Nerine Delphinias:
Personality:
What's this? A NICE Slytherin? Hardly. Just because she's not outwardly hostile or passive agressive doesn't mean she's not a Slytherin. You really need to lose some of those prejudices. Nerine may not be cut throat or conniving but the Sorting Hat doesn't make mistakes. Nerine was sent to the depths of the Slytherin dungeons because she's ambitious, determined, and has the potential to go far, if she plays her cards right.
Nerine has a secret. She's a Seer, well, most likely according to her family. The Delphinias' are descended of a long line of female seers, mystics, and fortune tellers. While most of her family has some skill in divination, only a few women are born with the power to truly See. Outside of her maternal great-grandmother, Nerine is the only woman living in their family with the traits that mark her as one with the Sight. The old bat is senile and more than a little crazed, offering next to nothing in the way of help for her youngest granddaughter.
Nerine doesn't view being a Seer as a blessing. She hates the fuss her family makes over her and is determined to reach her goals not through some unreliable and unconfirmed ability, but through her own raw talent.
Her grandmother claims that the visions come easiest when she's relaxed. This has given Nerine almost an obsessive drive to keep herself busy. She'll keep her mind working on difficult problems late into the night or tire herself out physically before crashing to bed. She ignores her dreams and will wake up at first light to start the trial over again. This lack of sleep often leaves her with dark bags under her eyes and a sense of frailty.
Nerine's ambitious and determined to reach her goals. She just needs to learn patience to go along with it. As is, she wants things to happen now. She hates indecision and being uninformed. This can lead her to jumping too quickly into a course of action.
Nerine actually is rather friendly, even if she doesn't let people in too close. She likes being around people, especially those who are willing to have an animated conversation or play games with her. She's very self driven and likes to take the lead in activities.
Positive: Determined, Ambitious, Self-driven, Social Negative: Stubborn, Impatient, Controlling
Ambition: Auror Habits: Fidgets, yawning fits, 'shakes' herself awake Hobbies: Logic puzzles or riddles, quidditch (plays Chaser), often found just practicing her spell work - particularly charms and transfiguration Likes: being active physically and mentally, classes, challenges, big dogs, snakes, Dislikes: 'Oracles', being alone, being bored, cats, Grandma Maggie, Three words to describe your character: Determined, Controlling, Self-DrivenSlytherin Capricorn The traits emphasized here will be ambition, determination, discipline, and pragmatism. You can't make that castle in the sky if you don't build a solid foundation under it, and Capricorns excel at building foundations. (Actually, they excel at planning the foundations and directing others to do the grunt labour. It's not that they're afraid to get their hands dirty, but large work usually requires delegation and a staff, and Capricorns are managers more often than not.) While not flamboyant or showy about it, Capricorns still tend to be obsessive overachievers, a common trait in House Slytherin. Too, wizards born under the sign of Capricorn are good at being discreet, secretive, and diplomatic; whereas the Libra's diplomacy is based on charm and a desire for harmony, the Capricorn's diplomacy is based on the knowledge that being on good terms with people is extremely useful in getting one's way or finding out sensitive information. These also are traits commonly associated with House Slytherin. They might not be sexy traits, but they're very handy. Source The Sorting: It was tempting to place her into Ravenclaw, the Hat was used to people such as her being a perfect fit for that house. Hers was not a scholastic life though. While she'd focus hard on her studies, learning, reading and the accumulation of knowledge was not her passion. This young violet haired girl wanted to DO something. To BE something. With her ambition and desire for control the Hat decided that Slytherin House would be the best to guide her into her destiny. They would be able to hone her into the weapon she could be.
Boggart: Herself, as an old woman, struck dumb and blind by the uncontrollable flood of visions. She fears losing complete control of her powers and her life, being driven mad by the images and ending up like her grandmother.
A redikulus charm would turn the gibbering old woman before her into a caricature of a medium covered in filmy veils and fake coins, the kind muggles pretended to be who would fake 'possessions' and speak in dramatic voices as they knocked on the bottoms of their tables. This idiotic vision muggles have of how Seeing works always makes her laugh.
Mirror of Erised: She would see her self either free of, or in total control of her abilities. Working as an Auror in a big city, solving crimes better than any other.
Patronus:
Greatest Treasure: Oren, the little Pine Woods snake her father bought for her before she left for Hogwarts. He's always with her, if not in her hands then curled around her neck or in her book bag.
Manner of Dress: Nerine tries not to draw too much attention to herself, she's usually seen in the standard girls uniform in muted pastels. Nothing bold or eye grabbing outside of her naturally purple hair and eyes. She wears skirts almost year round unless the weather is particularly bad and she must go outside.
Favorite Class: Transfiguration. It takes a lot of concentration to preform each task, something she's quite willing to give as it allows her to block out a lot of the outside influences that cause her private grief.
Worst Class: History, while at times it helps for her to copy down reams of notes, it's notoriously dull and she has a difficult time keeping herself as active as she likes without getting into trouble for being a disturbance.

