Zero Dream
Indeed, Illisia did not look, and she was, in fact, completely serious. Not so long ago the thought had been extremely odd for the elf herself, but now she had kind of... gotten used to it.

The trip to the pantheon was fairly short, as Illisia had said - however, in a rather amusing reversal of situations, she did nearly trip into the cracks of the broken concrete a few times - the last time earning a hissed word in a foreign language which, from her tone of voice, certainly meant nothing pleasant.

Soon after that, however, they were at the familiar gardens, and Illisia paused for a moment, as if suddenly remembering something... which was indeed the case. Damnit. Lindita. It would be much better to just warn him than just hope she might be off into one of her crazy ideas of hers. (like the night elf needed any furniture)

"Just as a warning, there's an aoidei..." Did Laurence know about aoidei ? "She's Xun's servant. She's a demoness, but she's harmless. Xun trusts her, and well... I've seen kittens be more worry-worthy. She might be off onto one of her little treks, though..." It was evident from her tone that she was not quite happy with the development herself, but what else could she do ? "Ill tell her not to bother you, when im able to talk to her. She'll listen." Lindita had listened to everything else so far. She was, after all, the face of her lord, at the moment. And Illisia was starting to hold some trust to the demoness. Slowly.

And beside, if she caused any trouble, she certainly could kick her a** three ways to sunday.

With that said, she started to go up the stairs. "Over here."

Tsunake
The priest did his best not to smile a little as the tide turned when nature turned into man made landscape, and it was his turn to keep an eye on the tall, graceful woman to make sure she wouldn't fall. The language was strange, almost musical, but definitely filled with a venom so potent that there was no need to explain the nature of her words. Curses were universal, that way.

A deep breath was taken as though to inhale the sweet scent of the gardens, relishing the peace that came with it. There was no doubt in his mind that God was here, somewhere, calming everyone within the Pantheon. Illisia's next words made him pause, unconsciously twitching despite himself even as he paused to look at her.

"...I see." His voice was a little strained, and though the woman beckoned to him with her words, he found his feet suddenly glued to the stone. "...Perhaps, it might be best, if I come by later." Though he was attempting to speak calmly and casually, he knew he sounded a little hoarse. "A door with a tree on it, you said?"

A demon. He wasn't sure if he could tolerate that, not so soon after his possession and his encounter with Jin and his household of the foul ilk. Maybe he only needed a moment to breathe--he didn't know.

Zero Dream
Illisia frowned a bit, in an odd mix of worry and general annoyance. Annoyance at Lindita making things difficult, mind you, not at Laurence's reaction, which in her mind was perfectly warranted.

"Yes." She nodded. It was the best way to describe her door, really. "I could go check if she's here first, if you want... ? If not, well... No one seemed to mind when I slept in one of the tea houses when I first came here. The cushions are pretty comfortable. There was enough of them for me to lay on, so you shouldn't have much problems with that." Part of her would much prefer keeping the priest close, at least for now. They were kin, in a way.

And she had no qualms in making the demoness go elsewhere for awhile.

And where do you wish her to go ?

Don't know, don't care.

I really wish you would be more respectful of our aoidei... Xun grumbled a bit, though even he seemed to recognize the need... And, well, it was not like he could do much as it was now.

Im not being disrespectful to your aoidei, im asking her not to freak out the priest. Completely different things, yes. Stop acting like im kicking her a**. I don't want her to bother Laurence, that's all. She had to put up with her presence, even if she was slowly getting to know and somewhat trust her, but she wouldn't force Laurence to do so when he was clearly uncomfortable. She'd simply assumed it was because he usually fought them and did not pry - not that she would have when he was so uncomfortable to begin with.

"There's the trees too. They always seem to bear fruit." A change of subject might help, perhaps ?

Tsunake
The man, clearly, was torn.

A servant of my brother would never harm you, Laurence. She is in his services, and is sworn to serve him. Still, the dragon understood, and would not goad the man into doing anything he didn't want to. He was just pointing out the facts, the truth as he knew it.

It felt rude, to deny her and Xun's kindness after so long, and with a slow, uneasy breath, the priest would offer a nod. "If. If you wouldn't mind sending her away, at least for a brief time--" His voice broke off for a moment, and he turned away with hardened expression.

"Forgive him brother, Illisia. If you could comply, we would be most grateful." Shuo spoke up. This was Laurence's tale to tell, and the priest wasn't about to do so anytime soon.

Laurence offered only a mute nod. If the demon was not there, he would be happy to come see. Hell, so long as he was cautious when he returned to see her after meeting with Lord Creation, he might be able to even tolerate the presence, at least for a time. He wouldn't be rude or unreasonable, not to one of Shuo's siblings, but he would remain wary and on his toes.

"Do they?" He commented, slightly distracted, but willing to focus on fruit trees. "You pluck them, they grow back?" Was that the work of their Lord?

Zero Dream
"Completely understandable. Im sure she won't mind." At least, she wouldn't have much choice but to listen. Still, the night elf didn't pry, didn't ask.

"Im not sure, actually." She mused out loud. "It just seems that no matter how many people take them, there's always some ripe and ready to pick still." She wasn't the only one to serve herself in those trees, which she had assumed were for exactly that and that she was allowed. She started to walk up the stairs now, tossing her braid back over her shoulder. "It just seems odd to me. Fruit don't normally grow this fast." But Creation's influence's, perhaps...

The hall was, indeed, full of doors, close to each other, with each looking different, and giving hint as to who would reside inside. Illisia walked down until she reached her own, and turned to face Laurence again. "It shouldn't be long..."

With that, she slipped inside, with only a hint of greenery, fresh air, and the sound of running water betraying what would await inside.

Tsunake
"Thank you." The priest muttered, falling silent as he followed after the slender, elegant woman, feeling some of the tension in his chest slowly begin to unwind. It was easier to focus on her words, and he was quiet for a time before he replied.

"Wish that sort of food could be available for other people." He mused almost to himself. There had been so much hunger worldwide, so many that were starving. But soon enough, he prayed, things would eventually right themselves again, now that the worst of the danger seemed to have passed. "I'll have to take a look at them, maybe." Which was his way of saying he hadn't looked at them before, but now Illisia had piqued his interest.

His eyes slid over the doors, unconsciously looking for a plain green one. He offered a curt nod, and Floox, as though sensing the man's unease, leapt from the night elf's shoulder to scurry up the man's leg. Surprised, his fingers were gentle against the little creature's back.

All he could do was wait for her return, eyes glimpsing what honestly looked like yet another wilderness, just behind that door. How could that even... Well. He wasn't going to question it. For now, he just tried to focus on whether or not he could sense any demon taint.

Zero Dream
It didn't take long before the door opened again, with Illisia peeking out of the opening. That was the advantage with her room, per-se - it was a vast, open space. She could see pretty much everything she needed to see at a glance. "She's not here, you can come in." She wasn't quite sure what Lindita had gotten in her mind this time, but for once she was glad for it. If all the aoidei were like her, then the gods must be pretty bored in their spare time.

She turned back inside then, leaving the door open so that Laurence could come in. It was indeed a wilderness behind that door - rather dim, but the plants did not seem to mind. There were a few saplings there and there, proving that it was indeed soil and not floor behind their feet, and a stone path leading toward a large lake and a waterfall. There were a chair and a table somewhere off the side, but given that Illisia was heading away from the furniture, it probably didn't see much use from her.

Tsunake
Though the priest wouldn't breathe a sigh of relief, the tension would ease subtly from his body, and after a moment, would follow Illisia back into her home. He had to pause for a moment, if only to take all the scenery in with an expression that could be described as one of wonder. It was as though they'd never gone inside at all, and he found himself glancing up at the ceiling, as though searching for walls, or something to put a barrier to this natural wilderness before he'd step inside, unsure if he should tug the door behind him or not. He would.

It was almost too much to take in, and he found his eyes wandering everywhere even as he belatedly made sure to follow his hostess. A waterfall, a lake... He'd step onto the stone steps as an afterthought, not knowing where they were headed in this dim, soothing place, but not minding so much either.

"This is nuts." He would eventually voice aloud, his tone filled with wry amusement.

Zero Dream
"It is." She agreed, but as she turned to look back at him, she was smiling. "It's amazing, isn't it ? I certainly didn't think... well, the first version was lacking." She made a face. "But there's no limit of logic to this. To these places... It could be shaped however the owner want. Xun kind of helped me with it. Mostly just telling me to stop trying to think like it was a building."

There was a roof, very high up and covered in wines and foilage - dark and barely distinguishable. There was also a large, open skylight right over the lake, allowing the fresh air to come inside.

Illisia stopped near the lake, sitting down on the grass. "There's a pile of cushions over there." She pointed to the left. "You can nap there if you want, I don't mind sleeping in the grass." She did so every now and then, after all.

"The saplings grow very quickly." She mused out loud, noticing that small shoots were already peeking out of where they were planted on the side. She hadn't known if they would grow or not, without light, but... It had to be Creation's magic, no doubt about it.

Tsunake
"Amazing." Laurence did have to agree, still struck by how bizarre this was. Of course, her words only served to confuse him, brows furrowing for a moment. Shaped the way the owner wants...? "So you made this? This was your idea?" To say he was impressed was an understatement, though one couldn't deny that he was a little bewildered, as well. "Where'd you say you found this room, again?" Were they all like this?

Cushions... He would head that way until he found some, dragging a few back over so he could seat himself more comfortably next to Illisia. "Nap's sounding pretty good right now." He muttered, stretching out with one of them underneath his head. Floox curled up on his chest.

His eyes slid to observe these saplings in question, and he made a thoughtful sound. "Soon you'll have a whole forest to yourself, if that's true. Bet that isn't something you'd mind..."

Zero Dream
"Mine and Xun. We kind of decided together." She answered. "I didn't find it, per-se. Lord Harmodius gave it to me. He told me to look for the door and it was there." Perhaps he made them as they were requested, one of the blank door turning into something at that time ?

She wondered just what was behind these blank doors...

The night elf just smiled, resisting the urge to push one bang of his hair away from his face, like she used to do for Elik when he had been young. It brought a pang inside, but she did her best to ignore it.

"I wouldn't." She agreed, still smiling, but some of her melancholy slept though in her voice. "Rest." She whispered. "Ill make sure no one bother you."

Tsunake
Another gift from their Lord... The priest was struggling to stay awake, ready to prop himself up on an elbow if it would keep him a little more alert. He wasn't big on being rude to people he could honestly say he liked, and Illisia, as well as Adi, had fallen into that category. Gods were something else entirely, deserving of respect whether he liked them or not.

Still, the bid from her to rest was enough to have him finally relaxing into the cushions with a sigh. The elven woman would be true to her word, he was certain of that, and it wouldn't be long before he drifted off to sleep.

The Big Picture

Though Laurence was finally getting some well-deserved rest, Shuo Huang Zhe was not finding it nearly as easy. Getting to meet with Ti Lung after so long, and knowing that he had safely found another host with so much promise... it had both eased his own fears, and increased them. With the soothing babble of the river to help stir his thoughts, the dragon tried to think back to his first host. It was fuzzy and disorientated—and what was even worse was that there were holes in his memory. Not just small bits and pieces. In truth, it was as though the memory was entirely obliterated, and he could only remember fragments.

His failure to locate Aristogeiton in the depths of the Underworld was the most vivid, and the shame of it still seared him even now. He wanted to slither up to Him up on his belly, beg for His forgiveness. Because of his ineptitude, the Fading had taken all them all. Only by His grace and love were they given a second chance, and that was why Mang loved Him so. They all did. How did his brothers fare? Futs Lung was well on his way to reclaiming his former glory, and if his host had been anything like the Night Elf, Illisia... well, he was very impressed with Xun’s choice of host. She was a strong woman.

Laurence was a strong man in his own way. His conviction to his fate and his resilience were admirable traits—traits he’d need if this revival was to be a success. It would but a success. Another mortal would not perish in vain on his behalf. No, if he and Laurence were to fail again, Shuo did not think that there would be enough of him left to salvage. He would be too far gone—and if he was somehow able to be brought back, he would lose almost everything of himself.

It was a truly frightening thought

The dragon quietly drew in on himself, sobered by the meeting which should have been so joyous. He would not rush Laurence to meet Harmodius. He wouldn’t risk his host’s resentment, not after everything the man had sacrificed to bring him back to full strength. The destruction of the priest’s soul... that was not something the dragon could even consider doing. If it had to come to that, he would find a way to make it painless somehow—respectful. That was the very least he could do, even if they were both out to serve the greater good.

No, Shuo would not sleep for now, not with his thoughts starting to churn so violently. He would have to play this by ear, and do his best to remember more of just who he used to be. And if that were to fail? He would make his way into the worlds once more with a new identity. Perhaps it would be best if he did so. Change was inevitable, and with Laurence's strength, he could be something better than he had been.

Hey look, a floox--ffff
Meeting Enekpe, Host of Kikechum
Joint #07

Tsunake
You can't be serious. Truly? The dragon had been trying to reason with him for an hour now, and Laurence wasn't having any of it.

"She said once of her other ones died. She can have this one." The man jerked his thumb unnecessarily towards the little creature currently latched onto his shoulder, watching him patiently with dark eyes.

Shuo didn't have anything to say to that. He wouldn't even sigh with disappointment. How could he, really? It was true that one of Adi's flooxes had died, and, as taken as he was with the vigorous Immortal, he would rather see a smile come to the wolf-girl's face. If I thought your motives to be entirely selfless, I might actually be impressed. Came the sigh, but there was a wry tinge of playfulness.

"Shut up." Laurence snorted, biting back his own amusement even as he stretched his legs out. It was nice, being back in the gardens of the Pantheon again. A plain green door, Adi had said... That probably meant it would be in one of the major building-like structures, right? That's what he was assuming, and headed that way without further ado.

Meepfur
Several feet away from the man, garden plants rustled, and a floox burst forth - one that looked just like Adi's Phlox, in point of fact, although it wasn't him. Behind it came a slightly larger creature, giving chase to the first with a laugh. "Gonna get you~!" Enekpe called playfully, hooves and paws scrambling to keep up with the little gray animal. "You can't run forever!"

Maybe it couldn't outrun the pooka, but it could climb! The floox made a beeline for Laurence, who was already a perch for one of its kin, fully intending to scale the human and join that other floox.

Tsunake
The sound of a voice made him pause, thinking for half a second that it was a child. Unfortunately, it wasn't, and he caught sight of a grey blur that he mistakenly took for Phlox, being chased by something else. Another floox? Had to be. He didn't really have enough time to figure that A, it was bigger than Phlox, B, it was talking, C... it had hooves?

Floox squealed with surprise when the man practically jumped out of his skin when little paws scrabbled up his legs and side, swearing explosively. What the hell was going on?! He wasn't about to become the battleground for some bickering fluffballs!

"Hey!" The priest roared, expecting little teeth to accidentally sink into his skin at any moment now.

Oh, look at them! Shuo practically gushed, not at all sharing his host's sentiments towards the flooxes. Oh, but that one doesn't look like a floox at all...

Laurence was unhappily trying to fidget in place, not about to smash the newcomer off despite all his blustering. "If it's not a floox, then what is it?" He snapped, attempting to catch sight of the creature. This was not going according to plan at all.

Meepfur
"Hey!" Enekpe cried as her playmate found sanctuary, "That's not fair!" She slid to a stop and sat in front of the man to stare up at 'her' floox, which took up his unoccuppied shoulder and gave a friendly chirp at its fellow.

"I am a pooka," she answered, though he hadn't been asking her, and puffed out her jeweled chest proudly. "Can I have her back now?"

Tsunake
It talked. It talked, and it clearly was not a floox, correcting him by saying it was a pooka. He had no earthly idea what a pooka was, and found himself just staring down at the creature with an unreadable expression. Laurence was doing some very quick thinking. Floox's tail trembled a little with pleasure before he clicked back a greeting, peering around the back of the man's neck to get a better look.

How lovely. Ask her what her name is, go on! You see that gem there, yes? You know what that means. A host! How lucky they were, finding so many of their fellow kin these days! The Dragon King was delighted.

"Erm." The man knelt down to get a better look at said pooka, careful not to tip the flooxes off his shoulders. 'Sure... but first--you're a host to a god, aren't you? What's your name?" This was utterly bizarre.

Meepfur
The ridgeback craned around a little as well, sniffing amiably at the lighter-colored floox. How delightful! Not only had she won the game by finding somewhere unreachable by the pooka, there was another floox here!

"Yes," En answered, peering back up at him with her head slightly tilted. "My name's Enekpe, and her name's Kikechum. She's the Goddess of Animals. Are you a host, too?" He didn't look like any of the gods she'd met! Just a normal human, as far as she could tell.

Tsunake
Floox seemed quite taken with his new 'guest' of sorts, a series of growls and chirps flowing in a constant stream from him now. Laurence did his best to tune him out, wincing a little at the feel of paws against the back of his neck. No claws, please, no claws...

"Enekpe. Right. I'm Laurence." He introduced himself, blinking. The goddess of Animals, having taken... well, an animal as her host. Then again, humans technically were animals too, and he stopped himself before his mind could go on a tangent. "Nice to meet you, and her, too." He added, in case this Kikechum was listening. "Yeah, I'm host to Shuo Huang Zhe, Mang. He's a Dragon King." He wasn't sure if that would mean much to the little pooka, and he'd tug the left side of his coat back so she could get a glimpse of the dragon implanted above his heart. He really needed a new shirt--he'd been in these clothes for days.

"So this floox is yours?" The man asked, shifting the shoulder in question to bring the female closer to her... owner?

Meepfur
His guest was more than happy to converse, doing so with delight evident in the tone of her, uh...floox-sounds. Her long tail lashed back and forth with her enthusiasm. Laurence wouldn't have to worry about claws, but a tail to the face, maybe!

"Oh, another Dragon!" Enekpe seemed quite delighted by this, her fluffy short tail wagging quickly. "I've met Tian Yue and Jin Huang, too. How many dragons are there, anyway? It seems like an awful lot of kings in one place..."

"Well, she's k**e's," she explained, "It would be sorta weird if she was mine." A pet with a pet? Imagine that!

Tsunake
Yes, that long, fluffy tail was about grazing his nose each time it flicked, and before he could even consider sneezing, Enekpe said something that sent a jolt through both host and dragon. "Another? Do you know their titles? Like. Like." He temporarily blanked. "Er, like. Shuo is also known as Mang. Did they tell you any other names?" Jin Huang, though! That was where they'd just come from, and though he suppressed a shudder at the memory of the demons, he was pleased to know that they'd at least met one of the other dragons that En knew.

More than just Ti Lung... Ah, there are nine of us. This was excellent news, surely, and he ached to reunite with his siblings. Soon, though, soon. If they were well, they'd certainly find him once they visited the Twin Crown at last.

"Nine, he says." Laurence translated, and snorted a little at her words. "That does make sense, I suppose..." Not to mention he felt dumb for not reaching that conclusion by himself. "Did you find the gem by yourself?" He asked, scratching at his ear absently where the floox's tail continued to brush against it. Well, at least they seemed happy.

Meepfur
"They are, ummm..." Enekpe thought back on her meetings with the two dragons. "Tian Yue didn't say. He just said 'Dragon King Tian Yue.' But Jin Huang saaaaaid..."

A reminder from Kikechum, and she finished, "Futs Lung! And k**e says that if it helps, to tell you that Tian Yue is really big - like REALLY big - and kind of purple?"

Tsunake
Laurence was quiet for some time, allowing Shuo to process that information and think.

Futs Lung. The Dragon King's tone was undoubtedly fond, so pleased that he had reunited with his somewhat stuffy brother, though paused at this Tian Yue's description. Big, and purple... "I do not remember." Laurence's voice was suddenly deeper, smooth and yet apologetic. "But thank you, Enekpe, and thank you, Kikechum. Your news that yet another of my brothers are all right helps ease some of my worry." But it was Shen Lung who had apparently been absent for almost as long as he had, and the Dragon King lapsed back into unhappy silence.

Clearly his throat a little, the man tried to act as though that had been completely natural. He still wasn't used to it, and the dragon offered a wordless apology for acting without informing him first. He shrugged that off too, not terribly bothered. "So... Have you... been here long?"

Talking to an animal. This was so weird.

Meepfur
"...whoa, that was cool!" Enekpe pronounced after the Dragon King himself had spoken up. "I didn't know you could do that!"

Can you do that, k**e?

I would not know unless I tried. Perhaps later. I won't interrupt your conversation, dear one.

Once again, Enekpe had to think for a moment. It was difficult to say when there wasn't really a day or night, and she wasn't very good at keeping track of time to begin with. "A week, I think? Something like that."

Tsunake
"Trust me, I didn't either the first time." Laurence grumbled under his breath, rolling his shoulders before he remembered he had passengers aboard them. Had her goddess never spoken through her, then? Well, now that he thought about it, Illisia had to speak for her Dragon King, too.

Maybe Shuo was an exception? He had no idea.

"A week..." He mulled over it. He'd been here for less... he thought. It was rather impossible to tell time anymore with no sun or moon. He was almost surprised to see such a small creature like her in such healthy conditions; before he'd been possessed, everything had been dying.

With a sigh, he gently made to pluck up the grey ridgeback from his shoulder, setting her in front of the host. "Does she have a name?" He inquired almost absently.

I'm sure she does, and it is something more presentable than -Floox-. Shuo would have been shaking his head if he were able.

Meepfur
Of late, she had fared quite well. There was food here, and no one to whom she looked like food. She was still a little thin, but overall in decent condition...she had lost her wings, but no evidence of them remained, as they had been moth-like and not attached by anything like bone, muscle, or skin.

Enekpe's tail wagged again, and she beamed at the return of her playmate, although the game was now quite over. The floox was slightly less pleased, as it meant she was now separated from her new friend, to whom she yipped sadly.

"Her name is Ari, k**e says."

Tsunake
Floox's ears twitched at the yipping, and he carefully leapt from Laurence's shoulder so he could investigate the other, as well as stay close to his floox friend! But he was interested in her friend too, and En would receive a slight tail wag before he sniffed at her curiously.

"Ari." Laurence mulled. "Can she... talk, to animals? Know their true names and the like?"

Please don't tell me you're thinking of asking... The dragon rumbled, not wanting to disturb the goddess. Laurence tactfully ignored him.

Meepfur
Ari perked up immediately, circling Floox with a happy chitter before taking a seat next to him.

Laurence's question was followed by a period of silence as Enekpe consulted with her goddess, also taking a moment to sniff back at Laurence's floox. Eventually, she answered, "She can talk to them, and they can tell her their names if they have them, but she doesn't know their True Names." Whatever that meant! "She can't talk to them the way she is now, though."

Tsunake
The Immortal huffed contentedly through his nose, promptly beginning to groom at Ari with a croon. Friends were nice!

"I see..." That made sense. It never even occurred to him that a True Name was something different all together, but seeing as the goddess couldn't help for now, that was that. "Thank you anyway, Kikechum." He wasn't comfortably with shortening the other's name, even if it would be easier. It felt disrespectful somehow.

"Damn." He snorted and reached out to ruffle the floox's fur with amusement. "Guess you get to stay as Floox for a little while longer."

Meepfur
Friends were very nice! Ari gave a happy sigh, inching even closer still, and proceeded to return the favor.

"You haven't given him a name yet?" she asked. "Why not?"

Tsunake
"His name is Floox." Laurence said simply, ignoring the fact that, well, that wasn't exactly a good name at all. "I was going to take him to a friend and give him him to her, see if she could think of something better for him." He wasn't particularly creative, and if the floox could understand him as well as Adi said they could, he wasn't about to call it 'Fluffy' or something equally as demeaning.

Meepfur
"Just Floox?" Enekpe blinked. That would be like calling her 'Pooka.' Not a very good name at all! But if he was going to give the floox someone else and let them name it, she supposed 'Floox' was fine for now. It was only temporary. "k**e named Ari. I thought it would be sort of weird if I did, since she's a pet and I'm a pet, and it would be weird for a pet to have a pet."

Tsunake
"You're a pet?" He'd inquire, feeling it was okay to bring up the subject since she'd been the one to breach it. Unless she was implying he was Shuo's pet! That wouldn't sit well with him. "Like. I don't even know what a pooka is. Where do you come from? ...Did you used to belong to someone, or just Kikechum?"

He imagined it would be endearing for a child to have a fluffy, talking animal to tote around. Enekpe obviously had a very good temperament and liked to play, if her actions with Ari had been any implication.

Speaking of which, the two flooxes were happily grooming one another still, making soft noises that, had he not been so stubborn, he might have described as cute. Maybe.

Meepfur
"Mm-hm~! Pookas are pets, even evolved ones like me." So she gathered, anyway. She'd always been a pet, and quite happy that way! "I came from a place called the Aerlian Center. My bonded was Anna."

The pooka's ears fell, her expression saddening. "She died, though."

Tsunake
A wince passed over Laurence's features at that. He hadn't meant to bring up a sore subject. Everyone had lost someone these days, it seemed like, and tentatively, his hand settled on the pooka's head, awkwardly attempting to pet her to see if that'd bring some sort of comfort. "I'm sorry. I...lost my friends, too."

Murdered them.

"We'll see them again, one day." Maybe. He wasn't exactly sure what happened to the souls of hosts. From the sounds of it, it sounded like they were used to help channel the rebirthing process of the gods.

Maybe that meant there would never be a Heaven, for him. His chest heaved with a silent sigh, chin tilting down only slightly. He would accept it, if so. He deserved even less than that, honestly.

