Medicine 101 (skipping arooooound)

The next night, Cheese thought she'd try something a little less...injurious. Basic medical training was secondary to other necessary drone skills, and she barely knew enough to diagnose whether or not she had broken any bones in the fight the night before. Cheese rubbed her bruises and tried to listen to a boring lecture on the virtues of good, sharp saws on the battlefield. Then, to her horror, the instructor pulled aside a sheet on a table to reveal a massive, dead musclebeast.

"Students!" The instructor beamed. "Now it's time for you to practice amputation! But remember to leave some for the next troll in line."

Cheese cringed as she approached the creature. She had no idea how she had failed to notice this smell until now. Nervously she picked up the saw and sheared off a bit of arm. It was actually not as bad as she was expecting...it was a good, sharp saw, after all. She stared at the cut-off stump for a moment before the next troll in line shoved her aside and took the saw. Now there was blood all over her.

Combat 101, take 3

Nelgan wasn't really paying attention when the other drone had hit him; he could say that the other troll's small size had put him at ease, but in reality, he was just spacing out. A dull pain went through Nelgan's body as the practice blade hit him right in his stomach. Chocking slightly, Nelgan stumbled back a bit, then threw his blade up in defense, somehow accidentally blocking Cheese's next attempt at hitting him.

Nelgan vaguely wondered if either of them had listened to the lecture- he knew that he sure hadn't. He could tell that the other drone was no professional either. Unfortunately, Nelgan did know what it was like to be against a real professional, and they usually were a lot more... aggressive than the drone he had been placed up against. Nelgan raised his training blade for some sort of strike and prepared to throw a blow, when suddenly the instructor began shouting angrily.

"Were either of you LISTENING to my INSTRUCTIONS?!" the instructor bellowed, moving toward the two drones and grabbing both their training blades.
"Uh," Nelgan mumbled, feeling very much like he wanted to not be here. Before Nelgan could actually say anything, the instructor kept on yelling and yelling. Nelgan shrunk back, now very concerned for his personal safety. He hoped the teacher wouldn't focus on him specifically, and instead the whole class.

Tactics 101

After her running session, Zeylla decided to take a day training her mind. Tactics attracted her instantly. Her job was to watch another troll and then decide what to do better. Why, that was what Zeylla did best. She was almost smiling when she formed with the rest of the group watching a fight fold out before them. The instructor was talking over the sound of the trolls fighting, rather loudly to the greyblood's displeasure, and she tried hard to tune him out as the battle unfolded.

It was obvious the redblood was losing. Every swing sent his way was met with nervous, over-anticipated blocks that did little to help him from getting clobbered by the blueblood. Zeylla frowned as she watched the nervous brat lift his arm again to try and block his aggressors punch, though he had anticipated another headshot, and squeezed his eyes closed as he covered his face, only to sucker punched in the gut. Why, Zeylla could tell him a million things he was doing wrong.

Not that the blueblood was without fault, she was confident and teasing her opponent, and didn't expect the wild swing from the left when her taunts hit home. The little redblood was angry now and his fist mashed into her face, sending her spinning towards them and--

The blood was all over her face, and Zeylla's eyes grew wide as she opened her mouth like a gapping fish. There was a moment when she seemed to freeze, a look between confused and shocked on her usually stoic face.

Then came the shakes and the sweats and she couldn't think straight and the instructor was still talking so loud like nothing had happened and why wasn't anyone else reacting to this. Zeylla made an odd gurgling noise in her throat that caused eyes to turn to her before she bent over and lost the gruel-like lunch she had received before practice all over the shoes of the girl next to her.

After which she promptly exited the area with shaking palms, her hands wiping at her face before smearing the blue mess on the tents she passed on her way back to her little private area.

Why was she doing this again? She felt so foolish, there was too much blood here. She shouldn't have come-- Stop. There was nothing she could do now, no use complaining. She was here, and she would just have to be more careful next time.

