He went still and quiet, a mixture of anger at being treated like a child, and another hating himself for not being more open. The last part, the one that made him quiet, was just the simple obedience he was raised with to just mind yourself and, if you couldn't say anything right, to shut up. Part of him really never wanted to talk, wondering if that was why a certain someone left him. Another part, after making amends with Paris, told him he should be more open. He wasn't sure what mix to handle as of yet.
"Sorry." He sipped his tea.

"Don't be sorry, just get over it." It was spoken into his cup, as Ever worked through the last, lingering sip, and eyed what was left on his plate. He'd eaten most of it, methodically and easily, protein and fats to tide him over -- but he hadn't eaten like a starving man, and hadn't lingered. Food wasn't as much his thing as it was some peoples'. Might explain part of why he looked half-starved all the time.
He budgeted more out for cigarettes, these days, than rations.
And on that note, he set down his glass and rooted around in his pocket. He had enough rumpled bills to cover what he owed plus tip -- albeit a rather low tip. That was how it work. He straightened it out on the edge of the table and then set it carefully on its side.
"Or don't, I guess, your choice." He was straightening, now, rolling out his shoulders and grabbing at his coat.

He watched as Ever went for his coat, and Ladon looked at the man's plate. Food done. Bill paid. No other reason to stay really, right? The snow was still falling down, but seemed like the blizzard was better to face than sitting around here. He already said he doesn't care what people think. Why would you matter? He doesn't even like you. You're crazy, remember?
He touched his fork, straightening it a bit on his plate. "You hate me - don't you?" He said, not looking up at the man. They weren't friends. He already knew this, and Ladon knew he didn't like him like a best buddy either. There were plenty of times he couldn't stand Ever. However, Zac told him he should be civil, and he didn't like leaving the impression he was nuts. If Ever felt he was, and Zac already did, did they talk to each other about him? Would Zac make Ever his right-hand man and promote him? Probably. Ever was never in the Traitors' Hall before.
No one could stand being around him.

The question made Ever pause -- halfway into his coat, his eyebrows crept slowly up toward his hairline, left him hesitating and unsure quite what to say to that. A dry reply of 'are you crazy' probably wouldn't help, right now. In fact, it'd only add to the self-doubt, the uncertainty that spilled its way into Ladon's tone and posture.
"...uh, no?" It was bemused, head tipped to the side, and he slowly shrugged the rest of the way into his jacket, smoothing out the collar. His eyes lingered on Ladon for a moment, then turned down to the task of finding the zipper. "I obviously make you pretty uncomfortable, though. You go so tense I almost worry about muscles snapping."
The zipper stuck then freed, sliding easily upward. "So I figured I'd leave you, let you explain to all the people around that you barely know the loud-mouth, and go back to your quiet."

To this, Ladon looked up. "If you don't care what other people think, why do you care what I think?" It was a general question following the logic that Ever had told him he could give two shits about anyone's opinion of him. Seeing as they didn't really get along, he wondered why he would even be concerned.

"I don't." It came out with a flicker of something amused -- that almost immediately faded to guilt, as Ever realized how cruel that came across, without context. Without explanation. He made a noise, hands shoved into his pockets, and looked around the diner.
"But you don't want me here, and you were here first. So. Now you can enjoy your dinner." He took a step back, shrugging again at Ladon. "I have other things I can be doing. Other people who do want me around. Why should I stay here and bother you?"

He was done with dinner, but stared at the plate as if he would find a good response that would reflect what he was feeling right now, but he wasn't sure what he was feeling or what he wanted. They weren't friends. They were working on the same side and knew Zink. That was it. There wasn't much to expect out of it, and maybe it was just the weather and too many days eating alone that bugged him.
"Stay warm." That was all.

Ever's reply was brief, teasing, in a casual sort of way; one hand brought up to his forehead in a crooked little salute, dark eyes flashing briefly. Ladon could always have asked him to stay. Could have said something positive. Could have avoiding the vaguely-insulting prudish attitude. No, Ever didn't really seem annoyed, just indifferent.
The same side. They knew Zink. Different attitudes.
He was on the way out the door before his hand had dropped all the way. "You too."