Meepfur
Being petted always helped! Enekpe nuzzled his hand in return.

"Yeah," she agreed. "Kios says they won't remember anything, though, and we won't recognize them." The pooka had gotten a brief lesson in reincarnation from young Lament; concepts such as that, or any other sort of afterlife, had been sketchy at best for her.

Tsunake
His lips curled slightly despite himself at the simple affection he received in turn, snorting to himself. He let his hand stay where it was though, rubbing just behind her ears almost thoughtfully. The frankness of her words made him pause a little, blinking with surprise. Reincarnation? "Who's Kios?" He asked, but nodded faintly to show he at least... well, somewhat understood what she was saying. So was that how it worked, then...

Meepfur
"Akakios," she answered, half-closing her eyes. Mm, that was nice~! "He's Lament. His dad's Underworld and his mom's Music, he said."

Tsunake
"Underworld had--"

--children? Where Laurence was baffled, the Dragon King was practically thrumming with pleasure. They would have to meet them, one day, or ask Nergal himself to introduce them!

"Lord." The priest muttered under his breath, attempting to comprehend something like that. That was an entirely new bit of information to chew on, and he tried not to imagine... Well. He'd liked Underworld, after getting over their odd introduction, but the god was intimidating to look at...

"You have some place safe to stay?" The man would finally ask her, slightly distracted still by the thought of child-bearing gods. She was an awfully little thing, and while he hadn't seen anything that might be big enough to eat her, wandering around... Well. Better safe than sorry.

Meepfur
"Yep! I have my own rooms and everything!" It was like having her very own house, which tickled her to no end. She was just a little pooka, and now she had her very own place! It was utterly delightful.

Tsunake
That was not the answer he was expecting, but the priest recovered admirably. "Well, that's good. Keeps you dry when the rain comes, anyway." He muttered that last bit, stretching so he could be a little more comfortable. "Where's it located? Not by a plain green door, by any chance?" There was a snort; as though he'd be that fortunate.

Meepfur
"It's up the stairs! You know, in the big building." Well, uh...the really big building. Most buildings were big compared to her. She considered his question about a green door for a moment, then answered, "Nooo, not really. I've seen one, though?"

Tsunake
The big building... Probably not the one he'd wandered into when it had been raining that night. Well. There was no night, anymore, but it had certainly felt like it should have been a stormy one. "And that," The man got to his feet with a grunt, "Is where I need to be heading. I hope you don't mind if I get going, Enekpe. Need to get Floox over there before I forget."

The floox made an unhappy sound at the prospect, wistfully nuzzling at Ari one last time before he scurried up the priest's leg to again perch on his shoulder.

Meepfur
"Okay," Enekpe said, a little sadly, but quickly covered it up with a cheerful "I'll see you later, then!" As an extremely people-oriented little creature, she was always sad to see someone go...but not quite as sad, it seemed, as Ari, who practically wilted at the removal of her new friend and said farewell with a forlorn sound.

Tsunake
Talk about a sucker punch in the gut. Laurence resisted the urge to click his tongue against his teeth, hand rubbing against the back of his neck some. "Well, listen. Once I'm done doing what I need to, I'll come back and see you, okay?"

Floox perked a little at that, attempting to chirp his reassurances at the female ridgeback, which of course sent another twinge of guilt through him. All right, maybe he'd talk to Adi about letting Floox visit his new friend of sorts.

"Take care of yourself En, Kikechum." He nodded respectfully to the little pooka. "Shuo hopes to see you again too." And with that, despite the sad whine the floox on his shoulder made, the man stretched his long legs and headed towards the bigger of the two buildings. To the green door, indeed.

A Dragon and a Mournsong
Meeting Akakios, Son of Underworld and Music
Joint #08
+1,001 words

Tsunake
The big building, the one with the green door. It was easy enough to remember, and Laurence wound his way through the gardens, taking a more scenic route while simultaneously plotting out his course of action in his head. He would compose himself here, take a few deep breaths, then quickly go to see Adi. Hopefully it wouldn't be too hard to convince her to take the small floox off his hands--even just for temporary.

Then, it would be time to go meet Him. It made him anxious to think about, and he rolled his shoulders slightly.

He loves All, Laurence. You needn't be afraid of Him. Shuo gently attempted to reassure the priest.

They both knew that the dragon was concerned too, however. Still, the priest appreciated the thought. "I know." He sighed, and found himself wandering towards one of the fruit trees. No one would mind if he took one, would they? It'd been a long time since he'd had fresh fruit like this...

Zero Dream
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Maybe he'd hidden a little too well, Akakios was starting to think. Which was a shame. It had taken him a long time to bury all the way under the cushions, but now, no one was coming, and this was a little boring !

Well, that was enough for the young god to dig his way out of his cushion-fortified hiding place, and peek out of the teahouse as carefully as a child could. Ah, there was someone ! But it was not his mother. Echo certainly wasn't the best to play hide and seek with. He found her almost immediately whenever it was her turn to hide, and them mortals came all too often to distract her when it was his turn to hide. He should have totally asked Crys instead. His older sister was a fierce playmate when it came to hide and seek.

Lament walked out of the tea house, looking over at Laurence with wide, curious eyes. He didn't quite look like a god... but there was something about him he could not quite identify, which caught his attention. He stopped beside the priest, rocking onto his heels a few times. "Hi !"

Tsunake
What the...? Laurence blinked with surprise at the sight of the child scampering just out of the tea house, pausing in his step. "Hi." He began before he caught sight of those strange eyes. Was this another god...? Could that be? He seemed so small--but Enekpe's words came back to him. If the gods could raise families, would it really be so hard to imagine?

Oh! Mang was delighted. Laurence needed no further prompting.

"Shuo Huang Zhe, Mang, says 'hi' as well." Yes, it sounded terribly informal, but this boy somehow lacked that striking presence that Itztlac and Nergal had both possessed. "I'm Laurence." The pack mule, at this point.

Floox peeked around the back of the man's head to investigate this newcomer before making a happy little sound. To Laurence's surprise, he'd quickly scurry down the length of his body, pausing at the godling's feet to sit up on his haunches and peer at him.

"And that," The man said wearily, "Is Floox."

Zero Dream
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."Dragon... ?" Akakios looked up at Laurence again, eyes wide and curious, though they seemed to carry sorrow in them for some reason. That look rarely ever left him. "My uncle is a dragon ! He's Tian Yue. Does that mean Shuo is my uncle too ?"

...Probably not, but hey. He had 'relations' to a whole lot of the pantheon, thanks to Echo.

The godling knelt down to pet Floox's head a little before standing again - doing his best to look as tall as possible. He was shorter than most everyone else - even Adi was taller than him !

....Well, he was taller than Enkepe, but that didn't quite count.

"Im Akakios. Kios' easier to most people." It certainly look like he didn't mind. He looked up the tree, and stood on his tip toes, doing his best to reach the apple - without much luck. "Nnn..."

Tsunake
Strange eyes, but somehow sad... The man found himself distracted by them until the boy spoke of... his uncle? This Tian Yue again! Maybe this time they could find out his official title, and then--

...Shuo wasn't even paying attention. Laurence resisted the urge to rub at his brow, understanding at once that the Dragon King was entirely flattered at the thought of being an uncle. I don't know, but perhaps maybe. Who are his parents?

"He's not quite sure, but he says maybe. He wants to know if he can ask who your parents are." Brows arched at the name, and a flicker of satisfaction passed over the priest's face. "Ah! Enekpe told us she'd met you. Underworld and Music--those are your parents? And you're Lament?" No wonder he looked so sad. Shuo pressed eagerly at his vocals, and Laurence let him speak.

"Ah! Yes, yes, I see the resemblance. How do you do, Kios? We met your father, not long ago. How is your mother, is she well?" Oh this was splendid!

Laurence absently lifted his arm, plucking one of the apples from the tree and holding it out to the boy. Very much like a child... This was so bizarre, but he felt a little better, a little more relaxed around a godling who was, technically (maybe?) younger than he was.

Zero Dream
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Aha, this was much better ! Kios took the apple as it was handed to him, taking a large bite before finally looking up, a small hint of a smile crossing his expression. "Thank you~"

One had to wonder just what resemblance Shuo was seeing in between Akakios and his father.

"Hm-n." The boy answered after he'd taken another large bite out the fruit. "Mom is a bit busy, but she's fine. Maybe if you ask her she'll make Shuo my uncle too ?" That wouldn't be so bad. This also kind of explained that the relation was likely one born of friendship rather than an actual family link in between them.

Tsunake
Laurence was attempting to figure that out, himself; the boy looked fairly normal, compared to the menacing stature of his father. "You're welcome." Polite, though. Good manners--not that such a thing was necessarily inheritable, but hey.

Making me an uncle... I wonder. We'll have to seek out Music soon, don't you agree? The dragon was utterly amused, and quite taken with Underworld's son. He liked children, that was decided almost immediately.

"We could do that." The priest agreed with a bit of a grin, Shuo's good mood being a little infectious. "Do you have brothers or sisters at all?" So when Underworld met Music, it formed Lament... It made sense, in a sad sort of way.

Zero Dream
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."Hm-n ! A big sister and a big brother." Well, technically, the three of them were born at the same time, but it didn't change much - only if the two were older by only a few minutes at most. "Soto is the oldest. He's Guardian. He find shinies and bring them back." Clearly his brother's ability for finding treasure were unmatched in all the pantheon. "Crys is in between me and Soto. She's Grief." Not that one could think so when first seeing her, unless they saw her eyes. Many people were bothered by his sister's lack of eyes, but it did little to bother her brother.

"She plays in the mud alot. I don't like it when she throws it at me." He wrinkled his nose a bit. "She shapes it into alot of nifty things. Like cats." Maybe she could make a dragon if he asked her nicely ? Shuo would probably enjoy that.

Tsunake
Two more? Laurence was trying not to stare a little, wondering how long ago these children had been born. Did concepts of time even comply to the gods? "I see." Guardian, and Grief... Sounded, well, depressing. Guardian... guarded things, perhaps? "Sounds like a useful talent, to be sure." Shuo was intrigued, and it made him wonder if the myth about dragons and hoarding treasure wasn't exactly unfounded after all. "Crys and Soto... " Two more young ones to look out for, perhaps.

"Most people don't like it when mud gets thrown at them, I think." He snorted under his breath, but paused a little. "Mud? Like clay?" He was a little confused, but still interested. Sounded like a natural gift, if he'd ever heard of one. "Pretty terrible at art, myself." The priest reflected belatedly with a frown. Never ask him to draw you a picture, that was for sure.

Zero Dream
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."She loves it." For some reason. Lament couldn't figure it out for the life of him. "Hm." Another bite of fruit was taken as the boy pondered the question, expression thoughtful. "Maybe ? It's like mud but less... liquidy." And it dripped around alot less.

"Im not good at it either." Well, nowhere near as good as his sister, at least. They could be companions in lack of artistic talent.

Tsunake
"Could be clay." Laurence decided, watching the young Lament for a moment. He liked kids, sure, but that didn't mean he had much experience talking with them. "So, Kios... Were you also reborn from a gem, or...?" Was he something new entirely? Was such a thing possible?

"Well, then we can be bad at it together." He sounded amused, if thoughtful. "Is there anything you're particularly good at?"

Zero Dream
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."Ill have to ask her." The young boy sounded equally thoughtful, one finger tapping against his chin in a rather adorable thinking expression. He would, he decided, if only so he would know in the future.

Ha ! Well, this question he knew the answer of. Everyone seemed to be very curious about that. "No." He shook his head for emphasis. "Mom and dad made us." Well, duh ? "There isn't many like me or Crys and Soto..." He knew of Una, and Nergal had talked about another divine child named Caolan, but he had never met her. Adrienne didn't quite count, since she wasn't a goddess. She was... well, he didn't even know.

"Im good at writing ! He announced, puffing up with pride. Maybe Laurence would get interested and he could read some things to him ! That would be nice... if only he had his books with him. Which, for once, he did not. Drat.

Tsunake
His lips would quirk at the childish expression, but he kept himself quiet, feeling as though it would be rude. Last thing he needed would be to offend Kios--sometimes boys developed a sense of pride way earlier than one would expect.

So they had been born, perhaps like humans? No, maybe not quite so, but... They hadn't been present for the Fading, if he was understanding right. He touched at his brow for a moment, deciding there'd be time later to puzzle this over. "Makes you special." That was what it sounded like, anyway, and what kid didn't like to be special?

He finally grinned at the pride he could hear in that tone, leaning back a little as though to evaluate that. "Writing, huh? Not too good at writing myself either, to tell you the truth. What sorta things do you write?"

Zero Dream
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."Of course im special." The boy seemed certain of that. He was a god, after all. They were all special in their own way.

Even if he was a rather small one at the moment, but hey.

"I write laments." Double duh. "'n sad things. Crys loves it." Of course Grief would like sad stories, one could think. "Ill'd show you but... I left my books inside." The boy gave a pout.

Tsunake
Laments. And sad things. Well, while he couldn't necessarily say he was surprised, he did offer a small nod, trying to keep it in perspective. Though Kios was a child, he was still a god, and a god of Lament at that.

"Oh. Well, another time then, huh?" He shrugged it off, as though there'd be no doubt he'd be seeing the younger again sometime soon. "Does Crys ever help you write stuff, or you just read it to her?"

Floox was beginning to silently beg for a fruity treat, staring up at the boy with big, dark eyes. He was cute, right?

Zero Dream
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."I read to her all the time." The boy answered the question gladly. It was rare indeed when he did not read to her. In spite of being his sister, she was always honest with weither or not she liked it or if it needed work, and he appreciated that. His mother... well, his mother always liked everything he did, and therefore wasn't a fair critic. Maybe later she would realize this was what he was looking for, and he would be.

He crouched down to offer a bit of apple to the floox. He couldn't remember having seen something like that before... How curious. It looked just the slightest bit like a cat, but cats didn't like apples. He'd tried that. They didn't seem to like alot of things beside meat, which Kios didn't have much of. He preferred fruits. And milk. And cookies, of course. Any kind of candy was usually a hit with him. "What is it ?" He asked, looking up at Laurence again.

Tsunake
It sounded as though there was a good relationship between them. Better than the alternative; sibling rivalries on the scale of gods... That could get messy, particularly if it turned into more of a spiteful sort of relationship. "Bet she likes that." Kids liked stories, didn't they? "Does your mom read to either of you? Or your dad?"

Floox practically crooned at the offering, taking it delicately between his little paws before beginning to nibble away. Clearly the creature wasn't picky about what it was fed, so long as it tasted good!

"He's a floox. Named Floox." Laurence snorted slightly. "An Immortal, I was told. Pretty smart, too. ...He's a good companion." It was true, no matter how he tried to act like the small thing was nothing more than an irritation. He wasn't good at acting.

Zero Dream
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."She really likes it." Akakios puffed up a bit again, visibly very proud of that - trying to look just a little bit taller than he actually was. He was a big boy, after all, and was to be taken seriously. Thankfully most people did. "She's blind, so I can't teach her to read." This did not seem to echo sadness in him - Crys was the way she was, she had been born that way, and that was that. "She's way too good at hide and seek through. She wins all the time." He pouted.

"Mom read to us alot. Soto can't even stay still so he doesn't really stick around long." He always brought back treasures, however, so he could forgive his brother for that. "Dad is really busy so... not recently." He did remember Nergal reading something to them once or twice, not long after they had been born. "He always take care of my hair when he's around, through." And ohhh did Lament like it from the sound of it, pointing at his braid for emphasis. "Dad showed me how to do it myself but... it's a little hard."

A floox named Floox ? "Mom told me once that Ishum kept bringing cats back to Dad, and cats don't usually like Dad, they just start hissing when he's near for some reason, so he gave them all to Mom to take care of. That was a long time ago, before me." And back when Echo and Nergal lived separately, from the sound of it. That era was foreign and curious to him. It was hard to imagine his mom and his dad not, well... together. He reached out his free hand to pet Floox.

"There was one who was called Cat for a long time because no one could think of a name for him." He'd found that hilarious. A cat named Cat ! "Then they found him a name but he was so used to be called Cat that he didn't answer to it. I think he died though." Did cats go the Underworld ? He would need to ask Nergal.

Tsunake
Blind. Laurence tried to keep his features composed, but couldn't help himself from blinking just a little bit. How on earth... "It's good that you read to her, then." He said once he felt he'd recovered enough to sound normal, and it was easier once Kios pouted about his sister apparently being good at hide-and-seek. "Yeah? Good for her." It was said with a bit of a grin, though he had to wonder if the girl had some other way of being able to find her way around, whether it was by enhanced senses, or some... extrasensory crap, he didn't know.

His brows furrowed for a moment when it was mentioned that Underworld was busy. Considering how many had died... Well, though grim, it was hardly surprising. Of course, the mention of the braided hair (and he could still vividly picture those braids, held in with... bits of bone, if he remembered right) made his lips quirk somewhat. "It looks good, though. Looks like your dad's, what I remember of it." Not as thick, surely, but it was a start, right?

So cats didn't like Nergal, huh? It shouldn't have amused him, but it did, and he watched the creature close his dark eyes to sigh against the thoughtful hand. That felt very nice, from the looks of it, and the man would watch for some time.

"And Cat is a perfectly lovely name. I keep trying to tell Shuo that, but he doesn't believe me." The priest snorted. His good humor faded a little at the mention of Cat's death, and he nodded some. "Mm. Well, it sounded like he had a good life. Your mother sounds like a good person to have taking care of things."

He was thinking he'd need to find Music, one day, just to see just what sort of person she was for himself.

Not that his opinion mattered much, in retrospect.

Zero Dream
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.If Lament had noticed the unease, he spoke nothing of it. He seemed rather comfortable with it, at any rate. After all, this was normal for him. Just the way things were.

"I thought it was funny. Cat probably thought they were talking about it whenever they talked about a cat." And a little silly. It was a little like if his parents had named him Lament. He still didn't quite identify to being called by his title yet. "There's not a whole lot of cats from before I was born left, I think. They almost all died. Vertigo's still here, through..."

Tsunake"
Laurence got the feeling that Cat probably didn't give a damn if they were talking to it or not, but that was something he kept to himself. He'd straighten up again, stretching his legs out, and letting himself watch both floox and boy for a moment. He'd linger here for a little more before he'd excuse himself, and let Kios get back to whatever it was he'd been doing.

"You like cats?" And did they like him, he wondered? If they reacted to Nergal poorly, would Music's influence soothe whatever unease that Underworld struck in them? Personally, Laurence didn't know much about cats, not enough to like 'em or dislike 'em. It was safe to say that he was neutral.

Zero Dream
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Lament nodded at that. "They're warm and fuzzy." Cats had never minded him, per-se. He wasn't really scary to them, at least he didn't think so. Some liked him less than others, but he just busied himself with the one that liked him and ignored the rest. "There's one, a tiny one, she stays in my lap alot while I write." He liked that, the feel of the warm fur against him, and the low, gentle purring of the kitten.

Tsunake
"Animals are much more sensitive than people." The priest murmured by means of reply, and though it might not have made much sense to Kios at the moment, he continued, "That's probably why they like you. They can sense you're a good person. Probably make that little one feel awfully safe." A tired smile pulled at his lips for a moment, and, as though eternally determined to spite him, Floox (with one last cuddle into Lament's hand), latched onto his pants with surprisingly deft paws and scurried up to perch on the man's shoulder.

His lip curled for a moment as he eyed the rodent-like creature, and with a fond churr, Floox rubbed his head just underneath the man's chin. "Ridiculous." Laurence sighed exasperatedly, but there was no bite to it, and grudgingly gave the creature a pat.

You are glad you pulled him out of the rain. The Dragon King could not have been more amused, and Laurence visibly winced.

Zero Dream
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Lament let the little floox go, and smiled - some kind of shy, subdued smile again. "That must be why he likes you too." He did sincerely believe what he was saying - Laurence had given him no reason to think otherwise. "Ishum told me Dad scares cats because they can actually feel ghosts, and it scares them." He added, before Laurence could think that this made his father a bad person. He wasn't a bad person, as much as things sometimes left Lament upset.

"Ishum said I could name that one kitten since it likes me best, but... I don't know what to name her." All the names he could think of was ones that had already been taken, and his kitten needed to be special.

Tsunake
He knew that would come up, and for whatever reason, it embarrassed the man, leaving him rubbing at his forehead with a grunt. The Dragon King was laughing quietly, and the priest did his best to steer the conversation away from that particular comment, in no mood for Mang's teasing.

"Your father is..." How did he want to phrase this? "...impressive, to say the least. Intimidating, but, from what I've been hearing, Lord Harmodius needs more like him." Underworld, at least to him, fit the title of 'god'. Powerful, terrifying, and yet, after he'd gotten over his shock, Laurence never had felt as though the other would bring him harm. "Sensitive, like I said. I wouldn't be at all surprised if that was the reason. Guess they don't like what they can't see."

Naming... Laurence bit back a frown, but he wouldn't try to sweeten things. "I don't know what to tell you there. I'm no good with names." Floox was an example of that, right? "But. It should be something that means something to you, I think. You said she was just a kitten now, mm? She might grow into her name later, so keep that in mind too. So it might not seem so special at first, but when she starts to grow, it'll fit her like a glove."

He almost sounded like he knew what he was talking about.

Zero Dream
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Thankfully for Laurence, Akakios seemed more than willing to follow on the train on conversation that he was laying out for him, and the matter didn't come up again.

"Mom says Dad isn't very good with people that are alive." He sounded amused, tilting his head to look at Laurence again. "But he tries anyway." If only he could actually be around when he was... That was extremely frustrating, but the boy said nothing of it.

"That makes sense." Lament replied, pensive. The young godling was a strange mix of wise beyond his years, and of childhood innocence. "They scared me too, the first time I heard them. I can hear some of the ghosts, but I can't see them at all. Dad said I can only hear the strongest ones."

"Hm... You're right." Akakios decided, on the matter of naming. He'll find something soon enough.

Tsunake
That was ironic. And there was a remark on the very tip of his tongue, but Laurence remembered himself at the last second. "He fell in love with your mother in this lifetime, right?" It made at least a little sense, then; someone as reclusive as Underworld, having children? Talk about a shock.

He was still going to be good and not say a word, he swore it.

Again, the priest was mildly surprised by Kios' perceptiveness, but perhaps it wasn't that odd after all. This wasn't just a child, after all, but a god child. "You can hear them..." Another surprise, but then again, he was Lament. Laurence decided to refrain from asking if the spirits were grieving or not when he could hear them, and only nodded thoughtfully. "Maybe in time you'll hear more of them, when you grow older." Or not. What did he know?

"It'll come to you." He advised a little wryly, glancing at Floox as though wondering the same thing for himself.

The priest seemed to blink after a moment, shaking his head. "Forgive me. I'd come out here with the intention of finding Lord Harmodius before I got sidetracked. Do you know if... he's around?" Or rather, had the boy seen him in the area?

Zero Dream
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Apparently, the irony of the situation flew miles over Lament's curly purple-haired head, and it was probably better that way. "I think so, yeah. Mom and Dad don't really talk about how they got together." This might be worth asking about, one day, and now that it had dawned on him, the curiosity was gnawing at him.

"I dunno." Akakios was the first to admit, with no shame howsoever, that he had no idea if that particular talent of his would develop with time. So far, it hadn't, not really. He'd grown in many ways since he was born, physically and mentally, but none at all in term of godly power. Thankfully, he was too young to really care much about that.

"Harmodius..." The boy pondered out loud, looking around him as if it would somehow make Creation take form in his field of vision. "He was in here when I saw him with Mom and Crys." He pointed at the larger building. "If he's not here, then... I dunno."

Tsunake
First there was a blanch. Then, an ill-suppressed shudder. Underworld courting... That would have been a truly terrifying experience for any woman, or so he thought. Music, he'd been told? Perhaps... well, hell, there was no way he'd seek her out and ask, that wasn't any of his business, but he at least wanted to grow acquainted with her in some way.

And Shuo was still stuck on this uncle business. He'd never hear the end of it.

His gaze cast itself to the building for a moment, thoughtfully, before he gave a slight nod. "Guess I'll check there, then. ...If you ever..." Well, hell, what was he supposed to say? If the kid ever needed anything? He had his parents, and the man felt awkwardly as though he was intruding. "...Well, I'll be around, if anything. I'm with Illisia, and Xun Jiang. Big, wooden door shaped like a tree."

Yeah, entirely too awkward now. With a slight nod, Laurence made to go, but not without a few parting words. "See you around, Kios. Lemmie know what you end up naming that cat, all right?"

And you like children. For all the cool layers you've wrapped yourself in, you do not hide your true colors very well at all. The dragon noted warmly.

"For Christ's sake, worm, if you have any more goddamn comments to make--"

And so the tirade went on for a while.

A Cute Friend For You!
Finding Adi, Meeting with Rio, God of Love
Joint #09
+1,001 words

Tsunake
His meeting with the godling had been more interesting than he'd expected, and the priest had much to think about even as he unconsciously found himself climbing up the steps of the larger raised platform. He allowed his gaze to briefly slide over the columns, admiring, before he began to scout out these doors--one of which would lead him, with luck, to Adi.

Do you think she will be pleased? Shuo sounded excited, clearly looking forward to the girl's reaction. Oh, he was still sad, to some degree, but he was also a fairly selfless being, and couldn't exactly argue with his host's reasoning.