Survival 101: Collab Minist + Talymn (Gal/Dart)

"Welcome to another day of survival training, grunts!" The booming voice of the supervising officer resonated through the small, cramped room far louder than what was probably necessary, but he went on unfazed, completely ignoring the flinches made by those with more sensitive hearing, "We're going to do something a bit different today! Behind me is a new training compound designed for a team building exercise. You will be paired up and be given the objective to take out all enemies you come across! 'Enemies' in this exercise is everyone who isn't your partner! Last team standing earns bragging rights! When you are called, please step forward and take your equipment! Any questions? Good!" He didn't even pause before he started rapping out names, catching the first couple of pairs by surprise.

As the groups were sorted, each troll was given a special breastplate, a holster with a 'Light Activated Sensor Evisceration Ray' included, and a small wrist communicator. In all, there were six teams and one by one, they were sent into the battling arena with a five minute interval between.

Fidgeting with his breastplate, Talymn tugged on the shoulder pads a few times waited impatiently for his and Minist's turn to enter. “ Freakin' mess this is... think they'd be able to come up wit' somethin' more comfy, yeh?” He grumbled, giving up on the pads for now as he slipped his hands into his pockets.

"It's the army, what do you expect?” Minist replied, arms crossed and foot tapping out her growing impatience, ”I hope our turn is soon. I can't wait to blow those suckers away!"

”...Hm...” He grunted in agreement before leaning over to whisper in her ear, ”Could try t'sneak in b'fer the next pair...?”

"Sneak in you say? I like the way you think!" She responded, immediately perking up. ”I’ll open the door while soldier boy has his back turned, then you can sneak in and I’ll follow.” She whispered, gaining a silent nod of approval from Talymn. Looking around to see if anyone was actually paying them any attention, she edged closer to the entrance inconspicuously.

Glad to finally find someone else who wasn't as stiff and anti-fun as the rest seemingly were, Talymn took a quick glance at the others standing behind him, before pulling out his LASER gun, pretending to fumble with it before shooting at one of them, setting off the target on the guy’s breastplate.

“All LASERS are to be kept in their holsters until the operation starts!” the training officer growled, quickly moving over to reset the activated target.

With the distraction in play, Minist edged even closer towards the doorway, placing her hand on the handle as Talymn followed suit. Just as the timer buzzer announced clearance for the next pair, he quickly shoved the ones next in line out of the way and dashed through the doorway, pulling Minist along with him.

"Nice shot!" She snickered as they made their way into the arena. "Now let's find a good hideout before some other team gets it. Don't want to be sitting quackbeasts for when the fun starts."

”Yeh, yeh...” He agreed, trailing after her while humming the Mission Impossible Theme.

Their uncharted course lead them through a maze of open corridors, every so often coming across open areas with various pieces of debris and obstacles that they could use for makeshift cover later when it came to a shoot-out. It was almost like traversing through an abandoned construction lot. For all the trolls knew, it might as well have been.

” .. Should be lookin' fer a higher vantage point…” Talymn mused aloud, scanning the cavern above. It was like staring up into an endless black pit, but the more he stared, he swore he was starting to make out shapes. Wait, there is something! ”That there!” he alerted in a hushed tone, pointing up towards a barely visible piece of scaffolding.

"Looks good to me." The yellowblood said with a nod of approval.

With that, the two quickly made their way towards the structure, quickly climbing up without any hesitation. Minist made it first and she immediately walked to the far end to survey the rest of the arena while keeping her head down. "Not much to see, but we can pick off any movement we spy from up here." she said, removing her gun from its holster and pointing it over in Talymn’s direction just as he hoisted himself up "Easy." She jerked her hand back as though firing the gun.

”Cor... yer like a li'l spider-monkey...” He grunted, pausing as the platform wavered slightly under their combined weight, but stabilised after a few seconds. They'd have to keep from moving around too much. ”So, ya think these things account fer friendly fire..? “ He commented off handedly, spinning his own gun around on his finger.

