He was deeply asleep, mostly, at that moment. Aska had always been quick to wake, though; it was another valuable skill that made him a great servant, really. His first instinct upon waking was to throw an arm over his eyes and pretend he didn't exist; alas, there was a god in his head, and Althai was apparently a sadistic b*****d:

Wakey wakey!! Irritably, he obeyed, cracking open his eyes for a moment. There was something brushing over his leg, though, and...

Something brushing over his leg? Aska opened his eyes and sat up, shielding his eyes from the light; and yes, that was basically a tail draped over his leg. A purple tail. Well, Aska did what any sane man would do, finding himself in bed with a massive cat he hadn't expected to see: He screamed a very embarrassing, unmanly scream, which he would probably deny later, and scrambled out of bed, one hand over his mouth and the other dragging a sheet along after him. Althai laughed in his head and the mild headache started to beat unmercifully, as the carpenter was left to wonder fearfully what exactly he did last night.

No, seriously. What did he do?

Said feline ended up jumping and almost falling off the bed when her companion screamed. Ugh...must you...my head hurts. The look she shot him made it clear enough she was displeased- narrowed eyes, long ears folded back. In her half awake state it didn't occur to her that she had not mentioned her ability to shapeshift to him. She yawned and stretched lazily, careful not to damage any of the bed linens. When he continued to stare, her head cocked to the side as if to ask what the problem was.

Okay, the giant cat was displeased, and he was going to just. Um. Straighten up? Althai kept on laughing and that made it so hard to think straight but he offered the cat a somewhat pained lift of the eyebrows anyway. "Um, I'm sorry," he said, feeling utterly ridiculous for explaining to a cat. "But I'm not entirely sure how you got in my bed?..."

And then he huffed a sigh, because he had preferred the lady sharing his bed when he'd fallen asleep. "This is probably pretty stupid," he admitted to the cat and its (her?) cocked head. "But have you seen a woman, couple of inches taller than me, erm, pointy ears?"

What the hell was so funny, he wondered to Althai's continued amusement, half-turning to try to grab some pants out of the dresser to his back. He would be able to deal with this situation much better if he had pants.

Whisteria couldn't speak like this, but she could still understand and when he spoke it dawned on her. ...Oh. Might as well explain now. She hopped off the bed and padded over beside him, rubbing her head against his thigh affectionately and purring. Hopefully it would be enough to get his attention without frightening him again.

Aska tensed when the cat approached, and almost jumped out of his skin when it rubbed its head against his thigh--his size assessment had been right, its head came up to his hip. Poor dumb mortal, was Althai's uncomforting contribution, finally, as Aska ghosted a hand over the cat's violet fur. "I guess it was a dumb question," he told the cat. "I have never met a talking cat and honestly, I don't know that I want to start." Maybe Whisteria was out in the kitchen or something? Oh, hells, he couldn't have slept through her getting eaten.

Or could he? Maybe if it was a very quiet devouring.

"Met a lot of other strange things though," he sighed finally. "Um, are you hungry? Not that I think you ate anyone."

Eaten anyone....do I really look like I could do that? Since she couldn't laugh settled for tilting her head up and pressing her nose against his hand, nuzzling it, a gesture that might remind him of the night before. Then she turned and made her way back to the bed and hopped up on it, making herself comfortable again.

For the druidess shifting back was easy and painless, like taking a step from one form into another. So after a moment Aska would see Whisteria laying there on his bed again, on her stomach with her head resting on her arms. She smiled sheepishly up at him. "I'm sorry, its an aspect of being a druid...that from the look on your face before, it would seem I neglected to mention it."

"You know," he started thoughtfully as the cat prowled back to his bed, "You sort of remind me of--"

And then the cat was Whist, and Aska's pale eyes turned into saucers and Althai started laughing again. When he got over the shock, he crossed the room back to sit on the bed, setting his pants down beside him. "Yeah," he said, "You rather did." Could one physically have a heart attack from a sudden adrenaline crash? He smiled a bit goofily, more relieved than anything. Hells. He'd thought she'd eaten herself. Which was stupid. "It's fine, though. As long as you weren't devoured by anything." He reached out to run his fingers down the side of her face, smiling softly--Althai was quieting down again, and he let the god be. His attention, he thought, would be better spent on the woman.

"Something you do every night, like a warg," he asked, tipping his head a bit. "You know, men and women who turn into wolves at moonrise. Except... more with giant cats. I don't think I've ever seen a cat that big, you know." He thought about it for a moment, biting his lower lip. A thought occurred, possibly nudged along by Althai, and he parroted, "Do you want to have breakfast? I wasn't just offering it to the cat, you know."

