel.

Wincing he pressed on, emerging from the tunnel only to see Alexander coughing up a fairly significant amount of water. He did not want, or need to speak too much with the quality of air but he tentatively placed a hand on his arm, just trying to get some sort of acknowledgement that the zomboil was alright.

It took some time to clear his lungs of the water that filled them, and in that time he had managed to suck in some of the gas in the air. That made his already burning lungs feel so much worse, and his eyes were beginning to water ever so slightly. Still, when Yin reached out to place a hand on his arm, Alex looked over towards him and forced a smile, trying to look as unaffected by what had just happened as possible, even if it was still incredibly painful.

As though to prove he was fine, He started back on his way through the caves, finding himself back in the area that he had first gotten lost in, and then gotten bitten in, last time. This time, as he crawled along, he chose to try and different route, to see if he might fare any better then the times before.

Eventually he crawled out of the small tunnel, successfully making it through without getting harmed.

Now he just had to get through that stupid door again...

Alexander had made it out on his own last time, and Yin was not going to be foolish this time. No, he was going to follow him, because clearly he knew what he was doing.

And Alexander did. He led them to a room that was mercifully free of the gas and Yin took in several deep breaths. It was only now that he realized that he had been scraped up a bit by the small passage, but it was really nothing in the long run. Now then, what to do, what to do. He looked to Alexander expectantly, ready to leave the cave.

And now this last part again. Oh hey, the door was closing just like it had the time before! That meant it was time to pick up the pace, right? There was still the smallest chance of getting through that open door without having to break it open, wasn't there?

Alex looked over at Yin, grinned, and started on his merry way, starting at a quick amble that soon picked up the pace into a light jog, faster and faster until he was actually running. Yep, running, again, for the third time in his unlife without falling flat on his face. He still didn't exactly have the stopping part down pat but he was sure if he got to that door at the time that it had closed again, he could easily bust through it as he had the time before. That just seemed like an awfully inconvenient thing to do, though.

Somewhere in the back of his mind he wondered why he was running alone, and Yin wasn't up here beside him.

Well, no time to go back and get him now!

Like the kool-aide man, Alex burst through the door, which had closed on him again just as he had predicted it would, with a shower of wooden stakes and splinters and a zombie that tumbled out onto the ground, resting on his back and staring up at the sky far above, nearly hidden by jungle growth and greenery.

Rockin the toxic gas cave, part two.

Yin started after Alexander, seeing the door beginning to close, seeing Alexander beginning to speed up. He had never really seen the zomboil run and it was distracting enough that he hesitated just a split second.

And the gas overtook him. The purple fumes crept into his lungs and he doubled over, coughing, trying to do anything to clear his lungs and it burned the oxygen from his body. Alexander was busting through the door and he stumbled forward but another door was swinging closed already and it was all he could do to place a hand on it. Trapped.

No no no no no no no.

He could not be trapped in here. He could not let the fumes creep into his lungs again, not let them knock him out. He was going to be stronger this time and he was going to fight through it. He raised a fist to pound on the door but only feebly knocked on it. Alexander was on the other side already. At least he would be spared this.

His lungs burned.

Alexander was right there. On the other side of the door. And he was sitting there like he was going to let some sort of poisonous gas knock him out for a third time. The hunter in the wardrobe. The hunter in the trails. The cave before.

This was not acceptable. He was not this weak to just accept this. He took a single step back and then kicked it, bashing it in and stumbling out into the light, gasping in the clean air. But he had passed. He had done it and with that knowledge he was ready to head back to Amityville.