"If you set off this thing I'm pushing you off." She replied with a smirk, turning her attention back on the arena.

”Try that, luv, an’ we’ll both take a nasty fall, I promise.” he replied back with a smile of his own.

"Just keep watch over there, ok? Don't want anyone sneaking up on us. Think you can handle that? I don't know how good my aim is so I don't want to be bailing your a** out. Then again, if it came to that I could use you as bait and use my 'spider-monkey' skills to get out of fire." she then added with a roll of her eyes, "Joking of course, they'd probably fail me if I did that since this is a stupid teamwork course." What ever happened to each troll for themselves?

Scoffing, Talymn moved over to the other end, holding his gun at the ready as silence settled between them again while they waited. It wasn't long till he was humming to himself again though, this time featuring Metallica's 'Fuel For Fire', tapping his gun on the side of his leg in beat.

"So, music man, since we're sitting here waiting, how's your keytar? They confiscate it yet?" She cooed, glancing over to him again "I saw you during tactics the other night. I don't think the soldiers are music lovers." She snickered.

The tapping stopped and slowly, he turned to look over his shoulder. ”No wonder why ya looked familiar...” He answered testily, not wanting to be reminded of his blunders, ”An' no, guess not... Bunch'a stiffs, the whole lot. Don't get me wrong, o' nothin', I get discipline, I do, but C'MON! Expectin' THAT level o' restraint from the likes o' us, wit' no slack whatsoe'er is juss' stupid! He steamed, rattling on more than what he had intended.

"Well, this is kinda like boot camp. It isn't a vacation." She shrugged. Really, she felt he was rather stupid for thinking they would be O.K. with an impromptu concert in the middle of training. Obviously he wasn't used to being told 'no'. Ah, the luxuries of being a highblood.

As Talymn opened his mouth to reply, the buzzer sounded, catching him off guard. Minist on the other hand was already targeting her first victim and her initial shot went missed. With a curse, she pressed herself down into the thick plywood to avoid a retaliatory shot. Cursing again she took aim once more, this time clipping her target in the side.

”Yes! Got one! She announced, punching the air in victory.

”Well.. damn. First point: Minnie.” He grumbled, focusing back on the arena again. The other half to the one she ousted had to be somewhere close. A sudden movement caught his eye, and he locked onto a troll making a break for it across one of the open areas, but just as he fired, someone else had popped up, targeting the same troll. Before the other gunman could return to their post, Talymn clipped their shoulder, taking them out of the game. “An' that's a tie!”

"Oh, we making it a competition? I can handle that." She responded, sitting up as she scanned for more targets. Now things were getting fun! "I'm about to break that tie." She said as she spied her next victim. Smirking, her gun sights rested on the troll climbing a wall, but almost missed their partner who took a shot at her. "s**t!"

She ducked down, dodging the oncoming shot, only to roll off a little too hard and over the edge. With a cry of surprise, she quickly grabbed onto the scaffolding and swung back onto a lower platform, but not without jerking the whole thing rather violently, sending Talymn into a frenzied state of surprise.

”OYE! OYE! Wotcher doin', Minnie?!” He yelled out, clinging desperately to one of the support beams and losing his gun in the process. As the scaffold began to settle back down again, he slowly tried to move over towards the other edge to check on his partner, "Ya alrigh' down there?! Of all the- OH HELL!” His target system suddenly lit up and beeped a few times, showing he'd been hit. With a frustrated growl, Talymn slammed his fist against the support beam without thinking, ”NOW LOOK WOT YA GONE AN' DONE! Bloody-AGH!” The scaffold started shuddering, swaying dangerously from side to side nearly throwing the rocker troll off his feet. ”IF YER STILL ALIVE DOWN THERE, MAY I STRONGLY SUGGEST ABSCONDIN'!

"QUIT YOUR WHINING!"

With barely seconds to spare, the two raced down the support beams, Minist hitting the ground first with a reckless dive. Looking back, she could easily tell that the structure would not hold out much longer, but Talymn was not as quick to remove himself from the danger.

