The boil in question was not discretely fingering almost everything in reach. He jerked almost guiltily, pulling his hand back from a floral printed shirt that was baffling him as there was literally no difference in the material as it changed colors much like a child caught with his hand in the cookie jar. He really was unsure of what criteria Alexander was using other than color so he shook his head.

"Were shirts the only clothing items that you required?" he questioned, uncertain if they were staying within the store to continue shopping or heading to the counter to pay. Either way it was probably just safest to stick close by the zomboil. He was mostly just grateful that no one had bothered them yet, though he thought he saw a worker who had been folding clothing watching them quietly.

Alex considered Yins question for, oh, about half a second before saying, "Well, I wouldn't mind looking at their tie selection!" With a big, hopeful grin. But if Yin wanted to leeeeaaaaave...He guessed he could deal with that. His gaze was already wandering towards the many, many racks of ties though.

Oh, also, did he need any new pants? He took a quick inventory in his head of what he had back in his dorm. He had actually, surprisingly, a lot more pairs of those then shirts for some reason. He was always, forever, managing to lose his shirts. Someday he might have to sit down and figure out why that was.

But for now...

Big hopeful pleading eyes of hope directed towards the weremantis.

The weremantis truly did not understand the zomboil's desire for the strips of cloth. He looked at the one that Alexander was wearing. It would be too easy to tighten up that skull pin and choke him, though as an undead he seemed to recall that they did not need to breath.

But the look he was being given was hard to ignore. It was almost like Princess Eva's when she wanted him to play with her. Since we are already here... the mantodae said slowly, and began to walk toward the racks. At least they held a plethora of colors and designs, so while he was not looking for anything to purchase there would still be enough to hold his attention while the zomboil shopped.

Probably.

Maybe.

Alex was almost bouncing around he was so excited! Like a scareling in a candy store his face split in to a wide grin. "Yin, you are the best! Also, seriously, you want anything, you let me know, ok?"

He practically danced his way over to the tie racks. It was...probably the most outrageous thing anybody could imagine. A zombie, dancing around in happiness, over something so simple as a small strip of cloth.

He was in his happy place, at last!

But now down to business. Once he actually got to the tie racks, he began his search. He knew what he liked, and what he didn't, and it never usually took him very long to pick out things that he wanted for himself. He immediately headed towards the darker colored ties, knowing that it was rare for himself to come upon something in a lighter color that he would like. (besides his shirts, of course)

This one here was interesting! Oh and this one as well! He snatched them both up happily, then looked for more. How about this one ? Might as well snag this one too, since it's on sale and he didn't have one quite like it yet. And then he saw it, the best one of all! It was a simple black tie, shiny and wonderful, with a white "A" near the bottom in a splatter type design. He instantly loved it. New favorite right here!

With a rather ashamed look on his face, he turned back to Yin and held out his collection "Look how many I found!" and then "Have you ever thought about wearing a tie?" Eyes lighting up.

Yin was about to make his usual protests when the zomboil passed him. He blinked in surprised, watching the dancing zomboil ad he made his way over to the tie racks, shirts fluttering in protest as they were hauled along. Well, this was odd. He kept his mouth shut as Alexander began his hunt, pulling out several.

When he turned toward Yin and held out his arms Yin assumed he would be asking him to make a selection. He was slightly taken aback when Alexander seemed to proclaim he was purchasing them all. "They all look,"very red and black, his mind supplied, "very nice." His fingers were tracing over a green tie, which was hard to take his eyes off of as it kept drawing his eyes down the pattern.

Ties seemed of a particular importance to his friend, so he was unsure of how to proceed. Finally, with a light sigh he answered. "I have never considered it." He hurried to add on to his statement. "I had never seen a tie before I came to Amityville though, so I am sure they are very nice to wear."
PostPosted: Wed Jan 18, 2012 11:21 am

Pffff, of course they were nice! He wouldn't have picked them out if they weren't nice. But he graced his friend with an appreciative look before glancing down to the green tie he was running his fingers across.

"Wait, so there are no ties where you come from?" That...that was a travesty! A horror not even imaginable to the zomboil. In fact, he had enough trouble keeping the horror of it out of his eyes.

Suddenly, Alex heard a noise. A loud throat clearing "Ahem." that was coming from the till clerks general area and he cringed, turning to have a quick look. The worker was giving a look, with an arched eyebrow, that clearly said "Are you going to be buying any of that or just continue to hold it and taint it with your filth?" Alex just waved, apologetically, and held up a finger to indicate that he needed another minute or so.

