"Opportunities for blackmail are never to be turned down," Nahm agreed. He finished off the last bit of his last sandwich and got up, stretching. "Mind if I tag along? Or is this best done without witnesses?"

Roch thought about it for a moment. "Well, you can come along, but I gotta warn you ahead of time, the big jacktard can be pretty scary," he said honestly.
"I mean, I HATE to admit that fact, cuz seriously, old guys shouldn't have that title. But he's--no, he's not as scary as some of the guys we ran into on the field trip, sure, but he's a hell of a lot scarier than I grew up seein', and that says a lot."

Nahm shrugged. "The clan elders at home are pretty jacking scary," he said. "'S how it works. 'Course, we avoided them as much as possible, because getting called up in front of the council meant you were in some real deep s**t. Y'know."

"If I didn't know his full name was Las Vegas Nevada Scythe, I would think it was deep s**t," Roch drawled, shaking his head as he headed out the door and down the path that led to town. He shoved his hands into his pockets, ignoring the fact it was a bit colder than usual. "What's your family like?" he asked curiously. "Is it a tribe or something?"

"What, really?" Nahm snorted. Then he reconsidered. "Guess it's not that much weirder than stupid puns, all told." He folded his hands into his sleeves against the chill; his gloves were more for protection against light than actual warmth.
"Clan," he corrected. "Not really a tribe, though I guess it's sorta similar. A clan is four or five families, usually three-four generations, sharing a clan holding. DeVarr clan has a nice big catacomb, but some clans live in sewers or cellars or caves or whatever. Long's it's underground, that's the easiest way to make sure there's no light. We got big families, too. Me and Ahm, we've got two sisters and another brother, and then there's six aunts and uncles in our family, and hell if I know how many cousins now, and that's not even counting clan-cousins from the other families." He shrugged. "Anyhow, there's an elder from each family on the clan council, and the council decides what's up in the holding."

"There's all of... three people in my family," Roch said, amused at the differences. "And each of us hates at least one of the others, except granddad, I don't think he hates me so much as I irritate the hell out of him," he said a bit smugly. He considered that an accomplishment. "Me, I hate my old man..." But it didn't seem quite as passionate as it used to be. "Or at least he irritates the hell out of me," he admitted.
They were heading for town, but he veered off towards the business section, heading for a dark, creepy part of town as if he owned it. There was a massive werewolf sleeping at the top of stairs that led to a basement building. He headed straight for him.
"Oye, I want to speak to Vegas," Roch said, nudging him with his metal toed boot. The were moved aside, giving the grue a dark look.
"Your company keeps getting stranger, boil," he complained.
"I am my granddad's grandson, right?" Roch drawled as he went down the stairs.

"Our granddad's the family elder. He's a wrinkly old shithead and he's got it out for us," Nahm grumbled. "But good thing about having a big family, takes a lot of asking to be able to prove you weren't actually in the holding last night ... " He snickered at that.
He quieted as they got into the seedier part of town, not particularly alarmed, but alert and cautious. Now and then an ear flicked inside his hood as he heard something of interest. When the werewolf gave him the stink-eye, he just gave the massive monster a toothy, ear-to-ear grin. Just being friendly. No, really.

The were snorted, motioning them both through. "He's in there," he said, before yelling down the stairs. "Make sure that chick's got her pants on, Vegas! Your kid is comin' down!"
"Ain't nothin' he hasn't seen before!" Vegas yelled back.
"I meant the kid's kid!"
"And it STILL ain't nothin he hasn't seen before!" Roch rolled his eyes and went through the door, not that surprised to see the stripper from the last time he'd come sitting on Vegas's knee. But at least the undead ghoul was still wearing a top. Sort of.

Nahm snickered quietly as he followed Roch down the stairs, and gave the stripper on Vegas's knee an appreciative stare before studying the older reaper, careful not to stare too openly. You didn't cross elders, you didn't disrespect them, and you didn't talk to them until introduced. He kept quiet.

The rather large reaper in his fifties had passing similarities to Roch, but he was at least twice as wide through the shoulders, and his blonde hair had white in it--or perhaps a better way to put it was his white hair had blonde in it. His hands were massive, covering the ghoul's butt entirely from what they could see of it.
"And what brings you here, boil?" Vegas demanded, shoving the ghoul off his lap and taking a long drag off the cigar clamped between his teeth. "Ready for a hands on lesson? Your dad would kill me if he found out I got you a hooker."
stare said Roch. Because he was SO not wanting to hear this in front of a friend. "I need a favor."

Nahm snickered quietly. It took a fair amount of effort to keep his mouth shut and just spectate; the ghoul was pretty hot, after all. However, he was just along for the ride. And possibly as an extra witness.

"I need you to tell me why you're bringing a grue along for the ride," Vegas said. "Does your clan know you're in this part of town, boil?" he asked Nahm dryly. "And going into a reaper's gambling hall?"
"This place," Roch said, ignoring the question to Nahm. "Is it legal?"
"Sure it is," Vegas said. "I own a legitimate business--"
"In a basement."

While speaking to an elder before being introduced was a breach in etiquette, answering a direct question was quite the opposite. "No, sir, probably not," Nahm answered cheerfully. He kept his hands folded into his sleeves and inclined a slight bow.

"I'm not surprised," Vegas drawled. There was a hint of amusement on his face that Roch picked up on quickly. Jack, now he knew where the family sense of humor came from, he thought with an inward snort.
"I don't believe you when you say it's legal," Roch said.
"Why don't you introduce your friend, boil? You thought it was worth bringing him here for," Vegas interrupted.
"Nahm, this is my granddad, Vegas. Vegas, this is Nahm. Now can I get to blackmailing you??" he demanded.

"I asked Roch to bring me along, sir," Nahm offered. "It's something of a joint venture." His eyes glinted wickedly under the hood. "Of course, I haven't got any sort of material for blackmail, so I will leave that up to my estimable friend."
