---- Virziel wiped at his eyes and coughed a couple more times, trying to get the taste out of his mouth as he thrust the bottle back into DD's hands. "Get this disgusting crap away from me!" he croaked, and then glanced over the edge of the roof. Aurelius was below, trying to hold his own in the brawl. He was doing alright, except every time he cut down a row of zombies, more filed in to take their place. Virziel laughed and folded his arms.
"What? You're not going to help?"
"Why should I? I've done more than him."
"That's debatable..."
"What was that?!"
"Are you just scared you'll turn into one? Look, this antidote is fool proof. If you feel like your head is turning yellow, round, and angry though, let me know. But until then, assume that you're fine."
"...tch."

---- The two looked up to see Aurelius hovering by the edge of the roof now, staring levelly toward Virziel. He was livid, but while his expression attempted to remain calm, the hand that gripped his sword was trembling and betrayed his rage. "And why, exactly, am I down there fighting by myself?"
"Virziel's whining about turning into one."
"I am not!"
"Then get down there and make yourself useful!" Aurelius shouted, and wasted no time in grabbing the demon by the front of his shirt. He hauled him upwards and tossed him forcefully over the edge of the roof, sending him flying toward the zombie hoard to land in a pitiful heap upon two. "I loathe dealing with his kind..."
"Well, just fight better and it'll be over sooner."

---- Virziel surged to his feet, enraged as he lashed out with claws out to shove himself back upward. His hands ended up slicing through the heads of the two he'd fallen on, leaving him temporarily stuck. The surrounding others began to swarm, but his large wings spread, knocking a few back, and thrust downwards to help his body rise. His hands tugged free and immediately sank through the foreheads of two others, cutting them down. His feet kicked his hands free again, allowing a few more to fall victim to his angry flailing. "Why the hell did you do that?!"
"Motivation to stop being such a useless idiot."
"You're the one just floating up there doing nothing now!"

---- "Very well."
Aurelius suddenly soared up into the sky, casting a dark silhouette against the moon. Then he plummeted downwards, broad white wings flashing wide before tucking in behind him for the sharp descent. They spread again at the last moment, catching him and sending him parallel to the ground. It was a simple matter of holding his sword out as he flew, slicing in half each zombie that was stupid enough to linger in his path. Since zombies are notoriously dull, it ended up being quite a lot.
"Is that helpful enough for you?" he asked, landing quite calmly to stare toward Virziel.
The younger man just scowled and turned his head away. Then he looked back, as if he'd found something snarky enough to say. "If that was so helpful, then why do their numbers just keep growing?"
"Oh... that might be partially my fault?"

---- Both heads turned toward the roof, where DD sat munching upon a sugar cookie from her high point of safety.
"What are you doing?!" Virziel bellowed.
"Well, I was hungry... I was craving sweets, probably because I haven't had any in a while. I just remembered that's why we're in this mess in the first place though, so they're probably being drawn to this cookie because of the want to destroy it."
"...come again?"
"Some guy is bitter about being pied in the face so he wants to destroy all the sweets so it can't happen again. Kind of an overreaction, I'd say. Wouldn't you?"
"Stop eating!" Virziel shouted once more, noting the girl actually had a tin she was eating more cookies from. "Stop it!"

---- "But... I really am hungry," DD replied with a pout. "All this watching y'all fight is pretty exhausting."
"WHAT?!" Virziel raged, beside himself with anger. He was trembling, barely keeping himself from attacking the girl herself.
"Come on, how 'bout you take a break for a second. Look, this cookie's shaped like a snowman. It even has an orange frosting nose, like a carrot!"
"A... a what man?"
DD cocked her head curiously to the side. "You don't know? It's a man made out of snow. How about we make one after this whole mess is cleaned up?"
"But there is no snow..." Aurelius piped up, having floated above the reach of the zombies to enable the casual talk.
"Yeah, I'll make some. No big deal."

---- "I don't like snow. I hate the cold!" Virziel snapped, and turned back toward the zombies. But his distractions and pulled attention had left him vulnerable, and he turned just as one threw itself upon him. He hit the ground hard, and after a look from DD, a begrudging Aurelius yanked the zombie away and pulled Virziel up into the air.
"This is your fault! Stop eating those damn cookies and focus!"
"How about this idea. You eat a cookie and calm yourself down."
"No! I swear, I'm gonna-!" But the demon was cut short as a cookie came flying toward him. He caught it, and it was in the peculiar shape of three stacked circles, pressed flat, with a frosting face and scarf. "...what is this?"
"A snowman in cookie form. Try it," DD replied calmly, as she game a tree-shaped cookie to Aurelius, who had joined her on the roof.
Virziel scowled at the cookie bitterly, his hand threatening to crush it to dust. But he saw Aurelius enjoy his, and his scowl darkened but he slowly took a bit. Then another. Then the entire thing. A second later, he was perched crouching by the girl's side. "...can I have another?"

---- "If you use the resulting sugar rush to destroy the remaining zombies," DD replied, to which Virziel quickly nodded his head. She dropped a star cookie into his hand this time, and he paused. "...what is it?"
"I want another sn... snow man."
"They all taste the same."
Virziel eyed her doubtfully, but took a tentative bite of the offered star. Again, it was scarfed down in the next instant. Then his hand was extended for another.
DD sighed. "I don't have many so this is your last one. Pick what you'd like." She held out the container to him.

---- Inside the tin box was another star, another tree, and a santa. Virziel picked the latter and promptly bit off the head. Then the torso. Then the little black boots. As if fully recharged by the sugary treat, he turned his attention back to the mass of brainless loafers. So they were out to destroy all sweets like these? They were so good though! That was it. After tasting one, he had made up his mind. He wasn't going to let them do it.
He took off like a rocket, plunging back into the fray to fight them solo and with all his might.
Aurelius remained beside DD to watch. "...he really is dense."
"I know."
Unaware of the commentary from above, Virziel ripped and tore without restraint, sending bodies dropping like flies. One after the other they were felled, falling lifelessly upon the ground in double-death. Any that so much as twitched were quickly reduced one head.
Soon, he was standing upon a street that more closely resembled a battlefield.

