Alex was finally able to tear his eyes away from Mort, somewhat wishing it could be that easy for him to escape reality, and get rid of unwanted emotions. Oh how much easier unlife would be if he could just do that anytime one of his....moods, set in. Alex leaned slightly against Yin, who had scooted in nearer to him and whispered back, just as loudly for the whole room to hear. "He's uh...drowned his emotions in tea and forced his brain to restart. At least, I think that's what he's done." It would almost have been amusing if it wasn't during such a serious time.

Alex turned his attention back towards Taryn now, since she was at least was answering his half poised question from moments before.

Not that he had really wanted to hear the answer.

"Oh..." He finally managed, looking down at the floor and not meeting anybodies eyes, though normally it bothered him when people did that. "That's..uh..pretty awful. At least you didn't suffer any..physical pain." He had almost just said 'pain' without adding the 'physical' in front, but at the last moment realized that they had all suffered at least some form of pain during that trial, and that mental and emotional pain were often quite a bit worse then the physical.

"Soooo, Mort?" He asked, since nobody had mentioned yet what had happened to the other zomboil.

Yin nodded, continuing to watch Mort. Restarting his brain? He wondered effective that was, and how useful it might be. If one was in pain would a restart make it go away? Would it help to clear away memories or perhaps make things suddenly make sense? The zomboil did not seem at all disturbed by it, and Yin was more than a little curious about it. Maybe he could ask Mort to teach him about it later, though he was not sure he really wanted forehead stitches like that, or if it would work with his antennae.

It had been better to focus on than what Miss Taryn was saying though. It was hard to think of Mademoiselle Temes giving the hunters whatever they wanted, and then...exploded? His hands closed into fists, claws biting into his palms as they tightened. Miss Taryn seemed too...well it was not a good ending, but it seemed better than what had happened to the others. But he really wished that Alexander had not been so insistent on asking Mort what happened to him. In so many ways he simply did not wish to know.

He knew he had really been the luckiest of them all.

"No," was the only response Taryn gave to Mort, sipping her tea. She wasn't going to watch him escape, to damage himself by not grieving properly. She was annoyed. She'd almost rather he be yelling at her again.

The ghoul had nothing to offer her guests, simply sipping her tea.

Windham suddenly awoke from a nap at the foot of his master's bed, leaping down with a little thump-thump and approached the group, sitting beside Taryn and peeking up at Yin. His little nub wiggled as well as it could wag. People? FOOD. He put his front paws up on the coffee table and leaned in to sniff the candied brains. Taryn gently pushed the plate away, toward Mort.

No? 38 "Aww . . ." But it was good tea. He'd need to find him some later, this s**t was soothing. And tasty. And yeah. But apparently instead of tea they wanted story time, which he reeeeally didn't want to do, but . . . Maybe if he cooperated he'd get some more tea?

Well, for now candied brains would do. He took one after Taryn pushed the plate towards him, nibbling as he thought how best to collect his very scattered thoughts. "Mrr . . . If must know, will tell." And lucky listeners, his drugged self had no stuttering speech impediment.

"Is not easy watching death one by one. Think would be, if undead - is dead already, knows what comes with - but isn't easy n'way. N' have to understand, was in position before, thought would be okay this time . . ." Mort spoke to the candied brains in his hand, the lackadaisical tone he exuded growing sober, even if he still had the dazed look in his eyes. "Was captured once, after Christmastival. Helped new student try find minipet, was captured n'stead by Hunter leader. Woke up in white room like one you saw. Table here -" - he gestured vaguely in front of him - "with pink-haired ghoul. Four swords, very mean. Tried asking why wear red cloaks, why sun is rising, why put trust n' Horsemen. Cut my arm off too. But didn't stop. Punched face, made her angry . . ." The zomboil half-smiled briefly before nibbling away another part of candied brains and continuing. "Was threatened with fire, but Hunter leader - Caelius - stopped her. Said got what needed. Was already disappoint with her earlier for being bad at capture: no net, no plan, like little angry scareling trying make up for mistakes. Shooed her away, then sent me back to infirmary with scythe cut."

