Tambrey frowned subtly at those words. 'Hard to watch someone else doing what you love'. This made sense but it rather gave away that perhaps he hadn't had much of a choice in leaving his profession. ... And, as he spoke of Kanto, she couldn't help but ask. "... So. What... led you to being here then?" Her voice taking on a gentler tone compared to the whispered excitement of finding out he'd been in contests for a career.

'What led him here?' was a rough one. Rory rolled the events that occurred around in his head as he tried to figure out which explanation to give her. He didn't think she would be interested in hearing the long version of the story, so he decided to go with the simplest reason he had quit being a contest competitor.
"My pokemon...She got hurt pretty bad. I took her back into the arena once about a year or so later and she couldn't do it," he wished he could erase all of the footage from that night; he hoped that wasn't one of the Kanto competitions she had seen.
"She tried her best, but it was better to take her out and stop competing than to risk her."

"Oh no! She's alright now?" Sure, he had the pink Ponyta, but she didn't know if he might be talking about another pokemon or not. Besides, humans could get away with carrying a lot of weight here, with pokemon providing help enough even in limited capacities. She was always aware that she, herself, seemed rather under-powered with her pokemon compared to some, and yet they were always a help on missions. It didn't seem like she'd seen that footage- yet anyway. "I think 't was a wise move, but... I'm sorry. I can see why watching them would be hard now."

"She's still going through physio for her leg but she's almost back to normal," he had been impressed with how Pinkie had dealt with the raid. Even though she had to have been hurting during the battle, she still took his weight and carried him without a second thought.
Rory smiled softly, "It's been hard adjusting but she likes it out here, though, especially when she gets to meet new people."

"That's good to hear." Tambrey smiled at the news. With no suggestion otherwise, she was coming to the conclusion, based on his language, that he only had the one pokemon after all. And she already knew that that pokemon was the pink ponyta. "She was a pleasant sight t' see, you know; well, you all were." The grunt returned to her smirk. "Hm. I'd guess she would. For a bunch of criminals, we've got a lot of people worth knowing." She'd altered the sentence midway, as it had began to leave her mouth, she'd intended to end it with 'nice people', but that just didn't sound fitting.

"I'm sure anyone not in a Galactic uniform was a pleasant site to see after being there that long." He couldn't imagine being trapped on that ship like they all had been.
Criminals, Rory guessed she was right, that's what they were now. "Sometimes I think some of them here are better than some of the people I used to know." Opposing contest participants could be cruel, especially with how they treated their pokemon. At least the people he had met here so far seemed to understand the bond between trainer and pokemon.

Tambrey nodded and glanced to the ceiling for just a moment. "You'd be right there..." It had been an almost unbelievable thing, suddenly rescued. Even if it had been a journey to actually get out. "And, exactly, we're a pretty odd bunch. 'S sometimes easy t' forget what we do even. Sometimes." Not always, definitely not always. There was a flicker in her expression but it was soon gone again. "Anyway... So. What's it like in here? Aside from the meds providing some fun? Because if it's boring, I can always bring, or smuggle, a request or two where I can." Her voice had gone conspiratorial again. She liked 'Rory' (though Roranicus was still a fun name), he seemed... easy to get along with, and decided it would be nice to be able to offer such a thing.

Rory wondered what had happened to her during her time with the team. One day he'd have to ask her about what it was like then. She was right though, sometimes it was easy to forget what exactly they did for a living.
Yeah the medication totally led to 'fun' times. "Considering what happened when I woke up, I don't know if I'll be taking anything from that nurse again," hopefully they had something he could take for the pain that wouldn't leave him high as a kite.
Hummm...What could he have her bring down to him? It did get boring without anyone to talk to. "I've got a small game system in my room, if you wouldn't mind," he thought about what else he had brought with him; he didn't have too much that he brought with him when he moved.
"And maybe....some of those contest magazines?" He could at least try to get up to date on what the few participants he had been friendly with were doing.

