The spot on the second landing of the stairwell had a barricade with a small slit in it, through which you could see the top of the flight of stairs. A perfect spot for an ambush. Jordan tweaked his aim carefully and held the crouch button, smirking faintly in anticipation.
"Did I say you didn't? I don't recall saying that," he answered lightly.

"What you didn't say wasn't said like a smartass," Harrison said, rounding a corner. He had to be around here somewhere.
Is there some kinda technique to this or is it just running around?
The psychology is beyond you, B0nez said, Just keep moving.
That sounds a lot like just running around, Harrison mentally grumbled.

"It's a specialty," Jordan said lightly. "Years of practice spent honing lingual skills to a razor-edged sharpness." He watched the stairs carefully; there, a flicker of movement coming into view. Bang.
Against a practiced gamer, he wouldn't be doing anywhere near as well. He might, however, be slightly better at this than Harrison. He said nothing, but his mouth curled up in a small, evil smile.

Harrison slammed the mouse down maybe harder than was necessary as his screen washed over in a now-familiar red.
"Special razor lingo my a**, that's being distracting on purpose, you cheating s**t!"
Can't walk and talk at the same time?
Shut up! This is your fault in the first place! They weren't even at best 2 out of 3 at this point, this sucked. You see if I do you any more favors!

"Actually," Jordan pointed out, "that was a trap setup. I think the area's designed for it. There's a barricade and a sniper slot. Using the environment's not cheating." His grin got wider. "I wasn't trying to be distracting, anyway. I could start."
Wow, Ferros observed, you're being a jerk. The dragon snickered, though, clearly every bit as amused.
... He kind of was. Jordan contemplated that, but couldn't quite be sorry about it.

Harrison barely heard Jordan's attempt at a learning experience.
Trying to get you through a game is like trying to type with oven mitts. N00b doesn't begin to describe it.
So UU about it, I don't even like shooting games. "You're going to complain so much then you do it!" Harrison said.
It's QQ, you can't even think it right.
Harrison pulled what looked like a keychain out of his pocket. "You think you're smart too but you keep it up and you're spending the night in the hamper," Harrison leveled a threatening finger at Jordan, "Don't think you're off the hook either. One more round. Winner take all."

"Unfortunately, that solution doesn't keep you from having to listen to him," Jordan said, amused. "You could start thinking about an annoying song, but that's kind of its own punishment." He took a moment to link his fingers together and stretch lazily, then smiled cheerfully at Harrison. "Sure. Takes all of what?"
He moved down the stairs to the street below, sticking close to the buildings and debating with himself. What would be the more interesting outcome? ... He'd have to make it convincing.
A sneaky jerk, Ferros amended.
You already knew that.

"Don't go giving him ideas, he does that enough already," Harrison growled. And it doesn't matter what you talk about, you'll still be wrapped up in a dirty sock.
Wub wub wub, B0nez said, dropping into deadstep just to be irritating.
"And it's just a saying, what, you want to make a bet?" Harrison was always up for lining his pockets.

Jordan laughed. "It's an effective tactic, but either way, both of you end up having to listen to it." He shrugged. "Sure, what stakes? Not too much, I'd hate to clean you out." He leaned on one elbow and smiled brightly, an I-know-I'm-driving-you-nuts expression.

Harrison was not to be deterred, weird noises or s**t-eating grins notwithstanding. And he was going to wipe that smile off his face soon enough.
"Well if you're chicken, we can keep the stakes low. ...A hundred dollars friendly enough?"

"Works for me." Jordan shrugged, not rising to the bait, in spite of Ferros's growl at the insult. He eyed Harrison thoughtfully. He probably could win, but he'd injured Harrison's pride a fair amount already; whether the blond man was really taking it seriously he couldn't quite tell. Oh, well. It wasn't like he was doing anything with the money anyway.
"Get ready to lose," he said lightly. Even if he was planning to miss, he didn't want it to look like it.