Even if Laurence really just didn't want to deal with the cuddly floox.

"I think so. Ah-hah." Triumphant, the man lengthened his stride a little, then found himself pausing before he lifted his hand and let his knuckles tap lightly on the surface. Would anyone even be able to hear him, from here? It felt weird, letting himself in, and so he'd stand awkwardly for a moment, calling out. "Adi? You there?"

Hopefully her 'mother' wouldn't answer the door.

Meepfur
Laurence was in luck! Sort of. It wasn't Desiderio who opened the door, but one of his aoidei. The scantily-clad, purple demoness beamed at their visitor, offering a bright, "Hello~! Adi's not here right now, but would you like to come in an-" What was meant to be an 'anyway' evaporated, as Ishkhara noticed that the man had adorable company. "Oh, how precious!" she crooned, "You have a floox too!"

After her moment of distraction, however, she did open the door wider into the tiled hall, gesturing for the werewolf's friend to enter, "Come in, come in!"

And, somewhat belatedly, turned her head to call, "Rioooo~"

Yeah. Maybe not quite in luck.

Tsunake
Laurence blanched.

Laurence blanched a lot. That had not... He just... The purple-skinned (it felt like a demon, the influence was certainly there) woman was wearing very little clothing, and he felt his mind more or less glaze over as he struggled to decide what the hell to do.

Floox straightened up immediately at the sound of cooing, offering a fond chitter of his own at the woman with a slightly twitching tail. She sounded nice!

"T-Thank you." The priest managed to stutter, feeling his face heat up despite himself. A thousand curses simultaneously repeated themselves in his mind, and he managed to stiffly step inside.

Who the succubus (she had to be, look at her--no, don't look at her--) called for was lost on him for a moment, sinking in belatedly. Laurence felt like choking a little.

Be polite. Shuo chided him, and when his host failed to react, would take over with more amusement than he should have felt. "Thank you kindly, Miss. The dragon said pleasantly, taking in the inside of the place with appreciation. If Love was here, then that would be even more wonderful!

Meepfur
"You're welcome!" said Ishkhara with a giggle, not failing to notice the man's reaction. How cute, he was embarrassed!

Shortly after he was called, the god emerged from the nearest room on the right, curious to see who'd come to call on his daughter. If nothing else, Love did wear significantly more clothing than his aoidei or his daughter. Everything but shoes, anyway. It was an old habit from after he'd morphed from Alex, when he'd had no shoes but hers, and they'd all been...well, not suited to the male god. Not that he'd quite been male, at that point, but he certainly hadn't wanted to accentuate that particular fact.

On his heels came an ordinary floox like the one the priest had brought, while a more colorful one peeped out from around the door frame. Adi had, apparently, finally managed to lure that most exotic and elusive of flooxes into her clutches, though it obviously remained quite shy.

"You must be Laurence!" he said warmly, extending a hand in greeting. "I'm Rio, and this is Ishkhara."

After a slight, playful bow, Ishkha turned to the more timid floox and bid it, "La, would you go and get Adi, please?"

The starry floox chittered softly and was off like a shot down the hallway, out the window at the end, and down the tree just outside.

Tsunake
This... was Love? Swallowing in a vain attempt to regain his composure, the priest shook the god's hand with only a faint air of bewilderment. Very pink--yet there was a sort of style about Rio's attire that made him seem very... very... Well, he wasn't quite sure. Those wings though, they were impressive, and he let his eyes flicker over them for a moment.

Floox's tiny ears wriggled enthusiastically at the sight, and it didn't escape Laurence's notice that there was a very bright floox among them now. That'd been the one Adi was talking about, wasn't it?

"Yes, Laurence Pershary." He was still a little stunned, but remembered himself after watching Ishkhara bow (oh Christ this was entirely immoral), and cleared his throat hastily when the brightly colored floox sped off. "Host to Shuo Huang Zhe, Mang."

"You look very well, Love." The dragon himself spoke again, his tone nearly affectionate. "I'm glad to see it." It was beyond good to see so many gods having returned to, or very nearly to their full strength.

Meepfur
"A pleasure to meet you," Love said warmly, then inclined his head respectfully when Mang spoke. His genuine smile, however, remained despite the touch of formality. "I'm glad to see you among us once more, Shuo Huang Zhe."

"Come," he offered, making to lead Laurence/Shuo to another room, "Let's have a seat, shall we? Adi shouldn't be too long. I suspect she's visiting her tree."

Dogwood chirped happily up at the other floox. The more, the merrier~!

From a room at the end of the hall, another demoness peeked her head out, only to disappear for several moments before emerging fully. Her hair was loose and wet - actually, all of her was wet! - as she'd been having a bath. Fortunately for their guest, however, she'd thought to get dressed before coming out...although 'half-naked' was still being generous, as she wore no more than the other aoide.

Not only did Love have very...open servants, they were also rather nosy.

Tsunake
The priest would bow his head somewhat in turn at the request, following quietly after the god. "Her... tree?" He'd inquire hesitantly after a moment, pausing only to let Floox scurry down his body to go investigate Dogwood. The Immortal liked making friends, it seemed, and he might have snorted under his breath if he wasn't feeling slightly overwhelmed.

Yet another demon. He sensed her before he saw her, and when he unconsciously turned to look, he felt yet another flush crawl heatedly over his features. Oh Christ. It was impossible not to notice the sheen of her body, her wet hair--she'd undoubtedly been bathing, and his gaze shamefully dropped to his feet before it could wander much further.

If he'd planned on saying anything else, it was no use trying to pry it out of him now; his tongue had welded itself to the roof of his mouth, and his throat felt dry. Give not into temptation, give not into temptation...

Meepfur
"He's more than welcome to stay here," Rio said with a nod. "He and Dogwood certainly seem to be getting along already."

The friendly flooxes, however, were not the only thing he'd noticed. It was hard to miss the friendly aoidei either, and though he was quite used to them, his guest seemed...a little uncomfortable, perhaps? "Ah, would you care for something to eat or drink?"

Sending Shy, Ishkha, or both to fetch something might be a good idea. He didn't really want to send them away outright, not wanting to let on that he'd noticed Laurence's discomfort.

Tsunake
"Shuo might appreciate that." The man said wryly, then realized who he was talking to and ducked his chin a little. Dragon Kings were highly respected here, from what he'd gathered, and he meant no offense, even if he found it all too easy to tease the dragon.

A glance to his opposite side confirmed, indeed, that the flooxes seemed quite content in each others' presence, and it shouldn't have amused him. Floox seemed to get along with everyone, big or small.

His attention quickly returned to the god of Love, and he would nod. "Something to drink would be nice, thank you. Tea, water, I'm not very picky..." Anything but alcohol would do, really. No, he didn't realize that Rio had noticed, but even if he had, he would have been grateful (and a little embarrassed) to the god. "Is Adi... your only daughter?" He'd ask tentatively, seeing if he couldn't make some conversation.

Now that he was thinking on it, Adi had told him about the demons that served as aoide now. Perhaps they'd repented--and even if they hadn't, he had met demons in his time that weren't bad sorts.

It was making him feel guilty, like he owed them an apology for his carefully-concealed prejudice.

Meepfur
"I see," Rio responded with a nod of his head, both understanding and respectful. So he was a priest! That explained, then, why Shy and Ishkha had made him uncomfortable. "An admirable calling, indeed."

As it happened, Adrienne had not been visiting her tree; she had, in fact, been much closer to home still, having opted to go for a bit of a swim outside. So it wasn't long at all before La had succeeded in 'fetching' her - and Phlox! - and soon they climbed up the same tree the starry floox had recently climbed down, and into the window. She quickly wrung her hair out again, leaving a puddle under the window and a trail of wet pawprints behind her as she went looking for the reason she'd been summoned.

This was at last revealed when she glanced into the sitting room, preceeded by a soaked Phlox. Laurence had come to visit her! The werewolf bounded into the room with a delighted, "Laurence~!"

She wore much the same thing as when last they'd met, but looked another couple of years older - 16 or so, perhaps.

Tsunake
A wry smile touched his lips, and Laurence inclined his head. "Thank you, Lord." He cast his gaze sideways for a moment, wary of being overheard before he continued, "I spend little time in the church, to be honest. I exorcise demons that have taken to harassing people." And while it certainly seemed as though Rio's servants were well-behaved (and damnably mischievous), he didn't want to give off the wrong idea.

The feminine tones had him turning more fully, a grin starting to tug at his face before it promptly tripped over itself. "Adi? You've... grown!" But there hadn't been nearly enough time for such a thing... Then again, she only claimed she was two, didn't she? Still, he was doing his best not to boggle, having to physically shake his head for a moment before the grin could tentatively return.

"I'm sorry to pull you away from visiting your tree," The priest started, "But I had a favor to ask you, if you would hear me out."

Meepfur
Love might have responded, but his daughter's appearance took away the opportunity. At the priest's reaction, his mouth twitched into a grin and he murmurred, "Welcome to my world."

He then stood and bowed, saying, "Now if you'll excuse me, I think I'll go see if Shy and Ishkha need any help."

Laurence had come to visit Adi, after all, and now she was here, so...it was time to make himself scarce!

Adi giggled, tail wagging as she bounced over and plopped onto a pillow beside Laurence. "You took too long to come and see me!" she said, far more teasing than accusing. "I think it's a growth spurt. Rio says they happen around my age."

...well, sort of. She was a teenager, but also not. It was all very complicated! Really, it was better not to think about it too much. "Oh, I was swimming actually. But what do you need?"

Phlox noticed the new floox before his mistress, as she was distracted by her two-legged guest, and quickly scampered to greet him. Behind her, La peeked out, only to hide again. This new floox was interesting and all, but...new people were scary!

Tsunake
"It was an honor, Lord." Laurence bowed his head, feeling somewhat flattered at the treatment. Then again, he supposed it was because it was Mang he carried, even if the dragon had chosen to quietly observe the interactions with much interest.

"Clearly." The priest drawled, eyes half-lidded even as he chuckled to himself. "Won't make that mistake again, I promise." Ah, swimming. That explained the wet.

Floox straightened with delight and made a strangled sort of bark in his throat, wriggling even as he minced his way over to Phlox.

"I see you found your friend, that you were talking about." He nodded thoughtfully towards the colorful... La, the she-demon had said? "Found one, myself, but I wasn't exactly looking for him." He would gesture to the floox in question, who paused to peer at them both with interest.

"He needs a name, once--Shuo doesn't think Floox works, even though I think it's perfectly fine." The priest said with amusement. "Second... Well, I'm about to go visit Lord Harmodius soon, and I don't exactly have a good place to keep him. I wanted to know, would you mind taking care of him for me, for a little while? I figured he could keep you and your lot company..."

Meepfur
When Laurence pointed out his floox, Adi's eyes widened with delight, and she leaned forward to offer this new one a hand to sniff. "Ohhh. Hello there!"

The starred floox peeped out again, unable to fully resist the pull of curiosity, but once again she ducked back behind Adi. Frowning, the werewolf reached behind to to gently grab hold of her and set her in her lap. La was clearly not pleased, hunkering down as low as she could, but stayed where she was put. "Don't be silly, La. Laurence is my friend! He even has a floox, too."

La grumbled quietly, unconvinced that these credentials were enough.

"We'd be happy to have him awhile! Wouldn't we?" Dogwood and Phlox answered with yips of agreement. "And we can find him a name, too."

Tsunake
Floox's tail swished for only a moment before he sniffed at Adi's fingers, soon rubbing his furry cheeks against them with a content sound. Hello, indeed!

"Hello there, La." Laurence said quietly, not wanting to spook the little creature anymore than was necessary. "Hard to believe, I know, but I'm not a bad guy." His lips threatened to twitch when Floox chimed in with a chirp or two, as though validating his words. Glad to know the Immortal had his back, he supposed.

"That's a relief." The priest did seem pleased to hear that, smiling gratefully. "He's probably used to Floox now, just my luck." And while really, he didn't mind, it probably did seem improper. In his defense, people named their cats 'Cat' all the time. "How have you been, otherwise? Staying out of trouble?"

Meepfur
La peered at Laurence with suspicion in her inky little eyes, her long tail lashing like an unhappy cat's. Maybe he was alright, but she took more convincing!

Adi gave those fluffy cheeks of Floox's a good scritch, her wet tail waving behind her, casting off little drops of water with every swish. "What sort of name would you like, hmm?" she asked the little creature. "Phlox and Dogwood are named after plants, and La's short for Vulpecula. That's a constellation. I read about it."

Straightening, the young woman claimed innocently, "I'm never in trouble!"

"I've been great, though. I met another dragon's host, and she's teaching me about being a druid. How've you been?"

Tsunake
Floox all but purred for the attention, cuddling up close to the outside of one of her legs. He might have scrambled up into her lap, but La was in there, and he could tell that La wasn't very happy, even now.

"Hm... He's honestly, probably not picky. Plant names are easier though, so I guess we can start there." Vulpecula, huh? He hadn't even heard of that, himself, and his brows arched a little to show he was impressed. Nothing wrong with being well-read, not in the least.

"Druid? That sounds like Illisia. Xun Jiang? That ring a bell?" How ironic. "If I hadn't met her when trying to find my way back to the Pantheon, I'd probably still be stuck in the woods..." But he liked the elven woman, liked her a lot, and there was definitely a thing or two that Adi could learn from her.

"Been doing pretty well. Getting used to all this, I think." He made an absent gesture. It hadn't been as hard to adjust to the thought of gods as he thought it would have been. "Met some more people, another dragon, too. Jin Huang, Futs Lung." Maybe she'd met him?

Meepfur
In truth, 'well-read' wasn't really a term that could be applied to Adrienne. She still wasn't terribly good at reading, although she was getting better. Enough so that she could certainly look things up, which was precisely what she'd done. It had only made sense to give the starry-looking floox a starry name, after all.

"We'll have a think on it, then," she said, continuing to pet the newcomer obligingly. Names could wait for the time being, however, as other topics of conversation surfaced.

"You got lost in the woods again?" Adi chuckled. At least someone had found him and brought him back! "Mm-hm, Illisia! Isn't she wonderful? And so pretty, too!" The werewolf sighed lightly, clearly very enamored of Illisia.

"I've never met Jin Huang. I did meet Xia Lu Ling, though."

Tsunake
Floox had closed his eyes with a content sigh, soft, pleasant sounds stirring his tiny vocals on occasion. Names could wait, yes... Pettings, however, those could continue for as long as they wanted to!

"Again." The man agreed ruefully, rather amused. One day, he'd learn how to get back there himself and stop relying on young women to help him back. "She's something else, all right." The priest nodded, thoughtfully thinking back on his meeting with the druid. "Not like most people I've met. Very kind." And yes, pretty.

Another brother? It seemed so. "We haven't heard about that one, yet. The only one that we know of who we haven't seen is... Tian Yue." And they still didn't know his title, but if he was as big as Enekpe said, he shouldn't be terribly hard to find.

Meepfur
He was so cute~! Even having three flooxes of her own, and though they were all equally adorable, Adi was no less taken with Floox for it. She scritched and petted with no intentions at all of stopping.

"I've never met a girl so tall. And her ears! They're soo long." And she was purple, and she had those pretty markings, and she was graceful... "Did you know she can shapeshift?"

"He's...Yu, he said," she added of Xia Lu Ling after a moment of thought.

Tsunake
Watching La for a moment, as though making sure she was all right, Floox would tentatively see if he couldn't wiggle his way into Adi's lap, much preferring her to the floor, though the floor was covered in soft things!

"Me neither, to be honest." Laurence snorted. He hadn't thought it tactful to ask exactly what she was, but it didn't matter, either. Not really. "She told me. Bears and cats, I think. Didn't see it myself, but I really don't see why she'd say it, if she didn't mean it." Illisia had seemed like a very honest person, and considering she already worked with earth magics... Well, it wasn't impossible.

Yu... Yu Five Claws? The dragon sounded tentative, but hopeful.

"We haven't yet him, met, but I think Shuo sort of remembers..."

Meepfur
La accepted the proximity of the other floox, even sniffing inquisitively at him; her problem, it seemed, lay with strange people. Other flooxes were tolerable, non-threatening, and generally not scary. Phlox and Dogwood, not wanting to be left out, made to clamber into Adi's lap as well. Flooxpile~!

Adi, of course, was quite delighted by this turn of events, and was more than happy to lavish attention on all four. "And a bird! She showed me, and it was awesome. I wish I could do things like that."

"Have you met anyone else lately?" she asked, curious.

Tsunake
There was a delighted squeak from the small Immortal before he snuggled into the rest of his new friends, liking how very warm and soft they were. And the hands were still there, too!

Birds now, too? "She actually turned into a bird?" The priest raised his brows in disbelief, but only shook his head, wondering if he'd get to witness the feat himself one day. Maybe he could ask, if that wouldn't be too forward.

"Let's see... There was Itztlac, the god of Night, Nergal of Underworld and later, his son, Akakios. Jin Huang, another Dragon King, and Illisia, of course. A good amount, I'd say." He snorted. "I'm sure there's only hundreds more to meet, so a good start is probably more accurate."

"After I'm finished up here, I'm going to see if I can find Lord Harmodius." The man continued, this time with a sigh. "Get some things straightened up, at least." And he was nervous about it.

Meepfur
"Yep! I saw," Adi confirmed, nodding as she continued to dote on the happy Immortals.

"Oh, Kios! He's my cousin." Her tail wagged at the mention of one of her 'family' members. "Well, we're not really related, but I call Echo my aunt, so that makes him my cousin. And his sister Crys and his other brother, but I've never met him." But Night? She hadn't known there was a god of that around. Cool!

The werewolf tilted her head slightly, curious. "Straightened up?"

Tsunake
Adi seemed to know everyone around here, didn't she? "Kios said we could ask his mother to see if Shuo could be his uncle." He sounded amused, though nodded slightly. "He told us about his siblings. Figured we'll probably run into them one day, too... Oh, there was also a little pooka. Her name's Enekpe, and she's host to Animals." How could he have forgotten about her?

Her question made him pause for a moment before, tiredly, he'd nod. "...I did some bad things, before I came here. Didn't mean to, but it happened anyway. ...Gonna talk to Lord Harmodius about it, see if there's a way he can forgive me for it. It's got a lot to do with my religion."

There was a chance, a good chance, that she probably didn't know much about Christianity, with so many other gods wandering about, but surely religion wasn't out of her range of knowledge.

Meepfur
Host to Animals? Ooh, that sounded awesome, too! Like a goddess she'd probably get along with...not that there were any deities she had't gotten along with. It just sounded like a nice domain.

Did some bad things? Adi, of course, was curious about what, but that was probably something she shouldn't ask. "I'm sure it'll be alright. Alex did some bad stuff before she became a host, too."

The werewolf had a very vague awareness of Christianity, and was of course aware that different belief systems existed, but knew little if anything about them. So, ever-inquisitive, she asked, "Your religion?"

Tsunake
There was a silent sigh, but Laurence didn't appear exasperated with the question. More just... well, having to finally face the issue head on, instead of shying away from it whenever it came up. "Christianity. It's been stretched out and diluted over the years by all sorts of different people who think they know best, but there are some basic principles. You're faithful to God. There's only one God, though," There was a grimace. "Clearly that's not true."

Oh well.

"There are guidelines, more or less, to try and live virtuously. Treat others how you'd like to be treated, remain faithful, don't lie, cheat, steal, or... murder." The priest cleared his throat, moving on before Adi could (hopefully) ask more questions pertaining to that. It'd be best to keep the explanation simple if he could. "If you're a good person, the thought was that you'd be able to go to Heaven, once you died." Or was it the Underworld, knowing what he did now?

"If someone sins, they can confess to God, and pray to be forgiven. ...If I let Shuo... merge, or whatever he has to do with me, then I can repent." Not like he could exactly tell the dragon no; he was stuck in his options now. But maybe, if he agreed to this willingly and did all he could, things could change.

"Regardless, I don't think there'll be a Heaven for me." There was a wry smile, and Laurence fell silent.

Meepfur
Hmm. Well, other than the only one god part, that made sense. They were the sorts of things she'd been taught, you know, pretty much just being nice to people. Adi nodded her understanding.

"Alex was Christian, too. That's kind of why she did it - she was afraid she hadn't been a good person." It was something Adrienne didn't fully understand; of course she'd been a good person! How could she not have been?

Tsunake
That snagged his attention immediately, and though Laurence paused a moment, his thoughts were ticking by. "...No? ...Did she know that Lord Harmodius was here?" And did she ever find peace, was the question he really wanted to ask, but refrained. He wasn't that desperate yet, and would take his knocks when they came.

Religions were all different fingers on the same hand, when it came down to the basics. Slap a title on them, however, and people were bound to fight over which was the 'right' one to follow. Not that you'd see him converting anytime soon just to make a point, however, but still.

"It's been a long day." The man half-groused to himself.

Meepfur
Adi nodded, to both questions. "Vampires do some bad things when they start out. It wasn't her fault, really, but she felt bad about it."

"She met him once, when he was Destruction. That's how she got Rio's gem." In a roundabout way, but the choice had ultimately been hers, so that was what counted.

Tsunake
Vampire. He still couldn't bring himself to believe it, although it truthfully had slipped his mind. From vampire, to the god of Love? Well, no. If he was being honest, he could believe it. It was the fact that on the same level, he could relate and sympathize to the issue of control--he'd been no better, only a few weeks ago.

The mention of Destruction made the man wince for a moment, but he nodded without any hesitation. He'd always been raised with the notion that God loved all of His children... but that which could create could also destroy. Privately, the priest would have to see such a thing with his own eyes before he could believe it, but...

"So she did find her peace then." Came the murmur, and Laurence gave his head a shake. "Well, good. And she helped Everything by helping Rio come back." The silent statement that followed was 'And maybe so can I'.

Meepfur
The werewolf smiled in answer. "She did. She made friends with Ea, and she fell in love with Orin, and now she's part of Rio - and they had us! I think she did pretty well."

"I'm sure you'll be fine, too." Although she would miss him. "Shuo had better keep you, though," she warned. It really bothered her that some gods just...ate their hosts, especially after all said hosts did for them. It wasn't fair at all.

Tsunake
A complex and confusing family, to say the least, and despite himself the priest's lips curled upward to return her smile. "Don't think you can do much better than that." Finding love and at least having one good kid? Wasn't bad at all, considering where she'd started.

There was no suppressing the surprise that flickered over his face at that. "He said something like that too, that I wouldn't be lost. What the--what's that mean?" He hastily corrected his language just in time, but a frown had settled on his features. "I thought the deal was that you gave up your soul and body, and that was the end for you..."

Meepfur
"Well, it's a little complicated, I guess, but it can go a couple of different ways. They can just use you if they want, eat you up 'til there's nothing left, or they can make you a part of them. That's how Rio explains it, anyway. Like he's mostly him, the way he used to be before, but some of him is Alex. It's a sort of a..."

"Combination," Rio finished, re-entering the room with a pair of cups and saucers - one for Laurence and one for Adi - and set them down for the two. He hadn't been eavesdropping (at least not the whole time), but he had caught the tail end of the current discussion.

Tsunake
That was a bit of a shock, and almost instantly the priest turned furious thoughts on the somewhat drowsing dragon. I would never do such a thing, I told you exactly what I meant! There was no mistaking the indignation in the other's tone, and after a moment, Laurence relented with some grumbled semblance of an apology.

Honestly, it probably would have been a fitting end if Shuo had decided to eat him--but Laurence wanted to be fully aware of it if such a thing was going to happen.

He jumped a little at Rio's voice, inclining his head respectfully to the god as he murmured his thanks. The tea cup was taken after a moment, and amber eyes flickered as much as they dared over Love's features. A combination, huh? "So you aren't quite what you used to be, anymore..." Was that what Shuo really intended for him?

"He says he isn't going to eat me." He relayed dryly for Adi and Rio's sake, and his smile was more of a smirk. "He's a little offended that it was even brought up."

Meepfur
"Exactly," Rio affirmed with a nod. "I find myself much more mortal in mindset, for instance. Like I'm just another person, even if I'm really not. And I have much clearer memories of being Alex than I do of being Rio. It's quite odd, at times."

"Good." Love was clearly glad to hear that Shuo found the concept of devouring his host offensive. "Our hosts give us a gift beyond imagining, and an experience the likes of which we will never have again. It's a shame not everyone chooses to appreciate that."

"I'm glad," Adrienne chimed in, tail thumping gently against the floor. "We can always be friends." Phlox disentangled himself from the furry pile in Adi's lap, sidling over to have a drink of her chai while she was preoccuppied.

Tsunake
The dragon had spoken far too often of lost memories for Laurence to forget, though it didn't keep his lips from pursing themselves slightly. If what Love was telling him was true, then he had been more or less 'humanized'. If such a thing were true for all gods, then there was a good chance it would leave them sympathetic to the plight of mortals, and they might be more inclined to aid those in need.

A thought-provoking system, to be sure.

Though he could feel the Dragon King's offense, he chose to keep it to himself, offering a muttered apology yet again. That'd been a stick up his a**, hadn't it? Well, the priest hadn't meant any offense, and was realizing grimly that he'd probably have to talk to Shuo about it later.

Adi's words earned a surprised look from Laurence that lasted only a moment. Friends, huh? Couldn't say he'd had many of those in a long time, and he'd return her smile faintly. "Yeah, yeah. You'll have to remember to come see me, when it's all said and done." Floox straightened up visibly at Phlox's actions, and Laurence found those dark, shiny eyes fixed upon his own tea cup soon enough. With a frown, the priest picked it up for another sip, if only to spite the little creature. His tea cup, thank you very much.

