Luke gestured for his companion to present the coat to the cashier as the queue reached them, presenting his card to pay for the item. He glanced to the kid - Emil - as he gave his name and promptly looked away, donning his usually forced air of disinterest. "'M Luke," he replied simply, pocketing the receipt as it was handed to him and stepping away from the line. "Anything else you need, long as we're out here?" His tone was rough again, a quality which Emil might have started to understand usually accompanied any of the young noble's offerings of goodwill.

When prompted, Emil gave the jacket to the cashier and simply waited as the item was rung up and Luke paid for it. Wow.. the guy even had his own credit card? That was amazing. He couldn't even dream of such a thing. His aunt and uncle hardly ever let him have anything. Thus the boy could only marvel at the exchange.

When the red head gave his name in return, Emil smiled just a little. "That's a nice name," he said quietly while taking back the coat and putting it on. But the question from Luke drew pause before he shook his head. "N-no... I think I'm okay. Thank you very much, Luke."

The arbitrary compliment caught Luke off guard, and he folded his arms with a huff, as if the comment were something that that he found offensive. His expression, however, as much as it tried to look indignant, betrayed only the fluster that comes from unexpected flattery. He instead directed his attention to the sprawling shopping district on the other side of the department store's sliding glass doors as he wandered back into the city proper. He raised his hands and folded them behind his head, taking a few idle steps forward before turning slightly to address Emil, "What brings you to Camphoreon anyway? Doesn't seem like you were too prepared to visit." A nosy, tactless question, perhaps, but the best effort at conversation Luke could think to give.

Emil just smiled at the huffy response from Luke and followed him out of the store, putting his hands in the pockets of his new jacket. It felt far less cold out here now that he had something to wear. But the question from the red head did cause his smile to fade.

Well it was kind of obvious by now wasn't it? Emil had been starving and cold, with no money whatsoever. It was reasonable question, and the boy couldn't help a small sigh.

"Um... well I just needed to get away from home. I kind of left in a hurry."

There was a surprisingly genuine, if not slight, laugh, and Luke dropped his hands to his pockets and his gaze to the empty sidewalk ahead, though a unwitting smile accompanied his reply, "Sounds familiar. A lot like me, actually. 'Cept I came in summer and it didn't really matter if I didn't have a coat." He grinned bitterly at the memory, recalling his fumbling grasp of the basics of exchanging payment for goods and services and his confused navigation of the city. He cast a sidelong glance at his company, "Well anyway... Don't worry about it, if you can help it. Camphoreon's a good place for relaxing."

Emil's green eyes went wide in surprise for a moment as Luke laughed and then explained his own situation. "Huh? Really?" Of all things, he had not expected to find someone else who had been in the same place he was. This and Luke's change in demeanor helped him to relax even more. "O-okay."
Danish, beamed happily as it seemed that Emil was finally making a friend. He didn't really have any back in Makko Town.

Because Luke didn't especially like talking about the circumstances surrounding his visit to the region, he assumed that Emil similarly preferred to let the issue go without discussion, and so he pressed the matter no further. Instead, he hummed idly, letting the sound lead into a different question, "You know where you're staying?" He remembered Rosie's recommendations and assistance when he had first arrived in Camphoreon, and so he understood the severity of the answer well enough to concern himself with it.

Emil was quietly grateful that Luke didn't press any further. It wasn't something he really liked to talk about. Not that he would have lied or anything if Luke had asked, but still.. he'd rather avoid it. The boy then shook his head. "No. I haven't figured that out yet."

After all, Emil had been pretty much sleeping out in the open on the way here, so he hadn't stopped to consider that it might not be a good idea in the middle of a big city.

"Huh." It was a contemplative sound, though only briefly so, as if his wonder had been answered just as soon as it was given too. "Just come with me then," he said abruptly, starting down the sidewalk at a pace that could be called idle but would increase to a normal speed when it became certain that Emil was following. "We'll figure something out back in the room." If all else failed, Luke certainly had no issues with lending the space of his own quarters to the boy.

Emil paused to blink in disbelief as he was told to follow him back to his room. But after a moment or two he seemed to snap out of it.

"O-okay," he agreed before trotting after Luke in order to catch up and match his pace. Although he continually followed just behind the red headed boy. Could it be that he actually managed to make a friend? Kind of? Sort of? This thought made Emil smile a little. He didn't know that there were such kind people around. All he'd know, or could remember anyway, were his aunt and uncle and the neighborhood bullies.