Then, looking for a place to gently put down his items, he turned back to Yin with empty arms. "Here, just let me...." His voice trailed off as he reached down and grabbed the green tie Yin had obviously been eyeing and moved closer to the other boil. He brought the tie up and around Yin's neck, ignoring any protests, if there were any, and deftly began to loop it and tie it to a four-in-hand knot, since that was the easiest to do. He'd never actually put a tie on anybody else but himself before, so it was a bit of a challenge, and he had his eyes focused the entire time. Slipping the knot up was the last part he had to do, then he adjusted it, and smoothed it down. He didn't put it on too tight, but it wasn't as loose as Alex tended to wear his, either.

Finally he stepped back, admiring his handy work. The tie really didn't fit with the other clothes that Yin was wearing, but it still brought a smile to Alex's lips. Had Yin always looked so handsome? Must just be the tie talking.

The zomboil looked highly distressed at the idea that Yin had not grown up in a place with ties. Sure, they were nice to look at and many had interesting patterns, but there was really no call for the strip of silk. If it was not a necessity you could pretty well guarantee that a male Mantodae did not own it. The shop worker began to make a noise of protest at them, but otherwise said nothing.

Then Alexander was putting down his things. Did throat-clearing mean something else here? But the zomboil just reached down to pluck the tie from under his fingers and moved in. Yin had to fight himself from taking a step on instinct as he reached up to put the strip of cloth behind him and pulled both ends in front of his neck. "There is really no need!" he tried to protest, but Alexander was already crouching down slightly to begin fastening it.

It was a good thing that the weremantis did not have much of a personal bubble when it came to boils, especially as he had proven that he could take the zomboil down a few pegs if he wished. He stood there, exposing his neck somewhat awkwardly, eyeing his friend's white, messy hair as he could not really look down to see what was happening. Again he felt his cheeks beginning to flush, how foolish he had to looked, having someone else dress him as if he was a child.

When he was finished the tie felt...constricting. It was not tight, but it was around his neck and was not a loose garment either. He reached a hand up to touch it, and then self-consciously put his hand down. Alexander was staring at him and grinning. He probably looked ridiculous.

He looked for a mirror, and found one on the other side of the display. Moving around the rack he looked at himself in the mirror. With the clothing he had on he looked...pretty well ridiculous. The silken tie seemed merely to accent the basic material of his basic clothing that was well-worn and patched in far too many places. He reached up to undo the tie, but then realized that if he damaged the material he would likely have to purchase it. That was not a conversation that he wanted to have.

He turned and walked back to Alexander and tilted his head back slightly to expose his throat. It was a good thing Alexander was a zombie and not a vampire. "Can you take it off now? I do not believe that it suits my style of dress."

The fact that Yin looked terribly uncomfortable in the tie didn't even register with Alex. He was too busy admiring his own handy work when Yin turned away to go and look at himself in the mirror. It was only then that Alex noticed the weremantis was a little flushed, and began to worry that he had taken things too far, yet again, and had somehow done something very wrong.

He ran down a mental checklist quickly: Do not open doors for, do not try and refuse help from, do not attempt to help unless the help is asked for, and then he added, do not put a tie on. Was there anything else? Well, the ghoul thing, right.

When Yin turned back to him and asked him to remove the tie his face fell a little. Didn't he know how good it looked? Though he had to agree it didn't really match Yin's outfit. But who cared? Ties were awesome no matter what. He reached forward and began to undo the tie slowly, carefully, so as not to yank on it too hard and end up startling or hurting the weremantis in some way. "Well I liked it." He blurted, before he could stop himself, then cringed at himself inwardly. What a stupid thing to say that was! It didn't take much time before the tie was fully removed. "The color really suited you." He mumbled, putting the tie back where he had gotten it from and hoping the clerk didn't insist that they buy it now. Green really wasn't Alex's color, and he doubted if he gave it to Yin as a gift that the weremantis would really appreciate it.

"Well, I think we're about done here now!" He said, trying to sound happier, and picking up his things to take up to the till.

Once over there, he dumped the things he would be buying on the counter that the worker was standing behind, and waited. The clerk just gave him a look, and said "Will that be everything....sir?" Alex could tell that the sir at the end of the sentence had been said with some amount of distaste, and the way the clerk handled the objects, and leaned away from Alex spoke louder then words to the zomboil.

"Yes, that's everything, thank you." He muttered, while sliding his back pack off of his shoulders so that he could rummage inside for his money. "How much is it?" He asked, then began to count out his silver pumpkin seeds to pay.

He seemed to have quite a lot of them.

"Thank you," Yin said softly and as sincerely as he could. He did not wish to offend his friend and his rather odd obsession with ties. Even if it was bizarre. And the compliments were probably well meant, as the colors did match what he preferred to wear and Alexander did like ties.