"So this. This eating thing. That's what I thought happened to most hosts; their soul is devoured so that the god can fill the empty shell left behind..."

Meepfur
"Of course! I bet you'll have a tail too, then. And maybe wings?"

Phlox chirped at Floox, inviting him to come over and share Adi's tea, too. She wouldn't mind! He did it all the time, so why shouldn't their new friend? Even little La was interested, clambering down to have a bit too.

The werewolf was happy to share, but four flooxes wouldn't leave her much chai, which was a little disappointing. Still, rather than shoo them away, she pretended not to notice. She couldn't really say no to such cute little fuzzies.

Fortunately for her, Rio noticed the unfolding 'incident' and called for Ishkhara, who was just outside, and sent her for a bowl of the stuff.

"It is the...standard procedure, I suppose. But everyone's situation is unique, and the decision ultimately a personal one. A god's domain can be an indication as to what they might do with their host, as much as it is of our nature. There are surprises, though; the God of Plague, for instance, is actually quite pleasant."

Adi nodded in agreement. "He smells kind of bad, though."

Tsunake
There was no disguising his shock that time, nor the uncomfortable roll of his shoulders. Wings and a tail. Maybe wings. "That sounds painful." The man rubbed his brow for a moment, though didn't look terribly distressed so much as he was resigned.

When Floox perked and made to scramble over, a hiss from the priest made him flatten to the floor, wide-eyed and the epitome of innocence. But oh! The man was putting his cup on the floor closer to the cluster of furry bodies, and Floox was all too happy to wiggle over and lap at the delicious contents within.

"I see." There was a mirthless quirk to his lips at that, and though he shook his head, he kept himself quiet. Typical, he supposed, that gods of more despicable domains would treat their hosts in a not-surprising fashion. He'd lucked out, and for some reason, that sent a stab of guilt through him.

Choosing not to dwell on that topic for a moment, Laurence had to snort at Adi's input on the Plague god. "I'm somehow not surprised. If I ever meet him, I'll keep that in mind." Another thoughtful frown was on his lips, and, though respectful, he would cautiously direct his next question to Rio. "So your host... Is she still... there? In your mind?" Would he be stuck within his own head once Shuo took over?

Meepfur
Rio shook his head. "No, not anymore. I merged with her quite some time ago, before Adi and her brother were born. But initially, we did remain separate; it's not very different from the way things are now, with your god's voice in your mind, only in reverse. And the host can come forward for short periods of time, an hour or two at most."

Which was how Adrienne and Kinsley had come to be, from one of Alex's 'turns' to be in control.

Adi giggled when Floox was 'caught,' and smiled widely when Laurence set down his drink to be shared. Both cups were soon joined by a bowl and ladle, delivered by Ishkhara.

Enough chai for everyone~! The werewolf filled her depleted cup and had a drink at last.

Tsunake
So he would still be there. He could still exist, still interact with people. Laurence didn't have any doubts that the Dragon King would let him do as he liked, but it was still reassuring to hear such things from another. But there would be an inevitable merge down the line, and the priest had to wonder; would there be more of Laurence, or Shuo? He had his money on the dragon, at any rate.

"Enough time to see Adi at least." There was a dry, but sincere smile at that, and the man kept a careful eye on Floox to make sure he was behaving himself. He'd picked up his tea to take a small sip again, apparently not giving a damn about 'animal germs', and nearly choked on it when the demonness set the bowl and ladle down in front of them.

Praying to God that the sudden streak of color in his face could be mistaken for a lack of air, the priest roughly cleared his throat, even forgetting to hiss at Floox when he happily stuck his nose in the bowl.

"Is it t-the same for everyone, do you know? The merging?" He managed to suppress most of his coughing, and wouldn't dare let his gaze stray back to the voluptuous form of Love's servant. The next glance might really kill him.

Meepfur
Fortunately for Laurence, Love's aoidei had been gently informed to take it easy on the priest. Once she'd delivered the bowl of chai for everyone's enjoyment, Ishkhara left to rejoin Shyamaath outside the room. Now that there was plenty to drink for all of them, and enough room around the large bowl, Adi's trio of flooxes all bellied up for their share.

Neither Adi nor Rio minded 'animal germs,' either, and didn't bat an eye. The werewolf smiled brightly when Laurence said he'd use his time to come and visit her. "I'll come visit you, too. I bet you'll have rooms by then."

"I doubt it." Love shook his head again as he answered. "I suspect it's unique to each god and host."

Tsunake
Had the priest known, he probably would have thanked Rio with absolute relief. It wasn't that he... well, no, all right. The workings of a woman's body, even a demon, was still something vastly unknown by Laurence, and he intended to keep it that way. Floox was eager to cuddle up to his new friends and lap at the sweet drink, his fluffy tail twitching just slightly.

"And if I don't, I'm staying in Illisia's place." Laurence added, though had to mull over the thought of his own room. Well, it'd be Shuo's room, technically. His until the dragon was strong enough to emerge, at any rate!

The priest would nod his head to Love, respectfully acknowledging that. "A personal thing, I'm sure." Therefore, he wouldn't pry anymore. He liked Rio, and was perhaps surprised to think about it, but the god clearly had cared about his host. And he cared for Adi too, like she was his daughter. ...Which she was, in a very strange sense.

Laurence tried not to choke on his tea again just thinking about it.

Meepfur
"You live with Illisia, really? That's awesome! I can visit you both at the same time." Adi giggled behind her cup. "We should have a sleepover sometime."

And he should get back to uh...being somewhere else. His impromptu contribution to the conversation at an end, Rio excused himself from the rest of it with a sympathetic, almost apologetic look for Laurence.

Oh, Adrienne.

Tsunake
Choking on his tea for a third time, the priest almost desperately watched Rio leave with a look that clearly said don't leave me alone with this. "Er. Yeah. I'm sure Illisia would like a. Uh. A sleepover." And he would politely excuse himself for the evening and find somewhere else to stay until morning rolled around and everyone was properly dressed.

Clearly his throat and trying to swiftly change the conversation, Laurence had to wrack his brain for a suitable topic. "Have you met any of these gods that weren't good to their hosts?" Not a pleasant topic maybe, but. "Or I guess anyone I should avoid."

Meepfur
"I'll ask her." Adi wagged her tail, excited by the prospect of spending time with two of her favorite people at once. They could play games and go swimming!

"Nope! I've never met anybody like that, and I'm glad. I wouldn't want to." If they were mean to their hosts, it followed that they'd be just plain mean, right? And she didn't want anything to do with mean people.

Tsunake
Laurence resisted the urge to rub at his brow again, and it was probably a very good thing that Adi hadn't brought up swimming. "I'm sure she won't mind." Came the mutter, and he realized this was probably going to be an unfortunate, inevitable thing.

...Christ, he hoped Love wasn't a vengeful father, and again thought about how he could squirm his way out of that uncomfortable situation.

"That's a relief. The worst I've heard of so far is this Plague god, and if you're telling me he isn't bad, well..." Things were looking pretty good in that direction, at least, and the man offered a mild shrug.

He remembered himself after a moment, frowning thoughtfully into his teacup before he forced himself to take another swallow. "You'll watch Floox for me, then? I think it's time I finally went and found Him."

The thought made his throat threaten to close off, and the man took a deep breath.

Meepfur
Adi's ears fell a little with disappointment, but she quickly put on a cheerful face, patting her furry little guest. "We'll take good care of him, promise!" Phlox and Dogwood yipped their agreement, and even La made a small sound. "And I'll find him a good name, too."

"Say hi for me?"

Tsunake
Unfortunately, the priest had sharp eyes, and he paused for a moment to study the girl who had somehow, but inevitably become close to him, unable to help a cynical little smile. "Hey, hey. None of that. I'll come by a lot sooner this time, alright? I just..." There was a frustrated little sigh, and he ran a hand through his hair. "Had some things to work out." And once he made his peace, things would be much better, or so he hoped.

Floox would be happy to chime in his agreement with the others, but then seemed to realize that Laurence was leaving. Looking from the priest to Adi, the little creature did his best to puff himself up, as though to proudly say that he'd be good while Laurence was gone--and he'd look after Adi!

With a snort, the man unconsciously reached out to touch Floox's head before he stood up. "I'll hold you to that. And I will. Take care, Adi. Thank you for the tea." He raised his voice loudly enough that he hoped it would be heard by Love and his servants both, though would thank them on the way out.

"And you stay out of trouble." His voice held no bite in it despite its sternness, and with another small grin at Adi, the priest rose to his feet and made his leave.

Well, he couldn’t say that the experience hadn’t been interesting. Love... was certainly quite the character. He was respectful though, and certainly well, he fit what Laurence’s expectation of a god would be. His help however—well, the thought of the female demonesses together was enough to make him clear his throat uncomfortably. Well, he’d been perfectly confident when he told Adi that he was finally going to see Lord Harmodius, but the longer he walked through the Pantheon, the more he could feel the anticipation knotting itself up in his gut. Eventually, he leaned up against one of the white, stone walls, staring out at the gardens even as he mulled over exactly what he would say.

It was shameful, but he had not prayed since coming to the Pantheon. Was it out of fear? Maybe. With God so close by, there was no doubt that He would be able to hear his thoughts, and Laurence didn’t feel as though he deserved to burden God with it.

You would not be a burden to him. Shuo chided, and Laurence couldn’t help but shake his head with irritation. It’s true. What good will delays do? You won’t stop thinking about it—and I believe meeting with Him would help clear your mind. He will forgive you. You know that. Laurence’s faith dictated as much, did it not?

The priest sighed slowly, gritting his teeth to himself with frustration. It didn’t matter how right the dragon was. He knew the teachings better than anyone—or so he could convince himself in the heat of the moment—but this was just too much. Still, he pushed himself up and started to walk. One step at a time, out into the gardens. It all didn’t feel so bad if he just focused on putting foot in front of the other.

It was time.

His nerves were shot, his mouth dry, his hands shaking a little. He could feel the dragon wrap around his quivering soul in silent support, both uplifting and strengthening his resolve.

I will be here. Mang promised, and though the intention was kind, Laurence snorted sarcastically. Being babied by a formerly dead Dragon King. These past few days, weeks, whatever they'd been, couldn't be any weirder. Still, for all his cynicism, he grudgingly appreciated the support.

They were both going to need it.

His long legs carried him through the Pantheon, the sound of his shoes against the stone almost helping to soothe his frazzled thoughts. It was rhythmic, not unlike a metronome, and he sighed for a moment even as he began to make his way down the steps. The gardens, he'd been told. That was one of the places Lord Harmodius chose to roam.

The priest would pause for a moment when his feet hit the grass, bright eyes flickering over the grounds. Nothing, so far. He'd take another few breaths to compose himself first, getting ready to go. "You ready?" He'd quietly ask.

Of course. There was no denying the subtle eagerness to Shuo's tone, and the man would chuckle, despite himself. It was hard to believe he'd been patient for this long.

NinetailedNightmare
James had been doing a lot of soul-searching these days, if one could really call it that. The Esarian hadn't seen hide or hair of Arden in what seemed like forever with no semblance of time to help him recognize the passing days. It was just as well, because he'd been out more than he had been 'home', making observations and taking notes. It was curious- so many things on this god world resembled things on Earth, whether it be the local flora and fauna or the things that fantasy was made of. He had met a girl, half wereworlf, half demigod, and they had chatted over tea as if it were the most commonplace thing in the universe. By all means, it was ludicrous, at least in the sense of how mixed her genes had appeared, assuming for a moment lycanthropy truly existed. Then there was Echo, the Goddess of Music, and the young godling pair outside of the teahouse to consider. Even one like him, so dedicated to science and reason, could not deny the radiance that shone from within their bodies and emanated the evidence of of their respected domains. And they had all been kind to him, if a little perplexed toward his drive. They were almost human. Almost.

Each god that was reborn into the world had a reason specific to themselves when it came to choosing a host- that was what Echo had told him. The hosts did not have to be remotely human, but it was the popular form to take. And when the god rose to power, it could choose to break the host's soul -the soul!- for good or meld along with it. His mind traveled afterward to Arden, as he thought it all over; the marine had mentioned something similar, only with the intention that he was going to leave some sort of impression on the deity that possessed his body before he was gone for good. If that was true, if the Hollow Mouth was so unkind to Arden to warrant, then why had he been taken as host in the first place? Surely there were weaker souls -oh, now they had him believing in souls!- out there to consume and break than the soldier. Was it Arden's body? Yes, he truly was a fit man, but James had seen bigger, stronger. What did Famine want?

Puzzling, it was all very puzzling. One thing was for certain, though: Arden was wanted, no matter how willing to the attention he was. That was a lot more than James, who had his freedom and an innumerable amount of years of life ahead, could say. Earth had nothing left for him, and Esare didn't want his taint walking down their prestigious halls. In his exile, he was just going to have to learn to appreciate this god world, which still had no native name for him to refer to. This would have to be his home now.

James was just beginning to head back to the Pantheon from his time spent in part of the garden, speaking with Echo. Overall, he was feeling very thoughtful, as if there was something he was somehow missing despite the interview going over relatively well. His recording instrument, a pen, and pad of notepaper were cradled lovingly in his arms, full of notes on all he'd learned so far or thought particularly interesting. Cutting around one of the larger hedges, he was greeted with the sight of the Pantheon and a shadow detaching itself from the steps. Was it someone new? Highly probable, seeing as he'd only met a handful of denizens so far! Soon enough, the subject of his interest passed under a light and -yes!- it was someone he didn't recognize. It was a man, he was certain, though his hair was beginning to get rather long for the general norm of the gender. Human. Well, James still had space in his books, and it would be a waste to turn down this opportunity!

"Hello!" He hailed the unsuspecting man and dragon, taking the initiative to turn and make a bee-line in their direction. "Hello, sir? Do you have a moment?"

Tsunake
The sudden greeting was enough to make him glance over, mildly surprised. Of course, the sight of the young man with all his notes immediately reminded him of some sort of reporter, lip curling before he could help himself. The forwardness of the guy struck chords with him, rubbed him the wrong way, and he had to work at keeping himself composed.

What's wrong? Shuo was curious, if not intrigued by the sight of the newcomer. So friendly! Still, he would leave the decision up to Laurence, of course, even if there was a chance the mortal needed help or something of the like.

Just tired. Laurence dismissed it. Stressed. An amber eye fixed itself on the earnest face, taking in the curly hair, the glasses, the state of his clothes. He looked like an ordinary, enough, surprisingly so for all that had gone on here these days. God, he'd kill for some clean clothes, now that he was thinking on it, but eventually shifted his attention back to the other.

"No. Not really." He didn't mind his curtness, letting his eyes slide away from the other as though almost bored. "But I'll hear you out, anyway. What?"

No sense of tact. The dragon admonished lightly, sympathetic for the stranger, but still somehow endeared towards his host. For all his blusterings, he had a good heart, and refused to let himself stray from that path if he could so help it.

NinetailedNightmare
The negative response had the Esarian pausing a beat, only a blink betraying his surprise. So, this would not be quite as friendly as an encounter as he would have suspected. That was alright, though! He was nothing if not adaptable, and in his time, James had dealt with more than a few bad tempers and flat-out enmity. At least the humanoid had not attempted to attack him, or demean him. Until the former happened, he still had a chance of getting something out of him.

"Ah, well. What I have to say could just as easily be made in motion. I'll accompany you to your destination," He said brightly, giving the amiable sort of smile that seemed to speak of honey and hope. He wasn't asking, but it was far too friendly to be demanding in a way. After all, he was trying to make an allowance for this man's oh-so busy schedule, "My name is James, James Dionysus. I'm fairly new to the Pantheon and I have been interested in reviewing the local activity in the interest of knowledge. I'm making an effort to get to know any new faces I come across and, well, I've never seen you before! Are you in some sort of association with the gods here, or have you simply come seeking shelter after the atrocity of the Gehenna, mister...?"

Tsunake
The guy was going to be willing to walk with him, huh? Laurence didn't mind that, not in the least. Wouldn't slow him down then, and he could entertain whatever it was this stranger wanted. His long chin tilted downward only briefly in assent before he started to move, continuing his way down the rest of the steps and into the gardens. "Laurence Pershary." Was the first answer in response to all the chatter, like he was picking and choosing the bits he wanted to answer first. James Dionysus, huh? Sounded Greek, he thought.

He was probably way off the mark, but whatever.

"I'm a host." Came the second answer after a time, his trench coat briefly flicked away so James could get a look at the dragon gem embedded just above his heart. "Did me a favor, which I don't feel like talking about, and so it's the least I can do, to help him out." He rounded his way past one of the statues, eyes sliding to their corners for a moment. "You a reporter? You know an awful lot, for being fairly new." That wasn't necessarily a compliment.

NinetailedNightmare
"Laurence." For some reason or another, his lips quirked a bit at the name. He perked, though, as the other mentioned that he was yet another vessel for a nameless god that faded long ago. This was new, though. Apparently the stone had somehow managed to save the man, if his attitude was any indication, from a sticky situation. James, for all his seemingly obtuse mannerisms, got the message. Not many personal questions regarding this Laurence fellow then. Alright.

"Heavens, no. Not by your definition, I would suppose. A reporter tends to gather then garnish facts to suit an audience. No, Laurence, I am a researcher. It is pure knowledge I seek, for the pure sake of knowledge itself. Science stands to learn a lot if a faith be proven true, you see." A simple and honest explanation for him, but he was honestly still a little skeptical. True, he had seen these supposed deities, and they most certainly seemed different, but could they really muster much more than what a mortal could manage? He had met Music and her wings that hummed with voice he couldn't explain on simple sight alone, and while she was full of grace, he had yet to be impressed into faith. Was that callous? Perhaps. He still liked them, though. They were beautiful creatures, and aside from the Hollow Mouth, he had heard good things in their name. "May I ask whom you are host to?"

He quite obviously oggled the stone in the meantime, leaning over somewhat to get a better look. He wanted to touch, and it wasn't inconspicuous, but for one reason or another he refrained.

Tsunake
He was hard pressed to sneer at the mention of science and faith, glancing to more fully take in the little mouse of a man. More people didn't believe in religion than those who did these days, or that was how it seemed. "Science stands to learn a lot, period." He said frankly. "You know these are gods, and yet you're trying to tell me you still are trying to prove they're real? That God exists?" He resisted the urge to yank irritably at the cross around his neck, and didn't think to perhaps explain he was a priest. Better not, really; then, of course, the guy'd just assume he was biased.

Which he was. But this was real.

"Shuo Huang Zhe. Mang. The Dragon King." The man said shortly. He could feel said dragon's interest, but he was staying quiet for now, allowing Laurence to converse. "They're different from the gods. I know there's... nine Kings, I think Shuo said." Of whom they'd met two, so far, and knew of the existence of a few more.

NinetailedNightmare
The smaller man tilted his head slightly at the verbose statement, a small, bemused tugging at his lips. "In comparison to what, Laurence?" He would have to agree that human science had made impressive, but overall paltry advancements from what he'd studied, so James didn't fault him much for his statement. He was clearly treading on precarious ground with the host, who seemed to think that James was threatening everything he believed by asking questions. So he bowed his head a bit, pushing his glasses further up his nose in a humble gesture of dismissal. "I am not trying to prove or disprove anything. I am simply gathering information and composing a report from my experience. It has very little to do with my personal opinion."

The mention of the Dragon King was enough to warrant a small shift in the man's posture, his green eyes dropping once more to the stone in the other's chest. "I've never heard of these Kings," He said softly, his arms tightening a little around his materials, "What do they do?"

Tsunake
The priest drew himself up a little more, unable to tell if the man was goading him or not, and settling for the former. "Don't play games with me." The cross was tugged on for real now, letting the chain bite into his neck as though to remind him to not lose his temper entirely. In his mind, the man knew exactly what he was talking about, and he wasn't about to rise to the challenge though his teeth had clenched themselves a little more firmly together.

"I think it's safe to say you aren't a big believer in faith. Understand that I'm not very inclined to spew bullshit for you so you can scribble it down in some notepad to evaluate later." The man snapped, and when the other's attention seemed to alter immediately to the stone, he had to physically keep himself standing in place so he wouldn't just turn and walk away.

What did they do? He could feel Shuo stir a little, clearly quite happy to answer such a question, but he refused to relinquish his voice. "No? Isn't that a shame." The priest clearly wasn't feeling charitable with his limited information.

NinetailedNightmare
James had quite large eyes for a man his age, and they blinked expressively behind his glasses at the retort, eyebrows raising slowly to reflect surprise. Oh. In a way, he did feel guilty for what he had said, for the man had obviously had taken it as an unjustified affront to whatever he stood for. It would be a lie to say that James didn't enjoy a good debate, that he didn't pose questions that fished for more than one answer. But his words hardly ever held malice, and while he had been making the suggestion that science was the source of all knowledge, he'd hardly intended to put the human in a lather. And oh yes, he did seem mad, tugging at his charm and introducing expletives into his uncourteous speech as he standoffishly suggested just where James could put his curiosity.

By nature, James was not a confrontational creature. He bowed his head somewhat beneath the stream of ire, not from fear, but grace. Grace to accept that he was approaching this from the wrong angle, that he would need to humble himself if he wished to get any further. "I apologize," He told the other, a shy glance of emerald beneath his lashes, "It has never been my intention to offend you, Laurence. I am here to learn, nothing more and nothing less. I'd like to find any truth I can, and if you were to help me, I would be grateful. I... I had never wished to seem as if I did not respect your beliefs. I do."

He raised his head again somewhat, his eyes homing in on the cross that Laurence had taken as some sort of pacifier. Faith was so strange to him and yet... "You are... a Christian, perhaps?" He hazarded.

Tsunake
In truth, Laurence would have welcomed a fight, a reason to further spit in the little man's face before he finally left him with a bruised ego to nurse and think on. But for the other to be humbled so was enough to neatly puncture his anger, and though it could not be quelled entirely, the priest was able to reel it in. Now he was cold, stony almost, and intended to remain that way for as long as James was in his presence. Further apologies, and though his lip curled brazenly into a sneer, he said nothing to disparage them.

Slow breaths were taken, seething ones, but James didn't need to know that. "Yes." Though curt, an answer was an answer. All his life, mostly, since he'd been a young boy. His faith had been the only thing to hold onto in darker times, and he guarded it jealously even now.

"There are nine of them." Came the sudden snap. "Nine Kings. They protect..." The answer was supplied for him by the dragon when he faltered. "...the Crown. The Twin Crown. God." Though the cross still rested against his fingers, he no longer yanked at it so.

"They serve Him without question. That's their purpose." He was short again, no longer so distant as he remembered whom he was speaking to.

In due time, Laurence was able to convince the man to come see Harmodius with him. He would be able to handle these questions much better than the temperamental priest...

There had been the sound of trickling echoing through the alleys. She followed it though some display windows, past the security desks and turnstiles of the mall admittance, through the shopfronts into the back bowels and maze of plywood walls and cement floors that only employees once saw in their meanderings to take out trash of get a smokey treat. No, more then one. Where was here?

"Is this yours? There's water here. Plants. That's impossible."

That was as far as she was willing to go; there was one authority even Phaedra wasn't entirely willing to usurp. "I am Phaedra. You came seeking water? Greenery? There is plenty here for all. Plenty of other things, too, should you desire them." She extended tendrils of power, wondering - what did this woman want? She looked exotic enough, tough enough, to have desires beyond the pithy horrors of shelter and a good life.

Want was just as easily mixed with anger in her. She'd had what she'd wanted in life, had in it hand and it was stolen away. She'd had a job.

Pyrotechnics on the road, living prefect to prefect and concert to concert on tour with the band. She'd had love, five bandmates who got along and shared perks and friendship as well as beds. She'd had fame, any asking price she could think up and still deny all the rest to keep with her crew. Oh, she'd been loyal.

Then there weren't any concerts, no money, no music. No nothing except running from place to place looking for food and waiting for everyone to die off, psych out, starve or sweat to death in fever.

She wanted it back. She wanted friends, fame, fortune and glory. She wanted fans and a band, and to make s**t blow up for thousands. This cut-and-run survival crap was grating and dull. She'd cut, and do it damn fine. She'd find a city and people to wow with art again, and she'd find it standing.

"Greenery is a good start. Food. There's gotta be a lot of people here, right? There's no coven I've found of survivors that have found some stash that there wasn't a rat's nest of them. "

"What's the catch? There's always some initiation to get the goods. I'm not in the mood for staying if I've gotta hitch up to some cult; you don't look a whole lot like a scrapper. I don't have much to trade, but I can get s**t done. "

There didn't look like a bodyguard was about either. Not that this one looked like it was worth roughing up. She had nice curves; luxurious like leather interior and a cashmere throw in a car with its own pool.

"There are gods here, but no cults - I'm sure you won't believe me on that score, not yet. In time you will, perhaps. Or you won't. Either way, you can prove the truth of what I say easily enough. Just look around." She shrugged, then grinned again.

"As for me, I revel in Greed. In the hunger and adulation of the crowd, the glories and debaucheries of civilization. Something that's so lacking these days, wouldn't you agree? But here there is a seed of rebirth. A new beginning, something that could turn back into that wild and tumbled world we both loved. If only it didn't take so damnably long!"