"Get your butt out of the way before you're grubsauce!" She yelled at him, springing up and grabbed onto his arm to tug him out of the path of the falling scaffold just seconds before it collapsed.

As the dust settled and the daze of their survival lifted from their worries, the two of them just stared at each other for a few long moments. "Don't. Say. Anything." Minist growled finally letting go of his arm. She really didn't need him complaining about how she ruined everything. Talymn was just about to complain anyway when Minist’s targeting system went off. They both stared at the lit beacon, the rocker troll even cracking a smile from the bad timing.

"Well, that's that then." She sighed, pretending to shoot herself in the head with her gun with a smile. "Oh well, it was fun while it lasted."

Maihue was ready for tonight. Mapping was just like stellar mapping, right? Yes, this will be brilliant! Maihue smiled and flushed and started slightly skipping, then realized what she was doing and rushed to the pod docks.

As she got in she saw a map up. What, why so soon..? Maihue quickly took her seat. No one was hear why was it out oh no.. Maihue stared at the map intently hoping it would reveal some map secrets to her. Her concentration was interrupted by the soldiers loud voice, and Maihue jumped a little. Everyone had filled the pod docks without her noticing. She, once again, looked down and started to jot notes as quickly as she could.

As soon as the soldier was done speaking, he had them try to map out a little map of the area of the shelter they were in. Maihue's mine went blank as she tried to draw it out, but finally got the hang of it after awhile. The map wasn't great because she was shaking the whole time, but whatever she had... "succeeded." The soldier then started to speak again after everyone was done, yelling out that they had to draw another map, but this time a lot bigger. Maihue sighed and started to draw things out again. And again, she started shaking. she stopped for awhile and tried to breathe deeply. ...Other trolls started to scoot away from her, BUT THAT WAS OKAY, EVERYTHING WAS ALRIGHT. Maihue tried to put all her focus on the buildings around her, and what was where, who was what things were this... Finally getting to the last part of the map, the soldier barked out that they had to draw the whole shelter. Maihue's lips drew back tightly and she stared at the map paper. She focused on the buildings and what center was where.. once again.

Medicine 101

Tonight was a sewing night. Alifax already didn't like sewing night; he'd never learned how to sew in the first place and anyway – the deceased howlbeasts they were working on smelled terrible. But he was a troll. He could get through this.

He wasn’t sure that trolls were meant to sew, though. He didn’t really need to – his clothing was perfectly functional with a rip or two or twenty in them. And he wasn’t sure that his arm could heal from stitches, were it broken. Could it? He was a little dubious. His history books didn’t talk about this (although of course he didn’t mention this to the class).

He sewed his howlbeast’s chest back together clumsily, hoping that he’d get to see Frossa and Hazzan a little more this morning – or maybe take a class with one of them. They’d mentioned interests in the survival and navigation classes, and he thought one of those would be interesting. If his friends didn’t mind, that was.

Combat 101

After the disaster of last night's laser tag Minist decided to go back to combat. Long range weapons weren't really her thing anyway. At least now she could feel more in her element with close combat. Of course before they started they had to listen to another lecture from their commanding officer. Something about stance and foot position. Who really cared? She wasn't here to be told to keep her center of balance low to the ground. She was here to beat some poor sucker up and let out her aggression over last night's events. She didn't like being eliminated so early in the game. Honestly, yeah, she brought the set scaffolding swaying and let them open to attack, but what was she supposed to do? Fall off and crack her head open? What's that? During her internal fuming they had apparently been teamed up for some skirmishes. Time to unwind.

Survival 101

After the combat incident, Nelgan decided to steer clear of that area of the base. He'd gotten off with a warning (which in truth was very, very loud for a "warning"), and a few hits from the instructor, which was better than what he'd hoped. In fact, Nelgan actually felt like he had learned something, for once. With this irrational sense of optimism that he could be taught, he set off to his next lesson.