He shadowed Alexander toward the counter but hung back just a bit as Alexander went to purchase his goods. The clerk seemed to be somewhat moody, but Alexander did not seem too offended and Yin did not want to jeopardize this store, especially since the zomboil had already made all of his selections.

He then tried not to stare as the boil began pulling out a veritable fortune in silver pumpkin seeds. It was astounding to him that a boil, much less a teenage boil, could even own that much. He waited as the transaction was completed before stepping up beside Alexander. "Would you like me to carry your purchases?" he offered. "And where are we going next? To get the cover for your eye?"
PostPosted: Wed Jan 18, 2012 1:50 pm

Alex shot his friend a glance. Was this a trick question of some kind? If he refused and carried his own items, would Yin get offended? Wait, why were things always a guessing game between the two of them??

It took Alex a little while to respond, as he zipped his back pack up and slid it over his shoulders again, his lean body and arms stretching as he did so. He decided to give Yin the answer he would have given anybody in this situation. He didn't need help, and the weremantis would just have to accept it. "Nope, that's fine. It's not heavy or anything." Wait, what was that about a cover for his eye?

"A cover---OH! My eyephone, right!" He smiled, thankful that Yin had remembered, even if his idea of what Alex actually needed was a bit skewed. He reached into his pocket and pulled out the phone, showing it to Yin. "This is an eyephone! It's a brand name for a type of mobile skellyphone..My parents bought it for me before I came to school so that I could keep in contact with them." He held it out to Yin. "You want to look at it? They're pretty durable, or at least, mine has been so far."

The thing looked like it might have been used for years, rather then a couple of months. How had Alex managed to get it to look so worn and beat up in such a short amount of time?

Yin watched as Alexander drew out the small box. Which was apparently a contact device. He took it hesitantly, knowing that the boil thought it was durable but worried nevertheless because he had absolute no idea what it was. He moved away from the counter, slowly making his way toward the door as he turned it over in his hands.

One side of it seemed to be glass, and he tried to keep his nails as far away from it as he could. There appeared to be a couple of buttons on the slender sides, and one indention on the glass side. There was also a slot on one end. Confusion merely grew the longer he held it, until finally, when they had almost reached to doors, he brushed the indented button.

And almost dropped the thing as the screen blazed to life. There, on the screen, was an image of an entire horde of ties. All red, and black and sometimes a smidgen of pale silver or white. All clustered together and spilling out the edges of the image. In white across the top was the time staring up at him, and along the bottom more words scrolled past. Sli...de to un...lock. Slide to unlock. He stared at it. Slide what?

He was so engrossed that he barely realized he had jerked when it had lit up, or really of any of his surroundings. Finally he looked back up at Alexander. "I understand that it is magic," he said, tone completely baffled, "but what does it do? What is a skellyphone? Why is it mobile? How is it used to contact others?"
PostPosted: Wed Jan 18, 2012 9:11 pm

Alex was pleasantly surprised when he received no argument from Yin about him carrying his own things. He was also highly bemused by Yin's reaction to the phone, especially when he accidentally turned the screen on, the brightness of it lighting up the weremantis's face. He tried to walk along as Yin studied the phone, but the other boil was suddenly too engrossed to move very far.

"Uh, yes, I guess it might seem like magic!" He continued to smile and thought about how he might be able to answer the rest of Yin's questions without spending the rest of the afternoon/evening standing here and talking.

"Well, umm, here, I can just show you exactly what it does!" and he reached out to gently take the phone back from Yin, then stood close beside him so that he could see the screen and what he was doing. He slid his thumb across the bottom of the screen, moving a graphic from left to right, and suddenly the screen changed. There were several different colored folders, and Alex tapped one that said contacts underneath.

"Every phone has it's own unique number. If you want to talk to somebody through the phone, you just type in their phones number, and then push the 'talk' or 'send' button." Alex scrolled down his phones list of contacts. There were surprisingly quite a few, since he had entered most of his family members before leaving home. When he stopped, the word 'home' was highlighted in bright orange, and he hit the talk button, then brought the phone up to his ear, saying to Yin "Just a second." before Yin might be able to hear a tiny feminine voice coming from the phone to say "Hello?"

"Hey mom, hold on! I'm going to put you on speaker phone, allright?" He paused as though listening for a response, and indeed there were some quiet sounds of protest, then brought his phone back down and tapped the screen.

"Alex, you know I hate it when you do that. Who do you have with you? I don't like it when other's can hear my voi--"

"Mom!" Alex interuppted, the voice that was now emitting from the eyephone very audibly, "It's already done! Anyways, remember that conversation we had yesterday? About me bringing somebody with me when I come home to visit?"

