[PRP] Time waits for no one. (Cascade x Kafun)

When Cascade woke it was to a world of light and birds, a familiar scent attacking her nose. Her head tilted to the side to spot Kafun, heart skipping a beat. She remembered, and her ears flipped back as she watched him sleep. For a second she hovered there, considering nuzzling him awake. Closing her eyes tight, she turned and left the cave.

She padded ahead, stopping near a trees where Kafun could see her if he left the cave. Her muzzle rested on her paws, ignoring the rumble in her stomach as she eyed the cave, looking away to the side.

What was she going to do?

Kafun was still in a deep sleep when Cascade got up. He was slowly coming out of it but not quick enough for his senses to pick up that she had walked by him and out of the cave.

His ears slowly began to twitch as it picked up the worlds morning sounds. His nose and eyes scrunched up as morning light began to pour itself into the cave and dance across his face. His eyes slowly opened as he yawned and glanced around. He instantly noticed that Cascade was gone. This caused him to jump up to his feet as his heart stopped. He practically ran out of the cave.

But his run came quickly to an end when he spotted her up ahead. He slowed down and tried to calm his breathing from his panic attack. He padded up to her and spoke softly, "Good Morning Cascade."

] She saw him run briefly, eyebrow raised. Was he worried she left? A slight smile touched her face, briefly, before she viewed him quietly, nodding gently.

"Good morning." She whispered, offering the male a hesitant smile. She seemed more friendly now that she had sleep. She opened her mouth, about to speak when her stomach loudly announced its hunger, a blush playing across her features. Oh...that was embarrassing! Her paws covered her blush, looking away.

Kafun's tail wagged as he got a morning greeting back. He was glad to see her out in the sun. She seemed to be a little better.

He let out a chuckle when he heard her stomach growl. "Would you like some breakfast? There is plenty to scare up around here if you would like."

Cascade watched the male, head tilting as her blush deepened when he chuckled. Her tail flicked infront of her mouth, nodding slightly.

"If you would like." She didn't mind, though she wasn't a fan of hunting and never had been. She had once attempted being a vegetarian, but that did not work out well once she realized she had no idea what was edible and what wasn't, poisoning herself quickly. She had decided to stick to meat after that.

Kafun's chest started to swell with male pride. He had gotten her to blush and she didn't seem mad about it so he took it as a good thing. Not that he had intended for her to but that it happened was good enough for him.

"We can find whatever you like. Your tummy seems to be saying that you want something eatable. I'll be more than happy to oblige and help you find something." he told her while standing back up that way he could easily head off in any direction.

She nodded, seeming to have finally come back to her senses. Nodding, again, she stood and stretched, body stiff and cracking as she moved. The girl turned to view Kafun, ear flicking.

"Something small? Like a rabbit?" She mewed back, preparing herself for a hunt. Her stomach rumbled, again, and she blushed lightly and looked away, ears flipping against her head as her tail twitched. Oh, be quiet, stomach!

Kafun moved to stretch out his muscles so that he didn't pull anything while hunting. Now that would be embarrassing. Out hunting trying to impress your girl and getting a leg cramp and falling over onto the forest floor twitching with pain. Not his idea of impressing.

"Something small huh? That can be worked out. There are rabbits here and some birds maybe a sickly fawn? There is always some fruit and nuts." He said while waiting for her to be ready. He moved to take point to show the direction they would be heading.

She was relieved when the male agreed, ears flicking once more. She allowed him to take lead, though she wouldn't mind if she did. She didn't want to put too much stress on him. Her eyes drew across his frame, tightening. This man had once slept beside her. He had once been with her, close and warm, and they had once even considered children. Now? She.... what were they? What was she willing to be to him? Did she want that back? Or did she finally feel like she didn't need him?

No. She had always felt like she needed him...

"Ah. I don't mind what we do. I'm not really fond of hunting, so I don't do it much, so I may be a bit clumsy." She admitted quietly, tail curling around one of her back legs.

Pride was swelling threw his body as he began to lead the way. He knew she was perfectly capable of leading in fact he used to follow her where ever when they would decided to head of to a new place. But he wanted to get her her meal he wanted to provided for her so all she had to do was relax and by allowing him to lead kind of gave him that sense that he was. His thoughts where on the here and now. They werent looking forward or behind he was just happy to have her there with him at that moment.

"That's fine Cascade no worries. Like I said we will get something one way or another."

"Alright." She was finding it easier to give him shorter answers. Her voice felt tight whenever she spoke to him, worried she'd say something wrong or perhaps give away the insecurities she felt. The shorter she spoke the safer she was, right? There was no commitment behind one word answers.

He was being kind to her, even though she knew he noticed the change in her personality. She was quieter and subdued as opposed to before. She was older, no longer so young that everything was exciting to her. She no longer desired excitement, either. What she wanted was security in her life, something to actually rely on. She wanted her heart to stop pounding and aching. Why? She had spent so many years thinking and wishing Kafun would return, and now he was here and all she could think of was running away. She was so afraid, afraid that when or if she gave in he'd vanish. That he wouldn't want her anymore. She was terrified.

Kafun heard the tightness in her voice as she spoke. This sent worry through him. What was it that could be upsetting her. He knew it was something in her thoughts but hadn't a clue to what. It could be some many things. He glanced back at her casting her a worried look. He wanted to ask what was up... but didn't know when. After mulling things over in his head he decided he would ask after they had gotten her some breakfast.

She caught that glance, smiling weakly in response. She couldn't muster a legitimate smile, not with these suffocating thoughts that were drowning any other emotion that tried to surface. She felt like she was stuck within reality and her thoughts, and perhaps she hoped for one to win. She wanted an answer. She wanted something to tell her whether it was worth it to try being with him again or it was high time to walk away. She needed it, she needed proof.

As they walked she watched Kafun, longing to just give in and rub against his cheek and side. However, she had more respect for herself than that. She couldn't just throw herself back at him, not without a promise. Not without something finally making it clear that she would not go years without contact. She needed something.

As they walked the silence began to thicken. Never before had they had such an awkward silence. But this was to be expected he supposed as he thought about it. They hadn't seen each other in years. They both semi to actually tried to move on from the other. There were plenty of thoughts and feelings tied into this all. It really did call for a heavy air.

He soon started to get sucked down into his own thoughts when he heard a faint snap that seemed to echo in his ears. They prey knew they were here and was trying to escape. He couldn't let that happen. He had to feed is beautiful water colored vixen. With out even thinking his body launched into the woods to his left following the sounds of smaller feet hitting the ground in their mad dash to live.

Her ears snapped up as suddenly Kafun dashed off. He was gone before she could follow, her head lowering and a gentle whine escaping her. Where had he gone? Would he ever return? Would he vanish like he had before? Was she alone again? Heart hammering, the woman tried to follow, however ended up horribly lost.

She didn't want to lose him again, not when she just found him. No. She rather he never returned if that was the case. Even if she had her doubts... Even if she didn't know what she wanted she knew she didn't want him to vanish again. She needed him! She needed him to stay! Her heart hammered harder as she frantically glanced about, ears flicked back.
