I guess I would type of apply as one of those people, and I half-agree.
You're right about the 'they just want to know they're all-right' part, but at least with me, being thin and beautiful would be a nice little bonus. :B
And a lot of people without even noticing it do notice the thin and pretty people first. They don't even mean it, but they do. x3

Yeah, but what if people liked fat people instead of thin ones? Would thin people get all depressed and eat as much as they could? Why is it better to be thin and pretty, who made the world like that?

Maybe another reason to why people want to be "beautiful" is because they want respect? Or maybe just to not be made fun of. Usually, people would treat the thin and pretty people a lot more nicer than they do the fat or ugly people. At least, in my school they do.
(Which is really, REALLY stupid.)

And didn't there used to be a time in history where being fat was a beautiful thing? How did things switch from that to now?

I think maybe mostly everybody was fat way back then, so they found thin people to be more appealing since they were really rare.
Or maybe it's because now, being skinny is a difficult thing to accomplish, but ANYBODY could be fat if they wanted to. xD

Just some questions. x3 Well yeah, mostly if everyone liked fatter people as much as they like thin people, everyone would want be fat.
People think it's better to be thin because models are thin and the way most clothes are made are for thin people, so people just think that beting thin is better. x3
Coco: I think the reason back then that fat people were considered beautiful is because then it showed that they had more money, so they could afford more food. x3

And ya, most people just want to be thin because thats the way they always saw things, its how they grew up thinking...
"Thin = Cool.
Not thin = Un cool".
I blame it on those damned popsticle sized models. mad