It was meant to be a quiet day for both of them. At the very least one away from the forge for Taj, the god was quite certain that it would be interrupted in some fashion. Something was always happening.

Maddie giggled clinging to his father's shirt tightly with one hand. Continually he tried crawling up over Mystery's shoulder to get to the wings and feathers, small fingers reaching. Taj would let him get so far before pulling him back with a smile. It was becoming a game.

As he rounded the pillar, Taj suddenly stopped at the sound of voices. Neither one he recognized but there were enough people here that he doubted he would know but a few of them. Still, he stopped just to the side, watching them as Madrigal tried once more to reach his wings.

Perhaps they'd not play in the fountain. He was suddenly quite certain neither would like being splashed with the water.

Well, she certainly came off half-raving like a diva. She spoke of crowds, and civilizations. "You don't look like a who lotta rock, but I'm pickin' up some of what you're putting down."

"You know where there's a city near here then? Where one was? " Finding anything more then three-stories that was still standing anymore had to be the work of some primeval almighty anyway.

He wasn't best pleased with the new acquisition to their duo; it seemed like they'd gotten rid of one small, chittering creature only to pick up a larger, man-shaped one. Truth be told, he knew he was irritable and it would probably be better to not take it out on James. That was why he was silent, stonily so, and allowing Mang to do the talking for him. Everyone was happy, that way. All he had to do was move his feet, and let his eyes scan over the gardens for... well, God.

The priest prayed he'd sense Him, or that if they stumbled upon Him by mere chance, He would be recognizable. He knew his luck wasn't that good though, but kept the grumbled comments to himself.

"I assure you, our Lord will be able to clear things up for you. There are many gods and goddesses still trapped within their gems, and they will need strength and faith from potential supporters, such as yourself." Shuo was quite taken with the energetic mortal.

Voices carried, soft, but definitely feminine, and the priest unconsciously veered around one of the many columns, drawn by the sound and the constant trickle of water.

Two women--one decidedly not human, while the other looked somewhat more normal. The dragon cut off in mid-sentence to pause, evaluating the situation for a moment. Another of my kin. You feel that sensation of want, in the air...?

The priest did, and he didn't like it. Dark eyes slid to James, as though seeing what he thought about the situation before he'd step forward. Maybe they knew where Harmodius was. If not, he knew Shuo would be pleased to introduce himself to another god or goddess...

He'd keep himself at a respectable distance, once he caught glimpse of yet another man--god, from the wings--and the child in his arms. So many gathered here. It made him feel like maybe they were close, at last. "They might know where Lord Harmodius is." He muttered for James' benefit, finally speaking to the man.

Oh, this was fun; she was starting to adapt, to understand the delightfully odd way of speaking this woman had. Slang and patter were all part of blending, a skill she'd had all too little time to play with as of late.

"If I were you, I'd stay here for a while. It's safe, as long as you don't cross anything pissier than you are," she added, with a nod and a grin, acknowledging the woman's tough nature. "Avoid the doors upstairs unless you want to find out about divine power close and personal."

She heard others now, moving about, perhaps attracted by the sound; normally she'd welcome company, but she was having such fun alone... "What's your name, anyway? Told you mine. Fair's fair."

His eyes caught sight of the others as they stopped nearby also. The voices had drawn them as they had him. It was obvious the woman had just arrived.

Avoid the doors upstairs.. snagged his attention. Shifting Madrigal, he pulled his tablet free to write on it. Did Greed not know of the mortal hallway upstairs for those in need?

< A plain door next to bubbles will shelter mortal needs. >

Moving forwards, he inclined his head to Greed before holding the tablet out to both. His lips twitched wondering how she would take the interference. She could continue to play afterwards with the girl if that was what she wished.

More BI-zarre names. Nothing she remembered off the positioning systems of charts. Footsteps behind her too slow and obvious to be an ambush so she casually turned to the side so that neither of these were at her back and ready to donkey-punch her in the back of the skull.

"The planet ain't equitable, and I don't have my ex-position. World isn't fair, but if you want a name, I go by Hjava. Sur's are for pussies who need more then one. Glad you do the same. Faydra...It's got about five golden rings to it, maybe a ringtone even if communications get up and running. "

No cities. Well, that was a strike for this area. But people, shelter, info and food were a home run to at least take the advice and stay for more then the minute it took to refill canteens and walk to the border. She looked back, all while slipping a hand into her pocket to put on the tour rings of all her mates...impromptu brass knuckle stand-in, at the newcomer walking and standing there waiting in Captain Obvious vision.

Then there was some freak just prancing upto her like a pony with some pet on his arm, "Speak it up, if you're gonna live it up. I have no problems at all making your face greet the green Earth if you get outa line, so lets start it straight. You keep your kindly distance til I know you're not a inpatient on outpatient status."

She back-stepped at the approach and lifted the glinting fist in warning and pugilist preparation.

A Dragon King! When the little tidbit had been revealed to him, the researcher had been near ecstatic, unable to quite comprehend his luck. Well, truth be told, he didn't know quite how lucky he was, but apparently these Kings were a rarity among the gods, whose numbers seemed as numerous (by tale, not by his own observation) as stones along the riverbed. This was why it was important to question everyone when you had the opportunity in a more open society- you never knew just what sort of observation you could be missing if you stopped for a moment to consider caution! Not that he hadn't been cautious enough, mind you, but he did consider himself somewhat an expert on the human species and their Earthly abilities. Laurence, from the outside, had not seemed like a man who could brutalize him easily. If anything, he looked drastically underfed.

But the priest had shown he had a trick up his sleeve yet. Or, to be more correct, a godly presence. Another host. They had spent some time meandering through the garden, not simply content to wait for their Godot, and they had conversed on whatever the Esarian felt fit to bring up. Shuo was quite charming, something James was beginning to think was inherent of all gods. The subject had come up pertaining to hosts, and James had inquired innocently as to what Shuo thought really made a good host to a deity. He had gotten an answer before, but he it would be folly to hold one opinion over another in his line of work. Could anyone, a seemingly ordinary Joe-Schmoe like James, for example, be a host? And understandably, Shuo had taken it as an offer.

The resulting conversation was promising, however, and now James turned it over in his mind as he walked side by side with Dragon King and host. A follower? Well, perhaps. He was not opposed to servitude, so long as he was allowed some life of his own. Worship, though... Worship might take some getting used to!

Suddenly, the other paused in his phrase, and James dutifully looked over to him, then followed his eyes. Off in the distance, there were three. Two were strange, feline-featured humanoids and one was what looked like a human girl. Were these servants, the aoide? How naive he was at the time to suspect as much. As Laurence made the aside to him, James perked a little, giving a nod to indicate he thought it'd be a good idea.

"My lord," He said humbly enough with a hint of a wry smile. It was the first time James had granted anyone the honorable the whole duration of his stay. Shuo could lead the way. The group looked a little busy, besides, and James was shameless enough to let the god be his escort. His cover story, in a sense.

Enekpe's day so far had been uneventful, as most of her days were now - and which, in her opinion, was a very good thing! She much preferred lazing around or playing with Ari the floox to the way things had been before. Who wouldn't? Every now and then she might get a little bored, but that was easy enough to nap away, or else she could talk to k**e. Today, all she'd done so far was go for a swim.

As the still-soggy pooka set off in search of a snack to follow her bath, she caught wind of a vaguely familiar scent, and decided to follow it and save eating for later. She wasn't that hungry; food could wait when there were friends to see! Soon enough, she caught sight of the priest - and there was someone with him! And some other people nearby...?

After a quiet chuckle to herself, she made to creep up behind Laurence with a mischievous little "Boo!"

Ostentatious, but who has use for even shiny rocks when you can't trade them for moldy crusts? It was a kindness. You will be welcome there, should you choose-"

She couldn't ignore this other god's intrusion any more. As she turned, she gave the offered tablet a cursory glance. "Don't worry, Hjava. None here will harm you, and if they try... I'm sure between the two of us we could drop them." She grinned ferally back at the woman before turning a scowl to Tajnevaki.

"Your knowledge is appreciated, but this is hardly the time," she hissed.

Hjava, she said, foreign and certainly nothing he'd heard of before, followed by what sounded like 'Faydra.' The goddess' name? Perhaps. He was content to watch for now, as when the man stepped forward as held something up to the pair... well, the following conversation seemed tense, at best. "Calm the ******** down." He snorted at the girl with her multicolored hair, not impressed and irritated by her, though he shouldn't have been. They'd all gone through trying times, undoubtedly, but he was not in the mood.

James' words made him snort again, not so much at the respect due, but by the way the dragon swelled with pleasure. "Perhaps it would be best, if we simply observed." Shuo spoke aloud for the mortal's benefit, though would extend his voice, notably deeper than Laurence's. "She is right; we mean you no harm, and apologize for the lack of introduction--" The dragon was cut abruptly off as the priest practically jumped out of his skin, whirling about for his assailant with narrowed eyes and curled lips before, realizing, his gleaming eyes dropped downward.

"Enekpe." He grunted, feeling pissed off and stupid, but also not about to take it out on the pooka. "Scared the hell outta me, don't do that." Turning his back on the three, he crouched to better look at the small creature, patting at her head for a moment. "You holdin' up all right?" A pause. "Enekpe, this is James. This is Enekpe. She's a host, too." He grunted at the other man, clearly going to at least introduce them.

User ImageMystery blinked in surprise. Her speech was so strange and she spoke of things he had not heard of. He did however recognize an inpatient on outpatient status.

She thought he was crazy? Or perhaps uncertain? Most likely the second option.

His lips twitched upwards into a cheshire grin. Shrugging he glanced over at Phaedra, amused by her words as much as the others. Writing again, he penned, < Dear Greed, continue your play. A fountain and mad raven await Mystery. >

The tablet was only held long enough for the goddess to see before he bowed, turning towards the fountain nearby. Madrigal tried to climb his shoulder again but then giggled as his father put him on the edge letting him kick his bare feet in the water.

The alien disguised as a brunette man was simply content to observe as Shuo's host snapped at the pretentious female, only offering a blink in response to his tone. His eyes admittedly wandered as Mang himself perked up to speak, acknowledging the statement inwardly while he took a study of Taj and his brood. Only when he heard the 'boo!' start up from somewhere beside him did he whip around to see Laurence's body in possession of a new, fuzzy growth. What in the worlds...?

"A... A host?" James echoed, his brows hitching up in surprise as he considered the little animal. "You're sentient, then? How curious. Enekpe, indeed, it is a pleasure to make your acquaintance! Do you have a moment? I didn't know non-humanoids could be hosts."

Meepfur
"Hehehehe," Enekpe giggled merrily. "Sorry! But it was fun." She hadn't had anyone to do that to in ages! She'd spent quite some time avoiding people entirely, given that she was small and potentially edible, but now she had friends she could play games with! Even if they weren't necessarily as amused as she was...

She wagged her tail happily at the head-pattings, answering with an "Mm-hm! How're you?" before peering up at the man she was introduced to. "Hello, James!"

Her look turned briefly puzzled, however, as she didn't have a clue what 'sentient' meant. "Sentient? Nah, I'm a pooka!"

Tsunake
"Yeah, yeah, yeah." The priest grumbled, and while the female was temporarily distracted with James, he muttered a prayer for forgiveness under his breath. Too much swearing and bad temper, and though they'd been rightly used in the heat of the moment, he was still working on trying to curb those particular vices.

"I'm well. Shuo says hi." He relayed dutifully before snorting slightly at her denial that she wasn't sentient, but a pooka instead.

She was really rather endearing, despite himself.

"Went to Adi's place to drop off Floox, for a bit. Gonna recollect him one day." As in, whenever he felt like it and whenever he had a place to keep the little creature. Illisia's room was enormous, true, but he had a feeling the little creature would vanish into the wilderness in a heartbeat, if allowed. "Where's yours at?"

He would pause to watch Taj and the newcomer for a moment, his gaze pointedly unfriendly, and Shuo would rebuke him a little, but to no avail. Laurence just wasn't in a good mood right now.

NinetailedNightmare
If James spared the childlike newcomer a glance, it was brief, and he dutifully chuckled softly at the little animal's response. "Sentience is a state of mind, indicating a state of perception, generally of the self. Many animals act upon an instinctual basis, thinking of survival and procreation only. Sentient beings hold the culpability of reason, in the most base of my perception of it. That you speak with us and retain a recognition beyond safety and potential food source makes you sentient."

Laurence was speaking, and he paused to allow the man to relate to the creature while he pondered over her very existence. A pooka? That name meant something to him, in terms of mythology. Irish origin, dealing with fae creatures who took the form of a horse or mongrel, always shadowed. Somehow, he had always gotten the impression that they were much more... sinister. Despite the lore that said they were, ultimately, benevolent tricksters. In this manner, Enekpe fit the bill. But perhaps there was another creature, such as her, that called themselves the Pooka... It was not unlikely in the least.

"Adi?" His senses perked at the familiar name. He had met her, hadn't he? And her floox, Phlox. "Hmm." Was the additive, meant to suggest Laurence not mind his interjection for now.

Meepfur
"Hi to you too, Shuo!" En chirped back at the dragon. "I dunno where she's at. She didn't come swimming with me."

...hmm. Enekpe listened to James' explanation with her head tilted, and a comical look of half-understanding concentration on her face. Sentient she might be, but her education, could it be called such, was very limited. What she gathered, more or less, was that being sentient meant she could talk. There were a couple of words in there she didn't know.

Since he was obviously willing to clarify such things, she asked, "What's procreation?"

Tsunake
"Just as well." The man muttered to himself; he didn't need the floox giving him doe-eyes because Floox wasn't around.

My, you thought I could be confusing. Shuo chuckled at the man's description of sentience, and Laurence just rubbed at his brow for a moment. Then, of course, Enekpe had to focus on that "procreation" term, and the priest could already see the wheels turning in James' brain. Before the man could answer, Laurence would hastily interject, shooting the man a venomous stare that dared him to try and talk over what he was about to say.

"It basically means having kids." The dark-haired man said gruffly, shaking his head slightly. No need to get graphic with the pooka, thanks. He didn't even know if her species could procreate, though there was no reason he saw that said she couldn't.

NinetailedNightmare
Indeed, he was about to dutifully inform her of the mechanics that determined procreation (after all, he was always eager to please when it was a subject he knew of) when he was suddenly affronted with a harsh look from his happenstance companion. His lips thinned, instinct telling him to sink into a defensive stance should the vicious thing strike for his throat. What he did do was clear his throat, reaching up to fiddle with his glasses as if they weren't straight enough on his nose as it was.

"Yes, essentially, Laurence is correct," James agreed passively. "Enekpe, if I may ask, who do you serve host to?"

Meepfur
"Oh." Well! For a mystery word like that, it wasn't terribly interesting. Not to her, anyway, since she'd certainly never be involved in any sort of...procreation. "Pooka don't have kids."

En paused to shake some of the water from her shaggy coat and sat, making herself comfortable. There were other words she would have liked to ask him about, but he asked her a question first, and so she answered, "Kikechum! She's the goddess of animals."

Tsunake
"They don't?" He asked before he could catch himself, blinking for a moment. "How did you start... well, existing, then?" Surely there was some method to it. Unless she told him she and her kind simply appeared in a puff of smoke--or better yet, she was the only one of her kind.

While Enekpe spoke to James, Shuo privately saw to addressing his host's irritation. We will find Him soon.

I know. The man replied, curt but not unkind. He'd wanted to get it over quickly, that was all. Now he was being forced to slow down--but he could and would deal with it.

Besides, seeing Enekpe again was nice, and certainly not something he regretted.

NinetailedNightmare
"I see." From the pouch at his hip, James drew a pad and paper and began to scribble down information. Without looking up, he said, "Laurence does pose an valid point. If you would enlighten us, Enekpe...?"

Meepfur
"Nope," she confirmed, shaking her head. "We're made! Evolved pooka, anyway. I'm not sure how the normal ones start." After a moment, she added with one of those shiny new words, "They're not sentient. But for us, they get a couple of regular pooka and put their influences together, and then there's an egg!" En, truth be told, only had a very vague and not an entirely accurate idea of how she'd come to be, and didn't know much more about her parent species.

"And we bond to somebody when we hatch, and that's our person."

Tsunake
Made... And what they were made from--they couldn't talk and process thoughts, like she could? "That sounds complicated." Laurence rolled his shoulders, somewhat thoughtful. Influences--did that mean the parents... were more or less used up, in the creation of a child of sorts? He wasn't quite sure, and didn't know if he wanted to dwell on it.

"Ah." Yes, she'd told him about her person--and how her person had died. So clearly, they didn't need their bonded to survive, though clearly Enekpe was still quite sad over it. He was satisfied with the answer, and saw no more reason to pry, but knowing James...

...Well, James was James.

NinetailedNightmare
"...Astounding." The Esarian would say, his eyes moving to study Enekpe anew. The process she was describing was not like anything else he had ever heard, which was saying something for James. It was possible, given her current intelligence, that she wasn't exactly being true to whatever the process actually was. Still, he took the notes down exactly as she had said them, thinking it over. As far as the growth of her species went, the 'evolved' pooka she called it, well, that could simply be a type of metamorphosis or maturity.

"You mentioned a person..." Laurence had hit the nail on the head, despite the fact that they had known one another for all of about an hour or so. If there was anything predictable about James, it was his tendency to ask questions, even if those might be things a human might term rude or personal. "After you received your gem, did you leave them? Where is your bonded?"

Meepfur
"She died," En answered sadly, her ears falling back and her feather-crest flattening. "A long time ago." It seemed like a long time to her, anyway, though how long it had actually been escaped her. She'd been through a lot since then, and her carefree life as a housepet seemed at once very far away and as though it was only a few days behind her.

"That's when I left. I didn't have k**e then."

Did no one ever speak here that breaking the silence brought them out of the corners like a hive of bees? Well, she'd wanted people and apparently that was easily granted.

The conversations fragmented between sources, traveled here or there and left. She just listened for a moment, jaw set firmly. Well, asylums usually did have open spaces and gardens. This one had necessities of life. No cities nearby, the door to the mall was gone...

So where did that all leave her? Well, the cat-girl with the crystal eye had given her a clue-in on a place to go at least. Specifics were good. Kitty had fangs too. Preferable to mimes with kids and dudes who talked to stuffed animals.

So there was an upstairs, however that worked in a building that looked like it came from ancient ocean-side pinnacles. She could kinda see the stairs inside, craning.

"As long as everyone is copacetic keeping more then arms length, I'll gladly keep it on the DL."

Gods would always be here, mortals would not. The goddess nodded at Hjava. "There's nowhere near here by that name. This place is called the Pantheon. Make of it what you will." She arched one eyebrow at the mortal, amused. She hardly expected this one to take the name literally, not with the healthy armor of cynicism the mortal seemed to cultivate.

"I assume you came here by unknown means?"

Tsunake
Astounding. Was it really? His gaze slid across the gardens, silently taking in their surroundings and searching for any new faces besides the four. As it were, two of the men--gods?--seemed to be going, and Laurence felt a little more at ease with that.

The sadness of the pooka had his eyes narrowing a little, and though the priest sad nothing, there was a notable tension framing his shoulders, his face, like taut strings. Should James pull them too much, they'd snap, and that wouldn't be fun for anyone present.

"A lot of people died." He said curtly, less to En and more to his nosy companion. Then, perhaps unexpectedly, he left them to their conversation again, removing himself by taking a few steps so James could continue without a sneering shoulder angel monitoring his words. The women were still there, but unless they addressed him, he wasn't much in the mood for initiating conversation.

"Unknown to me at least." Didn't mean it wasn't known to someone. " I followed the sound of water and walked out here. "

Pantheon came across to her as 'every god' ...taking that whole shindig further down the river. Why not? If you had food and shelter and living green stuff, standing buildings and a population, you may as well call yourselves gods. Maybe there was an opening for god of L'oreal. If there was something she'd been able to pick up plenty of and stuff into her knap it was an unhealthy supply of makeup. Useful for tours, not for eating.

Such delights, alas, were likely not to be seen with Creation. "Remember what I said about my door, Hjava," she called, making absolutely no effort to follow her.

NinetailedNightmare
"I see. That is unfortunate. I'm sorry." James told her, allowing his voice to soften a little from its normal, curious beat. He didn't miss Laurence's input and his tone, but he gracefully ignored the man's attitude for the most part. The pooka had nicknamed her goddess, something James found a little curious being it was so... familiar a mannerism. One might have thought a deity would prefer their full name spoken unless given the permission otherwise. Perhaps it was one of the host's rights.

He was about to speak more when he heard the nearby conversation pick up to words of 'Lord' and 'Pantheon'. Were they speaking of the Creation god, Harmodius? The brunette turned his head distractedly, "Laurence, I think that hipster is looking for Harmodius as well."

She lifted a hand of recognition and thanks as she walked. A small wave that stopped when she got into the actual building and was staring at the biggest relief sculpture she'd ever laid eyes on.

WIth some redecoration, this place could make the most heinous concert hall, especially with some beast like that up on the wall.

Enekpe blinked owlishly after Laurence when he stepped away a little. He seemed unhappy. Had he lost someone, too? The pooka sighed, and conversation moved away from its focus on her. Which would have been okay, except now she was sad, and at times like that, being so small and on the ground felt rather lonely.

"Can someone pick me up?" she inquired. "My neck is tired." It wasn't, really, but it was a passable excuse.

James' use of the word 'hipster' was enough to earn him an exasperated glance for a moment, before the true value of what he was saying would sink in. She was going to see Lord Harmodius? "Lord Harmodius." He corrected automatically, then jerked his head after the woman's retreating back in the universal sign to follow.

Don't forget--

The priest stuttered to a stop, turning back to the man and pooka to kneel and gently scoop En up into his arms. "C'mon." The pooka would be tucked closer to his chest before he headed after the woman. Hopefully James caught the hint and would follow. A narrowed glance was spared for Phaedra before he'd politely shifted past her.

Laurence didn't feel much like addressing the strange youth, and instead lent his voice to the dragon. He was better at smooth talking, anyway.

"Excuse me, miss? Might you be in search of the Lord of this place? I'm not one to eavesdrop, but if our goals coincide, well... I am Shuo Huang Zhe."

It felt like an appropriate time to bow, but the priest stubbornly kept himself upright, letting his eyes wander with a bit of awe over the sculpture before them, only shifting to make sure En was comfortable in his arms.

NinetailedNightmare
James was puzzled for a moment by the correction -what had he said?- but let it pass. Laurence was already beginning to walk, and just as James had turned to acquiesce the pooka's plea, the priest swept in and saved the day. He was the taller of the males, and the more familiar, so it was just as well. James, secretly, may have liked to touch her fur, though.

As he passed Greed, the mousey little brunette man nodded politely, giving her a soft "Good day." before he hurried after Laurence and Shuo, the latter of which seemed to be in control now.

"And I'm James," He would pip up after the dragon had introduced himself, coming to stand somewhere behind and off to the side of Laurence. They both seemed to be captured by the relief on the wall, which James had studied some time ago. He didn't spare it too long of a look.

"Well then, gents, its good to meet you." Sho and Jimbo, the tweed team from the kingdom of stick-up-butt.
"Aren't you a little...white for a name like that?"

Maybe he was raised on the fly by interstellar monks and taught the intimate secrets of wuuwongfu or such.

They provided enough distraction from the layout of the place that she started up the stairs again. The door and walls at the top were total celtic revival, a whole lot gag. Maybe it could liven up with a deathDruid motif.

"Knock Knock, and I'll huff and I'll Puff and I'll blow your house in." She kicked the door, stacatto thuds, leaving black smudges from the soles of her boots.

Hooray, it had worked! She had had her doubts for a second there, but Laurence came through and scooped her up. Being picked up in and of itself was always sort of fun, like a little ride, although the best part was just being close to someone. The still-damp pooka snuggled close, her short tail wagging happily as her sadness evaporated.

She peered curiously at the colorful woman they went to meet, glad to have a good view from being carried. This was so much nicer than staring up at people all the time!

"And I'm En!" she added cheerfully to the men's introductions, though the lady had already begun to continue on.

Yu had been curled, half dozing at his Lord's feet when the racket began. His eyes slowly opened only to narrow in the direction of the sound; a low growl began deep in his chest and rumbled up through his throat much the way any dog would respond to an unwarranted, impatient 'guest'.

Slowly he uncoiled himself from the base of Creation's throne, looking to Him with an annoyed expression on his bestial face. "Company..." He pricked an ear towards the doorway again, "Female and impatient." Up on two legs instead of four, Yu would stalk to the door and open it with something of a snarl - unless his master called for him to heel. Of course, Xia Lu Ling would not turn anyone (that wasn't a Grigori) from His door...but he certainly could give them a little pause - maybe impatient wenches would learn to be a little less...abrasive, coming face-to-face with a Monster.

Glyph had descended from the level the gods' room were located with a ceramic bowl full of blackberries and a leafy companion about his shoulders when he heard the thunk of booted feet against the door. Furry ears perked forward then as he paused at the corner to peer at the group that had gathered, their voices drawing his gaze first one way then the other. "Mn?" He blinked, wondering if he'd missed some sort of summons in his preparations to go out for a stroll around the gardens.

The mimic reached out then and snatched the blackberry from his fingers with a mischievous chirp and he frowned at the creature, "Hey." Holding the bowl a little further away to keep the ivy lizard from snatching more, Forest padded towards the group.

