Several hours later found Caelius sitting, as promised, in Classroom A, comparing several diagrams together. The clock hanging on the classroom wall read: 6:55 pm

Mort realized something briefly before he disappated. For a zombie, he sure had seen a lot of fire in a short amount of time.

Like a lot of fire.

Looks like Herryk had competition in the shipping department, because Mort x Fire was starting to look hot.

What do you mean "shockwaves" aren't the same as "fire?" It still hurt him a heckuvalot when it tore through him.

Might as well have been fire, really.

(( Le exit! Thanks again for the fun, Zoo & Sosi! ))

Madison returned to Classroom A, report in hand. She was unsure how to feel about everything that had happened. Her failures were very easy for her to identify; her success, less so. Apparently the freak had said something important, though... she could only hope that, in writing her report, she'd managed to note that important thing.

At this point, all she wanted was to make it out without being thrown back into a pod for good. Taking a deep breath, she entered the classroom and held the report out to Caelius. "Here you are, sir."

Quote:
Deus Ex Machina Mission Report Form
Name: Madison McKenzie
Division: Life (?)
Status: .... Unsure
Mission ranking: Promotion
Status of mission: To be determined by my superiors.

After speaking with Caelius, I went to Halloween and obtained a subject for interrogation. The subject, a first-year undead named Mortimer ("Mort") was highly susceptible to the persona I created (a female gorgon named Calliope who was looking for a lost pet). He was easily lured. Caelius disabled him on my behalf as I made an error in judgement and did not make my own plans for the creature's capture. I freely admit and acknowledge this mistake.

Once back home, I interrogated the creature, though as I discovered he had only been at Amityville Academy for a single month - not the ideal subject. Here are my notes on his interrogation:

- The red cloaks of the 'revolutionaries' were worn for a 'funeral' and for 'mourning' - the symbol is clearly very powerful and something we can continue to use.

- He believed the Horsemen to be on the side of the students. He said the Horsemen called the students 'weak' but helped them anyway.

- In response to my prodding about how the Boogeymen did not believe the students, he said 'the Boogies will learn'. I tried to subtly encourage him in this direction, setting up more division between the students and outside authority will isolate the students further and make them more vulnerable.

- He believed his own death would just lead him back home - we should be careful with this. If we do not trap them or disable them they may attack us solely to provoke 'killing' blows on our parts.

- The mere mention of fire sent him into a panic.

I also attempted to plant some uncertainties in the subject's thoughts - I mentioned the Horsemen coming here of their own will, how Cymbeline laughed at the students' captures, etc. I also tried to suggest that their 'revolution' take more extreme measures against the Boogeymen, but in a subtle way so he may think the idea is his?

Additional points of extreme importance: I believe I listed everything above.
Commendations or warnings: I would like to improve the following points.

- have a better capture plan in place (this was my biggest problem by far I think)
- be slightly more discriminating in choice of subject; the first/easiest thing you run into may not be worth bringing back (but if you waste time you may blow your cover I think so... think on your feet?)
- have a lighter or something on hand for interrogation of undead specimens, just in case. Just the mention of flame induces intense fear, so having a fire source available for demonstration purposes could be a good fallback.
- when faking the presence of a hostage, set up means of 'proof' if possible?

I agree that by signing this, all information above is accurate and can be used for or against me:

Silence as the Death Hunter skimmed the report, before setting it down, thankfully void of any sort of temper tantrum, if Madison had thought she would be on the receiving end of any sort of reinforcement for her failures.

"Trainees are ranked as beginners for several reasons," Caelius began, as a prelude to his usual hinting of something else, "They engage in the simplest menial tasks, are restricted to access on the Island only, and only work to follow orders they have been given. A trainee promotion to intermediate status is something of a bridge between the status of trainee and Hunter, where they not only have to take orders, but begin to understand and reflect upon their division's workload."

The tone immediately went from conversational to serious. "Recording your failures is as important as recording your achievements, Madison. Now that you are an intermediate Hunter, you do not has as much leisure to ******** up so many times. Your new uniform will be sent to you shortly, take the time between this promotion mission and the next mission to consider how you can repay your division back."

And it was in the late evening that Madison found in her room a pristine white coat, the trim ornate and delicate. As she turned the coat over, she would find on the back, instead of her trainee Life Hunter insignia, a pair of crossed scythes representing another division entirely. Next to the coat was a simple piece of cardstock that wrote 'Permission for clearance into Halloween for the private mission has been approved.'
