If the main character's nice looking, that's a bonus, but that's not the only reason I'll buy a game. It is nice when the main character's hot, though...
The only problem is, when has this happened? I've *never* seen a game where the hot guys were advertised to the extent that the busty girls were. Sexy-male-quotient is never a selling point, so girls have less opportunity to be shallow money-wasters. AT least, that's my opinion. ^____^

If there was a "hot" male character it might attract me to the game, but I wouldn't buy it just because of that.
Like PearlLotus says, it is a plus when the main character is attractive, but it's rarely advertised if that attractive main character is male. 3nodding
The videogame market is focused on getting their products into the homes and hands of their most faithful customers: straight white males between the ages of 14 and 34. Why would they waste money with advertising campaigns geared toward females?? That might attract gay males, afterall. rolleyes
This isn't what the main subject was, but:
I think it's alright for guys to want to keep something for themselves. If the gaming world is a "man's world," then why not make the best of it?? I believe it may have been a female game developer who came up with the "giggly boob" effect (at least for the Tekken games). But sicne there are more girls than ever playing videogames, why not move away from that "traditional" market?? Girls don't "always" want to play with little cute dragons and make up dance moves for Britney. We like hot male a** just as much as men like hot girls. xd It's time for videogames to stop trying to hide that.

I don't think I've ever bought a game purely on how the character looks, but I do pick them in game for how they look. However, if the main character is a total hottie, that's always a plus ~_^

If i see a game being advertised that has a hot male character it most likely will catch my attention BUT that's not all i look for in a game. Does it have annoying Background music, and does it play clearly? How are the graphics etc. Yeah, i love a game with good graphics and a nice battle scene. Doesn't matter if the men and women are hot in it or not, if it's bad i'm not about to say "Well at least the main guy and gal are hot!"
That makes up for nothing gonk I'd still kick myself for buying it.

I haven't ever personally been guilty of this. If the characters are hot, that's just an added bonus, but it doesn't influence whether or not I buy the game.

Epidemic of Insanity I'm far too busy drooling over guys IRL to care much about the characters in my video games. sweatdrop [ xd Real life guys do pwn videogame guys. 3nodding Besides, in videogames, since most of the artists are still male, they don't too a good job all the time of making the male characters as "true to life" as they do the female ones. rolleyes ]

I can't say I have bought any game because I find the characters hot. Usually I buy games that I tried a demo first, I played at a friend's, game got glowing reviews, or the game is a greatest hit(cheap and well liked). xp

usually i buy a game on it's contents but.. i am guilty for one game. And I couldn't help myself because the game was modeled with Gackt. He is my weakness I swear! Thankfully the game was really cool game play wise sweatdrop but it was mostly for gackt and unlocking his clothes to have him run around in.

not me I buy a agme because It's fun or I like to play it not just over hot guys or girls but if there in it you can call it a bonus!!