A pause, another look at the sweets in his hand before gobbling it all down. More thoughts came. So many, many more thoughts than he wanted; the ones he'd tried to escape by drowning himself in tea.

"When . . . when team first appear n' room, thought, 'Will not be bad. Do not try kill, only ask questions, eventually let go'. Stupid." His stickied hand made a fist, the somewhat drunken Mort's expression twisting. "Should have known when saw Yin turn that this was different. But when saw Alex cage open, couldn't help but be hopeful. Couldn't help but think 'Not want all of us. Has chance for escape, return n' force, rescue the lost.'" He slid his glasses over, lips tight as if he was holding his breath against something, staring at the tabletop in front of him.

"N' then, saw Alex pulled back, changed to weapon . . .Was - W-Was so angry." Nails found the niches in his palms they had dug previously, a million words wanting to burst out from his stitched lips. "Wanted so hard break free n' tear ghoul apart, but . . . but couldn't. Arms would not move, hands would not punch; had punched so much, lost so much feeling." Unlike now, where Mort sat hunched over, his mouth trembling the more he spoke.

There was another pause before he threw pleading eyes at the reddish blob he knew to be Taryn, mumbling weakly, "M-More tea, please . . .?"

Alex visibly winced at the simple word 'No' that Taryn had given, even though it wasn't even directed at him. He was trying to keep himself as calm as possible but the tension in the room was so thick, and his own emotions were running so high, that they were making him moody and unpredictable. One second angry, the next frightened and paranoid, and shortly afterwards he might have been smiling or even laughing or making a joke. It was really as bad as being a ghoul all over again, not knowing what emotion was going to come out next.

He suddenly just didn't even want to be here anymore, not that he had really wanted to come that badly in the first place. He suddenly just wanted to leave, to go back to Yin's room and lay on Yin's bed and not move for the rest of the day. He knew that wasn't healthy, that getting out and doing things was probably the best thing he could do to recover, but it didn't change the fact that he just did not want to be here right now.

When Mort started speaking, Alex almost seemed to shrink in on himself. Taryn had made it sound bad, but Mort was making it sound so much worse, and he hadn't even gotten to the part beyond when Alex had gotten changed yet. It was one thing to have experienced it for himself, but it was quite another to have another person who had witnessed the entire event as it unfolded speak about it. Yin hadn't seen any of it, Alex could have made up any story, any lie, and the weremantis wouldn't have known any better. Mort had seen it all, he had been the last to 'survive'. He alone knew what happened to each and every one of them, and hearing about it only made Alex want to get up and stride out of that room all the more.

But instead he hunched down, pulling his knees tight up against his chest, lowering his chin on top and listening, closing his eyes, trying not to focus too much on the words being spoken, trying not to relive those memories that he had been trying to block out with such futility. He wanted to tell the other zomboil to stop, but he had asked for this. He had asked what had happened to Mort, and now the other zombie was telling them all.

Miss Taryn's minipet smelled delicious.

Yin really could not help but to think that, he was a predator, and that could easily be his prey. But all thoughts of eating fled out the window the more the zomboil told about his experience. At first all he felt was stunned disbelief, that gave way to that horrible mixture of rage and helplessness that the hunters seemed to affect everything with.

He wanted to tell them all that he was never going to let his happen again, that he would become stronger, find a way to fight the change or to be impervious to poisonous fumes or something but he knew it was pointless. Knew it was futile without saying anything. The pointless ramblings of a powerless boil. But he did give each of his team mates a lingering look, finally resting on Alexander. He would not promise to them that he would do anything, but he would certainly do everything he could to protect each and every one again. Sacrificing himself may not prevent them from being harmed, but at least it gave them a bit more time, a bit more of a chance.

Taryn gave Mort a helpless look and nodded, lifting the tea pot to refill his cup. She had an inkling to just peel his scalp back and redress his brain for him, but who knew? Maybe he was actually going to drink this cup.

The ghoul really didn't want to hear any more. Mort was adding an all-new layer to the event that she would rather not deal with; the emotions and experiences of another. The attack itself, the dream, whatever it was, had been bad enough by itself and hard enough to deal with, but now they'd all have to absorb someone else's experience.
