Herryk turned to glance at Mort while using his feet to shuffle the poofs off to the side. They rolled and tumbled but it didn't stop them from derpily running back to swarm around them once more. Only the little babies remained in the pen, so there was no worry about outright crushing any teeny pups that managed to worm underfoot.
"When Herryk went on the field trip, Herryk had maybe fifteen. Herryk came back to almost thirty. Herryk went to visit Freya's parents for her sister's wedding. Herryk came back to over forty." He shook his head.
"Herryk does not understand where they keep coming from, Mort."

Fifteen? Thirty? Forty? Mort had issues with just one of his minipets!
"Sheeeeeeesh." Carefully he lifted his feet and planted them back on the ground, both amused and somewhat horrified that foxfires could swarm about them so. What if one day Herryk woke up and they were everywhere and he couldn't move? Thankfully he wouldn't have to worry about breathing, but still.
"Maybe v-visit pumpkin patch wh-when n-n-not looking?" Mort suggested, tentatively reaching a hand out to try and pet a couple of them.

Herryk wasn't even sure what the pumpkin patch was, to be honest. Odin had asked him about it briefly but Mot had looked far too embarrassed to talk about it. Herryk merely shrugged, catching sight of two foxfires in particular. His face immediately brightened. "Sweet NANNA!" Herry swooped down to pick up his sweetest most beloved and precious darling sweetest kindest and most gentle Nanna. The foxfire immediately began writhing happily in his hands, reaching in to lick his face. Herryk picked up another foxfire, identical to the first. "And this is Lanna, Nanna's sister." He glanced at the foxfire before shoving it at Mort. "Mort should take Lanna." Lanna seemed to brighten when she was offered to Mort, giving a sharp, happy yip.

The zombie stared. And stared. And statwitchred.
It . . . She . . . They . . .werefriggenfluffy. It was one thing to be standing ankle deep in the herd and something else entirely to be seeing a foxfire in the full.
And - and Herryk was giving him one?
° A °
Zombie-like in all senses of the word, Mort outstretched his hands to take the winged fluffball, surprised by how light it was - maybe it had less body and more fur than he realized. "Y-Y-You sure?" he had to ask, unable to look away from the tail-wagging Lanna that captivated him.

Now, Herryk loved his poofs. Nobody could even dare question the heaps of love that Herryk had for his babies. It was just.. incredibly obvious that Herryk was more than a little overwhelmed by the constantly-growing masses of foxfires that he came home to.
"Herryk is certain," he nodded, carefully rubbing a finger along Nanna's chin. "Lanna likes Mort. Lanna is a good baby. Herryk loves Lanna, and Nanna loves Lanna, and Skarla loves Lanna and Hedda and ... everyone else loves Lanna but Lanna likes Mort and this is good!"
Maybe it would even help Mort feel better!
"Mort can take Lanna home, but bring Lanna by for visits! Mort can bring Lanna on walks with Herryk, too!"

; AAA ; "Herryk . . ."
And then the music swelled as the boil leapt upon his big black manbear, unable to hold back his feelings any longer.
Lanna was squished against his chest, the foxfire's tail still wagging despite her wings being a little squeezed. "W-Will, p-p-promise!" Mort exclaimed, his head resting on one side of Lanna's face (as her horn made it a bit hard to go on top). "Will keep s-s-safe from all th-things."
He didn't even want to leave now; the soft, fuzzy floor was enticing to just lay down on.

"Is nice to have many foxfires, Mort. Let Herryk introduce his babies to you."
Herryk waded further into the room, clucking like a mother hen as wave after wave of poof swarmed around his legs. With a soft whistle and a gently spoken, "Sitte ned!" the foxfires settled into a vast ocean of soft fur and bright little eyes. Herryk made a gesture with a hand and the ocean spread just enough so that Herryk had room to sit. A handful of poofs made it into his lap before Herryk started pointing at random foxfires.
"Erla, Arya, Dagny, Dalle, Dalla, Danna, Brigga, Benja, Aurla, Brynja," he began, pointing at each of them in turn. The foxfires stared up at Herryk with a sort of adoration.
"Freyja, Gilda, Grizla, Hedda, Hedvig, Hanna, Hagga and Helga -- they are sister twins -- Janne, Ingrid, Frylla and Fritta... and then there is Hildur, Judit, Lisbet, Lalla, Kjella, Kalla, Jules, Martta, Magga, Madge, Marla, Yalla, Ulkika, Skulla, Tamrin, Sketta, Skarla, Signy, Sansa, Sarla, Melle and Sanja."
Herryk rubbed his chin and pointed to the far corner of the room.
"In the pen is where the babies sleep until they are big enough to walk! There is Frans and Darla, Fryns and Grylls, Lenne and then Yelga." Herryk beamed at Mort.
"And finally, Sweet Nanna." He held up a poof that was identical to Lanna in every way. "This is Lanna's sister! She is Herryk's best foxfire friend."

It should have been clear immediately when he entered the room, and yet it still took Herryk actually listing their names off for Mort to realize that there were a lot of friggen babies. And though he attempted to follow where the draugr pointed, his eyes easily strayed back to Lanna in his arms, whose soft fur he just was compelled to keep petting. Once Herryk held out Nanna, Mort was finally able to pry his gaze fully off his new mini to beam at the identical twin across from him.
"Is sp-special twins. W-W-Will v-visit lots, n' h-have walks, n' hang o-o-out, 'n stuff!" he proclaimed in that stammering voice, still clearly affected by random bursts of electricity; thankfully, they were not seeming to leave the boundaries of his neck and head for now. Mort took one of Lanna's paws and waved at them. "Saying b-bye for now. N-Need rest like p-p-promise. Th-Thanku . . ."

Herryk beamed at Mort. It really made Herryk happy to see his bro so happy, and by the look on Lanna's face, well, the foxfire was going to be blissfully happy. Herryk gently grasped Nanna's paw and mimicked the gesture that Mort had Lanna make.
In a high-pitched voice, Herryk mumbled while trying not to move his lips, "Goodbye sister Lanna! Take good care of Mort! Nanna will miss her sister!" A ventriloquist Herryk was not, but it made the draugr laugh.
"Goodbye, Mort! Herryk is excited for walkies and hanging out with his friend Mort very soon." The draugr smiled as he walked Mort to the door, clutching Nanna in one hand.

"Y-Yiss, many walks!" More paw waving as the zombie passed the threshold into the hall. "B-B-But now, sreeeeee-eeep."
Mort twitched again, and for a moment it looked like both his hair and Lanna's fur stood out on end. The foxfire blinked, then yipped blissfully at her sudden extra fluffiness.
"W-Will find later on HIM o-or Groansp-spring. Bye, Herryk, b-bye, Nanna!" And with poof in tow, Mortimer shuffled back to his room, hoping that Brian wouldn't think he was bringing home a new snack.
Yet after Herryk closed his door, the zombie would give him a final, longing look. He had lost his chance to profess his true feelings in his brainless adoration of the babies.
