At this point, more than likely under the stress of the situation, Hel just wasn’t…seeing some things. She heard Mot, but she heard Riyo more…and it was pissing her off. Somewhere, she didn’t appreciate her talking to him like that, but at the same time, it was like Mot wasn’t there, either. It was odd.

The ghoul stopped pounding her fists on the wall, and turned her head to stare long and hard at Riyo.

In no time, she was crossing their small holding cell in ground eating strides, where she reached out and grabbed Mot by the back of the collar. The ghoul yanked on his collar, and then just tossed him nearly to the opposite side of the room. Nothing personal. It was like he was there, but he wasn’t. At this moment, he was in the way. Now, Hel grabbed Riyo by the front of her nighty, and raised her arms. She’d make the ghoul dangle, even if she was taller. “Shut the ******** up, Riyo.” Hel snarled. “If you are just going to sit there and give up, then you are worthless. If that is how you want it to end, I shall help you. I will end you right now. I will strangle you into dissipation, if you do not get it together right now.”

Perhaps the gentle touch had calmed her down ever so slightly. The ghoul's hands slowly dropped to her sides, leaving a small trail of red in their wake. She was mumbling something about a book, but most of it was just garbled nonsense.

That is, until Hel stepped in rather violently.

Riyo didn't fight back. In fact, she was almost like a rag doll. Her head cocked to the side and down. It was like her vision wasn't processing Hel. It was seeing right through her.

'Shut the ******** up.'

'You are worthless.'

Worthless...

Worthless.

"Worthless. Adjective. having no real value or use... Or, of a person, Having no good qualities; Deserving contempt."

You're worthless to me, Riyo.

"Mother. I'm sorry I left you alone here. I thought for the longest time that if you were somewhere I could always find you, I wouldn't have to live in fear of hearing your heels click across the 147 plaques of dark oak hard wood we have in the living room. I counted them all just to avoid looking into your eyes. Your eyes scare me. Those blue eyes. What do you look like now? It's been so long. Almost 8 years since I've seen your face, though I never paid close enough attention to really see anything but those eyes." Her voice turned from a sharp, almost jagged spur of words to something soft and child-like. "I still read the dictionary. I know every possible derogatory word you can call me and the implications of it now. Too much? Are you going to hit me now? Okay. That's fine. We'll have plenty of time for that."

And Riyo hung there with dead eyes, waiting for the feeling of pain. Failure. Failure. Failure...

Maybe he'd succeeded! Riyo calmed down, but then… He was picked up by the collar like a naughty kitten and tossed to the side.

Mot fell to the ground, dumbstruck that he'd once again been taken down so easily. By Hel. Once again his ego had been beaten back down. He only wanted to help. That's all. It seemed like any time he tried to play mediator, he failed.

The reaper blinked. And again. Should he be angry? Maybe. But as Hel dug into Riyo, Mot just sat there.

His help wasn't wanted.

Hunters. Hunters. How had they been so careless? They should have expected--

--no, there was no point in dwelling on what was already happened. Deciding that her tiny natural form was not nearly as threatening as was necessary in this situation (granted that her human form was only slightly better), the baku dug her skull pin out from the little satchel that she kept around her neck.

The creature disappeared, giving way to a very familiar looking ghoul. As she pinned the skull onto her plain black nightgown, she turned to scan their new surroundings, pink eyes narrowing slightly at the sight of the Hunters beyond the clear walls. She said nothing to them--Titus had already answered them--and so Xiu instead turned her attention to her friends.

..."Riyo?" Again, it was clear that there was something wrong with the bakeneko. And then--was Hel alright as well? She shot a desperate look towards Mot and Titus--the two team members who were still seemingly calm under the circumstances--and then back towards the ghouls.

She moved very, very slowly, and very carefully, stopping beside them. Almost timidly, she reached out and touched a hand to Hel's shoulder, letting it hover there uncertainly. "Hel? Hel, please let her go...? The most important thing right now is finding a way out of here."

"Wow....." That was all Titus really had to say about the scene that everyone was putting on. Not even five minutes inside this place and Riyo was losing her ******** mind and taking the rest of the team with her. Xiu seemed to be the only person mentally intact.

"HEY!" He yelled loud enough to get the attention of these 'seasoned' year twos. So good to know they could hold themselves together for their underclassmen though Titus really had no idea what these false reaper or cosplay reapers could do. "Could you at least wait perhaps another hour before you go ******** nutters so we can think of a plan. If we're still trapped by all means, beat yourself against the wall, rock in the corner, mumble your insanity driven nonsense but I hate to tell you at the moment you aren't alone. We're stuck with you so keep it the Jack together!"

Why the hell was he being the voice of reason anyway? He wasn't even the leader of this precious team. Their leader was currently wound tighter than a drum and going off the deep end.

With a sneer Titus turned away from his group to peer back out the window at the people beyond it. He stared them down with intense eyes, wings twitching in irritation. "You gonna give me any answers?"

The hissing noise caused Xiu to look up, eyes wide as she scanned the cage. What was...?!