Survival sounded pretty good, if only for the fact that it had the word 'Survive' in it. Because that's exactly what Nelgan intended to do. Survive, right? How hard could it be? But training could help, so Nelgan headed off east in the direction of the camp. He'd already been taught the basics of swimming and climbing, but Nelgan could only wonder how the stealth training went. Naturally, that was the first thing the instructor pushed him into. Walking quietly, breathing silently, and observing everything was not something that came to Nelgan naturally, and it wasn't long before he was given several scolding by the instructor. Then he was being pushed into the water, and told to go faster, faster. Nelgan could keep himself from drowning, but the pace of swimming that he was expected to go was beyond him.

"Kick your legs more!" Nelgan heard a teacher call out, and Nelgan furiously beat against the water, his slow pace staying the same. He vaguely wondered if he had wandered into hell by accident, but then memories of his first ever training camp came back; it was just a day in the life of a lowly drone.

Survival 101

"I like how they say 'swimming gear' at the start. S'like, they want ya t'think yer gettin' this heavy-duty equipment t'make ya look all bad a** then just hand ya a sliver o' spandex. Fun stuff."

Talymn wasn't particularly used to showing off this much skin but he wasn't shy about it, practically strutting up onto the starting platforms at the pool edge, gaining a few eye-rolls from the other swimmers. He just grinned, casually posing with his hands behind his head for a few moments before turning it into an arm stretch position just as the order for stand-by was given. With knees bent and back slightly curved in preparation for the dive, he took the extra few seconds to focus on his image reflected clearly in the waters, releasing a soft sigh. The messes he'd been through the past couple days had taken a toll, or so Talymn believed, noting minuscule bumps and worry lines around his eyes that probably would've gone unnoticed by even the most astute observer.

An' all they've been doin' is causin' this effigy of immaculate beauty stress an' more stress... He growled mentally, straightening his stance just as the starting horn sounded. The sounds of splashing immediately followed, but for once the rocker troll didn't play a part in making noise as he instead just walked off, suddenly deciding getting his hair wet was not worth the trouble.

Survival 101, take 4??

Yeah, she had no idea what she was doing back so soon. Apparently she hadn't had enough self-humiliation yet. But, she was definitely learning things. Mostly what she could and could not do without disastrous results, but that was still learning something, right? And anything that would help her survive down here was a plus. She suspected that her lowblood status could make her equally vulnerable to the highbloods in the military as to the dangers lurking in the tunnels. The more chance she had to prepare herself, the better.

It looked like a swimming course was scheduled once again. Well, that was fine. As long as she didn't pass out in the water, she would do okay. Abrila plucked at the swim gear she wore, conscious of her (lack of) figure. What she wouldn't do to get her hands on her sweater again! But it seemed wearing a cool colour when she was a lowblood was frowned upon by practically everyone. It didn't stop her from dressing comfortably during her off-time, though.

A whistle blew somewhere. Abrila hesitated for only a moment before splashing into the water beside the rest of the group. Her strokes were already becoming stronger with the practice, and she wasn't as wary of sticking her face under the water anymore.

She would never be a seadweller, but she didn't have to worry about drowning anymore.

Cheese decided to try something a little different and boost her INT statistic, though she didn't expect she'd get anything out of the class. DEX was more her thing. And besides, she had some serious concerns about whether or not celestial navigation would prove useful when they were all going to be sent underground. Fortunately, that wasn't the subject this instructor had in mind. Unfortunately, the instructor was trying to coach her students in the art of dowsing.

"Finding water is very important," she said, waving a pair of bent rods over the ground. "It could save the lives of yourself and your fellow soldiers. What if you were lost in the wilderness without one of these?" The instructor held up a small device normally used by travelers to detect water. It was a standard part of the soldiers' kit, Cheese knew. There was no need for this outdated and inaccurate method. Who even gave this troll permission to teach? Cheese wasn't certain if she was even in a real class, or some crazy had just wandered into the base and taken advantage of the chaos to preach to any troll fool enough to listen. Still, not one to question authority, Cheese tried her best to mimic the instructor's actions.