---- "Good job!" DD called from the roof. "You can have the last cookie, and then we have to go find the guy who started all this. That bitter, overreacting one."
Virziel was up in an instant, hands making a hasty grab for the tin. DD quickly held it away.
"Drink the antidote first. I don't want you turning into one of those things. Oh, come on. Don't make that face. Just chase the bad taste with a cookie."
"Okay..." he sulked, but obeyed. He took a large swig from the bottle, and then chomped down a cookie just after, making it a little more bearable. Then he tossed the tin aside. It landed with a squelch on one of the zombie's bodies.
"So, where to now?"
"Let's hurry," she replied, letting the non-bloody angel carry her this time. "And try to get out of my neighborhood fast. I feel really bad for whoever has to clean up this mess..."

---- The trio flew off into the night, soon leaving the little neighborhood behind them. DD frowned as they went, looking around and feeling unnerved by the odd calmness that followed the ended battles. She kept expecting something to pop up and attack them, yet nothing showed itself. She saw no flying lasers and heard no far off moans of zombies. They were alone.
"This is weird. I wish something would happen already."
"Why? Perhaps it is over and we can go home."
"I just want more cookies..." Virziel added in a grumble.
"Then that's exactly why we need to hurry up and find the cause of this mess. Try going that way."
The girl nodded her head toward her left, where an open field lay spread out before them. It was dark and quiet and a chill in the air was beginning to bite through her thin sweatshirt. As if sensing this, Aurelius held her a little closer and moved a bit faster in the indicated direction.

---- They reached the field and ventured into the grassy terrain. Or rather, above it, as they continued to use their wings. Only a few moments later, Virziel stiffened.
"What is it?"
"I smell something," he murmured, nose lifted toward the air. "...it smells sweet."
"Sweet? There aren't supposed to be any sweets... We should follow it."
Virziel took the lead, his pace rapidly increasing the closer they grew to the source. It wasn't long before even DD could catch the scent floating through the air, and soon after she noticed a soft glow in the distance. "What is that..? A fire?"
It was flickering like one, dancing in the middle of the field like a beacon in the dark. Surely their foe wouldn't be advertising their position so openly... "Fires shouldn't smell so... good."
"Perhaps it is simply-"
"THEY'RE BURNING MY COOKIES!"
Virziel shot off like a rocket, dashing through the sky toward the beckoning glow. He had barely gotten a look at the figure by the fire before his fist slammed into the person's cheek. They went flying a few feet to the side and skidded across the ground, leaving Virziel to quickly snatch up a box of cookies that had been dropped before landing in the flame. "Mine!"

---- "OW! Where did you come from?!" the figure cried as he pushed himself back to his feet.
"Why were you burning my cookies?!" Virziel bellowed back.
"Wait, what? You're burning the sweets?" DD asked, as she and Aurelius arrived to land a short distance away. "Why is that? Hey... you aren't Zero Omega, are you?"
"I am! What's it to you?"
"Well... we're here to stop you."
"Why would you do that?"
"...are you kidding? You're the one stealing away our Christmas treats like you have the right."
"I do! I have to make sure that... that it never happens again..." he spoke, trailing off at the end to stare into the distance.
DD and Aurelius exchange a look, while Virziel continued to devour the large pile of sweets that were set beside the raging bonfire.
"And what is it, exactly, that you are trying to avoid?" Aurelius asked slowly.

---- Zero Omega lowered his head. He cleared his throat as he adjusted his coat, brushing grass from where he'd gone skidding over the ground. Then he tossed his scarf magnificently over his shoulder in a flourish of glamour. "It was a night not unlike this one..." he began dramatically. "I was just minding my own business, you see, when it happened. It was so horrible. So terrible. To this day, I still find myself wondering how I survived it..."
"What are you talking about?"
"He's exaggerating."
"Exaggerating? How dare you!" he shouted, throwing his hand out. "Has it ever happened to you? You could never begin to imagine the pain I felt! The humiliation!"
"What was it?" Aurelius demanded, growing impatient.
"A pie! A pie to the face! My beautiful face!" Zero cried, throwing his arms out once more in over dramatic fashion.
"...seriously?"
"...seriously."
"It was so horrifying! I can't even stand the thought of it! So, to make sure it never happens again... I am removing all of the sweets from the entire world. Never again will I be so embarrassed!"
"Are you sure? I'd be pretty embarrassed by what you just said."
"Silence! You now know my location-"
"The fire was kind of a giveaway."
"-so you must be destroyed!"

---- Out of nowhere, Zero pulled out an ominously bloody machete. He also withdrew a slightly tattered plushie of a horse. "C'mon, buddy, let's show them we mean business!"
"...are you really serious?"
In answer, Zero charged forward with machete swinging wildly. Aurelius shoved DD back out of the way and his sword appeared in his hand. Blades clashed and he quickly pushed the his opponent away. "Get behind that idiot! He'll keep you safe," Aurelius ordered, before running after the off-balance crazy-man.
DD scrambled to her feet and hurried behind Virziel, who was feasting upon the pile of stolen cookies and candy canes, cakes and pies, and everything else imaginable. "Aren't you going to help out?"
"He can handle it," he replied in a voice muffled by cake, with frosting and crumbs spread over his cheeks and chin.
Right on cue, Aurelius shoved Zero back once more and slammed a foot into his chest, sending him hard into the ground.
"See?"
"...tch. Just be ready to jump in."