As he drew near, the god noticed the woman kicking and frowned. She must be new to the area then... or just exceedingly rude. Coming up behind behind the others, he offered a wave of greeting then popped another berry into his mouth. "Is something the matter?" Interest was plain upon his features and his ears pricked eagerly forward.

A little white. Irritation throbbed in the back of his mind, low and seething, but he bit his tongue even as the woman began to climb the stairs again.

”My host’s name is Laurence—“ The dragon continued patiently until her heels smacked into the door, marring the beautiful surface. There was no hope of even pretending he could calm Laurence now, and the priest would turn to, as gently as he could, push En into James’ arms before he stalked forward, not about to grab the woman, but definitely crossing the lines of personal space.

“You have hands, knock with them.” He told her frankly, not about to stand for desecration. “Keep it up, and—“ And whatever he’d been about to say would never be known, as the door opened. God wasn’t there, probably his polar opposite, really, and Laurence found himself craning his neck back to meet the multiple eyes of a horned, fanged beast that certainly met the description of a demon.

He sensed nothing but threw his arm out anyway, not caring if he caught Hjava in the gut, just wanting to get the woman behind him even as he stepped forward to face the beast, openly bristling. One swipe of those hands would probably knock the wind out of him, but if he could get a prayer off, boost his strength and speed—There was really no time for words as he started to react, ignoring the words of Shuo echoing through his mind.

Laurence, he's not an enemy--!

"I also have other body parts I know how to use. Can you say the same?"

But the door was open and the biggest furry in the universe was on the other side. It didn't actually look like a fur-suit. It made noises like the real deal.
But then she was getting ushered around like a damsel and really she wanted to kick the guy in the nuts for discourtesy. It'd be easy enough, from behind.

But if you had something snarling at you, it was usually better to be the guy in back then the dope in front.

"Is the Lord in, Handsome?" She mosh-yelled it over Sho's shoulder.

NinetailedNightmare
James' eyebrows shot up a bit as the female began to kick the magnificent work on the door. Now, there was absolutely no necessity for such a stunt in his mind. He didn't know how she treated her things where she was from, but she was just asking for trouble. When Laurence handed the pooka off to him, the brunette didn't spare a word of disapproval though he knew completely well what the man was going to do. His arms delicately pulled En to his chest, and while he wasn't as warm as Laurence he at least made an attempt to pet his fingers along the crest of her brow.

And then the doors opened, filled not with the face of beauty that he had come to find typical in this realm. It was a monstrosity. Though it was symmetrical, it was beastly and not at all what any of them had likely been expecting. The punkish girl had, indeed, summoned the Big Bad Wolf to the doorstep. James bristled automatically in defense as well, keeping Enekpe in one arm while his other moved for the stungun in his bag. But then, Laurence was throwing himself in, and the gaudy girl back. What did he think he was doing?

And the girl was shouting at the thing, prompting it to come along. James, who was behind her like any sensible beast that thought their hide worth keeping, gave her a stage-whisper. "It might be prudent to ask yourself if you're willing to take on the door-man to see him." He was about two seconds from running himself. But what about Laurence? And Shuo? If the thing seemed rabid, he'd have to do what he could.

Meepfur
..whuuuh. Suddenly, there was a really big, really ugly thing with lots of eyes at the door, and the next thing she knew, she was getting passed around! En tucked her face in James' arm, trusting that, somehow or another, she'd be protected. She hadn't gotten this far just to be eaten!

I don't think there's anything to be afraid of.

Click to show.As usual, Yu's monstrous appearance had the intended effect; the motley group before him - was that tiny thing...edible? - behaved just as many before them. Save for the girl - she looked like she wanted to spit nails at whomever it was that had stepped forward so gallantly.

Blue eyes narrowed at the person in front of him - a very familiar tingling came from this man! A Brother! Xia Lu Ling would have spoken directly to him in greeting, but...that woman was a harpy, shouting demands at his ears, never mind that the man-with-God was moving to do some...whatever. Presumably to save the "lady" from his claw and fang.

He cracked his great jaws open, skinning his lips back from sharp teeth a moment before answering any of those before him. "Cease your motions, you will not be harmed."

"He," Yu put great weight on that single syllable; intoning awe, reverence and also a sort of "you should know better than to be mocking, young lady" lilt to it. "Is in." Black furred body moved away from the door to gracefully (where monsters graceful?) allow entrance. "Come. All His children are welcome."

The housewife-gone-retro didn’t seem inclined to swagger around him to confront the beast herself, and though her words were loud enough to make him feel half-deaf. Yeah, he knew she was perfectly capable of using other body parts. Her mouth didn’t count though, and had he not been focused on the behemoth before them, he’d have snorted as much.

Black lips had peeled themselves back, though the priest had seen too much teeth in his lifetime to flinch. Laurence, I believe he is a Dragon King. Shuo sounded oddly pleased, delighted to have found another of his brothers, and in such magnificent form!

It was enough to make the dark-haired man pause, wary, uncertain, but trusting the dragon’s words. Then, the goliath spoke of Him, and his shoulders tensed again as the black body slid back smoothly to allow them entrance. Wary, but silent now, Laurence would glance back, ignoring Hjava to search for James and En. Still there, still in one piece. He moved, satisfied, and unconsciously found himself starting to tremble. One hand clamped over the gem underneath his coat, feeling the cotton of his shirt framing the cool metal.

Was He here? Truly? Wordless reassurance pulsed through his mind, and he felt Mang attempting to relieve some of his resurfacing anxiety. He straightened his shoulders in turn, took a silent breath, and searched the room as he moved deeper into the interior.

SkieBorne
Glyph had hung back as the door open and the flurry of movement followed, the dark-clad man putting himself between the pale-haired woman and the rest of the group. None of them had familiar faces and they had all reacted strongly enough to Yu that he wouldn't be surprised if it was the first time they'd met the dragon king. It amused him, really. Yu was intimidating, yes, but he wasn't that bad!

Drawing nearer, he slipped around to the outer side of the group, "I don't think he's going to eat you." Glyph remark with a smile, nodding a greeting to those nearby, wondering if they'd notice him this time - he was short, and soft spoken, but it was hard to miss the horn and fuzzy ears and hallmark twigs. The mimic about his shoulder took the opportunity to pinch another blackberry or two and chirped at the strangers. "Hello Yu. I was going out to the gardens when I saw you lot. Is something the matter?" If he could help, he would but as of yet he was in the dark about this group.

NinetailedNightmare
And the thing could speak to them. James swallowed a little thickly looking over Laurence's shoulder at the furry behemoth, his anxiety slowly but surely slipping into wonder. What kind of creature was this? So many horns it bore in so many different styles must make for a heavy head but it sure was impressive. Feeling the minute tremble of the pooka on his arm, he reached to run a soothing hand down her spine, scritching very lightly at the fur in an attempt towards comfort. They were going to be alright! And, it seemed, the Creation deity was here in the throne. Most fortunate, seeing as he and Laurence had been prepared to scour every corner of the wide gardens looking for him!

Somewhere behind, another approached them. He also bore a horn, but a single one in the center of his head, ears tufted. He almost seemed to wear a crown of sticks in his hair. "We're alright," He said kindly to the man, not yet aware he was speaking to Forest himself, "Thank you."

But he could not linger- Laurence had started forward into the room. Impatient man! But it gave him an excuse to move. As he meekly slipped by Yu, he gave the Dragon King a soft 'thank you' and pointedly did what he could to hide the fuzzy En against him, as if sensing the creature's intention. To Harmodius, then. Would that loud-mouthed girl follow them?

These creeps jumped at everything, and sure enough, here was no need to worry. The doorman was probably also the bouncer, so keep on the better side of the establishment and it'd be cool. The inside that was revealed by the hulking furbag stepping out of the way was a greenhouse on the greatest LSD trip known to mankind. She didn't even know what a fraction of the plants were. Another gawker crashed the party, sure enough, adding sugar smiles that Fay had warned her about. Wasn't everyone just so damned nosey and helpful here!
She had business to attend that didn't involve the greenhouse tour. She side stepped around Sho, Jimbo, and Twiggy and strode in with a nod a the wall-of-fur. Being at the back of this line was a nuisance.

"Won't be a minute. Lord of the Realm, right? Well, I know how knights and vassals work, gotta present and get permissions to pass the grounds. " She walked as she talked, not patient enough to carry on a conversation with Slaver and remain in the company of her taggers-on. Not like she'd invited them anyway.

Creation sat throned in living, writhing mana, less like to mortal seeming in stature then normal. The plants nearby had ceased to be single entities, wyld forms infused and sentient which moved to fence newcomers some ten feet from the base of the strange seat.

Words came down in majesty, not the tongue of men or beasts, not tongued at all for his lips did not move when it sounded.
" You'll find I'm less of an absolute monarch then that, Hjava."

Meepfur
...it wasn't going to eat them? When it seemed safe, En peeked out to get a better look at the much larger creature. Was it another god? 'Yu' seemed to ring a bell with Kikechum, at least a little bit. And there was Harmodius again! She certainly hadn't been expecting to visit him today, not that she minded. She was pretty much just along for the ride, as it were.

And oh! That new man had twigs in his hair, and a funny little ivy-covered thing! The pooka turned in James' arms to peer at it.

Click to show.Glyph moved past the Dragon-host man and the other male holding the tiny, delicious-looking Pooka and greeted him; he dipped his head and rumbled out a greeting in kind to Forest. "No, nothing wrong, these people...wished to see Creation." Bodies moved warily past the fur-covered sentry to approach Him; once all were through, Yu closed the door and slipped back to coil his hulking form about the throne again.

Creation address Hjava, Yu closed two sets of his eyes and waited. The mortals were kept away from Him, but the wyld things let him be; Yu belonged at Creation's feet.

Yu-- He caught the name, understood its significance, and turned his head to take in the newcomer, was rewarded with a glimpse of twigs and something like a horn, and long, furry ears--

--but none of it mattered.

He sensed Him before he saw Him, felt ripples of peace settle across his conscious, and the priest sighed before he could help it. Greenery was everywhere, life was everywhere, and though he couldn't even begin to understand the throne that He was seated upon, Laurence didn't look long enough to truly puzzle it out. Pale skin, a flash of bright, brilliant hair, and what looked like a sanguine stain of a tear tracing down one cheek...

Overcome, the man had sank to his knees, bowing his head slightly and trying to keep his shoulders still so they wouldn't shake with joy, with sorrow, with disgust at himself, even being here, in His presence. Likewise, he could feel Shuo aching, burning, needing to lay at his Lord, his Master's feet, to be in his services again, to beg for forgiveness.

The sound of fur sliding against surfaces made him look up, startled only briefly, but it was just... what had Shuo said, Yu Five Claws, coiling about the throne as though to support and protect it.

Let the woman talk all she wanted. Both dragon and host could only look on, their pain both terrible and beautiful as they were finally able to gaze upon their Lord.

SkieBorne
"Oh." Glyph responded with a nod, having surmised as much in the sort interval between outside and inside this door.

The mimic felt the gaze of another on it and turned to peer back at the pooka, it's nose twitching and long tail flicking with interest. Idly, Glyph held out an arm so the leafy lizard could get a closer look as his gaze swept from the woman with the attitude to Creation himself. Forest dipped a bow of greeting then but started forward to go investigate the plants that ringed the throne with great curiosity.

He hadn't meant to get involved in anything in particular but these interesting little plant-creature intrigued him and that made this worth while. Crouching at their perimeter, he let the mimic slide down to the ground and go back to investigate the pooka while he offered fingers to the plants and hoped they weren't carnivorous. "Good day my Lord. You keep interesting company today!" Might as well say hello to Creation and his entourage, he hadn't dropped in for some time - was too preoccupied with his own projects in a nearby forest.

NinetailedNightmare
Creation's quarters were (aptly, James thought) covered in lush spires of vines and more types of flora than he could count. It was indeed more of a greenhouse than what you'd expect of a throne room. The plants were the tapestries, the drapery, the carpet. James half-expected the hum of bees or the sight of some sort of critters to peek out at them from the thick collection of plants, but he did not look for them. Naturally, his eyes were drawn up and up, to the pale figure that sat upon the formidable structure of the throne. Lord Harmodius, wasn't it? His breath drew short, never having laid eyes on a being more radiant and now having a picture to which all else would fall short in the future. He was a being of scientific intrigue, but for a moment, he found his thoughts fumbling. And yet, he was calm.

Nearby, Laurence sank to his knees. James sensed the motion more than he saw it, his eyes still attracted to the various colors that composed the deity's hair and the aura that seemed to surround him. Of course, his first thought toward the mana was radiation, and perhaps it was, but there was no going back now. He didn't want to. He did fumble a moment before he too, more awkwardly, slid down to a kneel near the priest, figuring in this situation Shuo and Laurence were going to be his model for courtesy. His arms uncurled and Enekpe was delicately placed down upon the thick carpet of clover-like structures, allowed to move off after the ivy dragon as she wished. He, in the meantime, honed in on the conversation that went on between Hjava and the Lord Harmodius, bowing his head enough as if that would truly cause him to become invisible to all. He was a normal-looking man thing and knew there was just as much value in going unnoticed as there was having the attention of another. He was serenely patient. In this time, he took to exploring everything in the room with his eyes, having to tear them away from the Twin Crown with some effort. Undoubtedly, he was exquisite, but he was also stationary and the alien did not need his eyes to listen.

The fuzzy-eared, horned man spoke to Harmodius as if he were a friend, he noticed, and secretly awaited for a response to build a further judgement upon just what sort of a god Creation was.

Trouble no others, and no judgment will be brought on you. This is the dwelling land of the Gods. Heed the advice that they are perilous, wise and wicked both. If you seek guidance, Aris can answer questions for you. "

"Will you guide her? Of similar cloth you are both cut. Mankind's finest gather to start the journeys anew to far kingdoms under the eyes of the gods. "

A man stepped forward, untroubled by the plants, from a side archway of pallid roses. "Hjava, follow me."

She was irreverent, brassy and brazen - but even she was struck dumb by Creation's splendor; her sharp tongue stilled...those toxic green eyes wide with awe. The Dragon King shook his head a bit and turned to watch Aris coming forth.

"Our Lord has managed to still her sharp tongue, Aris, but beware. It may not last long." He chuckled a bit and then fell quiet; a little part of him wanted to follow Aris and Hjava - the woman was quite an oddity and it piqued his interest...but a deeper, bigger part was most content at Creation's feet.

Plus, sticking around meant he could see what the others wanted. Maybe eat one of them. Maybe.

Glyph looked up when Hjava stuttered and stumbled about her words, mildly amused by the awe that Creation's presence had struck into the visitors. He was majesty and life to look at and for Glyph, at least, it was a pleasure to do so - a reminded of hope and renewal. It seemed she was being welcomed into the fold and so he offered a smile of welcome as Aris stepped forth to guide and answer the mortal's questions.

She probably had a few... once the stun wore off. People normally had a great many questions after spending a little while in the Pantheon.

Glyph caught Yu eyeing his lizard and in turn moved to intercept that gaze with a frown, "He's not edible. I have some berries if you want those instead." Indeed, this small bowl was still mostly full and he arched a brow as he proffered the snack, "Nor are any other of my mimic lizards, thanks."

For his part, the ivy lizard skittered over to where Enekpe was and stopped just far enough that it could extend its neck and sniff at the curious creature without getting too close. A moment later it chirped curiously, cocking its head to the side. Something was different about this one... it took a step closer and chirped again, flicking its leafy tail.

Tsunake
The priest was attempting to keep his breath slow and steady, the sound of Hjava’s voice slowly filtering in through the blood roaring in his ears. From the sound of it, she was dazed now, and he was too overwhelmed to even feel the slightest bit of satisfaction. None of that mattered anymore—nothing but Him.

Amber eyes flickered to the mortal that He called forth, watched him beckon to the woman as though to lead her away.

It was the young mortal that captured his attention, and Mang felt a horrible twisting of guilt that he could not quite place. It felt somehow familiar, a scene like this, but there was that name again, just on the tip of his tongue. Aristo...? He had failed his Lord, he knew it--and that failure extended far beyond being given this second chance.

Jarred out of his slight stupor by the dragon’s puzzled tone, Laurence refocused on Lord Creation, wanting so badly to say something to Him, to confess his weaknesses, but words still wouldn't come. And somehow, that was all right.

It was enough to merely gaze upon Him for now.

NinetailedNightmare
His eyes drew back to the conversation at hand when he heard the female stumble for words to say. She'd been quite the bigmouth up until now, even daring to snap back at a creature who could probably snap her when she swaggered right on past him. She had the gall to kick the door of not just a god, but supposedly that of the God. And now that she was before him, he had but to speak her name and she quelled. James didn't see her tremble, but there were tears in her throat. Something in him softened a little, satisfied but in some ways confused by her change in demeanor. Was it her nerves finally caving in on her? Or had she truly been stunned by the visage the deity presented, the aura that seemed to exude from him from on high.

The first Harmodius seemed to tell the girl was that she could cut the tough-girl act, not quite threatening to 'judge' her if she continued to act out. He hailed a man he had not noticed from nearby to help her further, which seemed a dismissal of sorts to him. But what did he mean, similar cloth? Both human? Surely not related. What stuck with him the most, though, was Creation's statement about the gods- perilous, wise and wicked both. This was not the standard of most Earth religions, who held their gods as perfect and above all human fault. If these gods could be wicked, then... the closest he could equate them to would be the theology of the Greeks, the Romans, or the Africans. There were other religions he had heard of that would fit the category as well, but they were not of Earth and this place seemed to be so very similar to that planet that he did not dwell on it for long.

Green eyes slid to their corners to observe Laurence, quite obviously stunned and reverent. He looked like he wanted something, but was too polite to say yet. Creation seemed, at the moment, very formal to James. He had ignored the words of the twig-bearing man, though he wasn't certain if that was because he was trying to address someone else at the moment. Get the upstart out of the way, as it were. Perhaps the twig-man simply was not worthy of attention, but when he looked over to him, the aforementioned humanoid did not seem offended. Perhaps he was used to it, or afraid to. Where he came from, his lords were tyrants. They would ignore or praise as they pleased, offering no respect to anyone but themselves. Even the leader they had assigned to represent his race was a toy. One moment they could dote on it, bolster it, and in the next just toss it aside in a fit of impatience. The Tzech, unlike the Esarians, could be moody. In a way, they were gods with how much they had accomplished. Everyone handled power individually, and it seemed to him that if these were indeed gods, they were power. What had that Yu creature said? That Harmodius welcomed all of the ones he created? But how did he welcome them? Certainly not equally, if the hierarchy of species and the distance between this world and the next was any indication.

As Hjava was ushered off, he lowered his gaze again to his hands. What would happen now?

" So it must be, unfortunate but true, that in this untimely hour I must turn away my children whose eyes and minds should not be profaned by too raw a sight or sound. Here in this sanctum I am less bound. So it is, fair sons reborn of scales covering second flesh.....you come unto me new again and hale. "

"And in good company of strangers who study of our names and ways and would not in truth be whole unmanned by sight of Us. "

Creation stood from the striving mana flows and laid his hand down and out to Yu, palm up in beckoning, " Pillar, it is by my side I must entreat, that I can stand as even my strength flows in this time outward to the many. "

"Welcome, Glyph, and good morrow to you as well. My company is ever strange and wondrous, but no complaint will you find on my part. And you, sirs, kneel so and do not speak. Speak, else I will have no knowing how better to attend you then to hobble as I might to find you softer surface for your joints."

Click to show.Though the Dragon was watching the two small-potential (but not really) food-sources in the room, he was finely tuned to Creation and the mana coming off him. "Always, Lord." When He called for Yu, he moved, swiftly, to His side. Support called, support given in the guise of a thick, furry head rubbed against the beckoning hand and a solid form that would serve it's purpose beautifully.

The raw mana zinged about the Dragon King and made his fur crackle in a pleasant but distracting manner so that one set of his eyes slowly narrow closed - the other set first turned up to gaze at Creation, then down again to Glyph and the other, kneeling hosts. Yu smiled, fangs bared in a non-threatening way. See? Good doggie.

"Nor will you find complaint in me." Glyph replied to Harmodius with smile, "I think I shall visit more often. My travels take me beyond the Pantheon often of late... the walls can be too confining even in these airy halls. I prefer the wilds, but I think perhaps I should return more frequently. Apologies." He nodded his head, though his tone spoke of an earnest interest to visit Harmodius more, especially if he kept such delightful plant creatures as company - anything of that sphere intrigued the god - and he would not deny that being near such raw, creative essence improved his mood and energies greatly.

Turning from them, then, he looked to the newcomers and bowed slightly, "Welcome! I suppose I should introduce myself. I am Glyph. Forest. I pale in comparison to Lord Harmodius but I have food and shelter to offer if you need it. Leave word with my aoidei behind the door with the golden wood on it." He ran a hand through his hair then, "Just, ah, not the single tree. That's right beside mine and belongs to Xun and I don't speak on his behalf." Another smile then as he met their gazes, "Pleasure to meet you!"

A silence had filtered through the gentle atmosphere of the greenhouse, if it could even be called as much, but Harmodius soon broke the silence. Laurence hung onto every word without realizing it, struggling to understand, to comprehend. Less bound? Was that the reason He had sent Hjava away—as a sort of protection to herself? And fair sons reborn of scales—was He referring to Shuo? And studying strangers could have easily been James.

He called for Yu then, spoke something about His strength, and man and dragon observed with varying degrees of awe as the black behemoth complied and his sleek fur seemed to crackle just from being so close to Him.

Words still failed him as his eyes flickered to the one called Glyph, and Laurence immediately remembered being told about him. The Forest god, just as Illisia had said. He knew his judgment was too clouded to tell whether or not the other was sincere, but he trusted the elfin woman, and would silently bow his head to the Forest. Later, perhaps, when he was a little more focused, and a little less overwhelmed. If he was right next to Xun and Illisia’s door, then it would be a simple, effortless thing to find and meet up with him.

Sensing Laurence could not yet speak, Shuo would lend his voice, and the deep, sonorous tone did not hide the joy he felt. “My Lord.” The dragon breathed, and Laurence tilted his head down a little further, as though to hide both of their shame. “I have come before You to announce my return, to lay myself at Your feet. I am Shuo Huang Zhe, now, Mang. I do not... remember, my Lord, but I feel—I know that I have failed You, in more ways than one.”

“I wanted to beg Your forgiveness.” The priest suddenly rasped, his voice rough with emotion. “For being weak. I never doubted You, Lord, but I couldn’t—“ He broke off, hatefully staring at the floor for a moment until he could compose himself, speaking in more level, almost monotone notes. “I never lost my faith. ...I’ve taken your dragon, and I’ll help him, but only for You. I’ll prove myself to You, again.”

NinetailedNightmare
Unbeknownst to Shuo and the others who had gathered in the presence of Creation, Harmodius' first words seemed to eerily reflect some of James' own thoughts. The Esarian blinked with mild surprise, trying to decide whether or not it was truly just a coincidence. It sounded like it could be a statement that simply went with the departure of Hjava, and very well may be as simple as that. Was it possible that a god could read his mind? Yes, he decided, it was not impossible to decipher a mind if one had the proper abilities or equipment. He had known of a species who read the brain waves of one another to communicate. He had a brain, ergo it was possible that Harmodius could read it. Was it likely...? No, not really. Who would want to bother reading his brain? But then, he did mention something about a stranger studying them, and if that wasn't James, he didn't know whom Harmodius was referring to. Just how much did Harmodius know, he wondered, how boundless was his knowledge and how did he come by it? Had he been told of them or, more strange yet, had he been expecting them? Did Creation's power go so far as to shape every part of their existence? It seemed improbable. Was he like the Christian's God, where he was all-knowing and all-powerful? Or was he merely limited to his title, just creating something and letting it go free from there? James wasn't sure and almost wished he could have more distinct proof for either way. But then, all gods he'd ever read about disdained showing their powers upon request. Oh, they would use them to prove a point more than once, but never when specifically challenged.

The god went on to address them all in turn, first Forest, who introduced himself as Glyph. James dipped his head in acknowledgement to the leafy god, mulling over what he divulged to Harmodius. If Glyph traveled a lot, perhaps he could be of some assistance to someone who had travel considered as an option, as well as the intrigue to get started on some sort of geographical map. Perhaps Glyph could also tell him what he knew about certain flora and fauna before James got around to going out there himself. It was something to consider later, so he tucked the god's room location into the depths of his mind and made a note to bother him some time when he was free.

The Yu-creature slunk over to Harmodius in haste, bypassing the plants that had once made to block their passage. Pillar, he called him, and the canine-like creature put his head obediently in the pale hand. So gods could be like furniture to one another? Or just to Harmodius. Interesting. It suggested a hierarchy of gods, then, aside from just Harmodius and the other gods. He'd have to ask someone later.

James perked a little as Harmodius addressed them, his lips drawing thin with wan amusement at the god's statements. Hobble indeed. For them? Perhaps for Shuo, who would mean something to Harmodius as a Dragon King, but not for him. To back the thought up, Shuo and Laurence began to explain their situation to Harmodius and their concerns. It was something he hadn't been told, and something he tried quite hard to keep his curiosity from now.

"Assuredly, Lord Creation, the shape of my joints and my reason for coming here are not so pressing. Suffice to say, my name here is James and I'd rather see Sir Shuo and Laurence taken care of first. Should it suit you, of course." He said carefully, keeping his tone level and demure even as he offered a slight, humble smile.

