Ed quickly reached behind himself, grabbing something from the counter and making eye contact with Robert, standing in front of the bird. Robert nodded. "Hey, hey bird! Hey birdie birdie birdie!" Robert called, waving his arms and holding the bird's attention. Ed tossed the Rehoming Ball, the special police pokeball that could capture already owned pokemon.

Ed quickly ran forward and slapped a lock cage around the pokeball. That little bird was a mean sucker! "Rob, you okay?"

Robert sat up, the front of his shirt shredded, showing the black vest underneath. "I'm fine, he got the vest. Let's turn that one over to Janice, maybe he'll react better to a female, and if not, she's got the pokemon to keep him in line."

Ed nodded. "Sounds good. Speaking of pokemon, you said you had one for me?"

"Yeah, come on. Let's drop this one off, then I'll show you." They dropped the pokemon off with Janice in the hostile pokemon department, then headed out back. Stopping at one of the large kennels, Rob called “Zorua, come here girl!”

Ed’s jaw dropped as the Zorua came out of the doghouse in back. “That is one gorgeous b****,” Ed said in a softly admiring tone. He knelt down, and held a hand to the chain link. “Hey girl. You wanna be my girl? You wanna help me catch bad guys?” The Zorua sniffed his hand politely while he talked to her. When he said ‘bad guys,’ she perked up, barking and wagging her tail. “Good girl!” Ed praised. “Sit!” She promptly sat and looked at him alertly. “Speak!” She barked sharply. “Down!” Zorua laid down. Ed grinned. “Sic ‘em!” She bounded to her feet and set up a horrible racket, barking like she was about to rip someone’s arm off. “Hold!” Zorua stopped immediately. Grinning, Ed turned to Robert. “I’ll take her!”

((Feel free to timeskip to morning if you want. "Janice" probably isn't going to make an appearance. Feel free to do your own version of what happened that night. Archie calming down with a female, flipping out and getting battled into submission, whatever.))

Ed grumbled as he emerged from the barracks. He hated when he got scheduled for ridiculous shifts that didn't give him the time to go home and get a proper sleep. Whatever, at least the station had bunks for when that happened, and he wasn't camped out on a couch in the break room. Ed hoped this round of the flu was over quick and they could get back to regular staffing soon. These double and triple shifts were murder.

Slugging back the last of the motor oil that passed for coffee in his mug, Ed headed over to the coffee pot, seeing Janice heading the same direction. "So, what's the news on the bird?"

Janice gave him a tired smile and poured her own mug of motor oil. "Finally got it calmed down. Berries. Tell the new trainer that it likes berries. And get it adopted out quick, it's going through them like mad."

Ed nodded. Refilling his cup, he quickly typed up a "Free to a good home" notice for the bird, faxed a copy to the pokemon center, then tacked the flier to the message board in the front of the station.

"Well, come on back. We'll see how he reacts to you. He was just caught, so he might be a little skittish yet. He does like berries though, if you are looking for ways to make friends with him," Ed told the boy. "And be careful that he doesn't try to eat your Swadloon."

They reached the back area where the Archeops was being held, and Ed opened the door to let the kid into the room full of kennels.

"Huh, seems like he likes you. Well, he's currently striped of his pokeball registration. If you have your own pokeball, you can catch him with that, if not, we've got a few pokeballs. I figgure if he lets you catch him, we'll let him go with you. If you have any trouble with him, you can bring him back. Sometimes rehomed pokemon don't bond right with their new trainers, and some have behavioral issues from their last owners. We'll have some paperwork for you to sign as well," Ed told the kid.

Ed led the kid over to his desk and dug out a stack of papers that went over the warnings, rules, and expectations for adopting a confiscated pokemon, which basically amounted to "Watch out for it attacking you/your pokemon/others, Bring it back if you can't handle it, Be aware that there might be a former owner in the area that wants it back so you might want to go explore for a while" and a pokemon care for dummies pamphlet, all in the legalese that the department liked.

"Here you go. Read and sign," Ed said as he handed over the papers. He sat down on the other side of the desk and dug out the paperwork for confiscating and rehoming the bird he had started last night. Might as well finish them now and close out what he could of the case.

Ed finished filling out the last of his own paperwork, and set down his pen. Taking the papers, he looked over them. "Yep, looks like you got it all. Congratulations on your new pokemon, have a nice day, and remember we accept returns if it turns out to be too much," Ed rattled off. He wanted coffee that didn't come from the station, and some time to work with his new Zorua. Maybe he could go hit the stadium? He was on call right now, but that didn't mean he had to be in the station...
