"That true." And it did puzzle and anger him both. Why had mortals worshiped echoes ? Why had they faded when mortals still somehow had believed in something ?
Perhaps some had seen the opportunity left behind by the fall of the gods and simply used it.
"It does ?" Oh, there was the socially awkward boyfriend, who seemed completely and utterly aware of the negative connotation of the word. "Well, if it is another god, we'll probably be able to know pretty easily." He was pretty certain he'd recognize the feel of another deity even if they were shifted.

Cosine turned back to look at him, her lips forming an amused smile. "You didn't sense it? The unease as she said the word. The word once meant a following of a deity like us, but like all things evolved to represent a false following. A group being led astray." That troubled her, that these mortals might be in danger if this cult leader, or leaders could not be trusted. "So, what was Adrian's last name?" She changed the subject completely, her mind wandering back to their talk before dinner.

"Ah... Well..." Well yes. He knew that. He really was just seeking to see if she'd noticed.
No, really.
Ahem.
"That does make sense when you put it that way. We should definitively keep an eye out." Boot to the ego ? Why, yes. He seemed all too eager for the change of subject. when it was offered.
"Kitan. Was his mother's, I believe."

"So, I'm Mrs Kitan then?" She suggested, followed by an amused laugh. "Mortals are so funny.Would that make me Mrs Spirit Guide?" It was an amusing thought, funny, the way people liked to lay claim on each other, though she supposed they were no different. Didn't she wear charms he had made her, and he a necklace she had bought him. "ooor maybe you're Mr Numbers. Yes, I think I like that better. "

"Mortals are strange." Really. But, he figured they had no other way to further define themselves, for the most part. Still, wives taking their husband's name, wouldn't that be like if they took part of their own identity away.
...Strange.
"...And that sounds even more strange than how they do it !" He couldn't help it - he laughed.

Cosine laughed too. "I don't know. I liked it." she grinned and went to investigate what was in the cupboards. "How about that, a hotel where you have to make your own bed. Though I guess she figured i'd know what to do. Not that you need to sleep."

"I wouldn't be a very good Numbers. You wouldn't want me to try." He said, grin turning impish.
"But really, who keep beds in cupboards, anyway ?" These mortals, apparently. "Through I should probably... pretend to, yes ?"
He'd have to keep his mind busy with other things, then.

Cosine nodded and dragged one of the 'beds' out. It was more like a giant long cushion really. Nothing like their beds back at the pantheon, but then everyone was different and she was willing to embrace local culture. "But, the sun isn't down yet so we have a while. Shall we have some tea and plot whilst it is still light?"

"That sounds like a good idea." Even through he'd probably drink the tea only once it had gone cold, like he almost always did.
"We definitively need to learn more about all this..."