This was about the time that Laurence felt himself growing woozy. He felt strange--like the words of the other's were swirling around him. He hit the ground, but he never even felt it.

Hold Please, My Sanity's Gone
Solo #12
500+ words

Laurence suddenly, keenly understood what stage fright felt like. He had uttered his sins, humbly requested His forgiveness, and then, promptly, froze. James had been talking, but the words sounded muffled, almost hazy. The blood was roaring in his ears, and suddenly the priest had to get out. It felt like the walls were closing in on him. Without another word, he jerkily got to his feet, shoving past the gathered gods and mortals so he could be outside the Pantheon once more, gulping down fresh air. He could feel the dragon stirring with alarm in his head, but he had managed to tune out most of Shuo’s words until now.

—aurence? Laurence, what’s the matter? What— Laurence slammed figurative door of their connection shut, felt Shuo recoil with surprise, and didn’t even feel a shred of guilt. Not right now. He thought he was going to be sick. When Shuo struggled further to sink to him, he tightened his hold, unknowingly burying the dragon even deeper into his subconscious in an attempt to silence him. He couldn’t stop pacing, resisting the urge to lash out at the beautiful, brightly colored bushes. Some bore roses. Others, fruits. Laurence couldn’t appreciate the care that He must have put into them, not when he was this agitated. He should have never have come here, not after what he’d done. He was a murderer. A cannibal. Perhaps even worse. He didn’t want to think about it.

He couldn’t even return to Illisia and Xun Jiang’s room after shaming himself so. No, they’d ask questions, and he’d be compelled to answer them, even if the very thought made bile crawl up in the back of his throat. One of the tea houses would have to suffice. After kicking the door open on one, making sure that it was unoccupied, he slid to his knees on one of the… cushions, or whatever they were, on the ground. Shuo hadn’t tried speaking again. Maybe he couldn’t. Laurence didn’t know, and didn’t care. Feeling drained, he somehow eventually found himself sprawled out on the floor, staring soundlessly at the door as though expecting someone to barge in and bodily rip the gem from him at any moment. It never happened, though. His breathing slowly but surely evened out, and it wouldn’t be too long until the priest finally drifted off to sleep. He hadn’t been getting enough of it lately, and it was inevitable that, eventually, he’d be forced to succumb to the sweet melody of slumber. His dreams were vivid, more vivid than he could ever remember them being, filled with sound and sensation that was almost unreal.

These were not normal dreams, of course. Mang’s influence was spreading throughout his body, perhaps triggered by Laurence’s own actions. One could not clearly say if that was the case, but, regardless, the Dragon King was growing stronger. Together, they dreamed, wrapped up in the past, in a body that neither of them could truly say they remembered. Not completely.

Serpent Dreams
Solo #13
517 words

They awoke in darkness. It was a familiar darkness, however, one that was warm and comforting. They had slept for far too long, shaking themselves with a rumble that echoed off of the cavern walls. It was as though boulders were gingerly grinding themselves together. They lifted themselves up onto all fours, the whisper of scales and an impossibly long tail brushing sweeping the floor soon following. Their steps were careful, calculated even as they made their way into the sun.

Happiness swelled within their ribs, and they could not suppress a hum of pleasure at the warmth that soaked straight into their bones. Their life was by no means a simple one, but how could they not enjoy His gifts? They needed to go to Him, to make sure he was well, and then… well, they couldn’t remember, but it would come to them.

Their powerful legs tensed for a moment until they pushed off, rippling from side to side as gracefully as a serpent. It was always a rush, being able to dart through the clouds without a care in the world, soaring, twisting and writhing about like they were possessed. Instinctively, they knew where He would be, jaws open wide and claws flexing happily even as a roar boomed from deep in their throat to echo across the land below. Mortals would hear and knew it was a sign of happiness—or would offer prayers to Him to keep them safe. Either would make them happy.

The wind caught them, pushed them upward as the soared, and that was when things all went to Hell. Pain lanced through their body, ripping through scales and flesh until even their howls were separated into two. They fell then, a flailing man and a half-formed beast, writhing through the clouds even as they plummeted to their death. Not strong enough, not yet—

--Laurence awoke with a start seconds before they hit the ground, choking on air. A quick glance reaffirmed that he was still in the tea house, and with a muted growl, he rubbed at his eyes.

Did we fall? The words rippled faintly through the priest’s head, vague and uncertain. When pressed, however, Shuo offered nothing, leaving Laurence alone with nothing but silence ringing through his head. Had they had the same dream? Was it even a dream? It had to be—a rueful glance down at himself assured him that he was still fully dressed and definitely not dead. A fall from that height would have killed anyone.

Shaking it off like the nightmare it had to be, the man got to his feet and pulled open the door to the tea house. Looked like it was back to pacing, for him. Still, he couldn’t fully put his heart into it, his mind constantly wandering back to the vividness of the dream. Did that mean his time was coming to an end? Was Shuo going to take over soon? There were no answers for his questions, and eventually, the priest would turn and make his way back to the inside of the Pantheon.

Round Two
Meeting again with Harmodius

He'd felt marginally better about the whole catastrophe after a good night's sleep, and had seized the opportunity before it had the chance to slip through his fingers. It wasn't confidence that drove him, per say, but a grim sense of purpose of finally seeing this thing through to the end.

James had been first on the priority, and though it had taken some time, he'd tracked down the scrawny, bookish man, and however gruff his apology might have been, there was no doubting its sincerity. He hadn't meant to screw James out of his opportunity to meet with God, and after informing the other that he was off to attempt to meet him once more, well. James had been quick to come along.

Poor b*****d probably didn't have much else to do with his time besides ogling partially reborn deities.

The gardens. There was a wistfulness to the dragon's tone that made Laurence feel like he wasn't exactly paying attention, instead trying to remember something that would perpetually slip out of his grasp. I remember... No. Start in the gardens this time. Shuo corrected himself almost sternly, biting off his last sentence as though to enforce its decisiveness. An amber eye rolled to fix upon the seemingly meek man who they'd collected on their way over.

There was no retreating this time. It would be easier, perhaps, with just one other

"...I need to say a few things to Him, first." Laurence was almost docile with his words this time, distant as he focused on the task at hand. "I'd prefer if you'd let me, but." But the man had his own questions too, and had no reason to wait. Irritably, his fingers rubbed at his temples for a moment, and Laurence took a left into the lush gardens. "Shuo'll introduce you."

His eyes were peeled for any sign of the rainbow-hued deity, and that sensation of blissful calm was something he ached for. Running away once had shamed him to the core; this time, he intended to confess his sins and beg for forgiveness even if it killed him. What was the worst that could happen?

...Well, Laurence didn't exactly want to think about that.

NinetailedNightmare
The meeting had been far more brief than he would have willed it, but in the face of Harmodius, alone, James had quelled. He was sorry for it afterward, especially since his original company had left him by himself after only a curt word preceding his disappearance. Made to adapt and take a situation in stride, James had retired to his shared quarters with Arden to record his observations. Perhaps, in time, he would work up the gall to make his way inside once more. Creation was timeless.

Happily, he had bumped into Laurence the very next day during his morning round of the Pantheon. An apology was more than he honestly expected from the baleful young man, and truly it was not very necessary, but he took it in bemused silence. It was well enough that the other wished to make a second effort at gaining an audience with the lord of the land; just the excuse James was looking for. As they walked along, though, the Esarian could not help but wonder just what had happened the last time. Laurence had been upset, no, distraught, and the fear (whatever that may be) had driven him far from the sight of the Creator. For a man of Faith, it didn't seem to make sense to James. Well, alright, there was one theory. Shame was a curious concept, right along with sin. Sensing judgement and the hand of an angry god seemed the only answer that would fit, in his mind, to make someone flee so. Someone simply in awe, or someone considering themselves not worthy would justify more surrender than flight.

Laurence, or perhaps Shuo (he had to be methodical, for all he did like the Dragon King), had done something very, very bad.

"Certainly," Was all he said in response to the request of sorts. James did not have the penchant to be impatient, and aside from that it seemed to him as if Laurence needed this. While he wished to inquire many things, he wisely kept his mouth shut. It wasn't his business to ask anything of Laurence. Except, well, it was technically his business. Chances were that everything would be revealed soon, though, so he simply walked beside the man like they'd been friends for years, eyes continually roaming behind the facade of his glasses.

Creation lay at ease, for all appearances anyway, a perfected form languidly stretched out on his back with one white limb curving up over his head on a fan of shifting chroma hair, one knee bent and raised. A few creatures cavorted around him, chattering endless nonsense down at their lord, or busily arranging and straightening out the fan of his hair on the hillock where he lay.

Harmodius, untroubled by either activity, let them do as the please. His eyes looked up at the empty dark.

Tsunake
The silence was appreciated, though Laurence couldn't help but feel as though he'd frightened James into keeping his tongue permanently glued to his mouth. Though Shuo said not a word, he could almost sense the dragon's 'I told you so' just waiting to burst out. Thankfully, a distraction arrived in the shape of a pale, sprawled figure, and the priest nearly tripped over his feet. A hand instinctively flung itself upward, perhaps to stop James, but it dropped as soon as he realized what he was doing.

He looked quite at peace, and practically had a circus of animals fawning over him for one reason or another. Laurence was half tempted to turn around right then and there, but he only gritted his teeth and began a cautious, but determined approach.

"...Lord Harmodius?" At least it wasn't a croak, but he sounded hoarser than he wanted. "...D... D'you have a minute?"

NinetailedNightmare
The alien recognized the sound of bestial chatter before he realized the presence of a deity. Laurence's forearm connected with the smaller man's chest, but it was a small bump, a gesture that awarded him nothing more than a curious glance. James' lips twitched at their corners, as if amused. Just what did Laurence think he was planning to do? Indeed, if Harmodius were the all-knowing god that his associate believed him to be, how could it be possible for the two of them to disturb him? Perhaps Laurence just didn't trust James to keep his promise and let him have the first word.

When the priest's arm disappeared, the brunette ignored it. He stayed right where he was, and was content to be there - if it put his acquaintance more at ease, he saw no problem with doing so. Despite the low lights in the barren sky, his perception of the situation was adequate enough.

Ahead, the alabaster god sprawled at ease among the flora and did not seem to mind the local fauna that played within the prism of his mane. If nothing else, James could at least concede that Creation was aesthetically pleasing. Not quite like Laurence, who threw off symmetry with his tension. It was easy to perceive how nervous the Dragon's host was, and James had to wonder if this was part of that secret he knew Laurence was keeping or simply the correct response for mortals in the presence of the Maker. Should he comfort the other? Should he, too, quake before the lounging god? Within a moment he decided that neither would be effectual. Standing back, staying still, that was his job for the moment. Observe.

He quietly distracted himself by working on cataloguing the critters at play around Harmodius. The image capturing device in his bag was all to tempting, but even James could sense it might not be appropriate to use flash photography when meeting God.

His eyes slid from emptiness to nearer plane, and to the less critter-like visitors, staying a moment in silent appraisal.

"Yes, I do. I have many. Though I'm certain that whatever the case is, it will take more then one. It should be no trouble unless you are in a hurry, in which case I could move us to a place with longer years and therefore more minutes then this planet's days afford?"

He had seen these two before together, much the same way. Were they good friends? It would be fine news to hear of the Mediator finally being societal enough to make acquaintances. Or friends? One never knew what a dragon may see fit to collect, or call a hoard. They were wonderful, eclectic beasts. Ah, but this was the Priest still, was it not? The mortal frame that housed dragon instead of demon, as may be the otherwise expectation of a Hunter.

Tsunake
A place with longer--Laurence mentally shook himself to keep from staring openly at the seemingly casual statement, and he could hear Shuo rumbling with amusement underneath his thoughts. "No, I'm not in a hurry, but thank you."

The man hesitated for a moment, and the dragon in question was rattling about eagerly. If only he had his own body! He would not have hesitated to coil at His feet, ever loyal and adoring. The priest's oddly colored eyes swept back for a moment, scrutinizing James as though to make sure he wasn't overheard before he slowly sank to his knees.

"...First and foremost, I'm here to ask for Your forgiveness." He spoke lowly, head bowed and eyes fixed on the ground. "...I have sinned. I was too weak to properly protect myself... and people died because of it." Laurence's tone was flat, and his face was expressionless. If I may. It was a gentle request, and the priest wordlessly relinquished control.

""My Lord," The dragon nearly purred, "It has been so long. Laurence has agreed to become my host in hopes of better serving You. And the mortal, James..." Clearly Shuo had no intention of leaving the young man out, regardless of Laurence's previous intentions. "He has come in search to learn more about the gods of old. Who better to introduce him to than You, my Lord?"

Laurence couldn't argue with that, and stayed quiet for now.

"Laurence's generosity is blessed/ That he find fit to bring glory and shine of scales forth again of his own flesh is marvel and immortality of praise. Of ease can be bought him of my doing, I gladly offer with both hands what could be asked."

The Eldest listened, nodded, "'James'? Well enough then, and gladly I would audience with those curious. You need not fear proximity, James, and may come close as your found friend. You may call me Harmodius, or a name of your own people should it yet be preserved of lore. "

"These about me are of no ill will to you, and so harmless. Please."
He offered a hand, palm up in peace, gesture that they should join him as they were willing.

NinetailedNightmare
Whether or not Laurence wanted it, James could hear the transpiring conversation. What he had of manners didn't stop him from absorbing the information presented and begin to synthesize it. So the priest was responsible for many deaths? Too weak to protect himself? It was a conundrum, but not one he dwelled on for long as his name inserted itself into the easy words of the Dragon King, to which he may have unconsciously straightened.

When Harmodius hailed him, the eyes he turned to the god were bright and curious. It was apparent enough that his hanging back was not for hesitancy or fear, but courtesy. Even as he made to step forward, his gaze quickly passed to Laurence and Shuo, making sure they were alright with the trade of attention. But unlike Laurence, James had no desire to be private about what he was about to say next. They were welcome to stay.

"Harmodius it is, sir. If you are what I've heard, an amalgamation of all creation gods, then I can think of a few monikers. However, I'm not inclined to any which one - my planet doesn't subscribe to the worship of deific figures. Up until now, we had no proof of an omnipotent god-figure." And still, James did not add, they did not. May not ever, if all of Esare was destroyed in the Gehenna. "At least, not ones which could be tested and measured against more than an interplanetary definition. I'm rambling, though.

I'm pleased to make your acquaintance, Harmodius. As Shuo says, I'd be interested in exploring and recording this planet's features and inhabitants, particularly your pantheon, because it seems like --correct me if I'm wrong-- it is largely what the world functions around."

Yes, he was chatty, and though his words were almost clinical, his delivery was actually very amiable. Something about Harmodius (likely James' decision that he would probably know anyway) had made him sincere, and it was refreshing.

"Anyone who calls themselves a researcher would be squandering their time if they didn't recognize the amount of knowledge that could be gained here. And to be honest with you, sir, I am not sure that there's anything left for me to do with myself."

If Esare was gone and there was no traveling there, there would be no one to report to, no reason to garner up the research aside from the simple desire to know. His lips smiled at Creation, but inwardly, he was worried, and he was... tired. The mere thought of having nothing else to do with his life would make him feel very listless indeed, should he dare to dwell on it. Right now, he didn't allow it. He was supposedly standing before Creation himself, something no perfect Esarian had ever done. This was a triumph.

Tsunake
Emotion flickered for a moment across Laurence's face. Was it really all so easy? What had he been hoping for--punishment? He'd inflicted enough on himself, as was Shuo's opinion, but somehow, he hardly felt relieved. There would be time to dwell and brood later. The priest held himself stiffly as He spoke to James next, and held his tongue.

He would not be selfish now. He had allowed his emotions to run rampant in the past, but he would not deny James this chance to speak to God and perhaps learn a little about the religion he did not believe in.

The Dragon King listened with open amusement to the man and his charming enthusiasm, once again enamored with the charisma that James so openly wielded. A splendid subject, truly. True, he clashed with types that did not see the world with such optimism as he, but if he merely tempered his approach--why, Shuo could see the mousy man as a wonderful speaker.

"'If your aim then be learning, you should know that as you stand here you are no longer standing on a single planet, then. The world most easily accessible from the grounds of the Pantheon no more is made to the support of the Pantheon then any other. This place exists on all worlds, the doors were merely tethered more tightly to one specific planet long ago. I dwelt upon it long, in guise of mortal flesh, and true mortals found it easier to understand spatially in that manner."

"All worlds are leaves of Yggdrasil, the alter-body of Gaia the All-Mother. She is all Terra. If you wished to reach Esare, it would be through her passages, or with one of the older gods taking you there through use of the Doors. "

"The Keeper of Knowledge, Gianfar, is sadly missing, else he would have made you a fine companion for research and tutelage. As it is, his Library of Ages is being rebuilt by an effort of some who dwell here after the horrors of my other aspect. Still, what questions you will have of me I will gladly answer, or should you require....some proof for your research? I do not know how to prove what I am, for...I Am. And as so all have experienced so recently in the decay of my aspects to the older Origin and Gehenna, as once I was called. But you are welcome to suggest."

He paused a moment, seemingly distracted, and his attention wrested to Laurence again,
"You contemplate guilt and punishment, fair scale, but to what end?"

"For Mang....Aristogeiton's death and the failing of the Amulet of Consort were long ago and never solved. What fault there may have been fails against looming wonder....what did happen? I have not learned it, and expect no inquisition upon you for them. There is no anger in me for this. Your confusion and desperation to save him as much as my own spoke of your innocence. Only you hold trial, jury and judgment upon your past. "

"For Laurence..what guilt do you seek anger in me for? Punishment? Penance? For the murder of kin according with the beings you swore to purge? Forgiveness is extended in my palm. You already sacrifice all that you are to a worthy purpose, far more finite than word of oath. This to be glory and punishment both, and more. Can you not, will you not, see forgiveness for yourself by yourself?"

NinetailedNightmare
The small man's head canted at the first statement, forgetting so much as a knit of brows to make it clear he was thinking. This was not a concept he found unfamiliar, but it had never been what he and his found quantifiable. It didn't make Harmodius' statement less true, it just meant the means for exploring it were untouched by the technology the Tzech knew. That seemed hardly possible, but James certainly couldn't correct the god of Creation, could he?

"The tree Yggdrasil is an Earthling's old myth... I assume you're speaking literally when you say a body and leaves?" He hadn't said anything about Esare. To hear it on the other's lips made him focus again. There was a small quirk of lips to the mention of a return. "Perhaps, then. It is a knowledge that would shake our foundation, I'm certain."

If they would hear it. James was also fairly certain he had been sent to die on this planet.

"It would have, at the very least, made traveling more of a convenience." He huffed a soft laugh.

He agreed that Gianfar, Knowledge, was definitely an entity he would have been ecstatic to meet, and it was too bad he had disappeared. That would have been too lucky, wouldn't it? The Library of Ages, though... He would have to ask if he could have some sort of access to that.

When Shuo and Laurence were addressed, he fell silent, quietly watching the one body that housed them both sidelong. The message seemed to be the same for them both, ultimately. A glory and a punishment ... He wondered if Arden would be in agreement with such a term. Then again, his savior had not seemed so fortunate regarding his own bearing. Had it been Shuo, James was inclined to think the soldier might see things a little differently. At least a little.

A beat more, waiting for Laurence's reaction, before the Esarian returned his attention to Harmodius.

"Creation gods vary in lore and involvement, but core module doesn't. Whether they created things by ash, by fire, or humoral fluid, they produced life from nothing or inanimate objects. If I could see you make something of your own devising, that'd surely be enough for me."

There might have been a twinkle in those green eyes, perhaps a little hopeful.

Tsunake
The Pantheon existed everywhere else? That was a concept he had to struggle to take in--but then again, was it really so different from Heaven? The only difference was that this place rested on the mortal plane. The priest was rapt with attention as He explained how, impossibly, James could somehow reach his-- wait.

James... wasn't from Earth? Laurence twisted himself around to stare at the other, his gaze burning both question and accusation into his seemingly human flesh. They would have words, later. It all made sense now--his nosiness, his impossible naivety. He didn't like surprises, and this was one that was unexpected.

He could feel Shuo's concern at the mention of this Gianfar's absence, but the prospect of so much intellectual wealth open for all to plunder was also of great interest to the dragon. It felt almost greedy, but when pushed about it, Shuo immediately withdrew his thoughts as though ashamed.

When he was addressed unexpectedly, the man dipped his head, a mixture of embarrassment and respect once more. For a moment the pair was quiet, each wresting with their emotions in search of an answer worthy of His hearing. The silver-tongued Shuo was the first to gather his wits, and the priest soundlessly lent him his voice.

"I could not bring him back to You, my Lord. He was what You needed, and I failed--not only there, but with my first host, and I cost him his life," The deep, smooth voice was tempered with sorrow. "But no more. For You, I will focus on the future, and what this union will provide You once we are One."

Laurence was painfully aware of James' presence, but would not meet the man's eyes. "That's because You are kind. Too kind, but I expected nothing less." No, he hadn't been disappointed in the least--only satisfied. "...I'm afraid that by forgiving myself, I'll forget them, and what they gave their lives for." And did that make him weak?

Ivynian

He crossed the small distance and set a heavy hand to the dragon's shoulder.
"'What weakness is there in beautiful Mourning? In Human condition? Your only wrong is that time has come to turn pages, chapters of life over and new one beginning, and you delay...staying to earlier pages and refusing to turn to the new. What forgetting is there in world where walks Lament and Grief? The soft heart of Mother Gaea, who has borne all in turn? Or my own, where the start and end of every Fate resides?"

"Of hosts, the fault cannot be yours. Did thine own will prevail your scales to fall from your form afar, your power and life leeched invisible, and throat twisted to screams as I held each of you in turn? Nay. It is my own eagerness, having found some semblance of the frame, that doomed those poor souls to shore up what was a candle set to flame only half-formed from the hot wax...still bending and incomplete. You do not wear their badges...these unlucky fates. But theirs is lamentable, and your empathy is commendable. See it commemorated some day in your strength. "

Lifting his hand, he looked back to the scholar. Ash, fire, or humoral fluid? Interesting requirements, though unnecessary unless part of some desired design. He stretched out one hand, for the first, the palm turning black and cracks like lava running up the flesh to sear the perfect white "Then two in one, let ash that gather here be the body. Rise, Salamander, and speak in tongues of smoke. Your belly will be embers, and you will consume ....plants....to fuel your fire. A hard thing, so rare a meal excepting nearby, but there is only one of you. "

The serpent uncoiled, living, and made its way as a beast disturbed by so many predatory, looming shapes, away from the group. Harmodius' hand restructured itself again to white.
"Humoral...fluid...? That was your next mentioning. Should you like such a demonstration as that as well, and then one without any sacrifice? Or will the single suffice?"

NinetailedNightmare
James watched the way Creation made across to his dragon, and the kindness that he bestowed upon the mortal host and the god did not go unnoticed. The words of the consolation were strange and lyrical, but it moved a part of the Esarian in a manner that would have been shameful. Passion, or for that matter, compassion was so foreign a thing to be seen that the inch of him that felt was feeling rather helpless in the wake of it. Luckily, he was only the observer. He was definitely beginning to see why others were so quick and eager to be near him, to serve and protect him. The charisma was definitely there.

Then Harmodius turned to him and blackened his own palm, using words to call forth a new and craggy life. He named it and told it what it would eat, and then it scampered away into the wilderness. Needless to say, James was a bit awestruck. His eyes watched its fiery form wheedle through the weeds with open intensity. He had no doubt it was just as its Maker had said.

All he could give the deity for a minute was a bright-eyed, wry grin behind his glasses. His head of curls shook with the question, though.

"I only meant them as a handful of examples. In the Earthling's Judaism and Christianity, the god of creation makes the first man from the soil -or ash- of Earth. On the world Peledra, the ruling beings believe their god forged them in the fire of the volcano, and that all lower creatures arose from their ash. Indeed, I have seen a world at war on debate of whether their god made them from his spit or his semen. There are tales as numerous as the stars... or, I suppose the better metaphor now would be grains of sand. It would be good for me to know the truth of creation, but I think it is clear that you may synthesize from whatever material you wish.

I've seen Your power with my own eyes. The Scientific Method would require I ask more trials of You, but I am satisfied. How magnificent You are! And wonderful for indulging me. I would not ask more of Your time on the matter, but surely would not object to anything further."

He glanced over at Laurence - was that not spectacular?

The weight reminded the man of the burden he had accepted when Shuo had finally spoken to him, and his shoulders slumped as though the memory had managed to relieve him just a little. He could not deny the truth of His words, though his teeth gritted themselves quietly. Much as he didn't like it, it was a natural process--and if he didn't take care of it soon, he might lose the chance entirely, if Shuo were to take over before he could come to terms with himself, and what had transpired after his possession. "They'll be remembered," He finally muttered under his breath, more of an assent to himself than anything. "...Thank you, Lord."

"No, they will not be forgotten. Nor will you," The dragon added firmly, having seized hold of His words with his teeth and using them to serve his own purposes. "That may very well be, my Lord, but even so, I will redouble my efforts. I will remember them all, and they will be honored. This, I promise." The once-skilled liar meant every word, and his promises were not ones to be broken. For Shuo Huang Zhe, even now, a promise was not to be given unless he fully intended to keep it. It was a trust that he would never betray.

