Grant had accepted some time ago that the scar over his eye was ugly, even if it had faded and healed rather nicely. He often imagined that when people looked at his eyes they inevitably looked at the scar, and he was perfectly okay with that. After all, it was an interesting mark on his face that not everyone had.

They had every right to look, and he was ashamed of it.

It was his optimistic smile and bright eyed eagerness that had earned him the mark, but without prompting he did not even spare a thought to it. It was one of those memories better left unthought of, so his mind could maybe forget it sooner rather than later and he could keep some of the older, but happier memories in its place.

"I'm glad you did," he said, looking relieved, "even if assuming is supposed to be bad. I don't mind!" He smiled at her dumbly, which seemed to be the effect her kisses had on him. His brain melted and he forgot himself, just wanting to be with her and not think about anything else.

Something honked or barked or something in the movie, and he looked at the screen. How much of it had they missed, anyway? What was this movie about? Something about balloons. He was sure it was very good, whatever it was.

Had he voiced his opinion on the scar Lydia would have been quick to correct him. Assuring him that the mark took nothing away from his handsome face or lovely eyes, and in fact only added to them. Scars told stories, good and bad, and Lydia, though lacking any significant ones of her own, had always viewed such marks as badges of honor.

Perhaps it was the literature lover in her, the romantic, that glorified such things, but regardless, it was how she felt.

The relief she saw in his face nearly melted her heart, and she gave his hand another find squeeze, lifting his fingers up so she could press her cheek against the warm curl of his knuckles. "You're right, I shouldn't assume, but it seemed safe in this case." They had already been on numerous dates, there had been hugging, kisses on the cheek, any number of small compliments and other signs, and all of it had seemed to lead down this path.

She startled at the honk, head jerking up and turning back towards the tv and the colorful bird now on the screen. Oh, only Kevin. Lydia let out a sheepish little laugh, glancing up at Grant before simply smiling happily. She let their hands fall back to her lap, then leaned against him, head coming to rest on his shoulder. They'd missed the whole beginning of the movie, but it was written well enough that Grant would be able to pick up on the plot pretty easily.

Grant would share with her the story of how he had gotten his scar one day, when she felt comfortable asking. He wouldn't bring it up without prompting though. Mostly, he tended to forget he had it, or that it mattered, save in fleeting moments like this when he almost felt self conscious. But his optimism easily chased those feelings away.

When she leaned against him he smiled drowsily and put his arm around her so they could cuddle. He wasn't feeling sleepy, so much, but lulled into a perfect peace that he just wanted to bask in. He was happy in a new way, and that was marvelous.

It was exciting.

In that it was comforting.

His eyes turned back to the movie and he watched it without knowing what was going on and not caring, really. He just kissed her on the forehead nearer to the end of it, and he got an honest kick out of Dug. Maybe that was because he could relate to the dog.

Couldn't guess why.

Lydia could feel her eye lids growing heavy as she watched the movie, and tucked against Grant as she was, his arm around her shoulders, it wouldn't take long before she succumbed to the inevitable approach of drowsiness.

For a while she faded in and out, drifting off peacefully, then slipping back when a loud noise came from the tv. At these points she'd try to hang onto consciousness, but it only ever took a handful of minutes before she lost the battle again and fell back to sleep. Unlike the young man beside her, Lydia lived a double life. She had school during the day, but her nights were dedicated to gathering energy and looking for senshi. She didn't get a whole lot of sleep.

Usually it didn't show, she was fairly energetic, and she had a sweet tooth for fancy coffees. She just felt so comfortable cuddled against Grant.

The kiss on her forehead made her blink, and she made an inquisitive noise before simply rubbing her cheek along his shoulder and sighing, hazel eyes falling closed once again.

It didn't matter that she'd missed the movie. She'd already seen it, and really it was secondary to simply spending time with someone she'd come to care for a great deal. She was content, comfortable and warm, and dozing off with the weight of Grant's arm draped around her was absolute bliss.

Grant smiled and settled in to the sofa comfortably, noting that she was nodding off and it was a little infectious. He wasn't tired, however, but he was lulled by the peace of the moment. When the movie ended he turned off the tv so they didn't waste electricity, though his movements were very slow and measured because he didn't want to wake her up.

He leaned back when that was all settled, smiling.

Yes, this was nice. He was a good pillow and she was sleeping with what looked like a content expression on her face. He couldn't tell, exactly, from the angle. He was perfectly content to rest there with her, just watching the ceiling, or the tv that wasn't on any more, or closing his eyes and trying to drift off despite being rather awake.

Eventually, the combination of things making him comfortable and happy were enough to let him nod off as well.
