A Wandering Esper

Beloved Stargazer

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."They do barter here, yes." The dragon king answered. Perhaps one day the mortals would make their own monetary system again, divide themselves in castes as they once had, but it had not happened, at least not yet, this close to the pantheon.

But really, it might be easier than Ifan thought it. He had, after all, a god at his side, and he had to admit divinity had its perks. The mortals here believed and were eager to please the passing deities, to gain attention. The mortal was not the only one who could barter, in a way.

"Excellent." If there was one thing he knew, it was how to barter. Not that he had much. Maybe they would be interested in his watch or his skills.
"Well, I'm looking for some oil, and perhaps some parts for an engine. So anything that looks mechanical really."

He walked closer to the stalls, allowing his green eyes to take in the wares on display. The first few seemed to be dedicated to accessories and clothes, they were of good quality. Especially the glass jewelry.
"The workmanship here is good." He said, picking up a bracelet of glass beads.

They each draw inspiration from sources that would have otherwise been unavailable to them..." It did fascinate him, to see mortals with such talent. He was not very skilled at small detailwork, and could respect those who did no matter their actual status.

Sure enough, there was plenty of variety in the actual beings running the stails - plenty of elves, normal humans, and some... Well, some rather strange beings indeed, through the god showed no surprise at seeing them. He did stop as Ifan admired the bracelet, tail wagging idly behind him as he peered at the rest of the stand.

Ifan nodded, his sister would like the bracelet, though as he did not have much he placed it back on the table and moved to the next stall. Already he was thinking of possibilities. He had arrived there with the intention of scoping out the resources for people back home, but now ... he was considering going back and bringing his siblings. It was a much better place, they could set up their own business, he was sure his skills would be useful.

"Do you think there might be a need for engineers here?" He asked, spotting a stall with metalic looking objects out of the corner of his eye.

Again, he was patient as the mortal stopped, stopping in turn. He'd been much like this when he had first stumbled upon the market, so he could understand.

Ifan spotted a couple of old tools on the stall his eyes were exploring.
"I'm thinking of bringing my brother and sisters here. It's nice. Where I'm from it's all mines and factories. Here, we could be our own bosses." he shrugged. It was a simple wish, a selfish one perhaps but something he wanted for his family. Plus he thought living near gods would be very beneficial.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. All mines and factories ? Really, he could not picture himself living in such a place. Not in any sort of happiness, at any rate. He could tolerate cities much better than Illisia had, but there was still only so much he could take before he could start to feel stifled. He was so used to being one with nature, with the earth and the water, to truly thrive in any other way.

"You could bring the idea up to them, see if they are interested ?"

Ifan nodded. He never thought that he would be thinking of leaving the community he had grown up within, but really, what was left for them now thier parents were gone.
"I think I might just do that." He smiled and picked up the tools. "Would you take my watch for these?" He asked the stall holder, showing the watch. It was a good one and had been kept in working order.

They did the deal and Ifan gathered the tools up.
"Now all i need is some oil."

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Xun Jiang was silent as Ifan bartered for something he needed, gaze wandering to the nearby stalls with open curiosity. Those fine silks there looked mighty interesting, but... Oh, Lindita would probably faint if he forgot to take them off before shifting. The poor dear.

"Oil ?" He asked, watching the boy gather his acquired tools, ready to offer help in carrying the bundles if he needed it. One only had so many hands, really, and he wouldn't mind. "You mean like... cooking oil ?"

...Well. To the dragon king's excuse, neither he or Illisia had been very knowledgeable about machinery.
PostPosted: Fri Mar 02, 2012 10:09 am

Ifan glanced back at the god and smiled.
"No, engine oil. Though ..." He pondered this thought for a moment. People had used cooking oil before, hippies and other eco warriors. He remembered watching a show where they went round restaurants and took their used oil. "Though, perhaps cooking oil would work. It's not great but it might be enough to get me home."

"I know there is one merchant that might have what you need..." But where was it ? Oh, it seemed like the market was bigger every time he went ! "Over there, I believe..."
PostPosted: Fri Mar 02, 2012 1:00 pm

"Oh, cool." Ifan left the stall and followed Xun across the market. "Do you think we'd be able to get a discount or something? Not sure what I'm going to trade." He smirked a little. He had a Saint medalion that he might be able to trade.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."I can try..." Mortals tended to be eager to accept trades from gods, really, and those who had stuck around long enough knew the worth of pure water, thanks to the rough times of before.

Still, there were still some who thought water from his wellsprings was well... normal water. Which it wasn't, of course, but he could see how that could be had to understand for a mortal.

"Ah, over there." He pointed toward the back, recognizing the stand.

Ifan smiled in thanks and glanced over to the stall that the god had pointed to. It seemed to be a food stall of some kind, but if he was looking for cooking oil then that would work. Ifan ran his hand through his hair and walked through the crowds of people to browse the stall.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.THe dragon king seemed to have less issues navigating the crowd - be it because of his height, or the fact that some did seem to recognize him and step out of the way. Ifan also beneficial from this, somewhat, since it was obvious that he was with the god in question.

They arrived to the stand and Xun Jiang resumed his quiet look over, expecting that Ifan would know exactly what he needed, while he wasn't so sure himself. Better to let the mortal ask his own questions.