Though his mind was uneasy, the priest had much to think about. All he'd been doing these past few weeks was moping, and the thought was enough to make his lip curl with disgust. No longer. Still, before he could brood for too long, the murmurings of God and the way His hand suddenly began to char was enough to make him recoil with shock. A salamander... There was a smug sort of satisfaction that was shared by both dragon and man, though it was Laurence who was looking at James as though to savor his reactions. He could not doubt, now. Shuo was content to admire His work, as always, and likely would have crooned after the tiny creature if he were able.

"Don't tire Yourself too much." The baritone rumble was slightly anxious, unwilling to watch Him tire Himself while he could do nothing to offer aid. Fortunately, James understood, though the dragon had not been concerned that he might push Harmodius--it was simply his nature to protect Him and coil at his feet.

When James' eyes met his own, the priest's expression softened slightly, and he and the smaller man likely shared a moment of understanding. So long as James knew, now. Of course, their earlier, less-than-flattering argument might have been avoided if the man had told him he wasn't even from the goddamn Earth to begin with.

Creation smiled at reactions and words altogether. "'More then one accord is met, then, and I am glad of it. Though oaths be dangerous to take in company."

"So having repaired ourselves, how can I offer you further service? Having a proven creature that can enact spontaneous generation of matter, or destroy it, what more? Your race compiled great scientific learning, needing little anymore of the older gods for comfort or survival, finding myriad more limited gods to offer devotion to. Great learning asks more specific, if sometimes less questions....mulling answers more over than more primitive societies. "

"There are gods, they live and are reborn here, in this confluence. They can travel anywhere, when they have regained sufficient strength. They are ageless, failing only to powers great as themselves...and even then it is a conscious Death: painful dissolution of the highest mana into all the threads of what Is. Is there more that your mission requires? And if not, what then shall you seek?"

NinetailedNightmare
Delighted by their shared moment, James' task was primarily not to look too happy while Laurence and Shuo tied up their more grave subject. He might have offered his own reassurance, but he remembered that he was trying to be respectful by not getting involved. It didn't stop him, however, from giving the priest a warm, if slight smile when he was directly looked at. He was aware that Harmodius was in a recovery period, but not knowing quite what that meant in terms of a god, he didn't know what sort of extent of energy he was requesting. As far as he knew, the creation of life was as simple as a breath. The best course of action was always to ask, not demand - he expected that the god knew he was allowed to deny a request, and that he, of all Things, should know his limitations.

Indeed, Creation seemed to be little phased by Shuo's request not to overexert Himself, so James didn't plan to dwell on it either. He may have stood a little taller at Harmodius' words, taking them as a compliment to his race. That Creation itself classified the Esarians as creatures of higher knowledge in what James presumed to be the respect of all worlds... Well, as estranged as he felt from his homeworld now, there was joy in such a confirmation, and pride for his origins despite the shortcomings he had come to perceive in them (and in himself). It also raised an interesting point - the Esarians coveted knowledge, then science over everything, and therefor worshiped a god they had neither known nor accredited. The Esarians did not adhere to religion, for none had ever found a true god to fit their standards. It was actually something of a joke among them, but also one of the most important concepts in prepping their young for their missions. If all the 'true' gods were here, though, recovering from the Fading... it made perfect sense why they had never been found. Until now. And it was happening to him.

"If what You say is true, then these ones You call 'gods' are indeed very powerful creatures. The definition, thus the standards, of calling someone a 'deity' by my race fit them in all respects except two:

First, that they may 'die' as an individual does not put them in line with the majority of recorded religious philosophy. The adherence to the concept death is a process by which we have defined mortals. However, You spoke of 'lesser' gods, a concept Esarians have not known other than to say they are less powerful than an omnipotent god. Should I create a subclass for Your gods, which allows death? A colleague here has informed me of the 'Fading' by which Your gods did perish of malnutrition regarding worship. If You will confirm for me, Your gods do not need to subsist on anything physical?

Secondly, a 'god' must have a following. I admit I have met and spoken with few of Your gods to confirm that they met this requirement, but the majority of samples were still host-bound and, thus, I presumed they were not yet fully capable of forming their adherents. I see this standard now as one that can be grown into as much as publicity and fame.

Only You have met all of the requirements, Harmodius. I have not heard of You dying, and I have observed Your following. I should stress that science is ever-fluctuating with discovery, and with exceptions come new rules by which we measure everything. What you tell me already challenges much of what we believe to be true of the universe, and in time I would seek to prove these things for myself if it is possible. I can record everything, but to construct a theory and make it law... you understand much more will have to pursue the matter in much greater detail. I must. Assuming space returns and provides my people transport again, this world shall not see another Esarian for a good millennium or more. Though, exceptions have been made - if my word and my evidence holds any gravity on my people now... I would expect a team to come as soon as possible. As it stands, I have nearly broken every Procedural Law, and to answer your question would shatter another..."

A faint smile at that, though the gesture did not reach his eyes.

"The Esarian mission is to observe everything a planet has to offer. One unit is assigned per planet or other formation, sometimes more depending on size of the astral body in question and its surroundings. Usually it is a planet. During the allotted time, the Esarian must conform itself to the system in place to cause no disturbance, and to keep our identity as classified as possible. Sometimes infiltration is necessary, if dealing with nomadic races. The goal is simple; the execution is the difficulty. We may not abort the mission early, nor may we return late unless a dire circumstance occurs. Once we return, we make the presentation of the planet to our people and those guests who have been allowed. Everything is then stored in the archive or our specimen district.

What that means is I am here for some time. My last mission was the planet Earth, and the time I was allowed there was the equivalent of thirteen years. I stayed seventeen.

Truth be told, I am not entirely certain as to what I will do. My circumstances are no longer quite what they were. I wish to explore this land, hopefully with the help of the craft I came in. It is broken for the moment. Other than that, I have no other option than to do that which I was made for, though Esare is..."

Esare was not a home to him. He didn't know how to say as much. James was treated much as he would have been if he were simply trading missions, but he felt as if he were no longer welcome on that planet, with its artificial culture and its clinical disposition; its overlords who honored very little. There was sorrow there, but it wasn't something he showed on his physical features, hands lifted and empty in a similar gesture to a shrug.

"I suppose I'll then begin working through the system I have, being sure to make an allowance for what changes may occur to this planet, since I assume it is... still 'under construction', if you will. I must confess, however, that I am sorely tempted to linger here, if I am welcome, and call the Pantheon my base of operation. Whatever Your gods may be... I find myself charmed by each of them in turn, mostly by simply seeing who they are." His eyes flickered over to Shuo and Laurence, "To that extent I wonder what would be the more noble cause. Lord Harmodius, I know I am weak and long-winded, but if you could see any part of me useful to Your Pantheon, I am diligent. You see more than I could ever hope to; I would value any guidance You have to offer me in this matter."

Tsunake
And now they were launching into a whole different level of conversation--one that Laurence valiantly attempted to keep up with at first before he subtly shook his head to himself and wisely gave up. There'd be time for him to be more blunt with James afterward, and turned his thoughts inward for now.

Even if he wasn't going to listen, the dragon was attentive as always, gathering up information almost thoughtfully processing just what it all meant. He wouldn't dare interrupt though, feeling his heart swell with pride that Creation and the enthusiastic little man seemed to be getting along so well. Perhaps there was a place for him yet--

--and, of course, the revelation that James chose to not return home, disobeying his superiors to remain on the planet Earth was something that fascinated Mang. Had James lost his way? Well, certainly a loss for the planet of Esare, and a momentous gain for them. The man was charismatic, delightfully so, and Shuo only wished that he was strong enough to trade stories with the younger on a more frequent basis. Ah, well, Laurence would have to serve as an interpreter.

The priest silently twitched at the mere thought.

Creation smiled at reactions and words altogether. "Great may be the cause of learning, the wisdom of its secrey and the mastery of the forethought not to pollute the experiment or the source. But what is it to ever be apart? To live in comfortable inaction, watching the cat eat the poisoned fish while extolling the horrors of chemical pollution? It breeds indifference, which is the sown seed against the orders of nature: stagnation and sapping of creativity and vigor from the mind. Inaction is safe, but it builds.....nothing."

"You speak as one who would build. Would you test this in yourself? My advice lays on this, if you would do the utmost for these cause and more. A great and costly experiment on one hand, like Victor Frankenstein to become the monster? Or would it be to act as the control group? Look at the stones gathered, and see if one calls you. See if you may be a Builder, not just observer... "

"Even if this advice be not amenable, I would gladly open the doors of our home, welcome you to stay here at this Pantheon and be among us. Learn and help others learn. "

NinetailedNightmare
"Happy is he who has the pure truth in him. He will regret no sacrifice that keeps it," Came the reply, a quirk of lip that was almost sly, "I trod heaven in my thoughts, now exulting in my powers, now burning with the idea of their effects. From my infancy I was imbued with high hopes and a lofty ambition."

The expression faded slightly to bemusement as he realized what Harmodius truly meant by 'Builder', just as well as he realized those 'stones' may actually be literal. "You wish for me to be host to one of Your gods?" He hesitated, not wanting to suggest anything toward himself but asking for a clarification. Thinking on it, James corrected himself to say that Harmodius wasn't offering, but suggesting a possibility. Wouldn't Creation know if he was suited to the task? Was Harmodius not the one to decide who was allowed to nurse his own?

"I see no harm in reviewing potentials," But his voice did so suggest the barest of tension, "If nothing else, seeing your collection would be beneficial to my study."

James as a potential host? Laurence wasn't sure how he felt about that--but what would the harm be? If the man wanted to devote his life to something more noble than himself, then the priest could only respect his decision, and, grudgingly, admit that he found it admirable.

But you still would be bothered by the notion. You do not feel as though he has any reason to repent. The dragon noted, and the priest tried not to sigh. Having his own head-space was something he missed. Yes. He'll die if he does this, right?

That depends on the god, but yes, that is a possibility.

"Before I forget, my Lord--" Laurence interjected hastily, unsure if they were going to leave to conduct the choosing somewhere more private. "...The Night Elf, Illisia, graciously offered me her quarters as a place to stay, but I was wondering if I could beg You to provide Mang and I a place of our own to reside."

He slowly moved his hand through the air in an arc before himself, a series of jewels materializing there, suspended in the air as though in water. They threw out the light from the Eldest as living stars would. "Here are those that have been gathered, and one among them may call to you. If it is not so, then it is not so. If it is so, it remains your choice, but you will feel the weight of the decision."

"Illisia is a generous woman, indeed. Seek the door that of banner sigils and layered shields bearing the coats of arms of noble houses, shifting as do fortunes of politics and dragon's own scales. This is yours to form as you wish. "

NinetailedNightmare
James did not gawk or gape when the gems manifested before their maker, but he did seem to admire the collection. With permission, he was unafraid to wander freely among their suspended forms, only minding his step to keep from disturbing them. This was so simple a trick, yet it was instinct to hypothesize the forces which kept the stones aloft.

Truth be told, he wasn't expecting much of anything. When the voice filtered through his mind, he was in the process of removing his glasses.

there you are...

James, who folded his glasses and looked at the world unchanged and blinked.

it's been too long...

Sclera, pupil, and iris bled together into one smooth, emerald surface. Everything was different now. The stones were like pinpoints of light all around him, and the deity nearby a marble slab of hot and cold. His lips did part faintly, as he felt something distinctly not his creeping through his thoughts.

"Can they speak?" He ventured aloud, wondering if anyone else was aware of the cool, subtle trickle of sound.

but I am patient...

James continued to wade through the sea of stars, some brighter than others. He didn't know what he was looking for, if anything, until he found it. It was so simple.

I suppose it's better late than...

I do not recognize you. Came the bemused thought.

You wouldn't.

Smug? Exasperated? It was hard to tell when each word was a sigh.

Tsunake
The priest found himself gaping at the easy display of power, captivated by all of the different gem stones that threatened to blind him if he looked straight at them. The dragon, however, quivered within the man's soul at the sight of so many kin, an ache of longing filling him for a moment. There were so many still, so many that He had gathered and protected... would they ever find their hosts? Though the Gehenna had devastated the mortals so, they were a strong and hardy bunch. The worlds would recover with enough time. Creation would see to that.

"She is," Laurence murmured, bowing deeply for God's generosity. "Thank you, my Lord. I will." A coat of arms? Sigils and layered shields? Shuo had all but swelled at such a fitting domain for he and his host to reside, but before he could speak, James' question was enough to make him pause. Had he found something? Or was it idle curiosity that prompted him to ask?

It was impossible to say, but both host and Dragon King were watching in silence now. The anticipation in the air was a little stifling.

His expression was a dead neutral, betrayed only by the brilliance in the mismatch eyes, "They do, but to myself and prospective hosts alone ."

"Can you find which it is you hear?"

NinetailedNightmare
Could he? He thought so, but nothing was certain yet. The question echoed in his head, but it was eclipsed by the implication - prospective host. If something was talking to him, then that meant he was able.

Is it true? Are you... looking for me?

James' thoughts didn't often run in line with speech, but pictures and notes from his own language. Numbers, calculations, text, these were familiar, so without a memory running through he knew the sound of someone talking -and in a manner that seemed to speak directly to him- was not usual to his process.

No. I suffer now.

There were tendrils of white pouring off one of the stones in particular within James' new vision. It was energy, not necessarily heat, but an energy. It was very obvious when the other gems kept whatever power they possessed contained within them. Whatever this was, it was the most active one of the bunch.

Is that you?

But there was no ready response this time. With the last word came some concern, and James stepped toward what he could only hope was the stone which called to him.

"I think it's this one," James said, glancing over at Harmodius, the cold shape of his mouth in the haze of his vision. The Esarian willed his human eyes back, extracting the template, duplicating DNA within seconds to hollow and reform. The gem was red and dark - he didn't know why he was surprised, but he was.

"Is there any way to prove it? To know for certain?"

Ivynian
User Image

A smile cut across his mouth, neither glad or tragic. It was old, painfully old on the ageless face.

"You just did."

The other jewels vanished, leaving the last to drop into the open palm of Creation. "This is the Asonian Paroxysm...and there is something in you that this one lacks, so you are the best suited, the Chosen, of this jewel. I offer it to your keeping, to think over. You need not accept, to trade destiny for such a rebirth is a heavy burden whatever the God in question. But you need not refuse either, as this calling is the least fruitless of any ambition. It is one that will touch all that Is. "

NinetailedNightmare
An eternal rage. That made James blink a little, for thoughts of anger were beyond him. He had never learned that trait. No wonder why he couldn't recognize the quiet god which murmured to him from the stone.

James looked between Creation, Laurence, and, finally, the gem. Harmodius' words hung in his ears, his more analytical brain carefully dissecting away. Apparently, he had something within him that this gem needed in order to be born again. How often had Harmodius given such a speech, he wondered? How many had heard this call and given in to its promise of glory? How many had turned away... and how did they possibly manage it?

The Esarian had tasted fear before, but he did not feel it now. In the wake of the decision, he was only torn between the plans he would have made. He was not like Arden, who worried for the future of the world come the rise of Famine. It was the folly of men to think they could stop the way the universe spiraled toward the inevitable. If it was not him who bore the Asonian Paroxysm to maturity, someone else undoubtedly would. The only question was whether or not he wanted it to be him.

Harmodius claimed no greater purpose, but of course he would say such a thing. The claim of being able to be an influential part of the universe at large was indeed a hefty promise, and truth be told the thought of it was enough to make him feel weak. It didn't matter what the god was, the fact that it was his -wanted him- was enough to leave him breathless.

"I will die by this, should I accept," It wasn't a question, but he would accept a conformation. He seemed carefully intuitive, but otherwise impassive on the surface. "How long does the ascension usually take? How long would I last? I suppose it is wholly dependent, isn't it..."

He frowned mildly, casting his eyes down in thought. Then, he stepped forward, outstretching his hand. Wherever this road might take him, he wanted it.

"I accept."

Tsunake
The Asonian Paroxysm? The words were strange and foreign in his head, but what struck Laurence soundly was the fact that James... well, it seemed as though he, too, was about to become a host. If he so chose, anyway, and of course, there were other things to consider, but Laurence honestly wasn't sure how he felt about this. About any of it.

Anger. Shuo translated, his tone oddly neutral. The burden of becoming a host was an honor--but it could also be a tragedy for those who did not understand what it fully entailed.

Yes, he would die. It was more than that, though. Shuo had explained to Laurence that the very act of becoming a host meant that one's body and soul would be consumed in the process to rebirth a deity. There was no afterlife, no rebirth. Everything would end with the god's new beginning.

Did James really want to die? Especially to house a god of Anger? The priest kept his tongue still, trying to fight the sudden frustration he felt pricking at his thoughts. It didn't seem right, somehow--his choice had been different. He'd needed redemption. Why was James ready to throw everything away?

He turned his hand and pressed the stone into James', catching the smaller hand in a firm, reassuring grip once before letting go. "Should your contemplation prove that you wish to rebirth the god, hold the stone against your skin where you will to wear it. "

"I can make no promises of time, nor of experience. Some go with pain, others find pleasure. Some fight bitterly to the last shred of their mortality, others hold up their gods as butterflies that must learn to fly anew. It can be weeks, months, or even years."

"The best council that can be given is to be alive and living for life, rather than live as one waiting for death. But that applies without the additional burden of the stones. "

NinetailedNightmare
When the god touched him, the mortal did tremble, but not from fright. His eyes widened a fraction behind the facade of his lenses, brows hitched in a way that almost suggested pain. No one touched him, not willingly, and not like this. It was completely simple, but the effect was powerful. After the hand was gone, James felt its loss, and withdrew quietly into himself, lips thin with emotion. He cradled the rock like a memento and ignored its slow burn.

For a moment, he was still. Thinking. Then, slowly, he turned his head to gander at his companion, wrapping himself in reality once again.

What they must think of him.

And yet, this was completely his decision. Whatever it may turn out to be, he owed no other explanation than what he was inclined to give.

He was still cradling his hand like a foreign object when he offered dragon and human a slight smile, shifted his thumb, and pressed the gem firmly into the heart of his palm. There was no pain as it dipped into the flesh, and barely any resistance. For nearly a minute, there wasn't anything to do but to marvel at how it fit into him.

Then, there was heat. It washed over him pleasantly at first, like sitting down near a fire in winter. But that warmth turned into a swelter, and that swelter into a boiling. James breathed in slowly, but it brought him no reprieve. From the circumference of the stone came a blooming flush that overtook his arm, veins of darker red soon lacing over its claim. It was nothing less than excruciating. Whether from shock or resilience, though, the Esarian did not cry out, but bit his lip and bore it, absolutely still even if his body wished to writhe abortively. He had made a promise, foolhardy as it may seem. He refused to flinch and fail again.

The garnet etching reached his cheek before his eyes finally rolled back and his meager form crumpled beneath him.

Dragon Dance
Talking with Yu Five Claw
Joint RP #14

Syrie
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Creation had encouraged the Pillar to go and walk, enjoy himself in the greenery outside the Pantheon; to stretch his muscular legs and enjoy himself...perhaps even to take a dip in one of the lakes that had been formed. Yu was loathe to leave his master's side, but he had taken his leave if for no other reason than to patrol; to see some of the other Gods, the mortals...whomever.

As much as he was driven by purpose, the lazy feel of the day got to him and instead of returning directly to Creation's side after a quick patrol, Yu Five Claws had instead settled at the water's edge, feet dipping into the water while he looked up; no sky...but a false sort of emptiness that Creation had fashioned. Yu missed the sky. He also knew that there were plans in action that were meant to return it - or something like it - to them. Sooner, rather than later, he assumed as Light had finished his task...and Glyph and the others had also finished theirs. Both things that required completion before something new could be fashioned.

A small bug skittered by, catching his attention and causing his muzzle to skin back in something akin to a smile. With Him back, things were returning to how they Should Be. It made him happy.

Tsunake
For the first time in a while, the priest was finally at peace. He wasn't overly elated, but no longer did he slink in the shadows of the Pantheon, torturing himself with thoughts of his fall from grace--though it had not been his choice to do so. After talking to Him, though... well, Laurence had grudgingly started the process that would eventually lead to forgiving himself. He had at least realized that God could not simply relieve the burden from him. Even if he could, that would somehow cheapen the worth of the lives that had been lost.

Shuo, too, though he mourned the one named Aristogeiton, had also done what he could to move on. Harmodius was who he lived for, who he still strained to serve even with his weakened presence. His first, failed rebirth had done him no favors. Even now, Laurence knew that his damaged memory frustrated Mang, but the dragon didn't like to speak of it much.

He paced closer to the lakes he'd spotted in the distance, a little restless now that there was really nothing left for him to do but wait for the eventual takeover of his body. Though the thoughts preoccupied his mind, it would be hard for anyone to miss the not-demon lounging near the shore, still so vast and wrong somehow, even with the dragon-like features he could pick out now.

There was no denying how Shuo's mood lightened upon seeing one of his beloved brothers, and Laurence suppressed a sigh before he reluctantly called out to the beast. "Yu Five Claws." The priest dipped his head politely, and his dragon's radiant pleasure at his politeness was nearly enough to make him cringe.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Upon hearing his name called out by a semi-familiar voice, Yu lifted his head and turned it to identify whom had wished his attention. Ah, the priest-holding-Brother-Mang! The monsterous Dragon King stretched and rose to his feet, muzzle skinned back in a greeting - and in remembrance of how utterly horrified the priest had been when they first met...and how pleased Shuo had been despite his host's obvious distaste.

"Greetings, Brother Mang and host Laurence." Though he did not dip his head, he did incline it graciously out of respect for his Brother's host - likewise did he not joyously jump and wrestle Mang as was his wont. Not causing heart attacks in delicate mortals-turned-hosts could be so difficult sometimes!

"Enjoying the day? You seem well, at peace. Moreso than before."

Tsunake
The wicked teeth that gleamed in that dark muzzle was enough to inwardly rattle the priest--but he had grudgingly accepted that despite Yu's ferocious outward appearance, there was no questioning the Dragon King's loyalty. He served the same purpose that Shuo and even himself did, and anyone willing to serve God deserved his respect.

"I am," He said after a moment, steeling himself. "I spoke to our Lord. He has forgive me, for my sins, and given me advice that I've taken to heart. ...and I apologize for the way I first treated you." Laurence forced himself to say, dipping his head once more. "I misjudged you. Your appearance took me aback."

It was a feeble excuse, at best, but it had been the truth.

Syrie
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."Good. I am glad to hear that you are more at ease now...being chosen as the vessel of rebirth for a Dragon King is no small honor." He chuffed a bit, ears twitching as his tail swished lazily from side to side; he was relaxed, amused and yes, pleased.

Yu cocked his head a bit, mentally going back over the way that Laurence had tried to exorcise him and keep him - a demon - from harming that godawful punk female that Creation seemed to enjoy talking with. Hilarious! But he didn't laugh since Laurence was apologizing, it just wouldn't do and he might offend the mortal host if he did.

"Thank you, but no apology was necessary." A flash of more teeth, bright and gleaming, "I am well aware that my host gave me quite the...fantastical face. I think it suits, quite well."

Tsunake
Laurence was touchy--and he'd started to realize that Yu was not about to swallow him whole, so he might have attempted to verbally shoot the Dragon King down. Mang would have been horrified. "I'm realizing that," He muttered to himself, pressing his fingers against his temples.

"What was your host?" He genuinely had to ask, having never seen something quite like... well. Whatever it was that Yu had possessed. He couldn't help but think that in the very least, it might deter people from doing something stupid and trying to harm Him again. Laurence couldn't see anything wrong with that.

The priest hesitated again, somehow feeling like his apology hadn't been enough. "I've had--bad experiences with demons before."

Yu was a monsterous visage for certain, but that did not mean his brain was minute or soft; the priest definitely would have gotten a goodly amount of what he'd given right back at 'em.

"My host...was a shapeshifter. A nightmare figment, bathed in blood and shadows. We are not entirely sure what the Fragment was, but he served me well and faithfully to the end. I did not have to fight the creature to be reborn." Which was a huge thing...not all hosts were pleased to discover that they were going to "lose" themselves so that some deity or other could be born! Many were quite upset, truth be told - quite a pity, in Yu's mind. There was much to be said for the glory and honor that accompanied being chosen as the vessel for a God's rebirth. Fragment had understood that...sought it out, even. Nearly killed his Brother, Jin Huang's mortal host, Delmin Brock.

Yu chuckled again; that rumbling, inhuman sound. "Understandable, Host Laurence. I understand quite well and take no true offense. As I have said and you have no doubt noticed, this form has some distinctive advantages for my service to the Twin Crown."

That would have undoubtedly impressed him--brute strength and open ferocity did little to sway his opinion, but wit and a barbed tongue never failed to have him reconsider. Usually. Unless he'd already decided you annoyed the hell out of him and there was absolutely no chance for redemption. Hypocritical? Always.

"You'll forgive me if I don't seem sympathetic that he's gone for good." The priest said drolly, shaking his head. Blood and shadows. That hit too close to demons for his liking, and if such a monstrosity could become something good, then that was one less creature prowling about and preying upon the innocent. Laurence himself had struggled with accepting such a fate--not because of what it would entail, but rather, he wasn't sure if Shuo Huang Zhe had been telling him the truth or not. To serve God was an honor he could not even begin to describe.

The man nodded grudgingly at that. "If you'll make His enemies think twice, then that's good enough for me. I have a question for you, if I may." His fist tightened as he could literally feel Shuo wondering what Yu's face and horns must feel like. Damnable dragon. He'd already had to humiliate himself in front of Jin Huang, and he would not do it again if he had any say.