"You might find this method using for locating anything that is lost," the instructor continued, "or that you need to find. Teammates, food sources, precious metals. Sometimes you might find things you weren't even looking for!"

Cheese rolled her eyes, but focused on a series of boxes on the ground in front of her. There was supposedly a glass of water in one of them. The drone stared at them a while, wiggled her dowsing rods and opened one of the boxes. No joy. She supposed she couldn't expect an exciting career in the high-stakes world of competitive dowsing, then.

Survival 101

The survival course, not too surprisingly, was far more crowded than the medicine course had been. So trolls could be sensible; that was good to know. Well - it wasn't as though Alifax had expected them to all shirk their training, but it wasn't as though he didn't know lazy trolls, either. And, honestly, most trolls were probably just as frightened of sewing as he was. It just wasn't a normal pastime, and he'd had enough of it the night before.

So he trudged slowly to his...swimming? Wait - oh, yes, it had been on the list. Hadn't it.

Alifax wasn't too fond of the idea of swimming (he didn't even have proper swim gear! He tried to ignore the glances, though; it wasn't as though it mattered whether or not he looked good.). He was a lowblood, and the trolls who usually spent time underwater were sea trolls. Also, it was considerably harder to maintain a flame underwater (imagine that!). He’d never done it much, either. Sure, he stayed clean, but it wasn’t as though Four Fronds’ lakes were open to the likes of him. And off the coast, the water looked simply dreadful – it was always clogged up with things, and Alifax wasn’t sure that he wanted to know what manner of scalebeasts lived in that water. Not that he was afraid of scalebeasts. He was a proper troll, after all!

But swimming was, apparently, on the agenda today. He glanced around at the other trolls – there was a considerably higher proportion of highbloods here – and breathed in. He’d try not to panic. He wouldn’t want to make redbloods look bad.

To be honest, Maihue was scared to go back. SHE DIDN'T WANT TO MAKE ANYMORE MAPS. Dear god no. But as soon as she got to the docks, she sat down and stared and the ground, waiting, once again, for the soldier to scare her by speaking. A few minutes later that happened, and Maihue was happy. HAHAAAAAA YES. They were going to not do maps. Anything but maps, and Maihue would be happy.

Or so she thought. "Everybody in here will mark a trail. Once you are finished, I will gather a group of trolls to go down it and make sure it is marked CORRECTLY. If not you will have to go back and look at books or something. Something boring." The soldier shrugged his shoulders and everyone stared at him with furrowed brows. He must be tired of this or something.. Maihue thought, as she started to draw out a trail. As she was drawing out the trail, she realized she was going off the paper, and started to crumple the paper up, but then realized she could flip it over. Flustered, she grabbed a new paper anyway. First she drew buildings, and marked them with a bright red marker signifying where to put the actual mark and.. Yeah, alright, she was done with this. Everyone went on their way to make a trail, and luckily, everyone passed, so the soldier nodded and told everyone to head back to the docks. They weren't finished yet. Maihue sighed, and followed behind everyone.

When they were all back at the docks, the soldier started to speak. "Now that you have marked a trail, you need to think. What will you be marking in a cave? The walls? The ground? Rocks? What will you mark them with? Think about this and write down notes. Be sure to remember them, because they will be a huge key to your survival and finding your way around the caves." With that, the soldier left everyone to their thinking. Maihue was actually surprised. This was the most the soldier had ever really said... She shook her head, and came back to the actual subject at hand. Well of course the walls would be a great idea, right? What would... Maybe her own blood would be a good idea..? Maihue shivered at the thought. No, it could be washed off. What about rock formations.. No, those could be moved. Maihue started to become frustrated, and scribbled on her paper. She started to blush - she couldn't think of anything. As she sat there, she finally realized she could carve signs into the walls. Maybe. Hopefully that would be good, hopefully she would be strong enough to do that, and hopefully the wall was weak enough! Maihue jotted it down and underlined it. Good idea. Maihue smiled, and started to jot down other ideas she had in mind.