He just got silence from the other end.

"MOM! Seriously, you have to get over it, it's no different then you talking to me by myself! Anyways, say hi to Yin---I mean, Yǐn Cáng, please?" He glared at the phone, but suddenly, and quite audibly, a sigh could be heard.

"Hello Yǐn Cáng, this is Alex's mother. How are you? Are you happy now, Alex?" She sounded a little bit annoyed, and he had to grin.

"Yes, mom!" He then nudged Yin with his elbow, his eyes sparkling. "Say hi back" He whispered, his voice a friendly hiss. "She's really nice, don't let the fake attitude fool you."

Yin leaned in to watch the screen intently, mystified as things moved and colors changed. Alexander actually using the fun was quite beneficial, if he had tried to do those things himself he never would have gotten the phone open. Apparently slide meant to slide your finger across it, and not to slide the "eyephone" along the floor. Who knew?

He was still watching as the boil selected the word "home" and then took the phone away, though at that point Yin was so intently watching the phone that he simply followed it to Alexander's ear, turning slightly to do so. He thought he heard a noise from the phone, and then Alexander was talking. Yin glanced around, wondering if people would think that the zomboil was calling him mother, but no one seemed to be paying a lick of attention to them. Well, except for the clerk who seemed to be making shooing motions.

His attention was jerked back to the phone as a distinctly feminine voice filled the area, eyes widening ever so slightly. And she did not sound pleased. Then Alexander interrupted her. The mantodae was too stunned to really say anything, however. But his stomach began twisting into knots as first the woman ignored her son's question about bringing someone home, and then Alexander spoke to her in a demanding tone.

His brow furrowed. It did not matter that the woman was not standing there speaking, that was not how Alexander should talk to his mother. But then he was being introduced, and the woman was addressing him from the box. She was asking him a question. Dread was settling onto the weremantis' shoulders as the zomboil nudged him to speak.

To speak...to a ghoul...through a box. And his friend's mother at that. But she had asked him a question and he was expected to speak and after perhaps a moment too long of silence he responded in a voice projected just a little too loud. "Greetings Mistress..." oh. What was that word Alexander used? Jack? Oh jack, he did not know her name. He could not possibly call her Alexander's mother. Blood was quickly draining from his face as he began to panic, stepping back a pace. But there was nothing to run away from. Just that box in Alexander's hand. He hated that box. Ghouls could be anywhere with that box.
PostPosted: Wed Jan 18, 2012 10:16 pm

"Yin..Yin!" He hissed, as his friend took a step backwards. The phone, however, was continuing to emit his mothers voice. She sounded fairly amused, or just very happy.

"Mistress? I like that. Are you bringing an Igor home, Alex?"

Alex just frowned down at the phone, as though his mother could actually see him. "I told you already, now be nice." He pleaded, and then to Yin. "You can just call her Mrs. Van Rotte if you like?"

But his mom was already speaking again, a little louder, probably so she could be heard over top of Alex. "Yǐn Cáng, we look forward to meeting you. Any friend of Alex's is welcome in our home. Was that all you wanted, Alex? I have to go and get dinner ready."

"Yes mom, thank you!" he had a bit of a pained expression on his face. That couldn't have really gone much worse, could it? "Bye!" He waited for her answer, and then hit a button on the screen to end the call, then turned back to Yin

"Uh, so...that's one of the many things an eyephone can do!" He really didn't want to get into all the other things, like searching the web or taking photos, or even listening to music. "It's called a mobile because you can take it virtually anywhere...where as just a regular skellyphone can only stay within a certain radius of where it's plugged in."

"If we could just get to an electronic store, I could buy a protective case or covering for it, then it might not look so...beat up.."

Yin listened to the rest of the conversation as a maelstrom of horror and panic flooded his mind. He managed to here Van Rotte, so at least he knew to call her Mistress Van Rotte from now on, but that was piddly nonsense in comparison to what really mattered.

Mistress Van Rotte had sounded so excited that her son might be bringing an Igor home. Not some weird transfroms-into-a-giant-insect creature but an Igor. What if...what if she only really wanted him in her home if he was an Igor? What if she refused to let him in? Or was unhappy with his appearance? In this haze of doubt he heard her address him, but it was hard to get out of the downwards spiral his mind had chosen as its path.

He nodded dumbly to what Alexander said, actually hearing it but struggling to process it all. The best thing about it was that all of the information finally pulled Yin from his thoughts enough that he could function. "How can you speak to her in such a manner," he finally burst out when it seemed like the zomboil was finished talking. "She is your mother, and you talk to her like she is... he did not really know what he spoke to her like, but it was not right.