The Delphinias's and The Garret's The Garret's
Father: Thomas Garret
Grandfather: Charles Garret
Grandmother: Holly Brown
The Delphinias's
Mother: Felicia Delphinias
Grandfather: Simon Fletcher
Grandmother: Jeanie Delphinias
Great-Grandmother: Maggie Delphinias
- basic info will be filled in later - - Matriarchal Family -
History: Nerine was raised in a small town in the southernmost peninsula of Cornwall. Her mother's family has lived there for more generations they can count, their eccentricities warmly tolerated by the residents. No one's known a time when a Delphinias mystic didn't live in the quaint old house surrounded by willow trees. Most of the family names living there, magical or not, can trace their heritage back to the Delphinias at some point.
Such is the case of her father's family, a mostly muggle line, connected to the Delphinias about 8 generations back. History has it that it branched off when one of their daughters was born a squib, marrying a muggle man and taking his name. The natural draw to divination among the Garrets seems to prove this connection.
The Garret line produces wizards and muggles (no longer referred to as squibs) in about equal proportions and work carefully together to keep themselves and other wizarding families hidden and safe from tourists and the few purely muggle families nearby. Thomas and Felicia naturally grew up near each other and while he'd shown no magic as a child, both were pleasantly surprised when his acceptance letter was delivered by the same owl that brought hers. Their friendship lasted throughout school though they were sorted to different houses and after school they dated for a short time and eventually married.
Nerine was born not long after their wedding, causing some to think the ceremony was rushed. While the two's friendship would never fade, their romantic interest in each other would wane. They divorced when Nerine was still a toddler, Felicia moving back in with her mother and grandmother to raise their child.
The mutual decision to split caused little scandal and relations between the families remained intact. Thomas provides what he can for his daughter, and visits her often.
Nerine was a happy enough child. Because she'd known nothing else, the separation of her parents didn't bother her. The only spot on her childhood was Great-Grandma Maggie. The old woman was the last true Seeress of the Delphinias line, the trait having almost died out completely with the mixing of muggle blood. Her childhood and early life was a mystery to the living relatives, Maggie is in no fit state of mind to tell them. Most of what she says is incoherent at best, wild ramblings at worst. No one knows if what she says are true prophecies or conjuring of a damaged mind. She's kept within the families home for the most part, watched carefully and allowed no farther than the fenced back yard for her own safety. It's been decades since she's lifted her wand for anything.
Her daughter, Jeannie and her husband Simon were never able to explain when or why the woman's mind went, Jeannie's father passed away when she was still a child. They just learned to live with her and taught their children to do so as well.
When Nerine's abilities started to manifest, at first her parents thought she had an active imagination, though things she sometimes told them were eerily accurate to events in their own pasts. It was one such revelation, spoken in front of Maggie that spawned her first moments of clarity in her grandchildren's lives. She leaned forward in her rocking chair and cackled, grabbing 7 year old Nerine's chin in her wrinkled hands. "You my dear shall know my suffering!" She turned a suddenly sharp gaze to Felicia and Thomas. "You mark my words, she'll See through time like you never have." The old woman's gaze returned to Nerine's, lavendar eyes meeting their mirror. She reached into the folds of her robe and withdrew an ancient wand, shining pale wood that while old, displayed it's age well. She pressed it into Nerine's hands. "You'll want this I'm sure." Another cackle returned the ancient woman to her seat and she refused to speak, even to ramble for the rest of the day.
Nerine avoided her from then on, terrified of even being in the same room. As her powers grew the once outgoing child retreated into herself, growing quiet and jumpy. Neither family knew what they could do to help her, the only one with any experience couldn't be persuaded into another fit of sanity, even if the child could be convinced to come within 10 feet of her.
It was both a relief and a horror to be sent to Hogwarts, to escape the small town where everyone knew of her oddities and yet to be surrounded by so many objects and people that could inspire her visions.

Trunk Wand: (info paraphrased from Hogwarts Wikia)
Nerine's wand is an heirloom, passed down to her from her maternal grandmother who also bore a seeress's power.
Wood: Silver Lime; The reasons for these wands’ desirability lay not only in their unusually handsome appearance, but also because they had a reputation for performing best for Seers and those skilled in Legilimency, mysterious arts both, which consequently gave the possessor of a silver lime wand considerable status.
Core: Dragon Heartstring; As a rule, dragon heartstrings produce wands with the most power, and which are capable of the most flamboyant spells. Dragon wands tend to learn more quickly than other types. While they can change allegiance if won from their original master, they always bond strongly with the current owner. It is also the most prone of the three cores to accidents, being somewhat temperamental.
Length: 10 1/4 Inches; Neater wands favour elegant and refined spell-casting.
Rigidity: Slightly Bendy; Rigidity or flexibility of a wand characterises the willingness to change and adapt of the wand-and-wizard pair.
School Uniform: - 3 sets of work robes - one pointed hat - one pair of dragonhide gloves - heavy winter cloak
School Supplies: 1 Pewter Cauldron 1 set of crystal phials 1 telescope 1 set brass scales Required Text Books 2 wells of Black Ink 4 Quills