Tactics 101

Here she was again. While not as exciting as the combat training Minist found herself not being bored out of her mind in Tactics. Chewing on her pencil she listened to their instructor. They were saying something about fighting smarter, not harder. That made sense. Better to be smart in your fights than a dumb brute. Avoid an embarrassing defeat by just throwing punches with no thought. Oh, someone down in the combat training just got tripped. They should have paid more attention to their opponent's feet than looking only at their hands. Filing that thought away she finished off a doodle of Ratmom. Wonder what her lusus was doing? She didn't go back home to tell her about how she was pretty much drafted into the army and would be looking for a Mother Grub. Then again she didn't come home straight away the last time she got a royal invitation. Ratmom couldn't be too upset with her.

Survival 101

It was safe to say that Talymn had made a rather foolish impression of himself in the eyes of the militant trainers these past few days not that he cared. They weren't an audience he was willing to play for even during the few hours of rec. time they were allowed. Striding into the main compound, he was expecting yet another day of trivial exercises and slacking from said exercises. Instead, though, he would find out just how seriously he had insulted the integrity of the military.

As he was about to fall in line with the others, he was called aside and directed to the far end of the room where an impeccably tall seablood stood. The embroidered insignia on the officer's uniform showed he wasn't too high up in the blood ranks, but that didn't make Talymn feel any better about this new situation. Eyes narrowed and mouth curled into a slight sneer, Talymn tried his best to hide his nervousness as he locked eyes with the officer. There was a long silence between them before Talymn finally snapped.

"So wot we gonna be doin' then? Swimmin' laps? Teachin' me 'ow to rig a sail...?"

The officer gave a small scoff, flashing a warm smile. "No, no. Nothing so strenuous. Not yet at least." he replied in an amazingly pleasant voice that it completely threw Talymn for a loop. "Hm... Let us start wiiiiith... push-ups!" The officer continued, still ever so amiable.

"... Uh... kay...?"

"One. Thousand. Now."

Talymn blinked, not sure which was more unbelievable; the obscene amount of repetitions he was expected to perform or the officer's demeanor in general. In that same instant he felt a hand grab onto his hair before being pulled off balance and shoved down, landing with a dull thud on the cement flooring.

"Begin!" The officer shouted, his voice still carrying that oddly enigmatic and friendly tone.

Talymn didn't waste time in getting into the proper position; legs stretched, arms out. By the time he had done about 30, his arms were losing their strength. Another ten and he was barely holding his position anymore. For... ty-eee....twooooo- "Geh!" he collapsed, breathing hard.

"Now, now... No resting. We do not haue all night and I do haue other unfortunates to attend to. So, please do not drag this out." His drill instructor chided with a click of his tongue as he forced his boot under Talymn's stomach and lifted his toes. With an agitated growl, Talymn swiped at his foot but the instructor easily avoided the sloppy attack, taking a step back. "See! If you still haue that much energy, you really can continue! Let us make it 1,500 now, hm?"

"Screw that noise!" Talymn shouted back, sitting up on his knees and moving to stand. The instructor's hand landed firmly on his shoulder and it took all of Talymn's self control to keep from biting onto the guy's wrist as he glared up at him. "Get off'a me!" He snapped, rolling his shoulder back violently.

The instructor's grip just tightened like a winch earning a small pained gasp from the kid.

"Ah-ah-ah. Let's be ciwil, my duckie. You came here under the notion of training to better yourself, did you not? Yet, from what has been obserwed, you haue gone out of your way to do the exact opposite!" Finally there was a sliver of tension in the instructor's voice as he released his hold. "In normal situations, your time wasting antics would haue been worthy of a culling order. If I had any say in it, that actually would be the case now, luck for you and your ilk, hm? So instead I will offer you these options... either you continue with my instructions or get out of my facility."

The choice was an easy one.