With the sudden exhaustion came realization. She should have known that the Hunters wouldn't have been pleased with their answer. Xiu fell onto her knees, trying desperately to stay awake despite how futile her attempt was. Her eyes felt heavy, so heavy--

Before she knew it, she was passed out.

Riyo had started crying when the hissing sound echoed through their little chamber. She might've fallen from Hel's grasp. Hit the ground with a thud. She couldn't really say. All she could feel was warm water flowing down her face and across her self-inflicted wounds. "Goodbye.. My f-friends."

She knew.

Deep down on the inside, she knew this was to happen. She had felt it in her bones. The greatest failure had yet to come.

She was failing herself.

For the short time Riyo slept, she'd seen the little girl she'd always tried to shelter from the world. Just standing in front of her. Crying. And for the first time, there was nothing the ghoul could do to comfort her. Cry. She needed to cry. She had to cry. The pieces of glass her mother had left formed the jagged ridges that surrounded her today. They had been the foundation. And they had grown so long. So sharp. Riyo hadn't touched them. She let them grow.

And now they were inches away from her neck.

It was a rude awakening. Bright lights, the shock of the hateful walls touching her body. Immediately she squeezed together in an effort to keep her body from feeling the shock of the walls. The nap had done little for her sanity.

Squinting out into the endless sea of white, she was able to make out the shapes. The coats. The white coats. In some ways, they worked in the same ways as the white coats she left her mother with. Cold. Calculating. Observant. Uncaring. Their concerns were not with the people in their care, but the profit from those people. But what was that behind them?

A different perspective, that's what.

Her friends. Her friends were still in the cube. Her team was still out there. Safe and sound.

The terrifying realization struck her.

Where she must be. At that very moment... If the four of them were over there.

Riyo's eyes couldn't bulge anymore. They were as wide as they got as she stared in disbelief out into the safety of the room.

She was living it. Her worst nightmare. Riyo wasn't going to die. No. Dying would be too merciful. Dying would be beautiful release. A desirable option.

She was going to be imprisoned within her own body for the rest of eternity. Alone.

Tears flowed viciously from her eyes as she stared out to the faces of her comrades. From Hel, to Mot, to Xiu, then Titus. She looked so scared. Like a child in a lion's den. It almost didn't look like Riyo. Almost.

The ghoul couldn't lie. All the things that confused her recently now seemed clear as day now. She cared. She cared about all of them. She might've even loved them. Riyo had looked at the definition of love more than a couple of times, but it never amounted to any more of an understanding. No, not at all. But perhaps it was supposed to be like that. Maybe she had looked into it too much.

And Titus. Suddenly she found herself wishing, crying out about how she wanted more kisses. Even if they were fake. Even if it was all just a filthy lie. She wanted to be held. Wanted to be touched. Wanted to BE wanted. With every fiber of her being, she wanted it.

"I.." The ghoul leaned into the wall as the whirring sound above her head kicked up. It didn't matter... The pain. She could feel her skin burning at the shocks. "I'm so afraid..." She called to them. There was something missing from Riyo's eyes.

She'd finally lost all hope.

Glancing up to the sound, a pain like nothing she'd ever experienced before shot through her entire being. Riyo screamed. Riyo screamed louder than she knew she could. So much that she was sure her voice box would give out. The ghoul started ramming, smashing herself into every possible option. She rammed everything she could. Her body. Her body was deteriorating! Right in front of her! "NO!" In a last ditch effort, her fingers clawed at the little window. She couldn't even feel her fingernails break. The pain of the machine was much worse. So much worse. "I'M SORRY. I'M SO ******** SORRY. I'M S-"

Her body. Her body was changing.

Slowly but surely... Her screaming stopped.

The last glance she had of her friends was one of confusion. As if... In her last moments, she had no idea who they were or what they'd just been through.

Silence.

Silence and emptyness.

Something Riyo never thought she would see.

Titus was getting nothing. The creatures on the other side of the glass were filled with indifference. He took a step back about to try his hand at slamming into the clear hard surface when he heard the hissing. Something much like a massive group of snakes but when he looked up that's not what he found.

"Gas?" The word just managed to leave his lips before his vision closed in around him and his legs gave out. It was involuntary nap time apparently.

When Titus next awoke he was once again blindsided by the bright lights in the room. Did they really need to have it so bright? His wings were tucked in close to his body as he pushed himself up to look around. They were confined but in a smaller cage this time. He growled his discontent but noticed one key thing after a once over of the occupants.

One of them was missing.

"Where's, Ms. Boil?" Titus had been rather calm through this adventure but a sort of panic struck him when he realized their tall blonde feline was missing. Immediately he was on his feet searching the room until he found her not far off in her own cylinder containment. What were they doing with her?

"Hey! Hey you bastards what the ******** do you think you're doing?"

He had only a moment to pace before there was a new light and Riyo let out a scream. The demon could see the tears from here. She was scared...terrified even and there was nothing he could do. And that look she was giving him. It confused him...it even made someplace in the cold dark area he called a heart hurt.