"When I was still active in the military and was out on campaign I would sleep as a cat, it was easier to wake and defend myself that way." She leaned into his touch, feeling a bit better that she hadn't frightened him as much as she first thought. "Honestly, last night was an accident." Her subconscious way of reacting to the unease of being in a stranger's home perhaps.

"And, no, its not like that for me. I can be an animal when I choose..." She sat up and leaned in to kiss him softly. "Thank you, that would be lovely. If you have the things I need for it, I can make something to ease the headache too." If not, well it would require a trip to her tree to get what she needed first.

Hum. One second things looked more sensible and then the next they were not. Well, that was alright; he smiled into the kiss she gave, and pushed himself up off the bed. "You can have a look around the kitchen," he said, sorting through drawers and pulling on clothes. "But I haven't got much mystical, just cooking herbs. Water usually works alright on me, and all. Do you like eggs?" Oh, yes, Aska had done this plenty of times back home--but it was different when one knew that in a few months, one would be dead. Usually he meant to see if things could go further, become actual relationships, but--

But, echoed Althai, subdued for the first time that day.

Aska smiled at Whisteria. "If you want I can dig up a shirt and some pants or something for you to wear, too," he offered. "I don't have any work due soon so basically it's a free day."

"Something simple like that hardly takes anything fancy...and I'm not picky." She watched him dress out of the corner of her eye, figuring it might seem rude to watch him more openly. Once he was almost done dressing she set about looking for her own clothes, wondering where they might have ended up. "I can just wear my gown from yesterday, assuming I can find it, pants and I don't get along so well." Mostly, she just felt awkward and uncomfortable in them.

"So, no rush then?" Her experience with situations like this were limited to a handful of times with male friends, who never saw anything beyond sharing a bed the occasional time. Aska's sweetness was refreshing, making her feel less awkward about having a near-drunk night of pleasure with a virtual stranger. Her cheeks flushed a little at the memory and she turned away both to hide the blush and with the intent of searching the floor on the side of the bed she had slept on for her gown. From his vantage point he would be able to see the remaining lines of old scars on her back, some were faint and hard to see but a few were rough from larger wounds that had not been healed well.

After a bit she managed to find her underclothes, but still there wasn't a sign of her gown anywhere. Maybe she would have to suffer with wearing pants for a bit after all.

Aska made it all the way to the kitchen, getting down glasses and pouring out water. "Clothes are in the dresser if you need them," he called over his shoulder; the apartment wasn't very big and his voice would carry well, he hoped. In the meantime, he downed a pair of painkiller pills and set about making breakfast. You're sad. Why are you sad? That doesn't make any sense, the god in his head said; Aska huffed and shuffled the contents of his skillet around. He wasn't sad, he was pretty content all things considered.

"Maybe look in the living room?" They had started there, after all.

The living room! Now there was an idea, she would check after she had done something about dulling this headache at the very least, Aska's wake up scream hadn't helped it. For now she settled on borrowing one of his shirts, slipping into it on over her undergarments as she made her way to the kitchen. Lacking pants she wasn't entirely dressed but at least she wasn't completely nude anymore.

"Certainly smells good." If he looked back she would be there, leaning in the kitchen doorway watching him.

Predictably, he turned to look at her, and smiled at what he saw. Even if he wasn't used to purple women with long, pointed ears, he could still appreciate them--and he'd always liked seeing women in his shirts. It kindled something sort of warm and possessive in his heart. "Hope so," he said. "There's some water for you on the counter." He nodded his head towards it. "And Motrin, if you want it. I don't know if you have the things for the thing you were going to make. But this'll take a little more time, so, if you need to go get something you can."

He smiled, then, the expression returning easily. "I'm not going anywhere."
PostPosted: Wed Mar 21, 2012 11:16 pm

Whisteria smiled back at him, a long eyebrow quirking at the word 'Motrin'. It wasn't something she was familiar with; perhaps it was a plant, or maybe a potion of some sort? She went over to inspect what it was he had motioned to on the counter and as it turned out it definitely was neither of those things.

"So, what is this supposed to do exactly?" Call her a skeptic, but how was something like this supposed to help with a headache?

"I don't really know," he admitted. Perhaps Althai knew, but--okay, the grumbles in his head said that Althai had an idea, but he wasn't entirely settled on what exactly it was. "Althai says it's sort of a potion in pill form, as far as he can tell," he translated from the deluge of words about body systems and purging bad things and how in his day there was just a laying on of hands by his chosen clerics.

Where did they all go, the god wondered. Aska had no answers, so instead he said, "It makes pain go away pretty well, in the absence of a Healer."