"Well I wouldn't be /too/ hasty. Burn pains aren't generally known f'r being friendly enough off of the pain help... That stuff might be the best available. I respect that it can't be nice to have a mind wander without permission though."
Tambrey's smile went from cautious but friendly, as she gave the advice, back to a genuinely pleased, gracious expression; she was glad of the chance to help. "Room number? I assume I'll knock and y'r room mate'll answer? And.. Sure. I'm... kind of obviously missing the last month, but I've got most everything from the winter seasons; holiday editions weren't bad." She noted, then quieted before she revealed anything- it would be more interesting for him just to read it and see for himself.

"Maybe they'll have something that won't have me out of it, though. Could you imagine if one of the higher ups came in while I was like that?" Rory shuddered at the thought.
"My room's all the way down the hall on the left. I was in a hurry before we left so I didn't lock the door so unless my roommate did, you'll probably be able to walk in," he tried to remember if he had left anything out that would be embarrassing for someone else to see, especially one of the girls.
"Any of those would be great."

"Ah. Heh. Yep." Tambrey conceded; a higher up probably wouldn't find 'Simon Says' quite as amusing as someone like her might. "Good point. D'you want me to mention something on the way out, or just send someone over t' you?"
She nodded as he explained his room. "Well, I'll knock first, but if no one's in, I'll go in and get it," She affirmed "And don't worry, I'll bring a whole stack of the magazines. Y'might be in here a few days, right? There's not really such a thing as 'too much' to read. 'S anything else? Messages to pass on, people t' summon, anything more you want me to smuggle in?"

He shook his head, "Nah, I'll let them know when they come in. I'm surprised they haven't yet."
"Thank you," not only had it been nice to share his past with someone but she was willing to help bring his stuff down to him. "and no, I'll be fine. I'm sure anyone else who wants to see me will find me eventually."
"Although," he whispered conspiratorially, "maybe during meal times you could get someone to smuggle me some food?" Hospital style food was not something he was looking forward to.

"Hm. There were a lot of injuries. Lot of Rockets needing different things; probably grabbing a moment t' tend to either other patients or a mountain of paperwork." Tambrey mentally winced at the idea. Lab paperwork existed and that was never fun; she could imagine there might be some crossover in the sort of things the infirmary would keep records on. A tedious job that she didn't envy, nor was particularly looking forward to getting back on top of.
She smiled, though, and nodded her recognition of his thanks. "You're welcome and alright; makes sense."
The other grunt smirked at the last request. "Now, see, /that/ is the one I was waiting for," She teased. "but sure, I'll make sure something nice gets here. Not that there's anything wrong with the cuisine in here; 'm sure it's fine dining." Still teasing, of course; it seemed like some odd tradition or curse that 'hospital' environments and airplanes had to share the position of 'worst tasting foods'. Well, she understood them both really, but that didn't change the way the stuff tasted.

Rory thought over what she said. Everyone who had to deal with the fire moth's blast, everyone that got shot, the new returned Rockets, the staff was probably at their wits end down here. It would probably be a while before he saw any of the medic staff.
At Tambrey's teasing, he laughed. "Oh course. I'm sure it's nothing but the best. Mystery meat that doubles as a potato. How could anyone go wrong with that?" Hospital food was probably the worst; he didn't want to find out what they would serve him while he was in here.

"Not just a potato... It also doubles as several vegetables, a fibre supplement and desert; the jello's actually just antibiotic gel they serve as a 'dessert' t' try and make sure y' eat it." Tambrey probably rather enjoyed the 'joke' a little too much, carrying it a little further than she intended, but after a month locked away, it was nice to have a bit of fun like that. She moved on though to actually promise. "I'll raid a couple of vending machines and see what I can grab from the cafeteria. Any special requests there? I think 's rice pudding day coming up, but I could be off in what day it is..."