"Riyo..." It was probably the first time he has said her name but it was in a whisper. No one would have heard it.

When the feline started to scream louder Titus threw himself against their own containment. "RIYO!" They would hear it this time, anger radiating from him. But in a short moment Riyo was gone and replaced with....something else. When the men in the white coats approached with their threat.....

"One of you will be next if you don't answer our questions. Where have you come from?"

Titus only growled through the glass. He wasn't about to say a word. In fact, he spit even if it would only land on the glass it made him feel better. But why was he suddenly filled with this sinking feeling of loss? His eyes darted over to where Riyo had been hoping it was some sort of trick. Maybe it still was? Why was he inwardly pleading that it was?

When Mot awoke with the others, he felt strange. Something was wrong. WHere was Riyo? The reaper rubbed his eyes, trying to wake himself up. His eyes scanned their surroundings, noting that Titus was looking at something. Someone. Mot turned his eyes to meet what had the demon's attention. Riyo, in her own cylinder. All by herself and scared to death. What was that?

Wait.. he remembered something he'd seen in a vision; something Lizzy had told him about.

A painful feeling sunk in, as the machine started up. Riyo screamed, and Mot knew what was happening. "NO! STOP IT!" Mot got up and slammed into the wall. Of course nothing happened. The machine continued, and Riyo began to dissappear. "RIYO!" He cried out again. This couldn't be happening. Wasn't it a nightmare? But his shoulder throbbed from banging into the wall. This was real..

Soon it went deathly silent. Riyo was...

Mot took a step back. The threat from the hunter scared him, but not enough. Mot would never yield to these people. "Not after what you did.." He growled, fists clenched so tightly his nails dug into the skin. He risked becoming a weapon too. But, poor Riyo had met that fate. If only there was something he could have done. Something he could do.

His eyes turned to his remaining companions. No.. he didn't want them to be turned too. However, everyone felt the same here. They each had a choice in the matter. As for Mot, he would never give a hunter what they wanted.

Xiu emitted a little groan as her eyes fluttered open, a hand flying up to clutch at her temple. Where was she? They were...in a cage...and then the gas...

The baku's head jerked up when she suddenly heard Titus and Mot yelling from beside her. Pushing herself up to her feet, she reached out, looking puzzled as her fingers met a smooth, solid surface. Another cage of sorts? She glanced over towards the boils, and then followed their gaze to--

"RIYO!" And then Xiu's panicked voice joined the others, pink eyes wide as she peered out at the bakeneko. Her heart clenched at her friend's expression--her terrified expression--and she drew a hand back, bringing her fist down on the transparent surface that separated them from Riyo's cage. She ignored the shock of pain that shot up her hand, pounding on the surface again, and again, and again, and--

That cylinder. That must have been what the others had been talking about, what some of the students had witnessed during the last field trip. The cursed machine that distorted Halloweeners, warped them, turned them into what were essentially slaves and mere objects for the Hunters to wield. The weaponizing machine that, to their knowledge, was impossible to revert.

And now Riyo was in that machine.

She brought her fist down more violently on their cage when their friend began to scream, her own voice growing louder as she shrieked Riyo's name and begged the Hunters to just stop this already. But they didn't--they wouldn't--and their team was forced to stand there and watch this all happen.

When Riyo's screaming finally faded, she was already gone, replaced by some kind of object. Xiu's eyes were blank as the Hunter made their way towards their cage, but pure, unbridled rage flared up in her as the man had the gall to ask them for information.

She had an angry reply ready, but it never left her lips. Instead, the baku's face crumpled as she broke down into sobs.

One moment Riyo was in her hands, and the next, she wasn’t.

Hel awoke from blackness again, to the cries of her team mates and the screaming that had her spine crawling made her snap her head up. A very quick sweep counted one, two, and three team mates…but…

Her head snapped over to the cylinder, and the usually vocal valkyrie could only stare at the horror unfolding before them in a stunned silence. It was really happening to someone. Someone she knew and cared for, even if they didn’t always get along. Someone she really did view as a sister. Hel pushed herself into a seated position, and just continued to stare until all that washed over them was an eerie silence and the sight of an object that was once Riyo.

The ghoul felt numb. It was almost like…she was dreaming…this was surreal. Her thoughts snapped back to the meeting in the co-ed bathroom…questions and concerns about reverting their fellow Halloweeners back into their original forms after they’d been weaponzied…Hel refused to believe that it couldn’t be done. It had to be possible. She refused to accept the idea that that…thing was Riyo and would stay that way for all eternity. Hel’s lips pulled into a firm, thin line as she now just glared at their captors. This feeling of helplessness…this unbridled rage swirling in her stomach…such a bad combination…

She should have gone through with her threat, she suddenly thought. If she had indeed, strangled Riyo into dissipation…she wouldn’t be a weapon. Hel now looked at her team mates with an odd look in her eyes.

It shouldn’t happen to anyone else, either…not especially if there was something she could do about it…
